Pnp and drank half of bottle over 2h put the half full bottle into the fridge and drank 2 days later with no Coravin or vacuum. Still a very dark in the glass. Very ripe and for my taste overripe dark fruit, good concentration of the fruit but not layered or complex, good acidity providing some lift, medium tannins, medium (-) length. Shows a bit more bitterness and tar notes on day 3 in the open bottle but does not fade nor picks up any oxidative notes. High quality Cab that will last and made in yesterday’s style that appealed to Parker but not a wow wine in my eyes.

One of 3 CA cabs served for a dinner with friends. Other 2 were 2014 DiCostanzo Farella Vineyard and 2009 Chimney Rock Ganymede Vineyard. The wines were served simultaneously. Dinner was grilled flank steak and roasted potatoes, beets, and carrots. All three were excellent. Opened about an hour before serving. Consumed over the next 2 hours. This wine was noteworthy for its decadent smoothness, not a sharp edge in the bottle. Finish was moderately long. The fruit is pretty well muted and no secondary flavors emerged of note. Very little sedimentation.

No new nuances from bottle I consumed last year. A good bottle of wine but the price has more than doubled, which makes it out of my reach now.Still, that should not detract from the quality. Well aged and think I drank this last one at a good time. Most likely able to age further but I want to err on the early side instead of the late side. I feel that all the components have integrated nicely and it delivers a great cabernet experience.

Seems to have peaked. Very smooth and much calmer than our prior bottles. Pours very dark, still has the dark fruit prominence. Probably in its last couple years of goodness.

No doubt where this fruit comes from. Beautiful, dark currants, cassis, blackberries, dark cherries, plum, creamy black raspberries, dry soils, tobacco, coffee, leather, dry crush rocks, dry stems and very dark florals. Drinking nicely and will continue to get better.

Chappellet vertical (incl. the legendary 1969): From magnum. Dark, dense and showing the ripe profile of the vintage (and the decade) and a tad of alcohol. From magnum the wine is still a bit closed and will need time to fully open up. I suppose that regular bottles might be a bit more open. Nevertheless, I would give the wine at least 10 more years in the cellar to shed some fat. In 20 or 30 years this might be a winner but today it was inferior to all other young(er) Pritchard Hills (2010, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016) we tasted.
TN: The nose is dominated by the dark, dense and ripe fruit. Heavily intense, leaving little space for other nuances. Better on the palate with blackberries, dark chocolate, minerality. Despite the intensity and stuffing, soft and delicate with lots of very fine tannins and a good acidity. Medium- complexity only, still a bit closed only revealing more with a lot of swirling.
Decanting: I would give it at least 3 hours in the decanter (8h for magnums).

Chappellet tasting (Napa Grill, Zurich): Part of a Chappellet tasting showing a total of 16 wines including a Prichard Hill mini-vertical (7 vintages from 1969 to 2016) attended by Cyril and Blakesley Chappellet. The one highlight I will never forget was clearly the 1969 Pritchard Hill that knocked me out of my socks. In more recent vintages the 2013-16 representatives come across less extracted and more complex that the 2007-12. The whites were decent but can't compete in the Permier League. Also had a bottle of the 2016 PNV which was unfortunately closed but showed great potential.
Tasting note: Although generally considered very strong vintage, I found the 2017 less expressive with a narrower palette of flavours than the 2010 in the same flight. Ripe cassis marmelade fruit with a sting of fresh herbs and some sweet savoury. Full-bodied with a muscular structure and grippy tannins, but also more heat than the 2010 and 2012.

77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Petit Verdot, 8% Malbec, 2% Merlot and 1% Cabernet Franc. 14.9% ABV. Aged 20 months in 100% new French oak. I let it breathe for a half hour and drank over the next two. Full-bodied, dry pure fruit. Oak, mocha notes. An unusually long, layered finish. Strong acidity provides backbone (a little more than I'd prefer).

This is in a much better place than the 13. I didn't write a note but recently the 13 was quite tannic and shut down compared to when I had it earlier.
I double decanted and gave this 5+ hours as it continued to open up.
It's still tannic but you get loads of earth, graphite and structure with a great silky finish with tobacco, blackberry.

Highly tannic upon opening, calmed some after a lot of air. As with many other high end 2007’s, seems to be in its down phase, would wait a while on these.

Deep garnet color with pleasant inviting bouquet. Wine needs at least 2 hours of decant. Dark cherry and blueberry with chocolate, tobacco and a touch of nutmeg on the finish. I liked the wine as it opened but for Pritchard Hill, I'll be honest, a bit of a disappointment.

Did a side by side blind tasting of 3 outstanding red wines with 8 oenophile friends - all CS majority and well aged. 2009 Chateau Leoville Barton, 2008 Guado Al Tasso Antinori super Tuscan, and 2007 Chappellet Pritchard Hill Estate. All outstanding #1 favorite was the Super Tuscan with some preferring the Chappellet - none preferred the Bordeaux.

Decanted for 2 hours and placed back into the bottle for another hour. Then drank at a restaurant during a 2 hours period. This is a Pritchard Hill treasure. I love the minerality and power of this wine, the Petit Verdot vas overpowering at first, but it mellowed down towards the end of the night. A Riedel sommelier glass or Vinum XL is highly recommended.

D120; G10; 4*+8.5+4*+8.5+8.5+4+4.5=92+; Lots of sediment; dark red color; blackberry, cassis, leather, licorice, tar, nice purity of aromatics; mouthfeel is very acidic + hot (alcohol) + tannic, which smooths out slightly with 15+ minutes in the glass after 2+ hours decant; flavors closely follow the aromas with the acid and tannin distracting into a medium finish; balance, if you want to call it that, is everything over the top: acid, tannin, alcohol in excess, which I suppose means it will last for many, many years, but it is unlikely to ever resolve itself. Opened along with 2007 Bryant - same vintage and vineyard (must be very different areas of the Pritchard Hill Vineyard...). The result is vastly different wines that clearly show how even in very expensive wines you tend to get what you pay for. The Bryant at release was twice the cost of the Chappellet (and secondary market is now three times the cost).

As this was my first Chappelet, I didn't know what to expect. Most reviewers say it was a massive wine but it felt more along the lines of a bordeaux or a Dominus, most likely due to the blend. Very well balanced as a result, with tannins that appeared at the back and side of the mouth, yet not kept in check by the fruit. Slow to emerge but held together after a day in the bottle. A notch or two more masculine that a Dominus and leads me to believe this has life left. Recommended.

Huge Cabernet, but ready to drink now and for several more years. Have been drinking Chappellet since my honeymoon, and then got a private tour of the winery back in '04. For this wine, I had it for my 17th wedding anniversary at Trattoria Romana where I had muscles with pesto sauce and then lobster tails oreganato. Loads of red fruit, spice and earth flavors. Long finish. Better on day 2. Worth the money...better than several flagship Cabs.

Did a 2007 Pritchard Hill tasting. Paired with burgers then continued to assess over 4 hours.
Dark red in color. Toasty oak, lots of chocolate cherry, still young with lots of structure, and it did develop over the several states hours it was opened. It was a step up from the Signature bottling from the same year. Super good. Consistent. 3/4 in a tough crowd.

Blood red. Dark and dense with only mild sediment. Loaded with minerals, spice and red fruit on the nose. For me it clearly benefitted from being decanted and allowed to open up. It was closed and not very giving at PNP. It find this to still be early in the drinking window, lots of tannins still needing to be tamed. There is plenty of dark fruit and complex layers of flavor. I did look at other's notes when trying to decide whether to drink this tonight. There is either some significant bottle variation or tasters not giving this enough time in the decanter. I really liked it but will not be in a hurry to drink my other bottles. Better balance and refinement with less up front fruit than the Signiture bottling.

OMG this is an outstanding and memorable wine! Paired beautifully with a rare bone in rib-eye after a one hour decant. This is not a wine that needs extended decanting - less is more with this wine. Dead centre in the middle of the drinking window. Needs big bold food to strut its stuff.

2 hour decant- last time I had this was 2014 and I said it needed 5 hours, this probably still needs 5 hours, this may be in a dumb phase. There is very little upfront fruit. I'm perplexed that all the professional critics rate this 95 and up. My remaining bottles may be headed to auction. Something is just off. I don't see this as past prime as this wine usually has 30 plus years of life.
Seemed to be already past its prime - which at less than 10 years old is a bit shocking for a $125 Napa Cabernet. Full-bodied and very rich. Quite sweet on entry and lacking the depth, intensity and length one would expect from a wine of this supposed caliber. Not a lot of structure left here. Yet another over-rated, over-priced Napa wine. I am through with Chappellet's Pritchard Hill bottling. Their own 2007 Mountain Cuvee was noticeably better than this - at one-fifth the price. 50+5+12+15+7=89

New Years Eve at Chris and Stephanie's...last magnum, brought for the crowd.
Consistent with prior notes:" Deep purple color. Nose is classic Pritchard Hill, dark and red fruits. Palate was tart/sour dark fruits, blueberry, tart black cherry, currants, baking spices, olives, smoke, white pepper. Really rich mouthfeel and texture. Finish is layered and complex, goes for 30+ seconds."
This wine is in a good secondary phase, probably it prime over next 7 years. Tannins are nicely integrated, soft edges with lush mouthfeel. Great expression of Pritchard Hill fruit...

Opaque purple color turning crimson at the rim with a nose that's dense, ripe, flamboyant, and complex with layers of dark and red berries, mocha, eucalyptus, earth, vanilla and her herbs. The palate is full-bodied, densely structured, dry, and velvety in texture. Persistent flavors of ripe black cherry, black currants, blueberries, licorice, espresso, chocolate, burnt caramel, toasted oak, and scorched earth fill the mouth up to the very that finishes long and sumptuous with hints of cardamom, dill and menthol. This is easily a classic - one of the best Chappellet has made. As good as the 2006 and just a notch lower than the 2005. Drinking at its peak now until 2022.

Brought this to Agricola with the MIT Peer group, last wine of the evening after a Peter Michael Ma Belle Fille and a Pegau CdP. Decanted at the restaurant for about 45 minutes, drank over an hour. Would opt for longer decant on next bottle.

This is in a good spot but will (IMO) improve with age. Its got all the richness to keep evolving. Balanced French oak, tannins are smooth and resolving, will get better although really great now. WIll hold for a bit

pretty terrible on day 1. alcohol burn with little to no fruit. suspected TCA until day 2 when stewed black and purple fruits showed up with some spice and port-like flavors. I'm thinking day 1 was a root day, so I'm not going to give this a rating.

This was great when we Tasted it back in 2010, after allowing this to open up for three hours some of the tannins diminished, this has improved so much, I am looking forward to now allowing the last couple of bottles to age for another 5 years before opening again.

Let this aerate at least 3 hrs if you want to drink it now. Highly extracted with great structure and serious tannins. Lovely pure notes of currant, and dark berries, with hints of coffee, minerals and spice. Long finish. The purity and concentration of fruit are remarkable. The alcohol is a tad too high to merit as score over 95 though. I'll wait 5 more yrs to open another.

Drop dead gorgeous. Medium+ weight. Deftly balanced. Soaring nose. Palate of coffee, tobacco, currant, leather, plums, berries, touch of spice..... so complex that I cannot really describe everything going on in this bottle. So pure. Finish goes and goes. I'm struggling to think of a better CA Cabernet.
Decanted 3 hours, and consumed side by side with a 2007 Seavey Cabernet. Both are still very young, and incredible wines...The Chappellet is drinking ever so slightly better at this point, it really was nicely balanced after the time in the decanter, and I'm sure it will been even better in a few years. If you can't wait, though, it really is drinking well now, given some time in the decanter.

Decanted for four hours, with the utilization of a funnel. Almost black with a glowing maroon rim. Unbelievable on the enticing nose. There's currant, nutmeg, milk chocolate, banana purée (which is truly interesting and intriguing), coffee grounds, pipe tobacco, sand and red plum. I find the palate to be just as magnetic; there's tannins that are very polished and savory, while showing well-sectored layers, and a finish that is sailing into the next century. Thus, one of my favorite '07 Cabernets and the best Chappellet I've had the pleasure of drinking. Very soft and classic in structure - not one to ignore twenty years from now. Drink 2013 - 2033.

Wow. Very concentrated aromas. Deep currant. Violets. Coffee. Mocha. Lots of delicate hidden aromas behind the dense fruit packaging. Very tannic. Full young tannins. High alcohol. Technically close to perfection, but there is something that is not seductive or inspiring to the wine. But still technically outstanding. Has high potential.

Also had a bottle of the 2016 PNV which was unfortunately closed but showed great potential.
Tasting note:
Although generally considered very strong vintage, I found the 2017 less expressive with a narrower palette of flavours than the 2010 in the same flight.

14.9% ABV. Aged 20 months in 100%
new French oak.

Drinking at its peak now until 2022.

pretty terrible on day 1. alcohol burn with little to no fruit. suspected TCA until day 2 when stewed black and purple fruits showed up with some spice and port-like flavors. I'm thinking day 1 was a root day, so I'm not going to give this a rating.
