  • Perfect fill. Decanted for 30 minutes to let it come to life. Color shows it’s age. Some nice vibrant mountain Zin fruits, some basic tertiary notes. Fun to drink but definitely going downhill.

  • Continuing a conversation with Mr. Ridge:*

A blend of 75% Zinfandel, 20% Petite Sirah and 5% Mataro that looks almost like it was blended a year ago. Royal burgundy with an almost purple core holds its own until just at the rim with only the thinnest of bricking. Looking at the wine, I suspect very few people would anticipate an age of 20 years. A nose of rhubarb, coffee, pepper, brown sugar and black olive also. The nose continues to evolve and deepen. Its richness is palpable. The palate delivers an excellent texture/mouthfeel; it’s almost velvety. The rhubarb notes are nuanced; the coffee more dominant. It’s a fully integrated wine. Imagine Ingrid Bergman moving across the screen in Notorious. That’s how this wine goes down. A wee bit of sediment. A pleasing, balanced 13.8% alc. And even with that, some heat appears on the finish once and a while. With dry rubbed roasted pork tenderloin. Not the best pairing. Frankly, the wine needed something with more complexity and subtly. Recommended, but leaning toward Highly Recommended. This is one fine wine.

*Not to imitate TomHill, but to continue the homage he began to someone who personified Ridge.

  • RASPBERRY AND DEEP FRUIT IN THE NOSE, WITH BLACKBERRIES AND LICORICE IN THE FLAVOR. MEDIUM LENGTH FINISH.
