Tasted vis-a-vis Pira Marenca, this came out as a winner on the night. Surprisingly open, rich, fruity, in perfect balance. Red berries, hints of chocolate, tar, ripe fruit, in a perfect spot. No hurry at all, no need to keep it either. #JR&Co

Lovely fresh notes on the herbier, more floral side of the nebbiolo spectrum- some rose, fennel, menthol. A fresher, more transparent showing. Pretty, but not fully open and slightly less expressiveness and intensity than I would have liked or expected.

Awful nose of acetone did not blow off even with 3 hours in the decanter. The wine itself in the mouth was somewhat enjoyable but the chemical aroma was hard to ignore.

Sadly wasn't the best bottle, not undrinkable but showing signs of heat damage (quite Porty) and a hint of TCA. We drank half the bottle between ourselves and then moved on.

At first opening some off notes or vanilla and caramel but after 3 or 4 hours they have faded to a more balanced nose of more dark fruit and spice. Nice intensity on the palate with med+ finish, good balance and a bit of lingering tannin. A wine with some nice energy but perhaps on the down slope. My only bottle but if I had more I’d want to drink them soon. Still, a pretty classy Barolo.

Gang of 4 in Covid19 times; Nebbiolo (@ RW): Beautifully developed and complex bouquet with herbs and spices and still some cherries. On the palate a very juicy wine with beautiful acidity and a pleasant touch of sweetness. Very friendly and just great and in a beautiful drinking stage. For me the WOTN.

Decanted ~6 hours. Tasted side by side with the Casa Mate. This is the more complete, nuanced and enjoyable wine today. The rich fruit is met with elegant layers of dried florals, leather and spice. Perfectly balanced. In a great early drinking window now, with the right amount of air.

I have not drunk a lot of barolo and find the wine difficult to assess - this goes well with food and is full of 'earthiness' but seems one dimensional with a lack of fruit to balance?

This is a great old Barolo, showing a bit of age, but still great and powerful. Plums, spices and tar, as you would expect, plus a hint of mocha to make it more interesting. A powerful lasagna was well paired with this Barolo and made the Barolo stand out all the more.

Absolutely stunning wine. Decanted for a few hours. Perfectly cellared. Mocha and chocolate notes. Still rather youthful and I wish I had another bottle left

A deeper, purple, colour than much Nebbiolo. Glossy. A bit reticent initially but this revealed itself in stages. Rich, spicy, medium to full bodied. Purple fruit. Generally lower acidity. But seemed more balanced as time went on. The tannins are well integrated but I should think this has the body and fruit to carry on for sometime yet. Not the classic Barolo I was hoping for but a very good wine drinking well. The score could be harsh.

Not too much discolouration, quite dark core. On the nose quite open, spicy, dark fruit, lovely floral and balsamic notes. Hints of mushrooms, too. On the palate really grippy and backward with powerful tannins. Fresh. Good fruit, very long and lingering. No rush at all, I would love to try this with a bit more age. 92-93+

Intriguing classic nebbiolo nose with tar, flowers, truffles, black fruits. Takes you away from the here and now. Balanced and with good structure for further ageing. Delicious.

This wine is still very young, with hard tannins persisting, primary fruit, and a closed structure. If you can wait, please do. It was still pleasant drinking, with some rose and violet emerging on the nose, and a sinewy mass of dark berry fruit. The structure is good and I think this will have the stuffing to emerge as an evolved and graceful wine in 5-10 years time.

Decent but not a strong nose. Light mid-toned fruit and wood. Tasty mouth with a nice entry and a stout wooden finish. A bit of balsamic and some punishing wooden tannins. Not a lot of elegance or freshness but a good wine all the same.

Medium bright red with just a touch of brisking. Lovely feminine floral nose - more roses. Though maybe just a touch of VA or elsea slight "hotness" from a warm vintage. Relatively full bodied palate, quite generous and maybe with a structure that is a bit loose as the tannins aren't quite strong enough to set a tight framework. Nevertheless a lovely early drinking barolo that will probably peak within the decade.

Consistent character to prior bottles but just beginning to hint at mature characteristics while still youthful. For my palate this bottle is a hybrid of the classic and modern styles. It is Barolo but has a clean, fresh quality that I like.

Showing quite well for such a young wine. Open notes of rose petals and tar on the nose. The palate is structured with a slightly modern touch but the fruit carries through well. I think this wine is in good balance and should continue to age well. A success.

Garnet center to ruby edges. Nose of blackberry, dried cherry, nutmeg and cedar. Great acidity, with notes of tar, raspberry, and blackberry. Velvet texture, dry but with a good backbone of red fruit. Really well made Barolo, expressive after 1.5 hours of decanting. Outstanding!

Tasted at Moore Brothers on 11/12/2005: Very nice wine but probably a little past my price point. Tasted both "Vigna Casa Mate" and this wine; both are distinctive.

Decanted for about 2 hours went very well with food at Mozza. Earthy, forest floor but still had dark fruit notes.
