Intensity medium. Lemon curd, overripe yellow apple, honey, nuts, sulfur, (bees)wax, linoleum. Acidity medium(+). Finish medium(+). Fascinating how a 25-year-old Chenin Blanc still stands strong, despite the fact that its peak might be a few years behind us.

Tasting evening with Bas & Lennart (Utrecht, NL): [Tasted blind] Called 20 year Chenin from the Loire. Didn’t have the sherry notes you often find in old Coulee. This got better with more air, although I still had the feeling it is past its peak. Still drinking nicely though. Deep golden, nutty, beewax, linoleum, dried yellow apple, some savoury notes, tomato leaf. Medium+ acidity, medium finish with some gunpowder flavors making it more interesting

This is a bit of an odd wine that also needs some time. We had opened and decanted it and I'd say that it was drinking the best at the end. A bit oxidized to start which works ok for me because I like old champagne but isn't so much so for everyone. With time though it became this very deep, caramel flavored, round and kindof unctuous style of wine. It's lower acid and just generally more but somehow kindof works. Enjoyable wine.

BYOB with wines 30+ years (Sollentuna): Sweet floral notes, honey, but over the top, followed by very thin cucumber water and with a finish that is spicy and with some alcohol.

Opened. 22nd, evening. Color. Golden honey Nose. Honeycomb, orange marmalade, apricots in alcohol, stewed peaches. After a few minutes, hints of cream and linden leaves. Palate. Upon opening, closed, alcohol. Slowly some weight comes through and oiliness.
23rd, midday. Nose. Honey, linden, very matured orange, cooked peaches. Very little change in glass poured the night before. Maybe a drop of saffron. Palate. Alcohol has subsided in glass poured night before. Light oiliness, bitter almonds, hint of stone fruit, lingering finish with hints of fruit. As if in a glass of water there were a few drops of stone fruit juice, and it lingers.
Poured from the glass. Nose. Little alcohol, oxidative notes, plums in alcohol. Palate. Acidic, unripe nefle, bitterness in the finish.

Coulee de Serrant 1980-2006: 2nd bottle opened 24h in advance, double decanted 1h before. Steely and closed, some lanolin, but overall quite hard and reticent. With time in the glass it developped a very pleasant bouquet of cotton candy. For 1998 I believe that long decant didn't work, the freshly opened bottle was more open, while the 2nd day bottle was closed/tired.

Coulee de Serrant 1980-2006: 1st bottle PnP. Quite fruity, honeyed as well as farmyard (!) notes, wax, brioche and herbs come forward with air. Fresh on the palate, but the accidity is not entirely precise - some pickle notes as well. Overall very good.

Coulée de Serrant - 1990 - 1999 and more Loire (Huet, Closel, Landron) (Home): Medium golden yellow. In the nose, this is surprisingly soft with very ripe fruit, tending towards the cooked/dried fruit: there's candied mango and pineapple, some orange peel, honey and tangerine. Dried apricots as well. Very ripe and warm - beautiful. On the palate, it's delicate, harmonic, rather full bodied, but without fat. There's minerality and some alcoholic bite. Very long finish with a little hole in the middle. Ripe style. Excellent.

Another cerebral experience with a Joly wine. Definitely one for the wine geeks. Upon opening, with the wine cold, it had apple cider and floral elements and an oxidative style, very dry and perfectly fine, but not compelling. I vacuum-sealed the bottle and put in the refrigerator forgetting it for perhaps a week and then out of curiosity tried it again. Cold, there was little to recommend it, but with warming a fantastic array of scents emerge - honey, orange peel, meadow grass, nail polish, baking gingerbread and then sauternes-like smells coming and going. It is really all about the nose, but what an interesting experience. The wine also takes on quite a bit of weight with warming and is a bit hot on the finish at this stage. Still very interesting the next day on. As an aside, my wife did not like this nor did a guest. Another guest was enthrallled. Definitely a crowd splitter and is at its best cool or warm with air.

Helder schitterend goud geel.

Fresh apple, floral and very dry. This wine is drinking nicely now. It lacks the weight of the better vintages and, at this stage at least, does not have the strong initial whisky / volatile character that I find so enticing. Less evolution through dinner, but still very nice and flexible with Thanksgiving fare.

Deep gold. A complex nose with oxidatively ripe apple purée, prominent bitter almond, ginger, liquorice. Minerals. Dry, medium bodied wine with fine intense acidity. Complex and elegant. Not the heaviest vintage. Apricots, beeswax, toffee and loads of minerality. Long lingering finish. Still drinking good but I wouldn't perhaps store this much longer

glue, honey, citrus, harsh acidity that takes over on the palate, not balanced

Over the top. Cellared this 2 too long. Very good anyway. Fantastic loooong. Needed some hours to open up. Typical Serrant i all ways.

Bellissimo dorato. Al naso albicocca, nespola, nocciola, arachidi, fiori gialli, erbe officinali, anice stellato. Bocca rotonda, intensa, mirabile l’equilibrio tra sapidità, acidità e consistenza glicerica
