Persistente. Che nettare.

Wine decanted for at least 3hours. Already getting more old brick color. Strong body, full palate, a little overwhelming. Corks were in perfect condition, considerable amount of sediment. In my opinion, wine started the downslope. Not totally to my taste.

Opened and poured into a decanter and drank over 5 hours. Wine rode up to maybe 40% of the cork and fill level was at around the shoulder. Used an ah so to open and cork came out in one piece. Soft tannins, nice acidity. Lots of sediment. Was holding at the end of the session. Long finish.

Magnum format: colour purple and youthful. Bouquet expressive and representative of its age. Decanted 2hrs, wine did not fade and held up well but probably optimal drinking right now.

Slow ox for one hour. Black cherry, plum, tobacco and spice. Medium to full bodied. This is very elegant, in a modern style with well integrated silky tannins and a long finish. Excellent.

No notes taken. This bottle was on its peak. Fully harmonious with melted tannins, a good and prefectly integrated tannins, good tension and fresh but superbly creamy texture, with a med+ length. Quite layered but not with the perfect precision this had a strong sweet fruit core with an intense tertiary layer of black truffles, wet forest floor and leather wrapped around it. Additional notes of graphite and hebrs make this wine a quite complete experience. 94/95 points in my book and even on a 96 points level in its best moments. No reason to hold on for longer.
Decanting: Not decanted, this didn‘t need a lot of time in the glass to show beautiful. No extensive decanting needed.

beautiful wine. what a nose! ...classic mature super tuscan through and through. black currant, cherries, tobacco, damp soil, and an attractive mustiness. great depth, nice texture, no hard edges, great balance, slight tannin on the finish. plum, currant, smoke, savoury notes. on the back nine for certain, but no urgency if you're holding a bottle or two for another year or two. highly recommended.

Lots of smoke and graphite on the nose. Tannins a bit drying. Dark brooding fruit with lots of earth, menthol, and bell peppers. Nice complexity and good freshness to balance the mature notes.

One hour slow ox. Terrific nose of red currant and tobacco. This is fully mature, medium bodied with elegant residual tannins but still very alive. Ripe black currant, plum, tobacco and olives come through on the palate. This is simply delicious now and I would not wait although it probably has another five years ahead of it.

Blind It was like an old school bordeaux. I guessed sassicaia. Never had this wine before. In a balanced stage, black currant, cherry, ripe tannins. Peak level for at least 5-7 years. 94

In a nice drinking condition right now. Lots of full ripe dark berries, juicy cherries and some aging notes on the palate. Nice overall balance. Drink up now or within the next few years.

Popped and poured, and drank over two hours. Much less dense than I remember it to be, and date I say even watery. Not a great deal of flavor of even a mature wine. Reddening / bricking at the edges, so perhaps this one was not stored properly. Will withhold a score in the hopes this one was not up to par due to bottle variation.

Ramat-Aviv Boys meeting (at Chanoch Reichenberg): excellent aromas of dark ripe fruits with seducing secondary & tertiary notes, full body, dark cooked sweet plums, heavy t due to the Syrah component, very enjoyable, ready to drink now rather than further aeging.

Base neck. A boire.

All leather and tobacco on the nose. I let this one decant for almost two hours, at which point the fruit emerged. I was struck by the balance of this wine. Just really enjoyable to drink. Probably at its peak right now.

Definitely needs decanting. Not sure if this our evolving palate away from the style , an off bottle, or if the wine at age 16 is now paying the price of exuberant youth. We tried it 3 times in the last 6 years and we rated it 93 but on the evening it felt one dimension and unimpressive. Ripe and rich with a bit of oak still but on balance was low and just was not an impressive wine. 90 at best but we shall call this an off bottle and will not rate

Zachys dinner: double decanted and served three hours after. Nose has big dark currant, oak, licorice, caramel and cedar wood. Palate is rich and powerful with lots of black fruit, spice, oak, caramel and stuffing. This is a modern approach of super tuscan. For this style, this wine delivers.

I thought the nose almost perfect with hints of dark fruit, cedar and pepper. I thought the wine had perfect balance with a nice acid and tannin backbone. At my initial tasting I thought the wine at its apogee and had a light clear taste of cherry and other dark fruits. Later tastings confirmed this was completely balanced and nuanced, but perhaps lacked a bit of complexity.

Second bottle this evening, first one flawed (so rare for my cellar). Dark garnet color, The Syrah in the blend is noticeable in the color and the nose. I smell cherry, black pepper and some other spices. On the palate the spice is more precise with black pepper, allspice as well as black summer truffle, more cherry or perhaps more precisely cherry cheese cake with some vanilla and crustiness. Fruit still fairly forward with moderate tannins. While still lively this is at peak or slightly past it but totally enjoyable now.

We opened with this wine for a Mother's Day Eve dinner that my daughter and son-in-law surprised us with by driving up from NYC to cook for us. Very classy wine and was bolder than a 2005 Tignanello (also from Antinori) that we had with dinner. I splash decanted this and everyone quickly enjoyed this wine that seems to have years of life left to it.

A proprietary blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, and 10% Syrah and other red fruit, by Antinori. The bottle was left standing upright for more than two weeks prior to opening; the cork was in good shape; there was some sediment. – Color: Purple w/ ruby/garnet. – Bouquet: Black fruit including blackberry, black cherry, black plum, cassis/current, with dried flowers and a nuance of smoke and leather, as well as some mineral undertone. – Palate: Ripe black fruit, including blackberry, black cherry, black plum, a bit of cassis, underlying mineral. The wine had adequate acidity, and had dusty tannins which over an hour or so became slightly drying; the finish was of medium length. The wine was a good match with rare roast beef, jus gravy, roasted cauliflower, potato salad, and spiced, slightly sweetened pickled red beets.

Sometimes at this age guado is noticeably approaching middle age or beyond, but not this bottle. Curiously different impression on this note than the bottle we had earlier this summer. A heavy weight, this is a rich, mouth filling wine that leaves me wishing I had more. Dark cherries, tobacco, chocolate, expressive. I don't look at my CT notes when pulling a bottle, just use instinct, and here, seeking an older bottle to use to treat a new friend to something special, I pulled this, even tho it means I had no more. Otherwise I'd have let it sit a few years. And our impression of the evolution of the wine was very different from just a few months ago. To quote Dylan, I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now.

I didn't follow my own advice to wait a few yrs! Needed this one for the crowd with whom I was sharing it. PnP fr 750ml. Still dark ruby robe. Sweet, dense, dark berry aromatics and palate. Very lush, still plenty of oak present. This one did not show the hotness I sensed on the last bottle. Very enjoyable, still no rush here!

Bouteille et bouchon en parfaite condition. Into neck.

Consumed over two days. Ruby/crimson robe, slight bricking which is a little surprising to me (though never off-putting!). Sweet, dark berry aromatics - still plenty of oak present (on the nose and palate). Dense, dark, opulent palate - yet still a touch hot. I understand why its current profile is appealing to many, but I'm far more interested to see this develop some nuance over the coming years. Erik: hold another 3 yrs min! (and probably enjoy without food)

Decanted this wine for 2hrs buts was still very tight. So I gave it another 90min. No doubt this wine is young. Nose is powerful cocoa, and touch of coconut. The taste has cassis, with blueberry. This is very beautiful wine. It needs to open up. The tannins are just starting to shedding. Recommend this wine but decant it for 3+ hrs.

Very nice wine that paired excellent with Italian meal. As others have commented, really hit its stride after about 1-2 hours of decanting, and became really smooth. Good amount of dark fruit layers with a bit of earthy, Tuscan style barnyard, a great lingering cherry candy flavor. Nice finish, and still plenty of fine tannins. No rush to drink this one, but certainly delicious right now.

Very mature nose with old world charm. Earthy with underbrush, cassis, currents and flowers. Leathery mineral finish. Tannic still with great structure. Just starting its decent and fully mature, very interesting and a trill to drink at this age.

Needs decanting to open up and 1 hour really helped develop it. Very light on the sediment front. Still very youthful and vibrant but definitely a giving wine. Open on the nose, good dark fruits, light oak still in the mix (will it ever be fully assimilated:) ) but the wine owns the oak. Felt very much like a 2004 medoc wine to be honest. Once again a great performance from this wine and we consistently rated it 93 twice in the past (2 & 3yrs ago). 93 and lots of life ahead of this.

Beautiful wine, drinking perfectly. We enjoyed this at Chuflay restaurant overlooking the Portofino Harbor. Very soft and rich, this wine does a great job of finding the middle between the new and old world -- being very fruit driven but in a classic style. So good.

BYOW at Morton's of Chicago inside Sheraton Kowloon Hotel for my B-day. Breathed 1hr before we started our dinner. This wine is still deep ruby, no sign of any ageing. The nose is quite pronounce with dried flowers, tea leaf, cassis, dark chocolate, vanilla, hint of liquorice. Tannin is high but fine & silky, med acidity harmonised with exact dryness and body, really a perfect balance, the flavours are quite similar to the nose aroma. The length is med-long, but a bit bored on the final finish. We think this wine is ready to drink for few more years, and no further significant improvement for years of ageing.

Bouteille et bouchon en parfaite condition. Juste au dessous de into the neck.

Tasted alongside a Tignanello of same vintage - the wine surprised me for magnificently generous nose (plums, leather, blackberries, rosemary) and a very smooth, silky but still dense and powerful palate - my Maremma at it's very best ! I believe this is still aging beautifully. The silky tannins give way to a wonderful lush finish. The acidity is perfect & the smoothness on the palate is reminiscent of silk. The black plums & currants scream out on the mid palate & this is something to remember.

Double decanted for about an hour but we would suggest 2 hours minimum at this stage. The nose is full open from start and never faltered but on the palate it definitely improoved with decanting. Very light on the sediment front. Youthfull and probably just entering its drinking window. Textbook supertuscan. The colour is dark red/violet, the nose is full of fruit, dense fruit and although the oak is still present is not overpowering. On the palate you feel the heat of the terroir, decent depth and densty of fruit and lots of power. Long finish. Would have liked to see the oak a bit more integrated but we guess time will sort this out. We would suggest one waits 5yrs and this wine has the stuffing to last another 20. 92-93 for now.

Had the wine as part of a very strong lineup of Italian wines at a tasting at Pieros. The wine was very structured, and showing well for the most part. Decanted for one hour. A tomato and ruby rim, with a deep garnet and black core. A Bordeaux-like nose with saddle leather, blueberry, raisin, espresso bean, tobacco, menthol and lava rock. On the palate, you get a lot of berry, espresso and menthol. Round tannins with grip and poise. I also get a little Mondavi '87 Reserve, with the dry and juicy mouth-feel that is in cadence. There is a sagacity that is starting to emerge and I really love the style. Bolgheri in 2001 made some wonderful and long-aging Bordeaux-styled wines - in fact, better than Bordeaux that year, overall. There is so much life ahead. The full-figured, long finish is not surprising and if you own this, no harm in enjoying it now. If you wait, there is still plenty time ahead. Drink now - 2022.

Bottiglia probabilmente sfiigata. Rosso rubino cupo, impenetrabile. Discreto finale

We were a little hesitant with this meaty wine based on previous cellar tracker comments (thank you Cellar Tracker) but none the less, we sally'd forth. A very different wine from first pull to first glass. I was, like other members, a little trepid. The wine opened with a strong cabernet funk. Perhaps a little stewed? The wine evolved quickly though and soon we were delighted with tarr, big black fruit (mulberry?) leather and anise. Did not note other spices by name but this was a true tour de force. Yummie. 94 pts

Decanted 1 hour. The nose was a little worrying, with that slightly stewed over-the-hill Cabernet thing. None of that on the palate - ripe black fruit. Sadly, none of the fennel seed I remember on the first bottle. Slightly coarse texture, with some burnt oak bitterness noticeable and definite heat. Delicious flavor, but slightly one-dimensional. I really wish I'd have given this more time to air out, because it started to bloom a little at the end. All of this is getting picky, but picky is ok since the wine retails for almost $100.
Edit: Tried the last part of a glass that'd been sitting for 6 hours since being open - still nothing. Worse, actually - very simple red fruit, with no depth. Disappointing.

This wine is ready to drink now. It has been quite a while since our last bottle and it was such a pleasant reminder of how special a really good Super Tuscan can be. Unmistakably Italian & unmistakably Cabernet based. Tastes of ripe dark berries, minerals and sage. Fruit is reserved, overall subtle with a long finish. Very smooth with soft tannins. Looking forward to revisiting this often.

Good wine but i prefer Ornellaia and Sassicaia... actually drank this with a 2003 Sassicaia. The tannins are rustic which make this wine much more italian then ornellaia etc. I also don't care for the syrah in this wine as much as cab franc in ornellaia and sass. It gives licorice and a heavier more masculine finish then the femininity that cab franc brings. overall a good bottle and happy to have some but it could be so much better with a traditional bordeaux blend.

(Drank at the Capital Grille.) Tightly wound at first, but it then starts to show some refined cinnamon, tobacco, cassis, beef, and a good deal of peppery spice (which presumably owes to the dash of Syrah). Full bodied, with some heavy-duty tannins that aren't quite integrated yet. Good depth and length, and quite tasty, but not really a memorable landmark.

Even at seven years, damn tannic and acidic, which is typical of Italian wine. Drank it the same night we had Numanthia, however, so it showed like vintage Bordeaux. Comparatively integrated tannins and ripe fruit. Licorice notes and nice structure. Two days later, still gong. As with Numanthia, will undoubtedly continue to go. I will hang onto the rest of it. Good stuff. Buy it if you can - fun to compare to other Cabs.

Tuscan. Fennel seed+ green nose. Another super elegant wine. Amazing interesting but wonderful. Balanced tannin and acid. Perfect age - maybe 1-2 years more? Light medicine in body - herbs. $95

Deep, dark ruby. On nose and palate, aroma and flavours of ripe fruit and clean earth. Oak still slightly too evident. Beautifully balanced, full bodied, great length and complexity. Wonderful wine.

Flock - Super Tuscan Tasting (Bob and Ann's): Full, open and luscious nose is decidedly new world with rich, sweet fruit, vanilla and oak spices. Palate follows suit with a full-bodied, creamy personality that shows rich fruits, vanillin, licorice and toasty oak. Medium-long finish and ever so slightly lacking grip. Still an excellent wine and my favorite of the Guado al Tasso's by a wide margin. Group's #6, My #4.

Decanted for 45 minutes. Big, sweet, cherries, cassis on the palate. Lovely nose, bit of a tannic finish with the syrah showing through. Very good wine that will probably get better with age. Paired well with a New York Steak.

Tasted in double-blind fashion at Vintage Wines, Ltd. The bottle for this tasting was provided by Ken Johnson. Deep ruby in color, the nose shows a very intense bouquet of kirsch, blackberries, licorice and exotic spices. Full-bodied on the palate, with low acidity and big ripe tannins. The flavors mirror the nose. Long, smooth finish.

still very tannic, sweet and concentrated, probably needs quite a bit more time in the bottle, as the tannin at the end is still quite bitter. next day, the bitterness decreased and sweetness increased with a little taste of raisins, still quite young tasting on the second day though.

Dark plum color. Found the much more accessible this time, but it was probably open a little longer. Huge fruit, very concentrated. Nice structure holding this wine up, and the tannins didn't seem quite as big this time. Very enjoyable bottle of wine. 91+

Excelente.

Today this wine is happy , nose is still slightly muted but theflavor is full with dark plum , currant and black raspberry. There is a spicy component and a slightly smokey firm finish. Outstanding super-tuscan. Drinking very well right now. Preserved dark fruit, casis, good structure, and long finisih. Excellent with a nice brisket. Amazing that a super-Tuscan can still taste a bit like sangiovese-- viva la terrior!

For once, my wife actually like a wine more than I do. There is plenty of heady plum and oak. Good acidity and smooth tannin. But the oak is a bit too prominent right now. Goes well with the food at a local Tuscan restaurant. I actually think the 99 I had a year ago was better than the 01 based on today showing. Overall an outstanding wine. For the price, the Tenuta Belgaurdo offered better QPR.

a wonderful wine....much better than their 99 or 2000 efforts. dark ruby red.....gives rise to a wonderful nose of fruit and licorice. The palate is very balanced, with intense and fully extracted fruit of blackcurrent and cassis well integrated with a soft tannin structure. drinks well now, but will be even better in 3-5 years...

Persistente. Che nettare.

Ripe and rich with a bit of oak still but on balance was low and just was not an impressive wine. 90 at best but we shall call this an off bottle and will not rate

Not going to rate this numerically tonight. Decanted for two hours. Raisin on the nose. Dark fruit on the palate, with coffee and prune notes. This just seemed unresolved, which surprised me a little, given its age. Will revisit this in another year-plus.

A great bottle, much more enjoyable than the Tignanello this time around ...

Tightly wound at first, but it then starts to show some refined cinnamon, tobacco, cassis, beef, and a good deal of peppery spice (which presumably owes to the dash of Syrah). Full bodied, with some heavy-duty tannins that aren't quite integrated yet. Good depth and length, and quite tasty, but not really a memorable landmark.

Smoke, tar, earth, pencil lead, and black currant nose. Rich, ripe and full-bodied palate. Chocolaty, smoky finish.

A real fruit bomb right now. Needs more time in bottle.

Fairly deep colour. Quite forthcoming nose, dried fruit, prunes, cherry, menthol and smoke as well as a touch of marzipan. Full bodied, smoky palate rich but with slightly rough tannin. Good balance and length, very nice but still young. (@DFWE)
