At a very good place right now, will go a long time more. Not sure if Napa cab gets any better, but that’s a nod to my liking old world cabs a lot as well. If you like jam and in your face this is not for you, if you love a wine that evolves and gives pause to sip slowly, this vineyard always comes across.

First bottle I've opened from this vintage, and think it will benefit from at least another 3 years in the cellar. Deep color. Black cherries, blackberries, leather, tobacco, dark chocolate and hints of leather and floral in the nose. Rich fruit, blackberries, black raspberries, black cherries, plums and hints of espresso in the flavor. Nice acidity, well balanced, nice complexity, and a medium to long finish. This wine would have warranted a higher score if not for the off putting vegetal notes in the mid palate which I have not experienced in other vintages of Togni. I will be curious if it is still there in three years when I open my next bottle.

Decanted and served . Followed in the footsteps of the 2004 Monetelena ( Papies 92-93) and showed its class of softer, more restrained mould old world Napa. Unsurprisingly on of our favourite producers given this style. Softer, less juicy, very herby and have we had this blind we would have looked at a more cab franc heavy wine from the right bank. Great now and this will only get better for sure. We have added this to our buy on sight wine list too. 93 for now and with definite potential for more as it ages.

I found this wine to be fantastic. Very elegant, the wine has aged beautifully with very little discoloration for it age. I decanted for about 30 minutes and thought this was the right amount of time. Someone said their bottle was "lifeless", I completely disagree with this. They must have had a flawed bottle. I agree with Rp's review below. This vintage has many more years to go, but is drinking very well right now.
95 pts Robert Parker's Wine Advocate Displaying a more saturated ruby/purple hue, the 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate offers a sweet perfume of blueberries, black raspberries, black currants, and spring flowers. More open aromatically than on the palate, it reveals medium to full body, and an elegant, finesse-styled personality. Togni’s wines always have a Bordeaux-like structure. It is a gracious, savory effort that should age for 20-25 years.

A blend of mainly Cabernet Sauvignon (80-85%) with some Merlot (approx. 15%), Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot (0-5%). Aged for approximately 20 months in oak barriques (40% new). 14,5% alcohol. Tasted in 2011-2000 Togni Cab vertical.
Quite dense and concentrated blackish-red color with a slightly translucent, brick-red rim. Savory and quite powerful nose with aromas of toasty oak spice, some ripe black cherry, a little bit of juicy blackcurrant, light inky tones, a boozy hint of alcohol and a touch of autumnal leaves. The wine is ripe, rich and silky on the palate with a full body and slightly sweetish flavors of strawberries and blueberries, some plummy tones, a little bit of black licorice, light evolved notes of wizened black cherries, a hint of toasty oak spice and a touch of alcohol warmth. The structure relies mostly on the moderately high acidity, as the soft, resolved tannins contribute mainly to the smooth texture. The overall impression is rather ripe and a bit round. The finish is ripe, juicy and gently grippy with some alcohol warmth and rich flavors of juicy dark plums, some blueberry tones, a little bit of licorice root, light nuances of blackcurrant and a hint of sweet oak spice.
A rich, juicy and silky vintage of Togni Cab. Unlike most other vintages, which have come across as quite old-school and rather Bordeaux-like in character, this wine was noticeably more Napa in style, coming across as noticeably softer and sweeter in character with less emphasis on herbaceous elements and more pronounced fruit ripeness. The acidity feels high enough to keep the wine in balance, but the overall impression is a bit soft and I must say I prefer the vintages that have shown more structure and firmness. Although the wine does feel like it could age many years longer, based on its rather limited tertiary character, I really don't get the feeling that this wine is going to improve much with further aging. It is drinking pretty well right now and I suppose that within a few years this will be showing the greatest combination of youthful, ripe fruit and more tertiary complexity. Although there's no hurry with this wine, I'd say drink this vintage sooner rather than later and let the more structured vintages age some more in a cellar.

Decanted 1.5 hours. Color looks like it’s only a few years old. Sweet red fruit, some earth and leather on the nose. Slight hint of oak on the tongue, over nice cassis, other tart fruits, some graphite. I would think Bordeaux if not for the sweetness of the cassis, this is really good, but indicative of 2007. Will look for some older vintages.

Enjoyed with good friends at Barbatella in Naples alongside a 2006 Dominus. Three hour decant and wines continued to improve all night. Both wines were spectacular and group was split regarding favorite. I enjoyed the Dominus slightly better but was a razor-thin difference. Bordeaux like nose, dark cherry, vanilla, leather, and hint of tobacco. Like the Dominus, it had a beautiful mouth feel and is in an idealic drinking window. Couldn’t believe how youthful the fruit was while exhibiting perfect harmony. Both wines have the backbone to age gracefully for many years to come but would absolutely recommend opening up either bottle today for an amazing experience. These are the types of wines that remind me why I collect!

Nose: The nose is deep and polished with cranberries, red cherries, raspberries, currants, herbs, licorice, chocolate, spice tones, sweet pipe tobacco, and roses. There is so much to dig into on this nose as it fills the glass with a subtle purity that keeps bringing you back.
Taste: The feel is Full bodied with medium acidity and silky and chewy, high tannins. The tannins are starting to show some resolution though there is still some youth to them. The feel is deep and polished with cranberries, red cherries, raspberries, herbs, licorice, currants, spice tones, sweet pipe tobacco, and roses.
Overall: This is really lovely and just a knockout right now. The window is wide open with about two hours of air as this is in a real sweet spot for those who would want more primary tones. If one is looking for more tertiary notes, then this can easily age another 5-10+ years.

We began to drink this bottle after a two hour decant and it was more Bordeaux than Napa, to our disappointment. But after five hours (this was a long and relaxed evening) it had opened up with more fruit, depth and finish. Black fruits, graphite, white pepper, and maybe camphor. Rating is for the last glass.

Fifth red wine at our wine tasting dinner (#DCWineCru) is the Philip Togni Cabernet Sauvignon from the Spring Mountain District in Napa Valley. Made up of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot. Definitely seems like it needed a longer decant to open up nicely.
Dark garnet red with a ruby core. A touch stinky on the nose with some dark berries and gravel as well as a little compost. Medium tannins (6/10) and medium plus bodied. Aged palate with layers of forest floor, truffles, mulched spices and a touch herbal with dark berries underneath. Medium plus to long finish. Drink till 2028. (91+)

Blackberry, black cherry, green bell pepper. Steely acidity. Decanted over 2 to 3 hours and this wasn't nearly enough air time. Will wait until 2020 to try again and will decant for 4-8 hours. I've never had a Cali cab that required this much patience.
Dark red in color. Nose of blackberry and cassis with some minerality. Lots of black and red fruits on a delicious palate. I don't find the tannins that others do. Very fine now with many years to go.

Initially I was very worried as I had coravin'd one glass a few months before and I thought the coravin has caused some air seepage and the wine was turning. This was very confusing as the nose was wet potato. I thought this was heading for 85pts.
After a few hours however the nose cleared itself and this came through stunningly. Great tannins 7.5/10 and rounded fruit.Dark chocolate with the tannins.

Deep garnet red. Something was a little off on the nose to start but wore off. Finally opened up with a notes that were a bit earthy and dirty with some greenery. Very light fruit on the nose. Moderate tannins (7/10) and full bodied. Long finish. Rounded and tons of red and dark fruits on the palate. Layered with cinnamon and nutmeg too. Velvety smooth and well integrated with time. A lot better than on initial opening. Huge turn around and great start to 2017. Drink till 2030.

Powerful, full bodied, concentrated and still quite young, there is a lot going on here. But the wine is still young, tight and holding back a lot in reserve. Like all Philip Togni wines, it is going to require time and patience. When people say, "They don't make them like used to" have them try a Togni Cabernet.

I have to agree with many of the recent notes. This wine is reluctant at this point. Very soft and supple across the palate, full bodied and balanced beyond belief, but nowhere near its peak expression. Four hour decant hardly made a dent.

Cruising the Oceans; 5/17/2015-5/24/2015: Chalk nose and less fruit forward than the Phelps 2012. Not decanted. Yet fruity immediately on the palate at the front. This gives way to a smooth balanced finish.

Coravin'd a taste to check in on this. Overall, this was closed down pretty tight. With quite a bit of air, some nice herbal notes came through in the mid-palate. There's lovely red fruit, and great balancing acidity to keep this fresh, but the tannins here are still holding court big time. The potential here is evident for 94-95 points, but these babies are going to need several years at a minimum. The CT drinking window starting around 2020 seems about right. I had some of the '99 on a couple of occasions recently and that was drinking really well. Hold, hold, hold...

Decanted- took an hour and then opened up progressively, matching well with porterhouse and onion rings. Third 2007 I have opened- none has disappointed, and there is a lot of promise. We happily accidentally bought two cases so we are luck to have one a year for a long time. The expectable marvelous Togni structure, finish, and mouth filling Napa Cab - long live Philip and family

more approachable than a Togni cab usually is at 7 years- decanted for an hour, consumed paired with prime steak grilled and grilled peppers and liked by all 6 of us whose wine experience was fully bimodal. Now will have to see if this matures and evolves like all its predecessors. There are plenty of drink it now california cabs and none of us who love Togni loved it for that reason- the rewards upon maturation made the wait worth it. Maybe 94 points down the road?

I hate to be the lone dissenter, but after four hours this wine was doing nothing special. Three of us drank it over the course of the night and I heard "astringent" and "bleu Cheese" thrown out when describing it. The bottle wasn't corked. But I did get it at Total Wine so who knows the condition of the wine. I don't see how that bottle would magically turn in 5 years to something great. Not a fan. So many better 07s I've had at that price and lower.

Philip Togni's produces excellent Cabernet consistently year after year, and his 2007 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is yet just another to add to the long list. It is jammed packed with dark currant, sweet cassis, bell pepper, tar, tobacco, mineral and even hints of floral mixed in. This wine is layered and complex, showing a side of elegance as well. The round dusty tannins guide the fruit effortlessly into the long delicious finish, where the wine continues to develop on your palate. This will only get better with more time to settle in, just an outstanding wine and everything I love about Cabernet. (Drink 2012-2027)

Tasted with Ridge, Blankiet and DOminus 2007. The Togni was clearly the leanest and most Bordeaux'ish in style. Having tasted older Tognis (1991, 1995, 1996, 1997) it is clear that his wines need a looong time before they become complex and interesting.

Blind home wine tasting with MOT Scoring sheet: Dark red with cassis nose and a touch of strawberry and tobacco. This can definitely lie down for many more years. Good heavy tannins and a nice long finish. Once the bottle was unveiled I compared it in my mind to the Tanbark and this has less heat and more body - just more enjoyable. I will not open another bottle until at least 2013/2014. This was decanted for 8 hours. S=95

Has a very nice balance - a little lushness to the fruit, a bit of spice, good color, good all around. A slight herby menthol pine note makes an appearance on the nose too. Juicy fruit, with good acidity to balance the spice and lush fruit. Moderate tannin showing. A toasty caramel note on the nose develops with some air. A lot to like about this wine. 93-95

Rich fruit, blackberries, black raspberries, black cherries, plums and hints of espresso in the flavor. Nice acidity, well balanced, nice complexity, and a medium to long finish.

This could easily be mistaken for a Bordeaux. Classic Togni good balance and tannins are starting to integrate. Have one left and wish I had more.

Deep mix of ruby and garnet red. Dark nose with a little bit of greenery, black currants and damp earthiness. Moderate tannins (7.5/10) and full bodied. A touch of forest floor on the palate with a good amount of mountain berries mixed in with gravel and spices. Solid structure and texture. Long and lingering finish. Drink till 2028.

At 10 years starting to approach drinkeability. Dark, dense with loads of fruit and plenty of tannins.

3 hour decant- very big up front but lacking middle and end- balance just isn't really there. Hard to say that this isn't in its prime but perhaps.

Long decant - strong tannins (8/10) and mellow dark red fruit with a full body. Always decant this for at least 6 to 10 hours. The fruit that was on the front end softened with the decanting which greatly improved the wine.

I think this will get much much better. Ended up buying two cases somehow, and glad I did. Only Togni I can recall that is drinking ok this young, but I think its beginning to close down a bit. Will wait a year to pull another. Drink something else if you can.
