Lovely Sass unfortunately by the time we got to this bottle we were toasted but all I remember is power, full to medium bodied, lots of dark cherries and berries, and a coffee finish with tannins still present but with elegance as is the case for this wine overall.

Bought on release. Wine was in perfect place. Fine tannins, perfect balance. Cherry and blueberry notes, hint of chocolate. Incredibly smooth with a 30 second finish. 99 points and toying with perfection.slow ox 1 hour. Love this wine

Still very young and should have left in decanter much longer. Lots of red and black fruit on the nose, notes of ground espresso, cassis and some of that wonderful Sassicaia perfume. On the palate powerful and dynamic, tannins still persistent and finishes with decent length and complexity. Decant 3 hours or drink in 5 years.

Tasted blind. Aromatic on the nose with red and black fruits, mushroom, truffle. Thought it was a Burgundy for the nose, however on the palate, its tasted like Bordeaux left bank. Did not decant. Drinking at its best now and expected to last easily 10-15 years.

As with our previous 375, significant sediment in the bottle. Auburn at the rim, shading to cherry/maroon at the core. On the nose, currants, plums, and blueberries. On the palate, black currants, plums, graphite, and a faint herbal note. Compared to our prior bottle, which had an offputting astringency, this bottle was alive and pleasantly aromatic, and the last glass was the best one.

Deep ruby red color. Decanted and aerated 90 minutes then drank over 2 hours. Delicious nose of dark red and black cherries, some peppery cassis, game elements, cigar tobacco. Medium bodied palate, explosion of perfumed dark red fruits mid palate, finishes dense and concentrated and notes of coffee powder with tannins very subtle. This wine is alive.

A wine with immediate impact with voluptuous and vibrant sweet cherry fruit, all supported by firm tannins and spice. Well balanced, still youthful and vigorous, the finish was exceptionally dry. A very fine wine, somehow I expected a little more development and complexity. Although a Cabernet blend in name, if I were to taste it blind, I would have sworn it was a Tuscan Sangiovese blend. It made a fascinating contrast with a more savoury and subdued Left Bank claret, which I must confess I preferred. 91pts

What a difference 2 years make! Straight out of the bottle this beauty was ready from the get go. Decanted and aerated for 90 minutes then drank over another 90 minutes. Perfect pairing with wagyu filet. Deep rich crimson red color. On the nose loads of cassis, dark red and black cherries, some graphite and game. Delicious fruit on the palate, unctuous with some perfume, great intensity and balance mid palate, finishes long with velvety tannins and a note of bitter chocolate or coffee. Truly outstanding.

Very ripe, with an almost raisin-like quality to the fruit. Some chocolate and leather development. Has a glossy feel in the mouth and is low of acidity. There's a gentle flex of muscle to the finish and flavours do persist.

Wine Pages Giro d’Italia Offline at 67PM (67 Pall Mall): Not decanted Nose of dried cherry, a little meat and leather, a balsamic and tomato note brings this to Italy Palate brings a mix of a dried and fresh cherries and plum, fine tongue coating tannins and a long finish. Probably not ideal to serve this after a Sagrantino but there is some nice elegance here and the finish was impressive

This needed 4 hours decanting to spread its wings - scented blackcurrants with vanilla on nose, rich sweet fruit, good length and tannins softening. Good wine but expensive for a Pauillac style wine.

Will T’s Sassicaia @ Noizé (Noizé, London): Creamy mulberry nose. Quite bright and clear. Nicely fresh with mid red fruit and a nice line. Bright with some energy. Just a slight sense of heat coming through on the finish that wasn’t there when opened six hours previously. On reflection is more VA than heat. Just a little too high toned for comfort. That said, still lots here, but would have been better without the extended airing. ****

During an Italian walkabout tasting, so only short impressions. CabSav/CabFranc blend. Medium garnet, well matured aromas of torrefaction, clay, tobacco. A bit thin on the palate but tannins are well integrated. Medium finish. Solid but not great.

Nose had smoke, ocean rock, blackberry, plum graphite and some pencil shavings. Palate was more black fruits, leather turned loam and that saline mineral character in the background. Medium acidity and medium plus finish. This is in its peak drinking window but can easily make its 20th birthday. Enjoy!

Opened for 2 hours before tasting and consumed over the next 2 hours. I purchased & stored this for 10 years in climate controlled atmosphere. Unfortunately, this wine was a disappointment for me.
Obviously showing its age in terms of color, bricking, scent and taste - it almost had a “tired” quality. Perhaps an off bottle? Maybe I just don’t like aged Italian wines (of which I have little experience)?
I’m planning to crack a 2015 soon from the same storage locker in hopes that I enjoy Sassicaia at an earlier age/stage - as I recall being the case for previous 2007s.

Decanted for 3 hours - perhaps needed longer - overall an elegant northern Médoc style reminiscent of say a GPL in 04 or 11. On this performance expensive but I note previous comparative tastings against Médoc first growths where it does better.

Unlike the 2006, which I had earlier this year, this was over it's peak I think. Still a good bottle of wine, but still having the 2006 in my mind, this was a bit of a disappointment, to be honest.

Pop and pour from a 375; a fair amount of fine sediment in the bottle. In the glass, pinkish-orange at the rim, shading to cherry/maroon at the core. On the nose, currants, blueberries, and a touch of freshly mown grass. On the palate, black currants, graphite, oak, and mouth-puckering tannins on the finish, with some persistent astringency from the attack through the finish that never fully resolved.

The table liked this better than me. I guessed new world merlot as it had a red fruited core and rather plump on the palate with integrated tannin. The more time I spent with it I just couldn't get past that it seemed to be mildly corked.

Medium ruby, fairly thick legs, and visible stain. Rosy florals, dried grass, medium ripe red cherry, thyme, rosemary, nutmeg, pepper, cloves, slight tar towards the backpalate, whilst having bright acids and soft tannins, somewhat high alcohol heat. Quite a lengthy finish, and complex with waves of florals and fruits. Nice!

Loving this. I was worried it might not be ready but it was drinking just beautifully - less floral than the older Sassicaias I've had but not in a bad way - a beautiful wine.
The wine looks ruby colored. There is light sediment in the bottle. It tastes like cedar and red currant. The body is medium/full. The wine finishes medium. The wine has medium acidity.

Decanted and aerated for 3 hours and drank over 2. Clearly makes a difference so the wine was blooming. Deep Ruby red with some translucency. Nose of beautiful macerated black cherries, dark red berries, spice, mocha. Very fine entry on the palate, mineral and feminine, medium bodied but super refined, perfumed cassis and berries, with tannins fully coated by the sweet raspberry milk chocolate and toffee long finish. Very pretty wine if I may say that without insulting the wine.

Fine Wines SG - Is Seña really that great? (Zoom): Deep garnet, with some fading. Viscous and highly extracted. A clearly Italian feel on the nose, with savoury herbs and spices. Some rounded tannins, but an intense feel, of paprika, ripe blackberry, coffee, herbs, vanilla, and chocolate. Good that the fruits are ripe, that contributed to the finish, which was fair

Sassicaia Vertical 2003-2015: All wines tasted blind alongside the matching vintage of Chateau Margaux (see separate tasting story). All Sassicaias show a soft structure and femininity I would rather associate with a right bank Merlot than with a left bank Cab, also the fruit profile was more red fruit driven, than dark fruit. All in all and especially compared to the Margauxs (average score 94.8) drunk alongside, the wines showed good although without exceptionalism (average score Sassicaia 92.1). It has not the stuffing, the complexity to play in the big league and the soft structure alone is not interesting enough. The tasting confirmed the impression I had before (6 vintages tasted before, only once (2001) scored 95 points or higher). Highest score (94 points) for the 2004, 2009 and 2013 with more upside for the 2013 in the future. The much lauded 2015 was rather disappointing (92 points) but probably just would have needed several hours in the decanter.
TN: Some smoke, leather and dark fruits on the nose. Medium+ expressive, fairly good precision. On the palate again more red fruit driven, some earthy and mineral notes. Highlight again the very fine structure and harmony but complexity is not very high here.

Margaux vs Sassicaia double vertical: Sassicaia vs Margaux face-off hosted by a private collector. I was surprised by the unambiguousness of the result in this 13- year (2003-2015) double vertical. Margaux beats Sassicaia 10x with Sassicaia on top only 3x. Of the 26 wines tasted, the top 6 (all scored 95 and higher) were all Margaux with 2009, 2010 and 2015 all somewhere between regal and galactic. In sum, the average score for Margaux was 94.4 (range 92-98) as compared to a Sassicaia average of 93.1 (range 92-94). See tasting story for a few more high level remarks.
Ripe, slightly darker red cherry fruit, some herbs, a bit of forest floor, wet leaves. Ripe and comparatively jammy. A slightly leathery palate, lots of intensity. Well structured with some mineral notes too. Top 3 of the Sassicaia line-up and in a pretty good spot.

Kleur: Medium robijnrood. Aroma / bouquet: Aangenaam bouquet. Mooie balans, lange afdronk. Algemeen / potentieel: Sassicaia stelde me nog nooit teleur maar blies me ook nooit van mijn sokken. 50 + Kleur: 5 + Aroma / bouquet: 9 + Smaak / Afdronk: 16 + Algemeen / potentieel: 8 = 88/100
Color: Medium ruby red. Aroma / bouquet: Pleasant bouquet. But even after aeration, this wine shows little of itself. Limited complexity. Taste / Aftertaste: Pleasant wine. Not sophisticated, not super complex but pleasant. Limited acidity, nicely aged tannins and not excessive with 13.5% alcohol. Nice balance, long finish. General / potential: Sassicaia never disappointed me, but never blew me off my socks. 50 + Color: 5 + Aroma / bouquet: 9 + Taste / Finish: 16 + General / potential: 8 = 88/100

Superbe.

From a half bottle. Tasted single blind in a flight of 12 Cabernet/Bordeaux blends, this stood out like a sore thumb. Way lighter in colour with a much softer nose of red fruit, I wasn't quite sure what to make of this. It was pruny, floral, leathery, and elegant, which really felt like Italy but not like Cabernet. I would have guessed Barolo blind. On the other hand, the Ornellaia was so austere, dark fruit, herbal, and complex, I was sure it was Bordeaux.
I ranked this wine 6/12 because it was tasty but wonder about the lack of varietal typicity. Unlike the other 11 wines, the Sassicaia seemed mature and not a wine I'd want to age any more. I've also had the 1997 and 1999 Sassicaia which seemed over the hill and not Cabernet like either. Is that really what Sassicaia is like?
Extra note: This was the first pour from a Coravin. It did not show well on a subsequent pour. I suspect it’s a bit of a fragile wine not benefiting from air or aging.

From a half bottle. The colour is dark ruby and fire red with minute bricking at the edge. On the nose, timid aromas of strawberries and incense. On the palate, wow! This is way too young - more so than the 2009 which led me to believe this might be approachable (as both were half bottles). Darn, should have gone with the Cos 2007 as planned! Anyhow, will see how it evolves over the next few hours. Regardless, there is a tightly wound ball of energy waiting to unfurl. In this ball, quite a bit of partially rounded tannin, and red and black fruit. The concentration is certainly good as is the length which is fairly impressive. Needs more time and air and hopefully I won't regret opening this one too much. Good, but only hinting at what is to come.
With two hours of air - added moist Autumn soil, plum, smoke, balsam wood
With five hours of air - Opened a bit more with more cabernet traits and a touch more oakyness, but never really improved all that much.
91 or 92 at this point. Clearly not the right time to open this and I'm rather underwhelmed.

Brought this to Vintage on Fifth, Crystal River ($15 corkage) to celebrate my birthday with Kerry. We gave this 45 minutes to breathe before our first glass, which was not nearly enough. A gorgeous, very youthful-looking, semi-opaque aubergine in color - right up to the edge. Initially very tight and austere on both the nose and palate. Only began to open up at the 60 minute mark. Took almost two hours to really show its best. At that point, the nose offered alluring scents of crushed dark fruits, Tuscan earth and a hint of lavender. The palate displayed the breathtaking elegance and understated power that makes Sassicaia so unique and exquisite. Just medium-bodied and deceptively soft on the front-palate, the wine begins to unfold into the mid-palate and then entirely saturates the back-palate with tangy, delicious plum, dark current and raspberry fruit. Notes of spice, mineral, coffee and a hint of sweet fruit linger on the beautifully refined finish. Goes on for over a minute. Impeccably balanced, with just a touch of oak and a moderate acidity. The velvety tannins are silky smooth and perfectly integrated. Quite expensive - but for a celebration or special occasion, it's worth every penny. 50+5+12+18+9=94

Great wine, had it some days ago and can't really remember all details. But bottom line is: excellent! Gained a lot 3-4 hours after decanting. Probably would wait another 2-4 years before opening the next bottle (I only opened it to see if I still love these wines before buying the 2014 sassicaia).

I would generously give this a 92, as my experience was disjointed and the wine seemed to be abandoned, unfinished and confused. You can taste the quality fruit, but it makes no statement and commitment to either being a high extract wine or a terroir driven wine. Stellar wine! Dark ruby color with a nose of cassis and violet. On the palate, the wine starts with a big burst of refined dark red fruits followed by dusty tannins and floral notes. Long finish. I love the integration of the tannins and fruit. Very well balanced wine. After a 45 minute decant the wine drank very well and continued to get better over the next 2 hours. There was no drop off in quality here. It's drinking well now with 1 hour decant but you could cellar this one for another 5 to 7 years without problem. In short, a great Sassicaia.

Pop & pour from a 375ml bottle. We probably did this wine a disservice by not decanting it and not allowing it to age longer in the bottle. This is still a very youthful & primary wine that needs time. Nevertheless, it is still a very well made wine. Very clean lines with a purity of fruit. This will warrant a higher score as it ages. My 91 point score is based on where it is currently in its evolution.

Loaded with fruit. Structured with perfect balance. This is a profound classy wine. Smokey with loads of blueberry and plumb fruit. It's so smooth like a silk sheet. Refined ripe tannin with tar and sour berry finish. Elegance in a glass. Decanted 4 hrs.
Popped and poured at the end of a long night, but only needed 15mins to unfurl in our glasses. Ready now. Frankly lacked the complexity or structure to suggest to me his will make very old bones. Nice now and for 5yrs but not the best vintage imho.

This wine is in a nice place right now, probably in it's secondary phase of maturity. Very complex and an abundance of flavors, very classical taste. I don't know why people would drink this past 2019. But that's just my opinion.

Prequel to Italy (Amali in NYC): Sassicaia's are always one of my favorite SuperTuscans. This one was YOUNG. Get some bell pepper, some spiciness, a lot of earth. Very little fruit, but might just have been the age. Really delicious, but not quite pulled together yet. Lots of evolution in the glass though. This wine started to come together over the 3 or so hours it was open. Would still wait more years before opening a bottle.

Limited notes from brief pre-auction tasting. From decanter. Not sure how much air time it had been given. Nose quite open and expressive, with aromas of balsamic, ripe dark fruit, blackcurrant, smoky oak. On the palate, less expressive, but still more approachable than what I expected for its age. Blackcurrant, dark cherry, graphite, and just a touch of herbs. Very refined, but feels a bit thin and austere towards the finish - I think its just a matter of time. Give this another 5+ years to blossom nicely.

Massive !! shame to say I can't post accurate notes as this was the 5th bottle of the night (between 5) and things were getting a bit shady… However what surprised me most was the youth and vibrancy … full bodied and fruity still, tannins are so fine… no dryness which I have had before from a Sass.. Brilliant.. sadly only 1 bottle remains…this was infanticide for sure. Also the highest rating I have given on ct.

Mostly reticent nose of dark red and black fruits and vanilla. There is good, concentrated and complex fruit and structure here, but sadly overshadowed by the vanilla impressions from the oak. It's really a struggle to taste and experience the great material underneath, though it may come together with more time. Medium plus in body. Tannins and finish are medium plus. Would recommend holding another 5-10 years.

Weekly tasting group #118; Italy: Bolgheri (@ CvR): A lot of smoke, toasted oak, dark forest fruits and also a pleasant touch of barnyard in the bouquet. On the palate beautifully ripe red and dark forest fruits, chocolate, sweet spices, soft acidity, tannin and bitterness in a beautiful harmony. Extremely harmonious and luxurious wine. Tenuta San Guido Sassicaia Masterclass with Greg Sherwood MW (Handford Wines, London): A beautiful and elegant , albeit young, nose greets you. Beautiful nose, fresh, with a touch of dark fruits and a smoky edge. Ripe fruit, good acidity, Caramel edge. The 2007 Tenuta San Guido Bolgheri Sassicaia Sassicaia is medium purple in colour with a sweet nose of prunes, juicy black currants, purple berries and Chinese herbs.
Very soft and round entry of sweetness; predominantly prunes, juicy black currants before a midpalate of herbs follows backed with consistent blueberries. Velvety texture of tannins. "Fluffy" and pleasant. Very focused in style despite its softness and broadness that coats the palate. Overall elegant and balanced, deceiving one to think it may be rather "thin", but in fact, its a wine that is rather refined in nature.
Quite a bit of sediments for its age!

Baby-snatching again, I guess. I'm embarrassed to say that we popped and poured... hence, with aeration, expect a higher score.
While the nose is somewhat muted, what is evident are rich deep currants along with barrel toast, and cinnamon. On the palette, the wine has a rounded texture, with layers of flavors. The tannins are ripe and help frame the structure of the wine. Black currants and blueberries are intermixed in perfect harmony.
Take another look at this in 3 - 5 years from now. This wine can only further improve in the short to medium term.

Decanted for 1-2 hours then returned to bottle for 2 more. Beautiful lush fruit nice balance and a long smooth finish. I am amazed how well this young Sass is drinking.

Drank from a 375ml bottle at 8 1/2 Otto E Mezzo in Hong Kong. I thought this was a very nice wine -- rich and concentrated but elegant at the same time . However, I would never buy this again -- it's just far too expensive for what it is, in my opinion.

Good potential--too early to drink. Agreeable but only a shadow of what it could be. Should be much better in 3+ years. Subtle cabernet s...not overpowering but deep and smooth. Lacked complexity.

Cherry nose , red fruit , in the palate the acidity is predominant and also the tannins need time to round. Medium to full bodied , long finish. Needs 3/4 years more in the cellar

Monday Wine Club (BYOB at Hawksmoor) (Hawksmoor Air Street): Wow. Silky smooth, great balance, and great fruit. Seamless, this should age gracefully, but to be honest, was drinking so well already. Great with the steak. My WOTN, and WOTN for the majority of the party of 8. The smoothness is the lasting memory, really remarkable. 95+
Sassicaia! (Roma - Hilton Cavalieri): The climate season was regular. Strange vintage, different from the others. Iron powder and wet soil at the beginning, iodine. Coherent at taste, with a lond mineral finish. ***
JAN 12 Deep ruby, elegant and layered nose of cassis, plums, coffee and spices. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, elegant if somewhat leaner style Sassicaia, good length. 90

Lots of tart cherries and sour cherry on the nose that gives way to a smokey and dry finish. The wine is full of acid and needed many hours of decanting to come around. Its hard to say if this vintage will ever come around but I will wait a few more years and taste again

Maybe too young to drink, oak is well present. Very elegant nose, red fruits and vanilla. On the palate soft tannins, again (unripe?) red fruits, medium bodied. Good length. A fair bottle, but not the best one.

Wonderful cherry nose, along with black fruit and vanilla. Palate continued with cherries, black fruit, and a dash of pepper. Super smooth tannins. Massive finish. Great now, a few more years and it will be phenomenal.

Tasted blind. Mild aromas of tart red berries and spices with hints of tobacco. Flavors are of sour cherry and cranberry with red currant supported by a light woodiness. High acidity and mild tannins suggest this will improve with some cellar time, but not all that much. Disappointing.

I have had this wine twice since my last post a year ago. This is not closing down. Sweet fruit lush and forward for Sassicaia. The tannins and structure are there but not obtrusive. Give it time to open(8 hours slow o). Scored 2+ cases on release at the SAQ for $139. Going to pop one tonight to bring in 2012. 96+...

No rating right now. I'm not sure what everyone else is tasting with great ratings on this wine, but my first bottle was enormously primary with tons of powerful vanilla oak that was very hard to penetrate. It's Vanilla Ice. Ice Ice Baby. Note to self: wait on rest of bottles until at least 2020.

Hard to really enjoy this one so young with the oak still very prominent and yet to integrate with the rest of the flavours. There's a powerful core of red and dark fruits, faint floral and spicy scents that emerge with some air, but a powerful oaky patina on top of everything right now. Needs a lot of time.

Producer Tasting. Pink rim, dark red cote. Young red fruit on the nose. Cooked cherry, slight vanilla, etc. Very structured, nice acidity. Very long and lingering finish. Add 10 years, but very nice now!!

Opened together with 01' Ch. Pavie and 97' Ch. Mouton at Palace Hotel, Lucern, Switzerland. Intense vanilla nose and aroma, very distinct. Freshness. Very smooth and well-balanced with food. Tannin showed up after 30 min, long finish with elegance. Hold very well during 2 hour dinner. 1st-growth quality. Very good value.

15/9 opened a 2007 and the first impression when opening was amazing. I decanted and immediately after that tried it. Wauw. However 30 min's later it had lost already some splendor and 1 hour later is was dull. Still good but nothing to do with the first impression. Next bottle drink faster after opening and try to decant only half to compare

Recent Sassicaia vintages have left me startled on a few occasions, including the 2007. Granted this is far too young to be drunk at this stage, but having said that straight out of the decanter this was open with a powerful bouquet of elderflower, cherry, and ripe fruit; a bomb. The quality of the tannins was superb and besides the 2006 vintage I am looking to add more stock for this one to my cellar. It was the evening's favourite hands down.

FEB 11 Second bottle, this was decanted and that really opened it up. Ruby, floral, elegant, red berries, blueberries, perfumed, some Mediterranian herbs. Feels very pure and elegant, with some sweet notes behind. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, beautifull texture, long, elegant, a beauty. 94

the plus of this wine right now are nose and length. dark, inky colour. classy and intense nose of dark fruits with wood. very lush and concentrated (opulent nearly) on palate - cassis, violet and blackcurrant. long finish with a hint of menthol. I kept changing my mind over the night on this - between this being a bit "too much" and not having the full sassicaia characterictics (i.e. could be from anywhere) but then also being captivated by its lushness and thinking/hoping that it's only 4 and it may settle down and deliver more interestingly on the non-fruit side with time. overall I have to say I find the 2005 a more interesting drink right now but the 2007 will perhaps be more interesting to follow.

Rich and complex nose upon opening, wafting strong and concentrated dark fruit notes, with a pronounced fig component. These elements tapered off after four hours in the decanter, and we were left with a more refined and subdued nose with wood and earth elements. The palate is where this wine shined, exhibiting great structure and layered complexity. I concur with other posts - this wine is drinking very well now. Inherent notes included cola, ash and smoke, meat, and some green veg. Cedar and wood notes began to show with exposure. As expected this was a very enjoyable wine, and is showing quite well right now.

Starting opening up 30 minutes after decanting. Drank after 2 hours. Medium body. Balanced with a long finish for age. Thoroughly enjoyable. Not so much as exciting as elegant. Not clear if there is structure to develop more.

Icon Sampling (The Sampler, London): Key memory here is how forward this wine is. Lush smooth very nice and can be enjoyed in it's youth and reminds us of a leaner yet more elegant 2003 that was easy drinking young. Lacks the superwine structure and depth but still very nice and enjoyable. Especially when the wood fully assimilates this would be very nice. Dnt overpay the name in this case though, if you are after that buy the solaia 2007. 93

First, I must say that I almost got scared off by some of the negative reviews here. While there are different strokes for different folks, I just don't see how this wine is anything but stellar. I drank this wine with someone with an experienced palate and exposure to many great wines. I have also consumed some great stuff over the years.
Bottom line ---- true harmony. Everything is in the right place right now. Maybe people are upset by the fact that this is not going to age, but can't we just accept a wine for what it is? This one is a 13.5% percent beauty that is drinking right now like a late 80s first growth. Fruit and earth all in the right places. Nothing is over done or over bearing.
I taste a ton of wine, but rarely write reviews. I felt compelled to write about this one.
In my opinion, you will not be disappointed with this wine. It is firing right now and I am not sure how you find flaws here.

Served blind and opened the night before. Nose slightly closed with a touch of funky oak and currants. Palate of medium body, fine tannins, obvious strong winemaking and pedigree. Raspberry and cherries on the palate finishes with medium length nice mineral note. Surprisingly forward and accessible, though still tannic. Guessed Super-Tuscan, but was very surprised it was Sassicaia. Liked the ’06 much more. Certainly not worth $150+.

The Ultimate Wine Experience (Binny's South Loop - Chicago, IL): Indian curry spice on the nose, leather, cigar, classic New World styled but still touches of earth elements in the style of the nose. Lengthy on the nose and palate. Gorgeous wine. Spicy with some barn yard flavors. Definitely has that "deliciousness" factor I adore. This can only get better as it's so so young. Give it a 6 hour decant at least if drinking today.

Released May-June 2010. Limpid red. Very fine on the nose - lifted, fresh and finely knit fabric of red fruit, notably currants and cherries. Again, leaves an impression of fine integrity on the palate with fresh red fruit flavours, balanced acidity, mineral and spicy nuances. A classical expression. Tasted at the producer.

Dark color with lovely dark berry flavors. Quite sleek and balanced and delicious tonight but doesn't seem to possess a structure to age or become that complex. A lovely wine but hard to compare to older vintages which seem more built for aging.

Retailer tasting (@ vdH): Beautiful and complex bouquet with red and black fruits, some spiciness and luxurious oak. The wine does not seem to be extremely concentrated, but is very elegant. Everything is in the right place with good fruits, tannin, acidity and bitterness. At this moment I was not extremely impressed, but the bottle was popped and poured. Needs some years to show its real complexity. My score for the moment is 94, but there is room for more.

Every once in a while a wine comes along and says "I am not what you think I am, I am so much more, so much better than the pigeonhole you have put me in". This for me was the Sassicaia I tasted at the Osteria San Guido near the winery. Like Yiannis this was the highlight of my tastings in Tuscany. Deep red, pink rim. Simply fascinating nose: herbaceous, peppers, pencil lead which softly softly opened up to reveal the fruit treasure within, berries, cassis, plums followed by cedar and ink. Light - medium body (or so it seemed) and lovely smooth mouthfeel, constantly evolving - what the Greeks call "paixnidiariko". Sweet and seemingly soft tannins, refreshing yet seemingly soft acidity and concentrated fruit. Sweet spice tinged with herbs on the palate. Fantastic length. Simply wonderful. Like "Autumn Leaves" by Coldcut, Irresistible Force Mix...

Drank at L' Osteria San Guido, Bolgheri. With this masterpiece closing the magnifficent trio in the best possible way, I can frankly say that my visit to Sassicaia and the wine-tasting at the nearby tavern was the highlight of my Tuscany experience. This wine is still a baby and will need at least 8-10 years to start showing its real class, but has the unmistakeable signs of a future masterpiece. Incredibly complex with ink, cedar, tar and graphite, mid+ bodied and elegant with very firm but fine-grained tanins, high acidity and a nearly endless finish. A future star in its infancy...

Just a slight sense of heat coming through on the finish that wasn’t there when opened six hours previously. On reflection is more VA than heat. Just a little too high toned for comfort. That said, still lots here, but would have been better without the extended airing. ****

Medium ruby, fairly thick legs, and visible stain. Rosy florals, dried grass, medium ripe red cherry, thyme, rosemary, nutmeg, pepper, cloves, slight tar towards the backpalate, whilst having bright acids and soft tannins, somewhat high alcohol heat. Quite a lengthy finish, and complex with waves of florals and fruits. Nice!

En bouche, bel équilibre et complexité.

It was the evening's favourite hands down.

the plus of this wine right now are nose and length. dark, inky colour. classy and intense nose of dark fruits with wood. very lush and concentrated (opulent nearly) on palate - cassis, violet and blackcurrant. long finish with a hint of menthol.
