Upon opening, I assumed this bottling was fading away. No nose, fairly mute on the palate, short finish. After about an hour open it did come around to be quite aromatically expressive, and with a lingering, if subtle finish. No hints of off, possibly smoke aromas that I have sometimes gotten with this wine. Probably time to drink up.

Inviting aroma of darker fruits, cedar and a touch of smoke. Rounded palate of sweet red fruits and baking spices. Medium-Light body with silken mouth feel. Some acidity remains. Would drink over the next 1-3yrs.

At this age, the oak and the alcohol are already ganging up on me. Quite spicy, some fruit (cherry, raspberry) that I think would have been better a year or two ago. On the 4th day under argon, some brett surprisingly appeared, which I think raised it one point.

A bit of effervescence upon opening but quickly escaped leaving behind an absolutely delicious rendering of Pinot Noir. Just the right amount of fruit not to be overbearing and great characteristics. Was my last '08 rogers. So sad but really at the end of the window anyway.

Nose is muted and abrasive. Smells like a mild cleaner. Here, the taste is much better than the nose. Mouthfeel is soft and plush - feminine. Taste is a new world pinot frame with a slightly bitter finish. There is a touch of funk. Decent soft red fruit. Overall, nice but not outstanding. I remember another bottle being better a few months ago.

The lightest Sojourn pinot yet. A very clear red. Opened at 5. First taste at 7. Cherries + some bitterness that wore off. At 8:00 there was some smokiness as this wine really smoothed out. It was the WOTN (wine of the night).

Absolutely hit the spot [as usual] as a full-throttle Sojourn Pinot. It's got this earthy crunchiness to it that comes across as an earnest authentic bottle of wine. I really enjoyed it. Gonzo that WS wen 78 on it - obviously an off bottle. If that's what it takes to knock a $48 bottle down into the $20s I wish they'd rate more CA Pinots like this poorly.

This was not as good a showing for this wine as the last bottle in December. Bottle variation perhaps? There is a weirdness that permeates the nose, palate and finish that I assume is smoke taint. The sweetness that comes to the fore at the finish seems incongruous vis a vis the other flavors. Part of the bottle down the drain. 86-87

Aerate in decanter 30 minutes. Medium garnet core, no sign of age. Brett dominates what seems to be some very pretty fruit underneath. Bacon fat, campfire, cherry, some strawberry. Medium bodied with generous acids. Smooth, Burgundian styling, save the brett, of course. Drink thru 2015, 14,2% abv

Dark ruby color with a clear meniscus. Black cherry and spice on the nose. Palate is medium- to full-bodied with cranberry, black cherry, and pine needle carrying to the finish. Fairly round with little supporting acidity, but the pine aspect creates enough complexity to keep this interesting. Quite enjoyable if you're going for a heavier-styled pinot.

Decanted 1 hour. Quite smokey on the nose with notes of cherry, baking soda and a little vanilla oak. Red cherry and cranberry fruit profile with notes of cloves and stone. Nice balance and minerality to this wine. The red fruit was a little sweet initially but became less so as the wine evolved over the course of a few hours. Very smooth and elegant mouthfeel. Quite a long finish with smooth tannins. Defintely the most burgundian of the Sojourn offerings i have tried. Should improve over the short term. Sadly this was my only bottle but i am looking foward to trying the '09 and '10 vintages of this wine although based on this bottle i may hold them for a couple of years.

Dark ruby red. Followed over two nights. The first showed smoky notes all over the nose and palate. Big red fruit with some alcohol showing on the back end. Sealed and will retaste the next day. Day 2 shows powerful cloves and red fruit on the nose. Sweetish red fruit on entry, but a bit of an angular mouthfeel. Still showing heat on the finish. Not in balance right now.

This has come together and is drinking substantially better than bottles about a year ago. Tart cranberry and smokiness on the nose...integrated on the pallate, a bit of astringency on the finish, but nothing approaching the disappointing showings for this wine a year ago. I do wonder how close this vineyard was to the fires that plagued some areas of CA during the vintage 90-91

I can smell this for days. My first thought was that this smells like fall. Cloves, baking spices and earth. Beautiful pure red fruit on the palate with spices and toasty oak. I like this and think the oak and acid will integrate even more in a year or so and make this an even better bottle for my palate.

Very seductive nose of strawberry cherry cola and earth mixed. Much like the other sojourn offerings, this is smooth on the palate, but unlike the rest of the lineup, this one comes off as more "European". There's complexity on the nose and palate, and the whole experience is lighter, more elegant. I like this.

Stupendous nose: huge, fragrant, with deep, ripe cherry and cola notes, along with mushrooms and earth. Full and smooth in the palate. Low in acidity, with big cherry fruit flavors once again. A little bit of heat on the finish. Hedonistic.

Light in the glass and some nice dark fruited aromas. By sight and smell alone, I would expect this wine to be silky smooth. However, the flavor profile is more "spicy" at best or "smoky" at worst. Thankfully the spicy flavor is subtle with this bottle. I enjoyed the wine mainly for its nose.
This "smoky' flavor profile is something I have found in most (all?) of the 2008 Sojourns I have had, which tells me that the flavor has a lot to do with the winemaking. If true I'm not sure if it's good or bad, but at least I've had my "ah ha" moment tonight.

Medium ruby color. Nose of black cherry, spice, forest floor and a hint of mushroom in the background. Spicy red fruit on the palate along with some minerality, pomegranate and cranberry flavors. High acidity makes up for the somewhat soft tannins but there is great balance in this wine. Smooth mouthfeel and long, clean finish. Possibly my favorite 08 Sojourn to date.

Light transparent ruby red. The nose shows intense red fruit, smoky aromatics and some spicy notes. This is a high intensity Pinot. Full bodied. Just a blast of red fruit bordering on the sweet side. Lots of oak flavors here as well. Spiced orange peel permeates. There must be acidity here, but this borders on being flabby. A shot of alcoholic heat on the back end as well. This is a jumbled up wine at the moment, and I don't taste the elements that make me think it will evolve to a good place.

Nice earthy and herby varietal aromas. Spicy Dr. Pepper flavors. Feels pretty rich & extracted. Enough acidity with soft tannin, but doesn't feel structured for the long haul. Full bodied, creamy. Dinner with Jane and Mitch. Took it up a notch to expose Miych to this, rather than the Sojourn Pinot we drank last time. You should have seen his face! Fruit forward, with cherries and cranberries present. The restaurant was dark, so it was hard to see the color of the wine. Very sweet on pop and pour. A little hot going down. There was a hint of mineral taste. The nose was fragrant. Some herbal notes at 60 minutes. I'll let my other bottle rest. This was purchased at regular price. My JJ Buckley is resting.

This wine went through some interesting stages as it was exposed to air. Right at opening it was wide open, flamboyant and wonderful. It started to shut down with about 30 minutes of air, completely closed. After about 3 hours of air it starts to come back around and this is where I am taking the note. Dark ruby red color with a purple tinge and some lightening at the edges. Nice sappy nose of cranberry, pomegranate, bit of black cherry and maybe a hint of raspberry. Touch or orange zest, nutmeg and some citrus like floral elements. Palate is much darker in profile when compared to the nose. More of the cranberry with some raspberries, firm structure with ample acid and a nice dose of toasty oak. Really firm and dark on the palate, seems to be wound up nice and tight, a bit unforgiving but plenty of stuffing for the long haul. Tons of room for upside here but needs at least 3 years.

popped and poured the day it arrived from a cross-country shipment. Quite cloudy. A fruits and a touch of earth on the nose. somewhat muddy palate. Rather disjointed. I never quite know how to interpret all the anecdotal reports of travel shock, yet there may wel be something to it. On the nose, initially a bit of earth and gaminess, giving way to cherry and spice qualities. On the palate, well-balanced, with red fruit elements, spice, cloves, mild, peppery tannins, great velvety mouth-feel, and a lengthy finish. Had along side the generic 08, and this by far outshone it.

Beautiful nose of cherry with subtle orange. I loved the mouthfeel, weighty for a pinot, but with a glycerin silkiness. Finishes like a slowly fading sunset. One of the finest domestic pinots I have ever had. It's still very fruity right now. I think with some time the earthiness will come to balance the fruit and reveal a real blockbuster.

Pinot Noir Tasting (Advisory Board offices): Interesting nose of cherry cola, spices, meat drippings, and sour cranberry. This is densely packed with ripe cherry, clove spice, toasted oak, creamy cranberry. I really loved the nose of this wine, but I thought it would have benefitted from a bit more acidity to balance out the ripe fruit.

tons of cola, red flower and mushroom aromas, very fragrant, velvety across the palate, smooth flavors of spice, creamy strawberries, more creamy strawberries, cola, spices, and hints of fresh earth on the finish, this is my kind of Cali PN, the texture is fabulous, the balance is great, not over-the-top, but full of flavor, lengthy finish, I am a fan of this vineyard

Had at K&L Sojourn Cellars tasting with winemaker. Most of the wines were too syruppy, extracted and over the top but this one, even the winemaker pointed out, was more "earth driven" for my taste, I say earth driven is best, at least from this particular house. This is 80% Pommard clone and the balance 777 clone. It's mellow, nutmeggy and spicy.

Great nose - dark, earthy, smoky, leathery. Rich cherry and cola on the palate. Solid mouthfeel. Improved nicely with air.

Chicago Pinot Days-2009 (Navy Pier, Chicago IL): nose: nice and lighter styled nose with tones of pepper, red florals, spices and red cherries
taste: very nice medium feel with pretty tones of spices, herbs, red cherries and a touch of red florals
overall: a real nice pinot. On the lighter side of things, this has a nice feminine style to it

Pinot Days 2009 (Navy Pier - Chicago, IL): Very nicely crafted Pinot showing true terroir driven white flower and earthy, loamy qualities.
Palate is silky smooth and shows nice length on the finish.
