I tend not to buy FX Pichler, as there is a premium over other producers I like as much. But very glad I bought this one! Honied but not hot or heavy. Grapefruit pith, ripe tropical fruits, green pea, mineral. No sign of age except a light petrol note, very long. A-

You have to accept the sugar in the backrow !! After that you get a lot going on in the glass. Tons of minerals and bitterness. Yellow fruit bowl and super long finish. Real amazing. If you like the sweet side more than i do i can see higher scores. You can discuss the style but not the quality !! 94 for me 99 for others for sure

Golden yellow. On the ripe and opulent end of spectrum of GV. Rich juicy pear and honeydew fruit. Plenty of classic pepper and possessing subtle grassy notes. Despite this being a big wine, it paired nicely with an veggie based farro dish. Very nice, drinking wonderfully tonight.

C'est étonnement long... long... long.
Impressionnant : très mûr et vert en même temps. Très gras...beaucoup d'amertume... mais équilibré quand même. Quel vin atypique. J'adore. 19/20

Tech G's Birthday Bash (Reno, NV): Deep yellow color... aromatic intensity out the wazoo... very ripe aromas for gv of tropical fruits, flowers, minerals... no barrique notes, no malo notes, no botrytis... on the palate the wine has plenty of acidity to keep the huge midpalate in check, the highish ETOH is also well contained. Great balance, very good length, insane intensity, great complexity... not a "finesse" wine per say but delivers its power with good finesse, a fine, full texture, good expression of place. Easily "outstanding" wine for me that borders on "extraordinary"witht he caveat that is a ripe, full throttle style of gv... really good example of a wine with tons of minerality and tons of fruit aromas... drinks well now but has structural elements to age 10+ years. Awesome.

Just an absolutely stunning wine in every way. It had me thinking, it had me guzzling the glass 'til it was drained in no time. Specifically, the main thing it had me thinking about is greenness, and how that concept is so often misused in the lexicon of wine tasting. This is probably the most verdant wine I've ever had. Burying your nose in the glass and taking a taste feels like traipsing through a meadow of waist-high grass in some kind of faerie fantasyland or at the very least a soap commercial. And yet the terms green and vegetal are almost always used to condemn something as underripe. Time for this to stop. Just because something is vegetal doesn't mean it's underripe! Haven't you ever heard of ripe vegetables? This wine is green, but lusciously green, in the fashion of sun-kissed vegetation at the precise moment when it seems to embody the freshness of spring and you want to keep eating it plucked right off the plant, and then when you do it oozes with sappy grüner veltliner juice.

The nose and palate were complex and layered, with notes of pear and passion fruit. All at once, this wine was rich and tasty, with good acid - yet at the same time it was fresh and light on its feet, very refreshing.
The acid presented more as exotic (ie passion fruit) than citrus.
I just couldn't get enough of this - very highly recommended. Was fantastic.

Pre-Mothers' Day gathering at Holger's and Shelley's: Exotic nose of white fruits, flinty mineral and floral/herb notes. Palate is both penetrating and ethereal. Exudes finesse and complexity. Great length. Even following a very distinct and expressive dry Riesling this GV really showed its class. Stunning.

Gruner's and Riesling.; 4/3/2011-4/4/2011 (Mandu Washington Dc): Nose of funky fur, tobacco, herbs, white pepper. Palate of lemon peel, white grapefruit, funk, tobacco, white pepper. Long finish with really good acidity and mouthfeel. Really funky when first opened, love this. 93-94

Riesling & Gruner Dinner (Mandu - Washington, DC): Exotic nose of grapefruit, beeswax, white flowers, and subtle, underlying tobacco. Compared to its Kellerberg companion, this was far more open and expressive. While the Kellerberg made you work to understand its complexities, the "M" was the bombshell that made you stare. Hard to complain though about what's going on here. Yes, the style is forward but what the bottle may lack in subtly, it makes up for with its remarkable balance. Underlying minerals with sharp acidity keep the tropical fruits in check.

Gruner Veltliner and Riesling at Mandu (Mandu - Washington, DC): peaches, white lillies on the nose with some white pepper. the palate is filled with green apples, golden pears, and a hint of cinnamon. there's a great onion, dill and white pepper flavor, like a ukrainian green borscht. great balance. what a gorgeous wine.

2008 FX Pichler Tasting (Red Slate, Portland, Oregon): The nose is impressive, and straight up reminds me of standing at the edge of a glacier! Ice, water, and minerals are all blended together into something engaging despite the fact that such descriptors don't sound too exciting at face value. Smoked almonds, lemons, and green apple scents appear as well. This is clean on contact with austere minerality giving a hint of salinity early on. Light lychee flavors grow on the mid palate with a spicy green note showing. I think the alcohol is playing into this feeling of spice a bit, but it's not obvious. The lychee flavors linger on the mid palate while the salinity on the sides of the mouth evolves into drying acidity. The wine has a very round feel to it on the mid palate. Lovely!

Funky nose of fur, lemon peel, little petrol, herb. Palate of lemon lime, with loads of minerality. This improved over the time it was open, so would recommend a decant or aging. Tasted again and liked it more than initially.

07&08 F.X. Pichlers (Tooch's apt, Washington DC): nose: extremely interesting and deep nose of cinnamon spices, all sorts of floral tones, peaches, white fruits, and a touch of fresh picked citrus'. Very deep and a bit tightly wound right now, but showing off a very pretty and expressive side to it
taste: great medium/full feel and medium/high acidity with great and balanced tones of cinnamon spices, white florals, bits of peaches, and a good bit of mineral tones as well showing through
overall: Very young and an interesting contrast to the 07 "M". Both show off a level of gruner that I haven't really had and there is a lot of class to this. The aromatics are very complex as are the tones on the palate and both have great depth. This would be a great wine to revisit down the line

F.X. Pichler Tasting (my apartment): Smoked herbs, diesel fuel, and lemon zest on the nose. Somewhat disappointed this time with this bottle's mid-palate...very very attractive minerality, and acidity. Would go wonderfully with roasted pork, chicken, and almost all types of seafood. Beautifully elegant.

pale yellow color; on the nose you get apples and pineapples; spicy on the palate with some smokiness, creamy with molten pepper and sweet fruit, elegant acidity, very balanced and structured; long and lingering finish. Very good wine, especially for the vintage.
