Popped and poured. Dark ruby. The nose was everything I love about Burgundy. Blackberry, porcini mushrooms, barnyard, Camembert cheese. Teetering on that line between primary and secondary aromas. On the palate quite balanced with fine powdered tannins and black fruit. Really hitting on all cylinders.

No decanting.Beautiful rounded nose with typical Vosne spices.Drinking beautifully, well balanced with good fruit and dimension. This wine is in a good drinking window today and unlikely to improve much from here.

More bottle variation. Bold but sharp. More fruit-centric friend actually disliked it and asked for a different wine! Lots and lots of aeration does help round it out. Dramatically better day 2.

Les Amoureuses Dinner (Imperial Treasure Teochew, Ion): Very good indeed. This had been sitting in my cellar for a long time, and all the notes on bottle variation got me very worried. Thankfully, this was a really nice example. It had a great nose, full of toasty woody Vosne spices drifting around a core of black cherries and plums, with a toss of savoury meat and earth aromas in there too. The palate had a real muscular strength to it, with a sinewy stream of black cherry fruit lined with firm but fine tannins and bright, juicy acidity. This probably needs a bit of time yet, given how much youthful strength and vigour it had. The finish coated the mouth with a blush of bright acidity and chewy tannins framing a spicy, chewy back-palate. A chiseled, sinewy wine. Very good, lots of strength, maybe lacking some of the lazy finesse of the Amoureuses that came before, but very solid, with a wonderful depth and breadth to it. Great stuff.

Delightful red Burgundy in a good place. Dark fruits still in play with notable vosne spice, medium bodied with good intensity of flavour and pretty long. The nose was not in the 'wow' category, but charming and with time in the glass began to develop a subtle suggestion of Indian incense. Paired perfectly with a duck breast. I liked this a lot, drink dates here to 2023 seem fair.

Reminiscent of prior experiences but something a little out of balance. Not sure if it’s bottle variation, if last night’s ‘02 Montille Rugiens was so other-worldly as to reset the bar on my favorite burgundy vintage, if this is evolving, or if it’s falling apart. I will say that the components came together better and it lost that off-putting factor with 3+ hours in the decanter. Might try another tomorrow for mother's day to test bottle variation.

Acker Pre-Auction Tasting Wines & In-Auction Dinner Wines (Zuma - New York NY): Tasting, brief note. Very attractive aromas show mature red cherry and berry with very savory spice. Similar flavors are slightly more mature, slightly less pristine. I preferred this closer to release. Best to drink on the younger side.

Vosne Romanee Tasting (Golden Gate Yacht Club, San Francisco): Pale ruby with slight bricking appropriate for its age; nose is intensely aromatic with floral, red fruit, stems, spice, quite elegant on the nose; palate is light bodied, light tannins but definitely has structure, youthful red fruit, slight asian spice, some cola, excellent fresh acidity throughout, persistent flavors through the finish; medium+ length finish. This is an excellent red burgundy, consistent with Vosne Romanee (aromatic, elegant, some spice), and enjoyable now but also still quite primary with likely decades ahead of it. Drink the next bottle in 5+ years. 91+ Few hours of air: This is a wine with tremendous balance and a great blend of fruit and aromatic spice, fruits have become a bit darker; palate has fleshed out and has superb acidity. Overall, this wine is young. Needs a decade or so. 91-93++

Dark red in color, nose of slight meatiness, flower petals and cherries. Medium palate but a bit straight forward and simple, fragrant but overall showing a bit more age than it actually is, but the nose is great.

Medium red, quite translucent, quite a bit of stems, floral, vosne spice, medium body, not particularly deep palate, slight bitterness finish from stems, a decent burg even if it won't win any awards.

Wildman Tasting and Dinner (Knightsbridge - Northbrook IL): Nose shows black cherry, spring flowers, fresh herbs and hints of oak. Good fruit on palate, albeit a bit reserved and hidden behind the wine's silky tannins. Great stuff here, just 5 years away.

Impromptu Burgundy night (Duxton Hill, Singapore): William's bottle. Pretty good, but a little disappointing when stacked up against some of the fabulous Potel bottlings I have tried recently. This was a dark ruby coloured wine, with a really nice nose showing leather, dust and sweet dark cherry with a hint of cola, a few flower petals and, strangely, some Gauda cheese. Very extracted feel from the dark colour and dense nose. This certainly showed on the palate as well, which had a firm undergirding of tannins supporting dark cherries, a hint of cola, and slightly savoury, black olive flavours. Fine balance with good power and length. Just lacked a bit of something special for all that extract. Very much enjoyed nonetheless.

Red Burgundy at The Wine Club (with a brown-bagged cherry): Quite ripe, but lovely nose with perfumed, spicy red berries, licorice, and some well-integrated oak. Palate seems a little tight but echoes the nose, a little grapey currently. Good juicy acids. $65.

More highly toned than my previous bottle. Overtones of coffee and Vosne spice, slightly sweet finish. Lovely and at peak.
