medium ruby color and restrained cherry and herbal nose which opened a little on day 2. This was medium bodied with sour cherry fruit and a little clove/cinnamon spice character and nicely balanced finish. Not complex or long, but good overall character and good with food. Not big and jammy like too many California pinots, which apparently reflects the cooler Santa Barbara vineyard sources. I liked this at least as much as a number of Bourgognes that I have had as well as some village level wines. I wish I had a few more bottles.

An interesting example from cool St Barbara. More to the elegant side rather than the jammy/full bodied. Relative simple nose showing intense leafy vegetality, mostly red fruit together with toasted oak. Supple but lacking excitement on palate with vivid acidity and medium ripe & velvety tannins. Well balanced with medium full body. Not particularly long length. Easy drinking combining red fruit and vegetality. Overall an expressive and mellow wine to be enjoyed over the next 2-3 years.

This is a light, lovely Pinot Noir, without the complexity of say, a really good burgundy. Cherry and raspberry predominate, with a hint of pepper, minimal tannins, and good, not great, acidiity. At 19 bucks its a great value. A really good, but not great, Pinot, a very good food wine or drink alone.

Black cherry, red licorice, black licorice on the nose. Black and red berry notes, somewhat stemmy, acidic and ripe. Complex and ripe, but without the finishing intensity to be truly haunting. (This has improved from the last time I had this, has picked up volume.)

Deep brick red color, good nose, but a highly tannic and very thin wine, with good acidity. Needs some aeration to bring out some slight berry, cherry, and pepper. Not a bad value, but it better pair nice with whatever else you are having because it won't stand on its own.

Very enjoyable. Just a tad sweeter and creamier than I might have liked, clearly a California wine, but balanced, tastes like a Pinot. Good qpr. Would definitely buy again. Didn't realize I had purchased a year ago and didn't like as well. Think maybe both the wine and I have mellowed in the past year.

Very disappointed with this wine! I expected so much more, but all I got was a thin wine with absolutely nothing special going on. It tasted like drinking watered down grape juice with absolutely no mid palate or finish! This wine came highly recommended, but for $20, I would hardly call this a bargain. Don't let the reviews fool you...this is not a Burgundy style Pinot. Just because the wine is lighter than most California Pinot's doesn't mean it should be compared to a Burgundy.

There are some good Pinots out there in the $20 price range (Trinitas is one that immediately comes to mind), but the Au Bon Climat Pinot Noir is definitely not one of them. The one word that sums up this wine is "thin".....everything from the color, to the nose to the fruit reeks of "thin" ... this wine is bland and without any real character.

Charming nose. Lightly spicy, sweet red berry character with strawberries, some minerals and a bit of fresh/unripe greenness. Balanced taste, cool climate style, not too much oak nor any excessive alcohol. Good intensity of the red fruit aromas, some length thanks to the fresh acids. Overall an charming, easy-drinking pinot with some elegance to it. The US price $20 is really good value, but the swedish price is too high at $35. Will try again with roasted pheasant in a few days.

Great entry level Pinot, really delivers for the price. Supposedly about 1/4 Mondeuse. Fruit forward in cherry with a little of the Pinot spice and herb. Little oak, which is good since spoofy vanilla and smoke ruin most entry level Pinot. The structure here is spot on for early drinking. Light tannin, fresh acidity.

Well I don't agree with one of the reviews that says this tastes like a cheap Pinot. I've tasted cheap Pinot and this isn't one of them. For the price point it is very good: not heavy, fruit is balanced with a bit of pepper/spice, faired well over the 2 days I had it opened. Paired nicely with braised beef short ribs (red bell peppers, Mexican onions and tomatoes). I think it would keep for another couple of years; however, drinks well now.

At the pop this was actually really nice with rich dark cherries, plums, and spice both on the nose and the taste. But it seemed to lose a bit of weight and depth with air. The spice went away and the fruit become more candied. I never disliked this wine, but I was surprised to see it lose a step like it did. I will chalk it up to it being far too young at this point. But certainly for the price point this is one of the more enjoyable pinots out there.

Not bad; probably justifies the ~$20 price. Very drinkable. Good pinot experience, except that that the kiss of oak is a little too slobbery. Otherwise there is the earthiness and spiciness you would expect. Agree with a prior comment that its hard to complain for the price, and yet, I won't be buying this again -- too much creaminess for me.

This is a nice Pinot for the price ($23), although the nose and taste are not of a typical Pinot. I'd like to try this is a blind Pinot tasting. There is little to no funk on the nose, just smooth berry.

The fruit in this wine shows nice classic California Pinot Noir characteristics with lots of dark cherry fruits on the nose and palate, mixed with a touch of oak and some clove as well. Nice acidity and good balance. I could probably ask for more from the finish but then perhaps the wine would ask more from my wallet so I can't complain too much. For $17, this is a fantastic bargain and a great wine to have a few bottles around for the holidays.

Cherry aromas, with an herbal, floral edge. This is supple and has sweet and tangy red berry, black cherry flavors, and is reasonably balanced with acidity. A year or two is needed in the cellar to round out, but this does not have much depth, even if it is pretty good for its level.
