  • Flinched--opened this out of fear of the premox monster. Absolutely no worries on first sniff. Maybe a little heavy handed on oak, but just barely. Lots of citrus on the nose and substantial on palate as well. Extremely powerful, with a full. almost oily mouthfeel. A little bitter lemon pith along with kumquat and butterscotch. Drank over about 3 hours--oak softened at the end with more of the butterscotch. Very classic exotic Chassagne, but none of my expected tropical fruit notes at all. I hand carried this from Caveau de Chassagne-Montrachet in June of '02 and it has been stored at a dark, damp 54 degrees. Happy Burgundy Thursday with butter-roasted lobster tail, littleneck clams and shaved fennel.
