red-ish, brown, in color. leather, smoke, cherry, tangerine, on the nose. blackberry, oak, smoke, cough syrup, on the palate. medium acid, huge tannins, on this bitter oaky finish.

1997 - 2007 Grenache Pairs (Tom's House, Palo Alto, CA): Ruby red, translucent. Sweet red cherry fruit, very Pinot-like nose. Medium bodied with low acidity. Sweet, sweet, syrupy red fruit. A bit of bitter tannin and heat. Not my style. (my 7th, group's 4th)

1999-2007 Grenache Pairs (Palo Alto, California): Tasted Blind - Some signs of aging through the ruby edge color. Nice nose. Strange and somewhat offending palate with hints of alcohol and heat in the finish, but yet very enjoyable. 100% Grenache Group's #4 (my #4) – 38 pts – 1/1/3/0

Medium to dark crimson with a garnet edge and a deep rich nose of tart red berries with a nod to strawberries and just a tad of baking spice. Medium entry that accelerates and holds at mid palate showing some nice nuances of blue and blackberry with a sweet sense of strawberry underneath...resloved fruit grip and just enough acidic bounce to balance. Ready to go, this was in a "sweet spot" with no overriding detractions.

Not decanted. Bandaid and candied blueberries with some chocolate on the nose and in the mouth. Pleasant, but not particularly interesting this time. Heat was not an issue with this bottle, but the lack of acid/structure was.

Tasted May 8, 2007 at home. Opened and served immediately in a Spiegelau Authentis Magnum glass. Garnet color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Nose of red currants, black cherries, red berries and a little white pepper on the finish. PURPLE also noted dark rich fruits up front.. Flavors of red licorice, red berries, red cherries and a little dusty on the finish. Medium acidity, medium to firm tannins, medium bodied. Alcohol seems a little too high. Drink over the next couple of years.

Clear garnet color, not too much darker than a pinot. A nose of cherry jam, black pepper, and alcohol. Very tasty mouthfull of strawberry jam, peppery spices and licorice, a nice mushroom undertone, and more alcohol. Janette liked it better than I did, a lot of nice stuff going on, but a little too much alcohol for me.

Very rich strawberry and cherry liquor with peppery spice. Mouth coating fruit with a lush feel. Heat more noticable on the finish than acidity. Was okay with pizza, but is almost a meal in itself.

Yikes, this is delicious but a bit too sweet and wow, that 16% alcohol hits you right between the eyes. Big yum factor, but not for the faint of heart or even for much food. Maybe for dessert. Fruity, with some decent white pepper spices and a touch of oak, but when it comes down to it, this is a rock n roll wine, not a ballroom dancer! Clearly not an ager, drink now - 2 years.

Nose had a little maple syrup along with the fruit, you could tell it was going to pack a punch. dark and thick. a little hot and tastes of blackberry and cherry with a tad of the maple syrup that was in the nose.
I enjoyed it but not as much as before.

Yawza! This is nearly port like, both in its flavor profile and its alcohol contents. This is definitely not the wine for the meek or for a time when you are looking for subtlety or sophistication. Still, at the right time this rocks. Tons of fruit, hints of blackberry brandy.

Decanted for 20 minutes. Color is dark ruby with a slight lightening at the rim. Body is medium to light. On the nose, very nice...cool menthol, light spice, and red fruits. On the palate, cherry liquor and pepper. The balance is decent, but it is pretty hot on the finish (the heat dissipates some after 2 hours). The finish is decent in length at 20 seconds, but it is adversely affected by an alcohol aftertaste. I definitely would have liked this one a bit better if not for the alcohol showing through so much.

Tasted along site 20 other Grenache bottlings. The nose is ultra-sweet and it climbs out of the glass. The mouthfeel is soft and the finish is fairly long. There may be some residual sugar left in this one. It is a very fun Grenache that is one dimensional.

Some wines are made for introspection, and others are made for straight drinking. This falls into the latter camp although it was plenty interesting in any regard. With gobs of fruit it attacked the palate and jumped all over it, literally filling my mouth with glorious flavors of cherry, pepper and licorice. The mailer said this was going to be a fun wine and it was. At $25 it’s a little much to make this a standard house red or burger wine, unless you have the bank account (we don’t) that can justify it, but if you have money to burn, you could do worse than this gem.

Tasted February 23, 2005 at an offline at Olives Restaurant in Las Vegas, NV. Tasted immediately without decanting in Judel Syrah glasses. Could not determine color in the poor light of the restaurant. Rustic. Picked up some berries, cola and mesquite tree (still living, not cooking out on your grill!). I agree wine wino4ever: chocolate covered cherries on the palate! Bruiser of a wine weighing in at 16.4% alcohol “according to the label”. Interesting wine but not one that I would purchase personally. You be your own judge.

2003 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Tasting with GMS ringers from other countries (Rich & Peggy's House, Los Altos, CA): Excellent nose, despite being a little bit hot. Very rich palate with cherries and mature tannins. Fairly long finish that gives you the impression you are drinking a soft Port (!). Tasted blind.
My #5, Group's #5 (74 pts).

Good red fruit and berries. More spicy notes than last year. Not decanted -- expressive from the get go and did not evolve much over the evening.
