Rich blackberries and blackcurrants with licorice and cedar. Still plenty on tannins present which throws it off balance slightly. Leather and earthy notes with vanilla also on the nose. Long finish.

Dark red with slight bricking around the edges. Initial funk that gives way over 20 minutes to reveal aromas of dark cherries, cassis, leather, tobacco, graphite and earth. Quite structured on the palate revealing savory reddish black fruits, brown spices, medium acidity, fine tannins and a long leather/pencil lead finish.

Deep dark red. Very tight dark fruit and herb nose, opens up after vigorous swirling and time in the glass, shows some pepper and celery seed notes. This wine seems much younger then it’s age. Dry plum and pepper flavours and a very tannic dry finish.

Dark ruby red. Aromas show a heady mix of cassis, dark berries, tobacco and pencil lead. Palate reveals perfectly ripe crushed dark currants, graphite, brown spices, medium acidity, melting tannins, resolved oak and a long finish showing a hint of tobacco and leather.

Bordeaux-themed Night (La Fleur Petrus) (Extra Space): Tasted blind. Had been poured into decanter. Lots of sediments. Drank over 3 hours. Appearance murky, deep intensity, ruby colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of mushroomy earth, mint, metallic minerality, black cherries, red cherries, slight soy sauce. Developed. On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium+ alcohol (14%), high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of sweet dark red plums, black cherries, leather, mushroom earth, mint. Long finish. Very good quality. Easily guessed this as a SuperTuscan amongst the Bordeaux line-up of the night. Drinking very well now. Let it stand for a day or two to let the sediment settle. Blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot.

Dark ruby/purple color turning violet at the rim with a transparent edge. The nose gives off complex aromas of dark berries, espresso, and smoke. The palate is full-bodied and dense with black currants, dark chocolate, volcanic stone, glowing embers and a hint of spice. The finish is quite persistent with sweet, chewy tannin even at 15 years of age. Drink now until 2021. Exceptionally delicious but was edged out overwhelmingly by the 2001 Flaccianello that we tasted alongside.

Solid, enjoyable wine with good structure. Lots of modern style fruit and integrated tannin. Nothing objectionable; it's nice wine, but didn't blow me away.

Belle longueur. À boire sur 10 ans.

This wine comes out of the bottle quite muddy, so with a mesh screen, a slow pour, a bit of patience, it is a pleasant experience. The wine is deep, dark, but fruity, light tannins, an absolute pleasure. It opened up quickly, and we had it with a chicken stew, fresh steamed carrots and guacamole. Very enjoyable.

Very dark with red edge. Nose has dark cherry fruit, smoke and spice. VA seems to blow off after half and hour. Cherry fruit, seems closed, though. Alcohol and oak make immediate impression. Medium body and concentration, unfocused. This has a slighty sour medium length finish with more than enough tannin. My wife and I debate as she likes it more than I. The flavours haven't developed yet it is starting to dry out. I payed way to much for this.

Judgement Day - 2001 Bordeaux vs. 2001 USA Cabernet Blends (Holiday Inn Chicago North Shore - Skokie, IL): Tasted blind. Big red fruit and lots of oak on the nose - I thought it was from California. The palate continued the modern approach with a thick mouthfeel, wooly tannins, dark fruit and espresso. Towards the end of the night I had a small taste and thought it had improved significantly with the tannins softening, the flavors mellowing out a bit, too. This was rated number 2 overall by the group and 7th overall by me.

Absolute knock out and still very young at this stage; the 2001 was like a right bank first growth on steroids. It is multiple times better than any Sassicaia vintage I had so far. Lots of flowers and dark berries on the nose, didn't need much time to open up. On the palate, a good balance of fruit and fresh crisp tannins that are likely to integrate even better over the next 5 years. Drink after 2018. Unfortunately I only have one bottle left and it's difficult to source.
Very dark, opaque red shading into black. The nose was somewhat restrained, even after airing. Powerful black fruits and licorice, gradually revealing as it opened cabernet notes of tobacco and other green herbs, mixed in with black olive and earthy elements. Full-bodied, yet with racy (almost searing) acidity and very dry tannins that puckered the mouth. Very concentrated in the mouth. There's a lot of material that may indicate a long life ahead.

2011 Casual Session - 7, When casual gone insane (Extra Space Boon Keng): Alcohol :: 14% Dark opaque ruby. Decanted for 2.5hrs. Still tight on the nose, but highly focus and one can sense the inner depth and strength. Aromas of white pepper, alcohol spice and blackcurrant fruits that added more complexity with ink and earth. Very powerful but never undue. Super rich and concentrated bright blueberry and blackberry fruits that sailed alongside with salted mineral and dark plum, I especially like the purity and brightness of the fruits that give a good buffer to the med-high level of fine-grained tannin. Structure, good depth with really good sweet, juicy, complex long finish that's linger with spices and mineral. A wine with finesse that is loaded and asking for long rest in the bottle. Don't wake me up in another 10yrs! Buy - Yes.

Deep, brooding color just a shade off black, nearly opaque, with a dark ruby rim. Despite being open a couple of hours, the nose isn't giving much -- some black cherry and black tea. Fantastic palate of sweet, ripe cherry and chocolate ganache, with maybe a hint of clove on the lengthy finish. Would have been tough to specifically peg as a Super Tuscan, at least to this palate inexperienced in those -- comes off as very new-worldy, perhaps a bit like an Aussie Cab or a high-end Napa Syrah. This is big, deep and rich, yet reasonably complex, and drinking fantastically now. Wonderful stuff...

Decanted for two hours and enjoyed over the next two. The core of this wine is a deep garnet that fades to a burgundy red rim with slight notes of orange. An intense nose brings vanilla, tobacco, black cherry, thyme, and dried red cherry. On the palate there is brandied cherry, sage, pepper, and baked strawberries with a velvet texture, bright acidity, and dry, woody tannins. Medium-plus finish.
This bottle was delicious, dynamic and starting to show a bit of tertiary character with the herbs and bricking. However, the oak was more than a bit overwhelming, showing up on the nose, front, and back of the palate. There is a lot of character and depth hiding there, but I don't know if it will ever emerge from behind the wood. Usually a good dose of oak does my body good, but I can't get over it with this bottle.

Black olives, exotic spices, ripe black fruits and chocolate on the brooding nose. Well-aired bottle, more than a day. Nose of nail polish, perfume, plum-cherry sour fruit. In the mouth sour ripe plum cherry fruit with hint of nail polish balancing off good acid and not too strong tannin. Finishes with a fruity wood and burnt sugar taste. Did not notice the anticipated acid kick at the end but again the bottle was open quite a while. Body medium, acid medium, tannin medium minus. Dry to off-dry.

Great nose, intense but tight on the palate, great fruit, this appears to be tightly wound and less expressive than it was a couple of years ago, but clearly an outstanding wine. I'll try to hold off on revisiting this for at least 3-4 more years.

Decanted for two hours and then returned to the bottle for six. Revealed an intense nose of jammy blackcurrant and a strong tar, licorice quality. Big fat mouthfeel, with lots of dense, ripe fruit. The finish is rather tannic. Over a couple hours a pleasing leathery and mineral edge appeared. Unfortunately the tannins did not fade. Very Californian in style. Needs another 5-7 years at least.

Did not notice the anticipated acid kick at the end but again the bottle was open quite a while. Body medium, acid medium, tannin medium minus. Dry to off-dry.

A truly outstanding wine, dense, powerful yet lots of fruit. Still quite tannic.

Just entering drinking window - powerful, with good balance and minerality.

Great nose, intense but tight on the palate, great fruit, this appears to be tightly wound and less expressive than it was a couple of years ago, but clearly an outstanding wine. I'll try to hold off on revisiting this for at least 3-4 more years.

Un superbe vin Toscan éléboré avec 3 cépages bordelais.
Nez, bouche, longueur de grande qualité.
Doit vieillir encore quelques années pour atteindre sa plénitude.

Rocking with two hours of air. Left me with the impression of a beautifully well-done WA state Cab rather than a hot climate CA Cab.

beastly tannic. i should have decanted longer as the wine was very gritty and thick on the palate and finish. hold.

Pop and pour. Beautiful complex nose of black currant, blackberries, cedar, tar, licorice and spice. Full bodied, lush and dense but surprisingly elegant. Tannins show up on the long finish. This wine could use a few more years of aging but we probably won't wait - it's just too good today!

Terrific, young, pure with great focus. This wine should age very well...black currant, raspberry and dark cherry fruit. Lush.

cherry liqour, black raspberries, dark fruit, white pepper and spice. Near perfect balance, truly a well made modern wine. it did not convey a sense of place for me, but I really liked it so much.

Fight Night at J-P's (J-P's place in Yaletown, Vancouver): Right off you know this is a good wine. Beautiful spicy nose with some cassis. Ripe cherry fruit and some pepper on the palate. It finishes a little short, but still in all an excellent wine.

Ooh la la - this is a huge blast of masculine fruit upfront and big, big tannins behind. Give this beast a couple of years, but it's very nice wine and worth looking for again.

Very sweet fruit with some nicely seasoned oak wrapped around it. Didn’t show any real typicity but was certainly a dense modern styled dry red.
