Dinner with the wine group (La Bohème, Palo Alto): Gorgeous pale ruby color, youthful still; aromatic, strawberry; palate is light bodied, youthful red fruit, medium-plus acidity; medium length finish. Really lovely burgundy, but a bit youthful and needs more time. 91-92+

A 20-year old Grand Cru with freshness and enveloping acidity, from a site that used to be a limestone quarry. Rose petal and tobacco notes sustain an engaging mix of lightness and persistence. Terrific with the boeuf bourguignon!

Mature and well balanced, the 2002 Corton-Bressandes sports an appealing blend of dark Pinot fruit and earth. Resolved but still with a freshness of fruit. Good finish.

A lovely and fully mature red burgundy with earthy, spicy, herby fruit that is in total harmony with the fresh and suave structure. At peak and should hold there for 5-10 years.

Monday Night Football and Grand Cru (Chicago, IL): Impressively fresh for a 2002, with a perfumed note on the nose (is it stems?). More elegant and lifted than I would expect for the vintage as well, this has plenty of bright acids and a nice vein of minerality throughout. This doesn't have as much weight and breadth on the palate, but instead there is more freshness and minerality that I do like a fair bit.

PNP into Zalto Burgundy glass ("Leaf" day): Pale ruby with very fine deposits.
Mature red berry fruits like strawberries that is a little too jammy. Very earthly too with dried herbs and leaves. More secondary than tertiary notes without the likes of mushrooms / sous bois aforementioned by other tasters.
Structurally seems intact with some unresolved, silky tannins. Quite flavourful on palate with a spicy finish. There is enough acidity here but ultimately it lacks the vibrancy and freshness that better examples would show?
90-91 points.
1 day upon opening into BB&R Burgundy glass (“Fruit” day): Still more oxidative notes than desired but brighter red fruits and somehow even purer in aromas and palate. Very interesting an aged Burgundy to improve over time. Upgrade to 91 points.

Decanted 2 hours, served with white truffle risotto (Italy truffle day sale!). Was a little worried that this would be OTH, but it was still fresh and the earthy, mushroom, woody flavors were perfect for the food. Smooth tannins and good finish.

Lovely, mature. Nose of black mushrooms, hoisin, and cinnamon. More blackberry on the palate. Not particularly energetic, but ample weight. Finishes strong with still-firm tannins and lip-smacking tanginess.

Monthly Tasting Group HWS #077; Round the Corton hill in Burgundy (By BD): The bouquet is very special and different, more sweet, than you would expect from a Burgundy wine. On the palate in fact the same. Remarkably much sweetness, mild acidity and soft tannin, which still shows some future, To be honest; I don't know what to think. Definitely a very pleasant wine, but tasted completely blind beside some other (and a bit cheaper) Burgundy wines it did not show much extra, but certainly something different.

Smoky nose with candied cherry. Smoky bacon and herbs on the palate too, with bright red fruits. Medium weight, no bad thing but perhaps lacking a bit in grip. Nice finish that reminds me of those little intense wild strawberries plus more smoke. lovely. No great majesty but no Pinot lover could dislike this. really should be given many more years asleep. No regrets checking a bottle but only because I have a few to leave behind. Will try to leave those for three years. I really like this. Good value. So much better than the tollot-beaut.

Popped and poured and consumed over two days. Bright ruby color, nose of ripe red fruit, faint earthy/mushroom notes, but seemed a bit closed. The palate was a bit tight as well, but giving up bright cherry and herbs with a seamless texture, acid and round tannins. Everything was very harmonious, but on day two it was much more expressive with a more earthy/animal character coming through, but still a feminine expression.

This wine wants to be laid down for about 10 years. It was cherry and cherry candy and a bit hot right away. Mellowed a bit after an hour or two in a decanter. Needs some time to knit together.

Beautifully fresh floral herbal and red fruited. A fine 2002. Excellent with grilled lamb chops.
