Dark garnet. Fragrant bouquet with a piercing note of cassis occasionally perceptible - particularly with little wine in the glass. Palate is a rich tapestry of cassis, violet, sandalwood and a note of alcoholic heat that creeps in on the long final. Tannins fully integrated, medium to big bodied and great vibrancy.
This is drinking very well - polished, complex and balanced. Great value wine with a rare degree of interest for this price point.

Bought a few of these recently because of the low price and tried one tonight- a very pleasant suprise - Happy Great Prayer Day!! 2007 Tenuta di Trinoro, Le Cupole - it’s finally a lovely long weekend and we are having roast pork with black rice salad! And wanted to try this 15 year old Tuscan wine. This is not normally our territory but as it turned out it went very well with dinner! Apparently this is a Bordeaux blend and based on Cabernet Franc. The colour is dee dark red with a slight bricking starting to appear on the rim. The nose has cherries, blackcurrants, plums, green bell peppers, tobacco, chocolate and cedar wood. In the mouth the wine is very soft, creamy and has loads of black cherries along with more chocolate and some tobacco. To us this is not far from being fully mature but if desired this could go for a while longer - a nice surprise!😎✌🏻#tenutaditrinoro #tenutaditrinorolecupole #lecupole #toscana #lecupole2007 #toscana2007 #2007

A blend of Cabernet Franc (40%), Merlot (30%), Cabernet Sauvignon (22%) and Petit Verdot (8%). Harvested in 54 separate pickings and vinifications, all grapes fully destemmed, fermented in 4000-liter stainless steel tanks for 15 days, then aged for another 3 days on the lees before racking the wine off the skins. MLF for 1/3 of the wine in the vats in contact with skins before racking and and for 2/3 in French oak barriques of 2nd, 3rd and 4th use. Aged for 8 months in French oak barriques of 2nd, 3rd and 4th use, followed by another 10 months in concrete tanks. Bottled unfiltered in March 2009. 13,5%. Total production 85,000 bottles. Drank from a magnum.
Dark, moderately translucent blood-red color. Juicy, clean and fruity nose with seductive, sweet-toned aromas of juicy blackcurrants and ripe red plums, some sweet red cherries, light autumnal notes of damp forest, a little bit of blueberry, a hint of pipe tobacco and a touch of raw meat. The wine is juicy, ripe and quite dense on the palate with a rather full body and fruit-forward flavors of fresh dark plums, ripe blueberries and blackcurrants, some licorice root, light notes of tobacco, a woody hint of pencil shavings and an autumnal touch of leafy yet not herbaceous character. The overall feel is enjoyably savory, rather high in acidity and quite firm, thanks to the moderately grippy medium-plus tannins. The finish is long, juicy and gently grippy with flavors of ripe blueberries and cherries, some fresh forest fruits, light plummy tones, a little bit of graphite, a hint of pipe tobacco and a touch of meaty umami. The tannins make the wine end on a somewhat astringent yet not aggressive nor austere note.
A very lovely, pure and harmonious effort. Probably the best vintage of Le Cupole this side of the millennium. Although the wine is modeled after Bordeaux wines, the wine really doesn't feel like a classic Bordeaux. Fortunately it doesn't feel like a super-polished, extracted and markedly modern faux-Bordeaux or Super-Tuscan either. It is built more like an old school Brunello or Chianti Classico, but aromatically feels closer to Bordeaux than Tuscany. At least this magnum was in a very lovely shape and most likely will continue to improve for years more, although it is drinking wonderfully right now. I'm not usually a big fan of Super-Tuscan reds but this was really nice. Recommended.

Beautiful nose of thyme, sour cherry, autumn leaves and hints of funk. Delicious, medium/full bodied on the palate. Could easily go another 5 years, but it is drinking nicely now. Wish I had more bottles ...

Notes from 3rd day after opening. Inky dark garnet with some bricking. Dark plum fruit nose with a note of graphite. Round entry, slow build through cough drop black cherry sweetness into mid-palate of cassis etched onto a background of fine grained tannins. Acid and sweetness in the mix, with a touch of heat on the long final.
Overall a very polished package. Excellent with food or on its own, and at an interesting point where tertiary notes are asserting themselves. I think this easily has another 3 years, and quite likely 5. Fantastic value and an interesting producer.

3rd of 4. Another gorgeous bottle. Rich, but balanced. I love the Cab Franc influence here. Cassis and plum compote. Long finish. Almost 11 yo and going strong. Glad I have one left. Served blind, I would think this was $100.

C: Dark ruby, with no signs of age. N: Loads of dark and red fruit, leather, dusty cellar and bramble. Smells like a a freshly bottled wine, with loads of vibrant fruit. P: Wow, exuberant and young, I would peg this as a young BdM. P: Awkward upon opening, this blossomed with a short decant and got better over our lasagna dinner. Medium body, tannin and +acidity. F: Medium, but very well done. The cork was absolutely perfect and I am really starting to subscribe to the Garagiste provenance philosophy. CT states that this should have been drunk in 2015, but this wine has plenty of life. I'd definitely buy more. Easy 91+++
Another nice bottle. It is just a very nice bottle. There is a ton of great fruit. There is a lot of character. This is a fine bottle. I love the cool fruit, the rounded confident character. I got a few of these in the first round and loved it. The fruit pushed forward, and that was an asset, this time out there is a similar character, only more mature. This is great bottle of cool lean wine. The core of it is highly expressive, fruit forward, moderately acidic. This is a classy expression, I'm sorry I have so few left, yet very happy Rimmerman re-introduced this. Could it be better? Probably not. This is a bottle screaming with character. With truth and confident personality.

Decanted 1.5 hours. Dark garnet. Voluptuous bouquet showing plums, some spice. Palate is very similar - round entry filling out to all corners of the mouth with a great balance of dark fruits, cinnamon sandalwood spice, very finely etched oak and fine fine tannins. Acidity in very nice balance.
This is drinking very well now but would seem to have at least 3-5 years in front of it. I think this wine benefits from a longish decant.

Gorgeous nose of perfume, olive, dark fruit and chocolate. Ripe fruit, high acidity, med grip and tannins, some green notes provide the clue that this tuscan wine is bdx varietals and 40% cab franc at that. The 15.5% alcohol and fruit are balanced really well by high acidity and freshness. While this wine flirts with my limits for ripeness and oak it does so in a way that respects the place, varietals, and style which just exudes sexiness and class. I will keep Le Cupole on the buy list based on this latest showing.

Color is still totally opaque. Nose has menthol, mint and some tobacco. Touch of green bell pepper notes but very subtle. Palate shows charcoal tinged cool black fruits. Still some decent tannic structure. Well integrated acidity. Definitely no where near over the hill.

Dark garnet, full bodied Lots of terroir on the nose. Blackberry, raspberry, red licorice, slight oak Dry, medium finish. Soft tannins, nicely balanced, wet oak, berries and dark fruit, sour cherries
This was an excellent stand alone wine that is drinking perfectly

Popped and poured. Followed after 2 hours. Dark garnet, faint bricking. Fragrant bouquet of raspberry, tobacco, leather and sous-bois. Full bodied dark fruit attack that quickly ratchets up to an acidic tinged mid-palate flaunting dark cherry against some rather coarse tannins. Final is a bit muddled with some prickly heat and astringent corners sticking out.
Overall this feels a bit rough and would do better with food than as it was here on its own. I sense this could easily go another 5 years and probably needs at least two for some of the tannins to better integrate.

Another excellent showing, this time with a grilled t-bone. Medium weight, but nicely expressive, complex, with tar, licourice, brush, sour cherry fruit, bright cherry and red plummy fruit. Fresh and lively, with fine tannins and juicy cherry acidity. Very good. Excellent finish.

Deep, dark garnet in color. Fragrant, attractive and complex nose of dark fruit aromas of cherries, currants & berries with overtones of dusty, earthy, cigar box notes of cedar and tobacco, spices, some mint, cocoa and toasty oak undertones. Full bodied, with good concentration of well balanced, smooth textured, rich, ripe dark fruit flavors of sweet cherries, blueberries & plumy with dark cocoa, spices, herbs, minerals and some toasted oak. Lingering smooth finish. Drinks quite well at present but has the fruit and structure to continue further, but limited, development with additional aging. Very good QPR.

On the nose, I found ripe black cherries, mint, a hint of oak, dark chocolate and earthy dried leaves. On the palate, it was silky with weighty textures balanced by zesty acidity. Ripe black cherry, dark chocolate, bell pepper, and exotic spice filled the sense. The finish was dry but not overwhelmingly so, with a few more years, this wine should really be in it's sweet spot. For now it remains a slightly modern Tuscan wine with impeccable balance.

Decanted 1.5 hours. Dark garnet. Sweet plum bouquet with a faint note of alcohol. Round entry, somewhat viscous mouthfeel. Acidity prominent and a quick crescendo to a complex midpalate of cassis, stewed plum, prickly alcohol and a final marked by some drying tannin and more heat. Enjoyable but tonight I found this less balanced than other nights. I'm hoping a few more years to knit the various elements together will do my other bottles some good.

First of 5, this was delicious - drank a little cold - straight from the cellar - but with lots of dark juicy cherry fruit. Nice expressive nose, some cherry, tar, licourice, brush, but really sings on the palate, bright cherry fruit, balanced tannins and a long finish. Went very well with some chicken and mushroom risotto.

Decanted 1.5 hours served at 18C. Red purple. Deep plum, black fruit and oak bouquet. Expansive, suave entry developing quickly to full palate marriage of black fruits, some high note sangiovese acidity and freshness and a solid core of silky tannins. Nice balance here with freshness and warm depth.
Looking forward to following these over 4-6 years.

Another year in bottle didn't make a huge difference, except the greenness was less apparent. Not a bad bottle but nothing really distinctive sticks out except those slight cherry notes, which is kind of unusual in a cab franc and cab sauv based wine. My biggest complaint with these kinds of wines is usually that the Cab Sauv obliterates everything else. Here, it's more that it got lost in the muddle, but so did the more unusual grapes.

Slightly over- oaked for my palate (does any one know do they use American Oak or French?), but certainly achieves the smoothness desired by many. Nicely balanced otherwise, just a bit too sharp on the oak flavor profile for me. Great deal from Garagiste though!

Typical and lovely Cabernet nose with Cedar wood and subtle led pencil. Tonight the oak is a bit more forward compared to last tasting but there is plenty of red fruit left to compensate. There is no doubt the wine is well-integrated, but it is developing and it will for certain be interesting to follow over the next cople of years.

On first opening the nose shows notes of medium red berries, clove and dusty brambles. The palate is unusually dry, showing dry red berries and a tart cherry bark finish.
One hour later the nose has character of herbal spices, dusty brambles and dark berries. The palate is brooding with dark logan berries and a brambly dark tart spiced finish.
One day later the nose is featuring dusty raspberries, logan berries and a slight brambly funkiness. The palate is similar with juicy red berries, brambles and light cedar spices that trail off into a tart sweet cherry bark finish.

This bottle of wine really reminded me why Italian red wine can be so great, and has sparked a fire in me leading into winter. I love how this wine immediately said "Italian" to me on the nose; it's as though it shared something quintessentially Italian in common with the bitter orange and sweetness you can smell on a Barolo. Is it Slovenian or French oak? Something in elevage? At any rate, there's no mistaking it. After that, it's just a seamless, elegant red with no single element sticking out in disproportion. Perfect acid; perfect weight; perfect aromatic balance. I really am in the mood to drink oodles of this for winter, and sense I will bootlessly search out something comparable to this at the bargain $20 price paid.

The nose showed black cherries, cinnamon, mint, and dark chocolate with a distinct earthy component. On the palate, it was full and velvety with ample wieght, balanced by zesty acidity. Flavors of rich black cherry, prunes, dark chocolate and tobacco leaf filled out the palate. The finish was long and fresh. This wine truly wow'd me as its luxorious richness is so perfectly balanced, and kept fresh, by a combination of zesty acidity and fine tannin. It's drinking beautifully now, but should continue to improve for a number of years.

While my notes from May still generally hold, the notable exception is my perception of acidity levels. This seems to have matured quite a bit in the last 5 months. That sense of maturity comes through improved integration of the acidity into the overall body. That body is one of powerful fruit, with the raisin/prune/Amarone note from earlier is also more part of the overall wine rather than presenting as an individual component. Relatively lush mouthfeel, tannins pretty well behaved and manageable. At 91 points, I subjectively enjoy this more than the score would suggest. Drinking very well now. Extremely approachable. I suspect even better in 24 months, but very tempting and enjoyable for current consumption. None of remaining 3 bottles are going to get very old.

Opened it up and was a little disappointed. Jon R, finally you have failed me. But as the bottle got some air, and I got some of the bottle, the slightly funky nose blew off, and the wine took on a little mint, a little black plum, blueberry, and a little cherry. Cherry? In a cab based wine? The mint gives way to cedar, and more plum. Definitely the high-acid end of cab, with a little greenness. Does it make me want to forsake Cal Cab? No. But the greenness reflects the Cab Franc component, and that's what it's aiming for, a more bordeaux, less fruit forward wine. I guess.

Popped and poured into glass, leeting breathe for about an hour before consumption. Very bitter/acidic after first hour in the glass. Opened up a bit after about 1.5 hours in the glass. Good bing cherry fruit on the palate and I also picked up the dusty/wood characteristic of the wine. However, overall I could not get over how acididc this was which was a turn off for me without any food to accompany the wine. It would pair well with a rich sauce, IMO. I will save my last bottle for a year or two to see if the acidity becomes more integrated over time. I will also try again tomorrow and see if that makes a difference. Day 2: Vacu-vin sealed from day 1, and the acidity subsided quite a bit and the wine was more integrated. Raising the score from a 89 to a 90.

Dark cherry and fresh cut wood / sawdust combine on the nose in a very pleasant and inviting way. More of the same on a medium palate. Also a background, faint note of raisin/resin on the midpalate. Gobs of acidity with fine and manageable tannins on the medium-length finish. Comes across to me as balancing between new world (good fruit depth, approachable) and old world (the wood, the raisin note, and the acidity), tipping toward old world. I would like to see what more time or more air would do for this. It could be really special for the price if the acidity folds into the body a bit, allowing the fruit to show its depth. 90 points for drinking as treated (poorly, opened and consumed within an hour of delivery).

Tasted this wine blind and initially thought it was some sort of Sangiovese blend with a good portion of Merlot. It turned out that this was the 2nd wine of the famous Tenuta di trinoro, with considerable portion of Cabernet Franc (more than 20%), Merlot (around 30%) as well as usual suspects CS and PV. Overall, an excellent wine, lacking depth of a great growth, but otherwise very fine. Medium (+) ruby. Nose reveals medium (+) notes of black fruit, spice and even jam. Nose opened up considerably after 30 min in glass. Great concentration of fruit, good use of oak and medium (+) length. Lacking some of the complexity and length of the best "Supertuscans", but great with food and fit for hedonistic drinking. Drink now, can keep another 3 years, however, there is not much structure to support long-term cellaring. Cheers!

Lots of terroir on the nose. Blackberry, raspberry, red licorice, slight oak

Served with fish at Boca wine dinner featuring Tunuta Trinoro and Passopisciaro. I enjoyed the '06 Le Cupole at Esca last year in NY. This was my first taste of the '07. Purple color. Nose of cedar, spice, and blackberry. Ripe palate of spicy dark fruit and vanilla. Excellent length. Pleasant acidity. Sweet tannins. If I didn't know, I would have never guessed that this wine is mostly Cab Franc.

Loved this wine and I'm glad I've got a couple more bottles on the shelf. Med/dark ruby in color with some cherry along with dark fruits and some floral notes as well as tobacco and bicycle tire on the nose. A silky mouthfeel with strong tannins. Palate of dark fruit and cherry with a long and slightly sweet finish. Beautiful wine and a fantastic value at $27. Will definitely look for more of this for the cellar.

very nice drinking Bordeaux blend from Italy. the cab franc adds a nice note to this and it pairs well with food. The blend is 40% cab Franc, 22% cab, 30% merlot and 8% petite verdot.

Again. Excellent blend from Tuscany, with rich, medium bodied fruit, a nice herbal quality, and a satisfying texture.

Really had to squint to see the merits this wine has to offer. High acidity. Sour cherries. A little harsh at times but good with food.

Terrific Bordeaux blend from Tuscany. This is the forth or fifth vintage of this I've had and it is always a little different and always delivers. This one has very nice dark, lush plummy fruit that is held in balance by a lean, cool structure. Great buy.

Some incense on the nose with cherry. Well balanced with limited cherry fruit and solid dark fruits undernneath. Good but not great. Lacks distinction.

Cheers!
