  • Great bottle but the time is now. This is definitely at its apex if not just ever so slightly beginning the slow, gradual, inevitable decline. Today, it is still very good. Lots of secondary nuanace, good fruit, acidity fading but still something there. Some slight rim variation but nothing major. Drink up for sure but quite nice and this a classic Ech.

  • Pnp. Quite floral with integrated oak, red fruit and citrus. Palate has tart fruit and friendly oak but the gc weight is missing.

  • Cork almost pushed in to the wine when I tried to insert the corkscrew. Very soft cork and clearly not an air tight plug any longer. Initially this smelled foul. After 15-20 minutes was better. Funk blew off after 30 and it gained weight. It became a wonderful aged Burg after an hour and drank well for 2 hours. Hour 3 it began to fall apart. Clearly not the best bottle from condition standpoint but while it was drinking well it was 94-95 pts. Secondary notes and loads of nuance. Good Vosne spice on the nose. Some bricking but not too much. Hope my last bottle is in better shape.

  • Decanted but drank right away. The cork disintegrated getting it out. Frankly think the decant did this well. Light ruby red. In that perfect spot of nuance, secondary and tertiary flavors and ever changing in the glass (for the better). Loads of complexity. Strong finish. Went well with a spicy pork chop and sausage.

  • Very pale salmon colour with some browning. Nose gorgeous with strawberries, cherry, game and spice. Palate medium weight but very complex and interesting with the intensity without weight descriptor important in understanding this wine. Fine with soft and long finish. Clearly a light touch with the extraction here in 1995. I would drink up on this bottle though.

  • Burgundy Night at Martin and Joyce's (The Serenade): This was first class. Lovely nose. Animale, meaty, barnyard bass notes intermingled with higher-toned flowers and dark fruit notes, with complex nuances of pomelo, broiled white asparagus and smoke - all in a rather umami mix. Lovely. Superb integration from the nose, to the attack and into the finish as well. The bouquet just flowed onto the palate, which showed lovely red fruit with some ripeness, more roasted asparagus. mineral notes and, moving into the long, fresh, open finish, meat and dried cherries. There was just a lovely sense of balance and texture throughout, with fresh acidity wed to fine tannins, giving the wine a lovely backbone. So well was this integrated that it provided a great sense of structure without ever being obvious. Any oak regime was not apparent at all either. Instead, we got a clean, complete and open wine with a lovely sense of purity - delicious.

  • Pinot Smackdown 2009 (Barrington IL, Wally's house): nose: striking smokey nose off the bat with good amounts of black spices, dark cherries and earthen tones. Excellent depth and class with a good amount of polish

taste: elegant and robust with melded tones of truffles, smoke tones, black spices, earth, dark cherries, and bits of forrest floor. Great silky feel with good depth of flavors and good medium+ acidity

overall: Clearly old world. Very classy and elegant, with a good firm robustness at the same time

  • Purchased about 8 months before serving. A pretty 1995, ruby red showing maturity, did not decant nor strain -- the last glass was a touch cloudy. Aromatically clean with earth, beautiful barnyard, roses and tart cherry. The palate started more loamy and deep at first, but gave way to a dominant showing of bright, picquant cherry/cranberry, and tangy finish of substantial length. Faded a bit after three hours, after starting in a very good spot. The high levels of persistent acidity gave it a bit of an unbalanced endgame, keeping this excellent wine just short of outstanding.

  • Color was much much lighter than last bottle. Showed a translucent burnt red core with a clear edge. Initially a lot of barnyard dominated the nose but that blew off. The nose was less powerful than previous bottle but still appealing and exotic- smoke, Cigar ash, cola, some tar with coaxing, cherries, fresh dirt, and forest floor and a hint of pine resin. The palate is more acidic than the last bottle and drinking much more mature. Perhaps this is an off bottle. The finish though is very long. This was a decent experience but it just wasn’t as elegant and quixotic as the last bottle.

  • Dinner at Carlos' (Carlos'-Highland Park, IL): Wine possessed a very earthy and resiny nose that screams sophistication and old world elegance. The wine was smooth and soft in the mouth with an excellent feel, purity, and balance. The finish was long and delicious. I am going to buy some of this as this is a excellent bottle of burgundy.

  • Dinner with Friends (Carlos' Resturaunt, Highwood IL): nose: a wonderous sexy nose filled with raspberry, earth tones, tart black cherry, brown spices, and forrest floor tones on the first smell. Amazingly deep, this continues to open up and provide further scents of mushrooms and bits of soy sauce flavors

taste: lush and silky with great and balanced tones of raspberry, mushrooms, tart black cherries, brown spices, and bits of soy

overall: great luscious feel and very heady and etheral that is just great right now. This wine is really starting to come into its own and will further develop. Great polish and weight this just glides across and lets you contemplate. This wine is why one drinks burgundy as its filled with all sorts of nuance and beauty that gives off a polished and silky attack of mushrooms+raspberry and finishes off with a nice tart black cherry finish

  • Full red. Forward aroma of black cherry, briar, spice, and clean strawberry. Rich smooth lovely red fruits and spice on a firm acidic frame. Drinking very well, but should hold for hears. Not over oaked at all for a Laurent. 5/05
