Burgundy Tasting (Restaurant Brunnenstube, Beinstein): Clear, deep golden color. Wonderful smoky and dense nose, very expressive and complex. On the palate classic DomPi: Quite baroque, some caramel, warm fruit, noticeable sweetness, smoky. But also with a wonderful depth and pressure. Very long and lingering finish. Ready for the show, but no need to hurry, will last for at least another decade. 93-94

NobleRottersSydney - Bordeaux night (Glass Brasserie, Sydney): {cork} [Andrew] Appreciably darker in colour than the 08. Less autolysis on the nose and indeed palate; this was more about nuts with a fino-sherry hint than yeast. Squash flavours, yellowing flowers, even a bit of tinned corn. Not that it was oxidised in any way, but maybe just showing the extra years and the effect of a very hot vintage compared to the preceding 2008. Seemed fuller-bodied also, with more obvious and aggressive bubbles, but finished only medium length. Certainly at – or even beyond – peak drinking, assuming a typical bottle.

Not a huge amount of pressure and pop. Seemed a little advanced with bruised apple and some bitterness on finish. Good depth and rich flavour but fizz dissipates quite quickly. Not a great bottle or just getting too old.

Surprisingly youthful and will probably improve even more. Toasty on the nose and felt like a blanc de blancs. In the mouth it is candied fruit, white chocolate, blood orange and grapefruit, with a long finish.

Nice frothy mousee. Aromas of toasty, creme brulee and fresh lathed oak arouses my senses. Ripe stonefruit, white and yellow candy. Lush and creamy with good acidity. Peach cobbler and a touch of lemon peel. Paired with strawberries and aged cheddar. Fantastic!

Excellent. Right now it is far better than the 2002. Fresh, a lot of pressure, very precise. I wish I could swap the quantity of 2002 DP in my cellar with DP 2003. Unfortunately I only bought 12 bottles back then (because some critics were sceptical), now only left a few.

Dom Perignon 1959-2012: Ten wines, eight DPs plus a 2002 P2 vs Moet Collection match-up. A superb tasting. All five 40+ years old DPs showed lively, complex, balanced and intellectually as well as hedonistically appealing. Best wine was the 1976 (97pts) which needed air to blow of some faulty/oxidation notes and reveal all its glorious complexity and freshness. Just a step behind (all 96pts) the hyper complex 1959, an almost young-ish 1975, and the still tight but incredibly fine and promising P2. An odd-ball 1980 (95pts), likely a special bottling with higher dosage, showed like a Piper Heidsieck Rare on steroids. The only disappointments were the very slightly corked 2003 (but showed superb substance underneath) and a badly corked 1990.
TN: Unfortunately, corked. As it was only slightly corked, I still tried it. The volume on the attack was quite impressive, this is a complex wine and while broad still on the good side of things. There is a good freshness and with with much more tension than I expected. I’ve never tried the 2003 before but it seems that this is now in the spot and highly enjoyable.

Dom Pérignon through Decades: Matter of Taste Masterclass “Dom Pérignon through Decades”. Impressive demonstration of the longevity of Dom Pérignon 1959-2012 with most still decent if not great shape. However, I did prefer the linearity of more recent vintages (2012, 2003) and consequently the wine of the tasting was also the straightest of them all which was the 2002 P2. Of the older vintages 1980 and 1975 were drinking best in my view. More snippets on history, fun facts and wine list included in the tasting story.
Tasting note: This was slightly corked unfortunately. Intense lemon zest fruit along with the ripe pear, again lightly toasted with defined brioche, fine nutty notes and fresh herbal accents. Similarly intense, almost boastful palate which unfortunately is also slightly tainted. More lemon-type of fruit. Even though this was never completely clean, I am more than happy to venture an excellent score of 95 here as this just showed so much potential! Need to revisit...

NYE 2022/23 (Gohlis Foodies): From 75cl, hard, compacted cork slipped out easily, P+P. The best part is the texture: quite weighty on the entry, with very tiny, non-aggressive bubbles. There was also an attractive smoky edge to the nose, which persisted on to the mid-palate, and made a fine match for smoked trout and caviar nibbles. That said, both scent and taste were very muted, no false notes but nothing distinctive, and the fizz went flat far too quickly (20 minutes). I wonder whether this bottle, although properly stored, might have received rough treatment prior to sale. And whether the cork was really up to the job. 90–91P(?)

Still youthful, but thoroughly enjoyable. Putting out some secondary notes now. Right in the sweet slot with this vintage if you like young-ish Champagne , which I prefer. Bread, lemon, and pear on the nose. Quite bubbly still, with a nice sweetness to the vanilla-tinged fruit. Very long too.

Still going strong, surprisingly little development at 19 years old and had a fresher zesty nose (slightly atypical for dom with some age in my experience), more subtle smoky notes that I typically associate with dom, a bit reticent, but very enjoyable. Slightly leaner than some other vintages but good acid and nice effervescence, shorter finish. Definitely not a top vintage dom and I would venture to say slightly atypical for the house style but still retains the hallmarks just less pronounced. Enjoyed with good friends, 91-92

Big whiff of green apple upon pulling the cork but this seemed to fade fairly quickly. Extremely fine mousse. Lots of iodine with a little citrus on the nose. Pallet that seemed to be dominated by oyster shell and minerals with no toasty or yeasty notes. Light lemon in color. Ok mouthfeel . Long finish. As much as I try, I'm just not a big fan of dom p and fail to see it's allure or justification for it's price point.

Hard to judge this one fairly, served mid-evening and to keep it fresh it was chilled and unopened until just before we drank. So the first few sips were locked down a little, but with air and warming whoa baby it opened! The 2003 is in a great place right now, it's super rich and round, but has ample acidity to match the power. Was surprised it was an 03 given the freshness.
QPR 7.5 (of 10)
Aging 2030 at least

Dinner at B&A (B&A's): Served blind, this is m6 first experience of the 03. Nicely rich nose, toast ones combined with that flinty reductive note Dom usually gives. Lacking some effervescence, but creamy enough on the attack. Quite vinous. Not as overdone as I’d have expected for the vintage. Maybe a little shorter than usual, but still an excellent drink. ****

Pronounced nose intensity with notes of mineral, bread, toast, ripe apple, nutty. Deep lemon in colour. More rounder as compare to 2002 Delamotte and 2004 Cristal. Very complex structure but little effervescent left.

Some time since I have had this - it has developed fairly nicely. The nose still had that elevated toastiness, with brioche and burnt bread tones laced with yeast and a bit of apple, berry and stone fruit. Pleasant enough. The palate was an unusually ripe DP, but certainly fresh and in balance, with decent orange acidity enlivening notes of red apples, stone fruit and a little touch of spice and mineral. There was just a hint of bitterness at the end that threw this off a bit, but otherwise a very drinkable, quite delicious mouthful.

Big and bold, dosage still noticeable. Deep yellow color, still some mature yellow fruit present but also browned butter and coffee notes. Good but not the most elegant version of Dom P.

Hyper ripe, tropical on the nose and palate with a lot of syrupy sweetness. Missing all the usual Dom reductive character: very flabby and not more-ish as there’s not enough acidity to balance the ripeness. I’d leave this for 10 years to see what becomes of it (not least because it’s not that enjoyable today) and perhaps time will help it lose some of the flabby-ness. It might come good, but boy is it a disappointing bottle of wine today.

It's been seven years since the last one, and this has added some weight, and breadth while maintaining a nice degree of freshness, too. Typical aromas and flavors, with a lingering finish. Many years yet ahead.

A bit lighter and fruitier than I was expecting, but still a little light toast came in at the back palate after sitting in the glass a bit. Nothing about this said “we’ll aged” except for maybe the color with a deeper yelllow hue, but still delightful.

Wonderful decadent nose of yellow fruits and brioche. The palate is fleshy and decadent and delicious with flavors of pear, peach, brioche and a little seashell coming through. This is good for drinking now but does not have the structure to be a long ager in my opinion.

Dinner at the Papies (The Papies, Elizabeth St, London): Another great show of this wine that against the all odds end up something solid. 2 years since we tried this last and remains a consistent 93. A bit atypical for a Dom less later focussed and fattier but a solid and delicious wine nonetheless. 92-93

NYEtoNY session at Maison Dakota. Champagne to start. Drank in Gabriel Standart. Appearance is clear, pale intensity, yellow gold colour. Thin legs. Bubbles. Nose medium+ intensity, with aromas of brioche, cream, honeyed almond nuts, ripe citrus lemon, ripe peach, orange peel, chalk, limestone. Developing. On the palate, dry, actually high acidity (though the sensation is somewhat flattened by the ripe fat), medium- alcohol (12.5%), medium+ body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of oxidative nut, almond, ripe citrus lemon curd, ripe peach, orange peel, kumquat, salty minerality, oyster-shell. Fat broad long finish with a bit of lingering bitter orange peel. Very good quality. Wasn't that convinced by it on pop and pour, but now re-tasting it day 2 it is showing better. Complex. Sweet ripe fruits are good. My opinion on this controversial 2003 vintage Dom P is that is actually quite good and will continue to evolve well over the next 4-5 years or maybe even longer.

Clos St Jacques Dinner (Gunther's, Purivs Street, Singapore): Yummy in its own right, but this suffered from being served next to a supremely elegant and refined 2004 Cristal. The DP just seemed bigger and a little clumsier. Still though, a really good effort for 2003. The nose showed ripe yellow fruited notes with touches of earth and white meat and spice, and then a brighter lift of strawberries that was more characteristic Dom. The palate carried some of the richness suggested on the nose, with sweet red apples and red berries, all with a certain ripe warmth to them, and then a bit of toasty brioche, mineral and spice at the end. Not one for the ages - this was on the richer, riper, toastier side then, but still decently balanced and poised nonetheless. Went well with food too.

Popped and poured - lots of effervescence. Gorgeous aromas, but a bit thin on the palate. Decanted into a tall/narrow beaker and consumed over two hours. With air this really opened up at the loss of effervescence. Pretty aromas of seashell and brioche. Flavors of brioche. Hint of bitterness on the finish. Medium body.

I don't think that Ive ever had a bad DP. With 16 years on it, this is as good as it can get and while its pretty snappy with hints of seashells and sea funk, it lacks mid palate and length..I think its all grown up with nowhere to go, but its quite delicious for a nice brunch under the sun or clouds...Drink

This wine continues to deliver respectable but not outstanding performances. Nice nose of flowers and minerals. The palate is orchard fruit, seashell and biscuit. It has a fairly open knit family style and lacks the acid backbone that would indicate a long ager. Enjoy over the next ten years.

Don’t get me wrong - this was a very good champagne. Well made, not overly ripe, adequate acidity... and drinks very well..
But is this a DP worthy of its name? Don’t think so. LVMH shouldn’t have made a DP that year. Don’t think it has the ability to age as well as the other DP vintages post 2000 but should still keep for a decade more..

Considered as a difficult vintage. The result remains great 15 years later. Straw yellow hue, gently sparkling, the dominant taste is yeasty layered with white fruits. we thought that it would last longer in mouth (lack of acidity..thus the 2029 horizon in the drink dates seems far fetched) but overall it's ample, elegant The association with a blue lobster from Brittany deep sea was a great moment !

Consistent with previous notes this is a more open fleshy style of dom with tropical fruits, seashell, almonds flavors in a very approachable but serious style. This is very good and in a good drinking window but not sure this will be the longest lasting Dom.

Dom Perignon Masterclass, " Les Plenitudes of Dom Perignon " with Richard Geoffroy (Decanter FWE, The Landmark hotel, London): The wine that Richard Geoffroy calls he personal favorite and the P2 version of this will be hos legacy in DP. The year he went against the odds to produce something special from a small crop and in a very hot year. He also said that they released early and just now the wine is showing what is capable . Indeed this is echoed in our notes too from 90 in 2012 to 93-94 these days. Shy n the nose but not shy on the palate, energetic and bright with a good honey, sweet core of fruit. less biscuity or yeasty . Power and balance here. On the rating split us apart and we deliberated a lot on the rating with Andreas pushing for 94+ while Nicol did not like the sweetness on the palate and pushing for 92. 93 then..

Delicious, big shouldered and open, fleshy style of Dom Perignon. This drinks well now but it is not for people prefer a more focused style of champagne. Lemon peel, sea shells and tropical fruit. Lush pure fruit flavors caress the palate in a hedonistic style. I don’t think this will be as long lived as many Dom Perignons.

CHE92- it was difficult year for champagne - to warm weather. And Dom Perignon.... I like other vintages much more. Brioche, a lot of brioche, vanilla, sweet pears and a lot of sweetness. Not enough acidity. Verdict- choose another year.

Light gold color. Split bottle over 3.5 hours. I'm here to end any debate about the '03 Dom. So, someone told you that '03 was a weak vintage in Champagne...well Dom Perignon did not get the message. Make no mistake, this is an excellent Dom, powerful and poised. The nose is explosive, classic Dom, wonderfully toasty, nutty, brioche, earth, lemon and pear. The palate is full bodied yet lithe, autolytic, almond, almond cream, mineral, earth, lemon oil, layered and toasty. Drinking great now, this is continuing to get better as it ages. 94+pts.

Surprisingly good. Light gold, Fine bubbles. Initially a bit closed but really opened up after 30 mins. Lovely hazelnut, brioche nose. Lovely balance and drinking perfectly now. Liquid gold in a glass. Powerful ripe aromas that knock you down. Rich aromas with maturity. Nutty flavours and sunflower seeds, bakery, flowers, honey. Mouth filling bouquet. Full body Champagne maybe just a little lacking acidity.
Difficult hot vintage made this Dom Perignon stand out with its bold character.
Nice though somewhat simple in the nose with notes of spice, tart apple skin and lemon rind on the nose, upfront fruit on the attack that dissipates at the mid palate leaving a medium simple finish

Initially very saline and mineral on the nose, a big contrast to the quite generous, broad impressions on the palate where waxy fruit and toast dominates. Still fresh acidity though. Fine mousse and very good lenght, finishing with a perfume of lavender and roses. Not terribly complex. Still very young. Gradually, with time in the glass, it gets more nutty and richer on both nose and palate. A somewath odd wine, but much fun to try. I really do wonder where it's headed over time. Drank alongside the 2002 wich was clearly the better wine but also more mainstream and in a way less interesting.

Dom p 2003 is a big broad-shouldered wine. It doesn't seduce you as the 2000 with it's funky and fruity nose but this wine has a lot more "fuck you and your family" attitude. Geoffroy has added a lot more Pinot noir to the blend than usual which expresses itself very well in volumptousness.
This bad boy of a big bold, powerful champagne needs a lot time in the cellar to lose some of that excessive fat. I'll expect this vintage to become a legendary wine with similar character as 88 krug grande cuvee and 85 dom P. It sure will divide the tasters because of it's "I'm here, I'm wonky and filled with all the good and illegal stuff from the medicin cabinet". This Dom P 2003 is an usual champagne with loads of exotic fruit, citrus, smoke and iodine with a firm acidity to give it a nice structure.
This is a wine for those who likes a slap in the face during sex - and possess the patience and understanding of this wildness, which you know will reward you with softness and kindness in it's older days! This sure could be a legendary wine when it's been forgotten in the cellar for 20-30 years.

2003 MOET & CHANDON CUVEE DOM PERIGNON BRUT- somehow, I have missed this vintage for DP since release and not being that fond of 03`s, I was a bit skeptical when pouring this into my glass; surprise, surprise, it was wonderful; it had the typical spicy, toasty, ginger infused citrus notes along with bright acidity and was atypically powerful and highly energetic; once again, I marvelled over the consistency of the Grand Marques to produce high quality cuvees and this one now is on my must have list.

Drinking better and better, though I don't agree with the current CT suggested window of 2019-2040. No reason not to drink this right now. It's rich and creamy, beat decanted and served warmer than straight from the fridge. Great length. It's not 02 or 96 but this is a great, individual champagne.

Luis Turns 60 (St. Genevieve): As usual, this needed about 15 minutes in the glass to get going. There is a richness and a creamyness to the palate. Brioche and hazelnuts. The finish is lacking somewhat and ends on a bitter note. Overall, a great champagne but probably not the best Dom Perignon.

2003 Burgundy Grand Cru Dinner (Iggy's, Hilton Hotel, Singapore): Third time round, and impressions are quite consistent - markedly ripe and forward, but not a bad DP. Unusually enough, this smelt so much like a bottle of 2003 Krug Clos des Mesnil that we had alongside - sweet cream, yeast, ripe, almost tropical fruit notes, and a dash of floral rose water. A lovely nose that was a strange echo of the other champagne's. The palate, while pleasant, had nowhere near as much substance as the Krug's though. This was all sweet and airy and felt just a little soft, with expressive flavours of ice-cream soda, sweet longans and lychees, and plenty of floral notes. Unusually ripe and forward, but not bad. There was a little touch of minerality at the end, all dresssed in quiet acidity and a gentle mousse. A good Champagne and a decent drink, but not one I would go out and hunt out - I think this will fade drastically in the long-term compared with the fabulous 2002 and 2004 vintages.

Sabred on Christmas Eve. Beautiful expression of what people love about Dom. Small bubbles, dry but not off putting. First sense is how crisp it is, not cloying, light, expressive hints of brioche, orange peel. Delicious and ready to drink. Should have many more years of life and evolution.

Pale lemon-green color with a faint hint of straw, ample fine bubbles. Smoky, almost roasted, musky nose screams Dom Perignon. There is a bit of underlying citrus but this lacks tension and brightness. Lack of depth mid-palate, though quite vinous and a bit warm. Lingering heat underlines a certain lack of stuffing here. Still, this is balanced and very pleasant drinkng. At Hugo's with Jose.

Less impressive than a bottle I had a year or so ago. This came off as very primary, and a bit unbalanced, seeming to show the heat from that year. Fruit-forward, with yeasty chamomile, hazelnut and tart fruit on the nose. Tight, mineral and tart, with tiny effervescence and notes of lemon and hazelnut.

I'm one of few very few people who finds the 2003 vintage much more pleasurable than the 2004. Unlike the 2004, this is an extremely good and underrated vintage.
In my opinion, this is a wine that needs time to breath (at least 15 minutes) and benefits from being served at a slightly higher temperature than normal for champagne (probably close to 10 degrees Celsius). Time and temperature immeasurably improve this wine and highlight the flavours/complexity which can be obfuscated when chilled.
As for the wine itself, it has a very pleasing light gold colour. There are a number of very pleasing aromas on the nose including floral notes, apples, apricots, lemon zest, lemon peel, lemon curd, flaky pastry and barely perceptible hints of caramel. The palate was not only fresh and lively but textured and intense. It's a bold but elegant wine with ripe fruit and taut minerality. In the mouth, it's silky with the merest hint of creamy ripeness. The wine has well-judged acidity which never dominated proceedings. A very pleasing and long finish.
This wine may improve with ageing and if stored correctly, could be a 94 in 5 or so years' time.

I must not be in the norm. I expect a wine in this price range t be marvelous. Capture the senses. That did not happen. I recently opened a 2002 Bollimger Anne. The lightness was like being a feather carried in a warm breeze. After half the glass the nose was emphatic-no-beguiling. Yeast and dough ( yes I am a fan of that thus the accolades) were easily defined in there own wonderful way. Not subtle but also not overt-just perfect. I guess I will get a bottle or two of Dom for guests but also open other champagnes hoping I will show the way and Don is not part of my cellar. I fully realize some vintages are great- but that to me seems few and far in between. To be blunt-you are paying for the wine and scores given by the impressive name and bottle. Of course each palate is different and I could be all wet. Dave

Third time having this wine and it way more evolved the prior versions I had. Creamy nougat and custard on the nose. Fully bodied in the mouth. I'm not sure this wine was stored properly but if it was, these should be consumed sooner rather than later.

Had this next to the 05 Dom and this one was much better. Light gold color and some citrus bread stuff happening. Creamy texture and vibrant bubbles. This one is right there and enjoyable.

Maybe not my day, but this dom is ok but not impressive. Luckily it is a present. Have also a 2006 which i hope is better. My favourite champagne todate is femme 2000 by duval leroy.
My first experience with Dom. It was delicious, but in this vintage I didn't find it spectacular. Lots of lime and toasted bread, medium bodied, tight bubbles, crisp finish.

Cheval Blanc Vertical Tasting (Old Swiss House, Lucerne, Switzerland): Golden color. Nose shows richness, ripe apples, apricots and caramel. Unfortunately the wine is lacking depth, complexity and lenght. Quite one dimensional. Drank this wine at least 10 times in the past two years and it never touched me. Despite the fact that it is ok for a difficult vintage, I do not think this deserves the DP label.

light but flavorful, incredible structure and bubbles. Ready to drink, didnt suffer from the strong woody taste and the sometimes overbearing flavors of lemon. Loved this wine. it was the perfect compliment to Osetra, blinis, creme fresh and minced spanish (purple) onions (after soaked in water for thirty minutes) for our pre Christmas family morning.

Annual Tasting Group Holiday Party (Il Foro, Mpls, MN): Light-medium golden color. Drank 2 glasses over an hour. Fantastic stuff. I was fortunate enough to have both the '04 and then the '03 this week and they were both splendid. The '03 is really hitting its stride now, getting better every time I have it. The similarities though are quite striking. I love the toast and biscuit, hints of smoke, roasted nuts, pear, floral, lemon, sea foam, elegant and intense on both the nose and palate. A wonderfully fine expansive bead. Definitely one of my WOTN's. 94+pts.

From magnum and this wine has now evolved pretty nicely and is really a great surprise vs how it tasted on release . Very focused ,mineral with good depth and complexity, young but well with its drinking window however this has a long and glorious life ahead of it. For the moment it is a citrus and mineral story but with age and evolution this will be very interesting to follow. 93 for now

I liked this more than other 2003 vintage champagnes that I have had over the last year. Not as great as the 2004 but certainly holds its own. This needs air though. Quite tight upon opening (it still could use more time in the cellar). Compared to other vintages of Dom that I have had, this vintage is much more powerful than the finesse that I have grown accustomed to from Dom. On the nose there is lemon, maybe some fig, peach, and brioche. The palate has great minerality, some lemon pith, citrus components, tart apple, citrus, along with good acidity. This is a full-bodied, powerful, and rich wine with a pretty long finish.

Love this, I know that many does not agree, but I feel the has closed down and will come back in 3-5 years, so much in this wine, rich power, with probally hights some of the acidity and makes it a bit heavy now .... but it will be a star ! almost a dusin notes over the past 3 years. Drink 2018-2028

Nose was tightly closed at first. Opened to chalky notes, white flowers, and background yeast and caramel. Seemed quite mineral driven on the palate on this occasion. Overall an even-keeled performance. 92+

Light yellow in color with lovely bubbles. It has good intensity with balance acidity. Yeast, biscuits with zest, apple, citrus, some bitterness behind, almond and butter. Better than three years before and it can drink now.

Restraint nose and on the palate. A bit boring with a structure and finish that is not really compelling yet. I suppose it´s still closed and baby murder at this time. Wait at least until end of 2018.

Too early to drink now. Needed at least 2h to start shining but still came across as closed. Wait at least 3 to 5 years... The 2002 was much more accesible...

This is fun. Subtle and smooth. Interesting nose, a bit of old garage but I love that. Palate is almond, popcorn, vanilla. Clean finish but the vanilla lingers and almost turns to butter caramel. Yeah I'll hang out with this.

Light yellow color in the glass, clear looking throughout with medium, steady beading. Nose of toast, hazelnut and yellow pears. Flavors of yellow pears, lemon and yellow apples. Medium to bright acidity, full bodied. Drink or hold.

Throwndown in Madtown; 8/27/2015-8/29/2015 (Madison, WI): This is losing steam fast or I am having another palate shift in Champagne preferences. This had the same apple/pear/citrus profile of two years ago but clearly lacks some cut. Still really good stuff, but I would be drinking these in the next few years.

Very well made wine just fails to meet expectations, notes, of nut, biscuits, citrus and tart Apple, palate has nice freshness to it at the start but becomes quite tight and austere on the mid palate through the finish. Yet to meet an 03 champagne (including Kruger) that was worth declaring a vintage for

So I was a little split here. Had been saving the bottle for >1 year and had something to celebrate. On the one hand, it's unmistakably DP, that flinty nose, with a hint of toastiness on the finish. On the other hand, I've had more palate complexity at a far lesser price. Two dimensional at best whereas other vintages brough more to the playing field. Having said that, it's otherwise hard to fault. I agree with everyone's comments about green apple and caramel, but not a whole lot else. Finishes smooth and long. I'll happily replace the bottle with another from an alternative vintage.

Second time I tried this. Some lemon, citrus fruit, fresh, but no body, almost flat. All in all very disappointing. With air even more. This was ranked last in a series of 5 bottles we drank tonight. I am seldom a friend of DP, but this 2003 is definitely not worth the money. This should not be a vintage champagne.
I really like this - much different than most Dom's i've consumed and its been a few. Much richer and not as lean and precise. I think the Dom peeps have it down to a since how to make it much the same. This year though, different. Richer fuller, grilled pineapple, green apple, citrus, not so harmonious - but again. I really like it in a rough way. Much heavier than the usual fare.

Notes of white flower, brioche, and crushed stone. Medium-bodied; good depth and grip, with impressive focus on the finish. Not up to the lofty standards of the 2002.

Belle couleur jaune paille claire à reflets verts.

Dujac dinner at Jade Palace. Light yellow, bright and vibrant. Tertiary bouquet, lots of lemon, green apples, white peaches. This was more of an agreeable wine rather than something to knock your socks off. Palate had nice acidity, lots of freshness and light yellow fruit. The structure and intensity was somewhat missing, perhaps due to its young age or the vintage which wasnt spectacular for Dom. Good start to the main event.

My first DP. Fine tiny bubbles and despite the vintage very elegant and very linear. Mix of elderflower and other white flowers, green apples, citrus. had expected bit more "umf" and a longer finish - but maybe I drank this too early?!
My fears about how this vintage would perform were unnecessary. Yeasty chamomile, hazelnut and tart fruit on the nose. A mouthfeel I craved, such an enticing and seamless texture, tight, mineral and tart, with tiny effervescence and notes of lemon and hazelnut. Powerful stuff, no evident babyfat.

We had this a couple of years back and all commented on the maturity it gained in just that short span. Picked more of a golden color, a bit smoother with toned down acidity. Not much toast to it but the citrus was there and it had a great finish. I'd love to try this again in a couple more years.

A bit flat out out of the bottle, opened up with a little air time. A rounder style Dom, the profile is macerated lemon with significant toast and yeast elements. Solid, but not hitting the highs.

A very good Dom and I'm surprised given how hot the year was. The wine is crisp and not flabby in any way nor sweeter than usual. Some classic green apple and citrus showing the way early as is typical with the eventual nuttiness still years away.

Dinner with Fellow Counsel (Sreeni's Place): Ever so slightly better than the last bottle I had in March, this was very good and enjoyable without quite showing any promise that it will ever be a truly great Champagne. The nose was extra creamy, especially coming after the more subtle, floral 2004, with buttery brioche shades wafting over notes of white fruit, citrus peel and earthy, mineral accents. As in keeping with my notes on the last bottle, the palate had an unusually rich ripeness for a Dom Perignon, showing a depth of creamy white fruit and lemon zest notes wrapped in a consistent robe of fine mousse and decent, if not exactly zippy acidity. While I had felt that this was a bit coarser than normal on the last bottle, it seemed just fine this time round. The greater weight and forward yumminess of the wine did make it feel a little less than sleek, but this was still a classy Champagne. Good finish too, long, powerful and very satisfying. Good stuff, drinking pretty well early on in its life. It will be interesting to see where this goes from here.

I was so much more impressed with tonight's btl than a prior btl this spring that I'm not completely sure it was as great as it seemed tonight. That said, I had a nice pour and as much as I doubted this wine I kept thinking how much I now loved it. But its an 03, right! There are latent elements of oxidation but even still I really like this for early drinking. Much more depth than the previous btl. This is a much bigger, more masculine and, currently, more fully realized wine than the Cedric Bouchard I bought along tonight. This has less upside than my Cedric Bouchard. I may buy one of these again but wish it wasn't $130 plus. A reduced bargain price for it being '03 would be more appealing. I wouldn't buy many of these but I may go for one more. Tonight's btl was very very good.

Champagne & Sushi (Masu, Mpls, MN): medium gold color. Drank 1 glass over 40 minutes. The best bottle to date and the additional bottle time shows. this has always been good, but it has taken on more depth and nuance already. Great nose; intense nose, with earthiness, nutty, almond, wow, mineral, citrus. The palate has excellent energy and weight, but not heavy, toast, citrus, clearly defined and long and caressing on the finish. Love it, my WOTN.

Excellent. At a home tasting of a dozen different fizzes. Quite surprisingly rich and fuller-bodied than the Comte Taittinger alongside it, which I suppose is not surprising given that Comte is chardonnay only. Voted by all, along with the Comte, as the best of the night (just as well given the price)

This bottle didn't live up to my memory of Dom. The acidity was very high and more citrus than the almond and yeasty flavors I remembered last time. I prefer vintage piper 02 or 04 to this wine. My tasting, partner, however liked it quite a bit so I am adjusting the score up a notch.

Not a proper TN as this was consumed at a seaside club. What is interesting at this stage is that is definitely developing and becoming more like a DP, unlike ealier tastings where it felt totally different. Jury is out if this is going to be a great DP but seems to have taken the right turn.

I think it is a DP unworthy. Lacks a bit of everything, depth, complexity. Although being still very young and acidic/citric I don't think time will add very much to it. Similar to a 2000.

Beautiful tiny bubbles and a nice minerality.A bit ripe on the nose. Not sure I'd guess this as DOM blind. Lacking the clear distinction that you expect from an elite cuvee like DP. Or, was it the thick, more narrow, restaurant stemware at Vics hampering the wine's chance to truly shine? But, at $126 off the list on a perfect 75 degree late MN spring day overlooking the river how could we pass it up. Fun to live like a millionaire once in a while. I see the average CT price paid was $154 so $126 from a restaurant ain't bad, at all. Next time I'm bringing my own stemware.

Champagne: Deg. fine/2011. Timidissimo, nocciola tostata, polvere da sparo, scorza di limone, classicissimo e inconfondibile. In bocca manca un po' di incisività. Chiude su note di frutta matura e c'è meno sapidità di quella che ti aspetti.

Pale straw color, fresh yellow fruit, a full and fine mousse and a very long finish with a spicy zing to it. Not the sort of complexity and refinement that I have experienced in other DP vintages though. Even now, at 11 years, very youthful and crisp. It might expand a little more with age.
Dom Pérignon is a top producer of course, but this vintage doesn't justify the pricetag IMO.

Keeping it simple here. Blind, if you're an expert, you would almost never guess it's Dom. You may not even guess it's vintage authentic Champagne. But it's crisp and clean and well made and enjoyable, if a bit simplistic and rather atypical vintage Dom. Who knows what age brings to this?

Didn't blow me away (albet I acknowledge the less than ideal vintage and possible infanticide).
From the bottle, the initial bubbles in the glass erupted like a volcano. After 5 minutes or so these settle down to tiny bubbles, before finally becoming quite flat with slow bubbles.
For the price ($150) I was expecting fireworks, and even though a nice, smooth, refreshing wine, this didn't knock me out.
My recommendation would be to wait another 4-5 years or pick up a bottle from 02 or 04.

Yellow colour with a stream of extremely fine bubbles. The nose shows fresh grass mixed with herbs, minerals and Brazil nuts. The palate is youthful with herbs and liquorice and a nice long lime peel finish.
This vintage from DP shows very odd flavours on the nose, and the palate is a bit pale compared to other vintages. I really wonder where this vintage will take us.

I've now had this wine on at least 3 different occasions and each time it stands out as an awful vintage for Dom. The fruit is overripe and the finish, while concentrated and complex, just doesn't taste very good. Right when I'm expecting the usual DP finish, it just thins out and tastes astringent and sickly sweet. No thanks and anyone who thinks this is going to age well is kidding themselves.

2am in the morning, halfway into a marathon karaoke session, with lots of low quality hard liquor floating around, is not quite the most ideal situation to enjoy a bottle of Dom. The tiny flutes did not help either, so this note should be taken with quite a large pinch of salt. Nevertheless, from what I drank, I thought this was a decently good Champagne. Not quite up to the standards of better recent vintages of DP (say 2000 or 2002), but it still had a good bit more quality on its than a run-of-the-mill vintage Champagne. The nose was still simple and primary, but pleasant enough, with yeasty inflections floating over sweet apples and a touch of berries, and then some floral accents on the side. The palate was quite good. While still primary, like the nose, it showed a good sense of depth and power, with perhaps a touch more ripeness in its apple and grapefruit notes than I would normally associate with a DP. The bead also seemed a bit coarser than normal, but that said, the wine also retain a typical feminine elegance and poise, with a nice balance and feel to it. It ended in a decent finish, with a slightly toasty, nutty tone as it drifted through the backpalate. I do not think that this will grow-up to be the longest lasting or most complex DP. but it certainly is good, and actually very impressive if you consider it in the context of DP's huge production and the challenging vintage.

Drunk on New Years Eve with oysters and family. Definitely missing some of the nerve and cut of cooler vintages, but hey, if you need to drink some Dom while waiting for the rest of your Dom to mature, this fits the bill. As I doubt it'll go downhill quickly, I'll experiment with the other bottles (5, 10 years) just for fun. I'm surprised not to hear more about the skunky, wheaty note that seemed prevalent in both bottles I have tasted from recently.

Drank for New Year's Eve. Citrusy nose with some toast/brioche there. Lovely little bubbles, good minerality, a slight, but pleasant toasty quality and good length. Fairly crisp acidity with a definite citrusy feel to the wine overall. Even though it's not a particularly complex wine, it was very enjoyable and is drinking wonderfully right now.

Intriguing aroma of lemon and (very mild) skunk. Rich flavors of lemon mousse, minerals and others. Vanilla, hazelnut, almond finish. I won't argue that this is a great QPR, but DP is still a great champagne. Beautifully subtle and complex, with nuanced and mutable flavors. And this is reportedly an off vintage.

Gorgeous bubbles in the glass. Vigorous and very fine. The nose shows yeasty, funky lemon curd, touches of brioche toast. Fine dose of minerals and not very toasty as a whole. Palate is medium bodied. Again, the bubbles are elegant and very fresh. More lemon baked goods, apricot and peach fuzz (there was a textural element), buttered bread, yellow daffodils and a bit of metallic play. Finish is moderately complex and again shows a bit of a mineral note as well as some austerity on the back end. An extremely enjoyable bottle and a generous gift. Cheers and Happy New Year!

Beauitful and pretty explosive nose of bergamot, citrus, honey and some yeast/brioche kind of notes typical for vintage champagne. On the palate, there are similar notes again. It's full-bodied and dense, with creamy and medium, very elegant mousse. Long finish. It's pretty different from most of the DP I have had in the past. There is an opulence to it, that was probably caused by the very unusual climate in that vintage. Nevertheless, it has enough acidity to be fresh and it leaves an overall impression of class and elegance, despite of its extroverted personality. I like it a lot!

Seeing stars at the Abbey in Hautvillers, just outside Epernay (Abbey de Hautvillers, near Epernay): Better than I had expected. Served next to the 2004, it was noticeably darker. But not oxidized, stressed Dom Perignon oenologist Vincent Chaperon. Before the first fermentation, the juice as it came off the press had been oxidized for a few hours, so as to make it more resistant to oxidation once it was fermented, Chaperon explained. Hence the darker color. He explained that taking such an exceptional measure before fermentation strengthened the wine against oxidation.
So this 2003 gave off more freshness than I thought it would have, as many commentators have been scratching their heads, asking why Dom Pérignon would bother to make Champagne from the torrid 2003 vintage. But the wine’s rich, yellow fruit aspect contributed to a pleasing mid palate, with subtle power due to the phenolic ripeness achieved. Atypically, it has a higher proportion of Pinot Noir (62%), given the greater success of that grape in that vintage.

Dinner at Tango Sur (Chicago, IL): Ripe fruit notes on the nose, definitely displaying the ripeness of the vintage. Served moderately cold, but quite sweet on the palate. On the feminine side, especially for a relatively ripe champagne. Nice acidic vein, though I stand by my earlier belief that this won't age too well (hard to see what secondary characteristics will develop).

Lightness, finesse, elegance, bread, and a nice mousse and bubbles, but far from extraordinary. And where are the minerals? Had the 2004 Moet Chandon brut vintage together with the Dom Perignon 2003 and I must say that the DP 2003 is too much alike the MC 2004. Surely the difference should be greater. Also had the DP 2004 the other week and the 2004 was substantially better. My conclusion is that 2003 is not representative.

Light yellow color. Fine never ending streams of bubbles. Nice mousse. On the nose, wet mountain, slate, opening up later to slight candied ginger. I drank this in two sessions first, right after opening and very chilled. Second, room temp about 3-4 hours later. First tasting was tight and hidden. Wet stone, huge minerality, key lime and lime zest dominated, almost bitter. Second tasting opened up some. Still huge minerality, some yellow fruits, ginger. Finish was quite short on the first tasting but lasted and eternity once it opened up. Too bad what lasted was bitterness, almost grapefruit pith.
Overall, a very interesting and different Champagne. Not my style though. I am missing that cream and toastiness. I would maybe try again in 10+years to see how it has developed but for now I will stick to different vintages.

Had a glass of this by surprise at work. Was surprised it was 03.
This really won me over. There's a ton of lime zest on the nose it's really fresh and vibrant. The palate is very balanced between acidity and yeasty notes. What a treat! I will happily pick this up should I find it in a store.

Delightful. A young but rich and, for DP, creamy palate. Less pronounced effervescent sense, not yet bursting with citrus flavors, acid balance muted, and too young to demonstrate toasty, burnt sugar flavors it will develop in 10 years.

Took to a dinner party, and everyone loved it. I know it's too young, but just wanted to try the '03. It is a nice champagne now, but if given another 5-8 years can evolve into something spectacular. Will not be drinking this any time soon, but for $90, will definitely stock up on some.
Pale straw in color with an aroma of warm toast. Nice complexity nd good balance. Tasted side by sde against Mumm DVX of same vintage. I Ed them both but preferred the DVX over the Dom.

Anyone who thinks that 2003 didn't make fine champagne should try this. Lovely mousse, delicious citrus fruit. Broad flavored but never heavy. Very good.

Based on the polarity of notes on this wine as seen on WineBerserkers, I backed away from purchasing more. Found the perfect occasion last night to open it, and was very, very pleasantly surprised. While not typical of Dom Perignon, this is a positive for me, as many vintages don't truly fit my style preferences until they have a good amount of age on them. While many say this is a simple wine, I disagree, as I found it to be quite complex. Firstly, there are more tiny bubbles in this Champagne than any I can recall tasting, ever. When you first taste the wine, it seems like it might be a bit lush or heavy - or perhaps that's just prejudging it based on the vintage - but the millions of bubbles give it a very light mouthfeel, which is probably good, in this case. Still, however, the finish is where a ripe Champagne would give itself away, and the finish on this is super dry - very mineral-driven, and I commented to Jen that it almost finished like a sparkling water, it was so clean and dry, and mineral-packed.
Nothing really made sense, I guess, in how this wine showed, but it was extremely enjoyable, and kept me guessing. Yes, it has a significant dose of flint (or some say sulfur) but not too much for our tastes, and it was so well made considering the struggles that they must have had with the fruit that it still easily passes for a luxury cuvee in my mind, and while I can see why many don't like it, I also see why there is polarity - you either like it or you do not, there's little to no middle ground. I wish I had kept my original order and had another bottle or two waiting.

Over the top champagne in a very uncharacteristic way for DP, not the understated beauty you would expect but the heat of the 2003 vintage tells you all you need to know... nonetheless, this is a good champagne that was well received.

EK 148 AMS -> DXB 1st Class (A380): Pale-medium lemon, gazzilion of point sources enamating mm-sized bubbles (probably due to reduced cabin air pressure). Medium aromas of bakery, wet cardboard, Dry, medium acidity, medium body and alcohol. Medium flavours of ripe pear, white fruits, honey, mineral and herb notes. Foamy, almost virulent mousse so typical of MC, elegant creamy texture. Medium finish, with nice juxtaposition of fruit and minerality, vivacious.

An huge an massive wine, slightly too heavy for my palate. However, it does not suffer very much from the lack of acidity (very strange). A monolithic Champagne that was better suited to my palate in 2002. Still, very interesting to try a 2003.

mineraler, toast, autolyse og melne epler - pluss en litt skjemmende tone av våt ull på duft. Fokusert, rik og tung frukt på smak, mangler syresnert. Alltid godt med DP, men ingen stor champagne.

From a micropour. A very rich, fruity champagne. Starts with a dense sea of fine bubbles. It's rather full bodied with soft fruit flavours dominating. Acidity and leesy/oaky flavours are low. Not what I was expecting. Good, not great. Can't imagine it cellaring well.

A very opulent Dom Perignon with lots of ripe tropical fruits, citrus, toast, almonds and marshmallows. Big, intense and long on the palate with moderate acidity. Quite mature and very enjoyable on its own. A hedonistic wine. In my opinion this is completely ready to drink and I doubt it will improve much over time.

Bought for 10th anniversary and checked in bag to the Turks & Caicos. Very tight and steely on opening. Opened up after 1/2 hr or so, but still seemed tight. Light citrus, white peach, white nut and quinine. Refreshing. No yeast at all. A bit linear. Overall disappointed given the price, but a nice glass of champagne nonetheless.

This really is an ususual Dom Perignon. It is ripe, rich, and round, and seems to be lacking a bit of acidity and much of the minerality that I usually find in other vintages of this wine. It is pleasant, but without nuance or subtlety at this point. Drinking it this young, I actually prefer this to more classic vintages such as 2002, but I don't think this will age and improve for nearly as long as such vintages. 2000 DP had some similarities to an extent, but this is much more extreme, and I am really surprised that they decided to release a 2003 as it is so contradictory to what I perceive as the house style. A forward DP, but not a very refined one. very good. I do like this wine, but there's a lot of Champagne that is just as good or better for much less money.

Hate to be the grinch here but this super fine bubbles, almost frothy lemony confection was really nice. Maybe $50 or even $60 nice. Ok, ok, it comes in a killer box that surely MUST make it taste better so $70 nice. But $125 on sale/discount?! OUCH, not nice.
This isn't so much a bottle of champagne as a would be life style statement. For that its priceless! Bring me a case at whatever the cost - just put it in the back of my Rolls James.......
Tried this in a regular champagne flute, then a Riedel oaked chardonnay glass. Almost different wines. Could be a regular champagne in the flute but in the Riedel it was like an excellent 1er Cru Puligny. Beautiful oak, smoky, flinty, buttery, nutty (almond?), toasty. Wonderful champagne. Still getting flashbacks of it the following day!

The earliest harvest since 1822. Rich, ripe and creamy style, seamless as ever but softer and more fluffy than usual and without the precision, energy and cut of the best vintages. Very attractive however, easy, forward, stylish and with lovely ripe fruit; it is amazing how Richard Geoffroy managed to create such a delicious DP in this challenging vintage. Drink up though; not for keeping.

A great bubbly with a slight light-green hue. Rich nose with hints of pear. Acidic with an initially course texture that fades into smooth apple. It has a medium finish that lingers for a bit.
It was universally praised at a reception among people who are selective drinkers.

Dom Perignon dinner at L2O (Chicago, IL): Ripe! I don't think this will age too well -- it was a little disjointed on the palate with a bit of air. However, this still had good acidity to hold things in check.

Had some celebrating to do this weekend so... - Saturday night meeting some friends for pre-cinema dinner we tried a bottle of the 03 DP. My first time with it. Obviously much lighter colour and more vigorous mousse than the 90 krug from the night before. Plenty of chalky minerality along with quite a full on, heady palate with a much darker fruit profile than I'm used to with young DP. Quite showy already but not as wild as I had feared. Suspect that this will age well but I'm not as sure as with the 02.

In general I am wary of whites and bubblies from 2003, but this was offered as a gift, so who am I to refuse? Plus, despite its massive production, DP is still a pretty freakin' good Champagne. And frankly, I was curious to see what the vintage's effect on this wine would be. Well, I have to say, I was not disappointed. Right from the get-go this was gorgeous, though you could tell the year's weather had marked it. The nose and palate were in harmony, what you smelled was what you got in the mouth. Relatively fat up-front, with surprisingly (for its age) advanced notes of mushrooms, cafe au lait, yeast, nuts, brioche and rich lemony accents, the wine trailed off quickly to a bright acidic finish that went on and on and on. I'd say if I had to visualize it that it had a tear-drop shape, as opposed to the more straight line (I dare not say linear, as DP is never linear to me, as compared to more steely Champagnes) I get from this usually.
Still, very enjoyable, especially as it was a touching gift in memory of my Dad's passing 15 years prior.

Generously provided by our host (K.A.) at a walk-around wine and food party, this bubbly was enjoyed from perhaps the most beautiful tall, fluted glass I have ever seen. It is straw-colored and sports a very active, tiny bead. The nose shows relatively ripe aromas of pear, peach, toasted bread and honey. The wine is medium-bodied and somewhat round for Champagne, with a creamy mouth texture and flavors mirroring the nose. The middle is solid and the finish is medium-to-long. An enjoyable, albeit atypical Dom. In a blind tasting, this could be confused with a high-end New World offering, likely an expression of the unusual vintage. Drink now-12/22.

After tasting the Dom Pérignon Oenothèque I came back to this vintage and was able to see the thought process they were looking for in this vintage. The vibrant color and minerality of this vintage really stood out. Not as creamy as some have talked about in the past but so far my favorite vintage in quite some time.

Eye: light bright gold color, active bubbles. Nose: floral, candied pineapple, licorice, yeast, aromatics. Palate: white fruit, mineral, slightly acidic at first but softened after 30 min, very nice structure, full body, long finish. Great with caviar and lobster, and practically everything else we tasted with it.

This has always had a high standard and this bottle did not disappoint. The pale yellow colored drink was lovely from the get go. It has a nose of apple and taste of apple citrus with hints of lemon and a tiny bit of butter. There is a refreshing crisp taste that is very tasty and approachable.

Champagne tasting (San Francisco Wine Trading Company): More aromatic than the others in the tasting. Some early secondary notes, almondy, yeasty, peach, chalky; great bubbles, slightly bitter, rounded; medium finish. The bitterness on the palate bothers me a bit. 91-92

Misc Tasting: Complex and intense nose with lemon-juice, white flowers and sweet peaches. Sweet peaches are dominant on the palate with a hint of lemon. Some freshness but there is certainly a lot of fruit sweetness. Overall a wine I really liked but it was really difficult to guess this wine as it is very not a "normal" Dom P. Packed with flavors and lots of edges!

Not sure how many producers declared a vintage in '03, but this does not disappoint. May not pack in the stuffing like '00. Definitely richer with a more obsious oak treatment than '02. Still very tasty and drinks like a tete de cuvee. I can see this at its best as a near-term drinker.

I don't get the chance to taste much high end champagne so I don't have a ton of personal knowledge on which to base this note.
That being said, this was a very crisp and clean drink. Had a really nice nose with a very enjoyable and smooth finish. A few in the group remarked that they felt like drinking this all night and skipping the Bordeaux that was yet to come.
All in all a treat for everyone.

Leo Turns 60! (It's Greek To Me): Pleasing nose of clean, fresh fruit with some mineral notes. Great mousse. Clean, precise and compact on the palate. Shows plenty of ripe fruit on the attack, with acidity building towards the long, satisfying finish. Drinking beautifully right now.

I had the opportunity to taste this twice each from two different bottles on this evening. The first bottle was quite disappointing for Dom. It certainly was good, but did not really stand out from many of thewellmade champagnes at this tasting. The most distinctive thing was the earthy quality on the nose: along with nuts, mineral, yeast. The palate was consistent, the finish was medium. Probably a 90-91pt score. The second bottle was completely different, good energy and some power on the nose and palate, earth, spice, acacia, citrus, apple, minerals, long finish. Much more impressive. 93+pts.

Icon Dinner (Chambar - Vancouver, BC): Quite ripe on the nose, showing a generous amount of toast, yeast and nuts, along with some tart lemon zest and green apple skins hiding behind. The richness follows through to the palate, displaying more of the dominant nuts and yeast up front, followed by fresh lemon juice and a hint of tart green apples. Long length finish ending on notes of yeast and lemon. A firm mousse and moderate acidity provides some punch to the ripe and round flavors on the palate. Much debate has been made regarding the age-ability and quality of the 2003, and it will be interesting to follow this over the years. While lacking the precision and focus compared to other young DP's I have tasted, this was still very enjoyable in an unorthodox style. Very good.

Dom Pérignon Masterclass with Richard Geoffroy at Decanter Fine Wine Experience (Landmark Hotel, London): Appearance: bright yellow, with a hint of gold. (Slightly more yellow than 2002.) Nose: toasted and smokey notes, powerful with fruity notes, citrus and zest, red apples, some spice. Rather classical nose for a DomP. Palate: good concentration, mineral, baked apples, noticeably spicy, almost an impression of tannins, good acidity. Spicy and minerally aftertaste with the “tannin impression” remaining. Overall impression: foody, young, slightly odd on the palate, which was less typical for DomP than the nose. 92(+) p
This is a very good 2003, where the hot vintage is reflected in the foody palate but not in any lack of acidity or minerality. I’m sure that it will be a long-lived wine.

Dom Perignon Masterclass, with Richard Geoffroy (Decanter FWE, The Landmark hotel, London): The year of extremes not just heat, to quote Richard Geoffroy. The colour is light golden yellow, glossy and has very few bubbles. Mild nose, light floral, apple. Rich on the fruit, ripe fruit, mineral but lacks the precision/sharpness we usually associate with DP. Also has a really bitter edge to it that makes it difficult to enjoy at this stage and very short on the finish. A bit disappointing to be honest. 90

DOM PERIGNON tasting (Rotterdam, Netherlands): Spring frosts in early april, summer was the hottest for years. A early harvest and a ripe and healthy crop. Vintage is a bit similar like 1976. The DP 2003 was released in December 2011. On the nose, sweet, bright floral notes, on the palate rich, lush and sweet, there is no hard edge here, the fruit is overwhelming, very less acidity or minerals, lacks a bit of the precision and focus, here the vintage shines through. Very accessible but not really my style ....

Side by side with the 02, I preferred this for its brighter acidity and lemony notes that I missed in the richer-but-heavier 02. Nice tiny and light mousse, this danced across the palate with little ballerina feet compared to the substantial brogues of the previous years' wine.

Bread, yeast, light citrus, apple and an interesting hint of cocoa create the nose. The wine lacks the lift and minerality found in some of the more exalted years, but it makes up for it with concentration, density and lushness. Plus, it's already open, charming and fun to drink.

2012 - Old: The temperature is slightly on the low side, hence the nose is quite muted with some expression of sweet pear, peaches, green apple, yeast as well as mineral and honey core. More yellow fruits and saline note emerged when the temperature goes up, powerful and broad shoulder. Good but it is a bit fat which seems lacks a bit of the precision and focus. I was surprised how accessible was this 03 DP compared to the previous bottle which I drank in earlier this year. Powerful, rich, lush and sweet, there is no hard edge here. I believed the sweetness comes from the vintage as well as the dosage. I do hope the sweetness will be able to mellow down with time (for now it seems lack of the acidic backbone for the long term) so it will have better focus and delineation. I'm not complain though as this was drinking really well.

An accessible DP... Still acidic but has structure and lush, with a taste actually reminding me of lower-level white Burgundy. The 2003 is actually quite good, and potentially ageworthy... Although quite why anyone would buy this for a similar price to the 02 DP is rather beyond me. Do DP have a pricing policy???
I can't remember having a bad Dom. A little more lush version that many in the past I've had, does not need time in the bottle, ready to drink now! Hit all the normal notes of bisquit, honeysuckle and nouget. A very good finish. Very Tasty!

2012 - Mr. K birthday celebration (Chui Huay Lim (醉花林) club - TeoChew Cuisine): Alcohol :: TBA Opened for 8hrs. Bright medium golden. The aroma is quite bold and broad-shoulder, more Pinot? Very inviting though. Spicy, pepper, almond, sea breeze with peaches, lemon and red currant fruits. With time, a light dose of honey emerged. This medium-full bodied DP is bright and vibrant. I like the purity here. It was quite sweet at first, but when it sits in the glass, the balance between sweetness and acidity getting better and it was almost perfect after about 30mins in the glass. Flavor wise, complex citrus, tangerine, lemon peel as well as red currant fruits. Excellent intensity, though not big scale, this is deeply flavor with complex citrus, tangerine, lemon peel as well as red currant fruits. It turns a bit tighter at the end, with touch of spiciness and savory note lingered at the long finish. 91
Day-2 Almond, lemon, grape fruits, earth, gun powder, very expressive and focus. Quite creamy with almond, hazelnut and lemon flavors dominated the palate. It flows smoothly to the mid palate along with complex, saline minerality. Good mid palate depth and structure, with almost crisp acidity for the lift. The finished is long and lingering with mineral and lemon peel bitterness. Everything seems great here, however, there was this light alcohol heat also can be detected at the very end which took away some finesse and purity. 89

Unmistakingly DP, good minerality. The more than usual PN part (60%) gives at this young stage a slightly bitter aftertaste. Otherwise good concentration and acidity for ageing.

Pale white gold colour, very strong stream of bubbles; Lovely nose - delicately smoky nuanced toasty notes, slightly reductive and lemony. Fruit is quite reticent at this stage; lovely entry on the palate, slightly sweet creamy lemon and blossom on the finish. No sign of heat here despite the vintage. Beautifully balanced and focused - its not a fanfare at this stage but a real lesson in elegance and restraint and has plenty in reserve so should give in time. Exceptional.

Tasting note:
This was slightly corked unfortunately.

Went well with food too.

we thought that it would last longer in mouth (lack of acidity..thus the 2029 horizon in the drink dates seems far fetched) but overall it's ample, elegant

Indeed this is echoed in our notes too from 90 in 2012 to 93-94 these days.

Nice though somewhat simple in the nose with notes of spice, tart apple skin and lemon rind on the nose, upfront fruit on the attack that dissipates at the mid palate leaving a medium simple finish

Denna flaska inte på prestigenivå dessvärre. Salt som en Muscadet och nästan kladdig mousse. Behållningen var hur funky den var. I skuggan av eleganta 2002 som provades parallellt.

Consistent small bubbles...classic Dom...Creamy pear dominates the palate, with hints of toast, citrus and spice....excellent Champagne, but not as good as some other vintages...perhaps a little more age would help some. Nevertheless, you can never go wrong with Dom!

Dave

Belle couleur jaune paille claire à reflets verts.

dock lysande champagne.

This was delightfully nutty with almonds and walnut mixed with distinct earth and minerality, followed by more subtle green orchard fruits. The palate had very nice depth and good acids with consistent notes from the nose. I found this nicely complex and refreshingly distinct. 93+pts.

CT Offline VI--San Antonio Edition (San Antonio, TX): Much more yeasty than either the 2000 or the 2002. Yeasty, very dry, but a little buttery / oaky. More notes of Lychee than either the 2000 or the 2002. Muted, with even a little hint of white pepper on the very end of the palate. Still a great wine, but my least favorite out of the lineup of '00, '02, and '03. Just doesn't seem quite as refined as the others.

On the palate rich and full more similar to the apple/pear dominant 2000 than the citrus dominant 2002. However, this has much more cut and verve than the 2000. Really stellar.

(Slightly more yellow than 2002.)
Nose: toasted and smokey notes, powerful with fruity notes, citrus and zest, red apples, some spice.

Quite a treat after the 93` DP, this really shined; beautifully balanced, great acidity, lemon-lime with a touch of salt and pepper; it just got better and better to the delight of all and especially me.

Lovely nose of toast, apple core and a slight hazelnut scent. Super young on the palate, a wall of acidity appears right off the bat. This is going to require further cellaring to show off the beauty that's hidden behind the acid.
SS 91+pts.

Okay, it's mostly worth the hype, if somewhat overpriced. I'd probably let it go for another 4-5 years at least (if I bought another bottle).

2012 K&L Annual Champagne Event (K&L San Francisco Store): Dom is never my favorite champagne but this was big and intense and full of promise on the nose, lots of power for a young Dom with lovely floral hints and the richness of pinot noir which really made you want to drink it and forget tasting! Tasted three times that day, very interesting!!

Another Washington Extravaganza (Obelisk, Washington, DC): Medium yellow. Some toast and lemon. Medium weight, much less palate impression than the Selosse. Straightforward, a little yeast. Very good but unexciting compared to what preceded it. On the other hand, well structured without stigmata of overripeness.

Very nice bottle with lots to look forward to. Lemon zest, brioche and a bight yellow tinged with green color. Very lush style - hedonistic. Good acidity to clean the pallet. This is great but I'm glad I still have some 02 Dom left.

Very Tasty!

I am very impressed with this wine, it delivers a superb champagne expericence. Much more open and avaliable than 2002!
Excellent coffee notes, toffe, lemon, minerals...the list goes on! Perfect drink, still young of course but, hey, what fun!
You sense that there is a lot of complexity and potenial in this one! Looking forward to try a long the 2002 in 10-20 years. Today 2003 is more fun than 2002. Stock up!

Fat, rich, but with good clarity even in its youth. Finish a bit coarse and not integrated at this stage, though I imagine it will with time. Clearly and expectedly riper than the '02, but charcteristic Dom and worth following. Nice.

Dom Perignon Dinner (NAHA - Chicago IL): Lush and fat flavors and aromas. Sweet Meyer lemon without the crisp precision I typically want and expect from Dom Perignon. Modest length. This will most likely be a very good vintage to drink young while waiting for the 2002s!

2012 - Mr. K birthday celebration (Chui Huay Lim (醉花林) club - TeoChew Cuisine): Alcohol :: TBA
Opened for 8hrs. 91
Day-2
Almond, lemon, grape fruits, earth, gun powder, very expressive and focus. 89

Full body, but not dense as some. Long aromatic tones - nice. Only medium balance and structure. Evident mousse - almost negative...
Difficult to place this wine.
