  • 200 Burgundy Grand Crus from vintage 2000, 4-day blind tasting (Singapore): Dark cherry and sour cherry aromas. Rich and tannic, finishing drying. Deduct points for tannins, precise otherwise. The RSVs did not show as well as the Richebourgs in this tasting.

  • This bottle was back on form! Everythig u love abt burgundy. And the flowers in this blossomed nicely in the mouth. Superbly perfumed and elegant display of dainty red fruits and svelte tannins. Silky smooth wine.

  • December Birthdays (My Little Spanish Place): Good, but after two smashing bottles of the same, this was rather a disappointment. I liked it quite a bit more than many of the others around the table, at least identifying it as a Vosne while some called it a Rhone! However, I must say it was a far cry from the last two experiences. This still had wonderful nose befitting its terroir, with deep earthy undergrowth notes, a whiff of damp tobacco leaf, leathery hints, some dried flowers and a sprinkle of spice over depths of dark fruited aromas. A very rich, very warm bouquet, hence the Rhone guesses maybe, but this was very nice. The palate was not quite the Grand Cru experience you would expect after a nice like that though. It opened prettily enough, with a little waft of roses and then some exotic Indian spices like cardammon and cloves dancing over darker flavours of ripe dark cherries, blackberries and ripe strawberries. There was lots of depth, plenty of acidity and a firmish pucker of dusty tannins that met the fruit on the midpalate. The finish had a nicely sweet linger of flower, wood spice and dark cherry. Yummy, but it somehow seemed to lack some presence and energy at the very end. Gone to was the bright purity lacing the big fruit that so charmed by the last two times. Bottle variation maybe, but this was a far cry from the excellence of the past two bottles.

  • Red fruits, raspberries and red flowers. Fresh red cherries, candy, strawberries. Not a long finish. Feels kinda tired. Nothing like the previous bottle I had.

  • Charity Event for Lee Ah Mooi Old Aged Home (My Little Spanish Place): Opened for about 45 minutes before I got to it, this kept evolving in the glass, so that it divided opinions amongst those of us who tasted it at different times. I thought it was excellent though, a wine that was both impressive and interesting - a real Grand Cru experience. It had a very expressive nose for a start. Rather overly woody at first, but this subsided with time and melded into a deep, rich, seductive melange of dark cherry and blackberry aromas, lush undergrowth notes lined with seams of metallic mineral, doses of Vosne wood spice and vine stems and, finally, a lovely perfumy waft of fresh cut flowers. Lovely, conplex stuff. There was just a hit of glycerol in there somewhere, but barely enough to disturb the overall package. After that bouquet, the palate came across as still being very young and slightly awkward on first blush. There was clearly Grand Cru depth and length, and this was wed to surprisingly fresh, almost zippy acidity that caused the wine to almost dance across the mouth with a lovely amount of energy. Very surprising for a 2000 on that count. This was accompanied by some wonderfully delicious, rather pure flavours of dark cherries and strawberries that tumbled out of the glass on the attack and layered the midpalate with a soild show of depth. for all that though, I could not get past the feeling that there was just so much hidden behind that, just waiting for time to draw out. Not to say that this was exceptionally tight or unyielding - there was certainly complexity even now, with little bits of orange peel, smoky wood spice, earth, mineral and flowers floating like a halo around the core of more pirmary fruit, all making for an absolutely pleasurable drink. It was just that there was something a bit gawky and shy behind that, like a young girl caught in the moment between slightly surly, awkward adolescence and beautiful mature womanhood. All in all though, this was a lovely wine, with each sip calling out for another - delicious enough so that I could not keep my hands off the glass. No harm drinking it now I would say, but it was such a nice bottle that it really deserves a lot more time in the cellar - a decade or so before peak maybe.

  • A bit distorted and not well integrated. Rusty iron with ferrous cherry fruits. A bit disappointing.

  • Vosne Romanee vs Chambolle Musigny (Zeffir): Tulips and violets, pretty nose, perfumed, dried flowers and rose. Fresh, vibrant raspberries, cherries and sweet red fruits. Very fresh feel on the palate, fruits showing well, nice elegant finish. Classy.

  • Two bottles tonight with some friends. Both bottles perfect. Second one was decanted - this wine definitely needs some air before you drink it (the first bottle we aired in the glass, the second was an unexpected opening and we needed it to get a head start). Great fruit, great length, lovely wine.

  • I've tasted this a few times and each bottle has been different - variously more or less farmyard/herbaceous in style, even a bit of damp grass in one. This is the best of the case fo are - all fruit (red cherries), very together and getting silky. I hope the rest of the case are more like this.

  • The last bottle was all farm. This one, showing the inevitable variation in a case of burgundy (it may be me but that variation seems more present in the 2000), is all fruit. It's a little flat on the nose, and when opened flat on the mouth too. But it develops nicely. Worth opening early and maybe even decanting for an hour. 6 more to go.

  • Saturday night is Burg Night with Charlie and Edson (Maison MacKay): We opened this up at around 9pm but barely made a dent in it so the bulk was consumed after about 20 hours and that bit of slow oxygenation had very little, if any, affect on the wine. Very expressive nose with a bit of gaminess mixed with some clove, anise and moist soil. Not the mind blowing nose of the young DRC that was also opened that night but very nice in it's own way. Soft and subtle on the palate and very easy to quaff this one if you wanted to but take some time to the finish, which lasts for quite some time. On one hand I'd like to see a little more oomph at midpalate but on the flipside, I appreciate the subtleties.

  • halfway through a case of this. Each bottle has been different. This one was more farm than fruit. A beautiful deep red, a little tart and great length. I'll update the notes as I go through the rest of the case

  • Allen Meadows was enthousiastic about a barrel sample, but questioned its balance and durability. There seems to be just a touch too much new oak and this is evident from the dry woody notes on the nose and particularly the finish. Has length, subtlety and dimensions (roses, spices) but the exotic, magical RSV fruit is gone and this leaves the wine rather skinny, in spite of a certain warmth on the nose. Shows traces of its pedigree (the reserved character, hints of heavenly fragrance), but the delicate finesse seems to have succumbed to heavy-handed winemaking. On the second day (double decanted) very stable, cold tea on the nose, but still a lack of fruit, on the palate a hint of the flair and swagger of a true RSV, but the finish remains dominated by dry wood. A shadow - you only see the contours.

  • This is simply stunning and steal the show among all the red wine. 2notches up compare to the Echezeaux. While the nose is not as expressive as the Echezeaux, it show better depth. Broad, wide nose of seductive VR spices- anise, cloves, fragrance with rich dark Pinot fruits core that is creamy, and polished. The refreshing palate show that this is a wine that flirt with finesse and harmony. Super creamy mouth feel with layer and layer of lush, sweet dark Pinot fruits that is so pure and charming along with seductive, refined VR spices and violet that quickly fill up the mouth. The polished structure is buried under the silky fine tannin, fine acid spine and huge dry extract which resulted in very smooth mouth feel, elegance texture that flow on to the persistent long finishing with spices and mineral nuances. A top notch RSV. Buy - Yes.

  • Unquestionably great. Unless you drink it next to Leroy's version from the same vintage. In which case it tastes like moldy onions.

  • Dujac City - Burgundy Fest (Waterford Wine Co. Tasting Room): Tart cherries on the nose. Next to the Leroy, this smells older and taking on secondary characteristics of leather and dried fruits.
Firm and strong tannins still with tart cherries and a long fresh finish.
A remarkable wine that unfortunately is completely outshone by the 2000 Leroy.

  • Paul's 30th Birthday; 4/10/2010-4/12/2010 (Imperial Treasure Super Peking Duck Restaurant): Showing much more age than the 01 Follin RSV even though only 1 year apart . This , at first, was more forthcoming and appealing with burgundian funkyness, earth, spiced sandalwood and mushrooms. Old world and rustic. Definitely opened for business on the palate as well. Pretty lightish on the palate with nice unobtrusive clean stewed fruits. Pretty florals and small light red berries glacing the palate. Drinking well now and would do so for the next few years. A pity the finish couldnt have been longer to enjoy.

  • some age on nose and palate. rustic and heavier than the other RSV tasted this night. Quite a driven wine, with some tea, earth and spices coming into the mix. Good classic fruit finish.
Liked this but not great. bit too much hype (for an RSV) that led to great expectations.

  • Hitting the Big 3-0. (Imperial Treasure Super Peking Duck, Paragon): Beautiful, but just paled a little in comparison to the 2001 Follin-Arbelet RSV. Very different wines though. While the later was all feminine elegance wed to fine structure, this was more down-to-earth charm. Every bit as attractive, if just that little less refined. Gorgeous nose, got my writing "woah!" in my notes. Earth and leather scents were paired with deep tones of dark cherries, flowers, orange peel, a dusting of toasty cocoa and anise-led Vosne spiciness. Super balance on the palate, especially for a 2000, with fresh acidity and firm, but beautifully resolved tannins forming a wonderful backdrop to complex high-toned flavours of dark cherries, orange peel and more of that lovely spice, along with lower, bassy notes of earth and leather. Finish was long, open and seductive, with a silky glide of flowers and a linger of tobacco and cocoa powder. It was here that the wine seemed the most feminine. A lovely experience. Perfectly open for drinking now, especially with a short time to sit in the glass.

  • Very impressive showing, this wine is absolutely at peak, and is very expressive of the terroir. Roses, dirt, and Vosne spice. Quite soft, absolutely at peak.

  • The fruit is still fresh; an elegant, complex wine with good depth of flavour, attractive acidity and good length. We preferred this to Alain Hudelot-Nöellat's 1998 RSV drunk a couple of days ago (although there was nothing wrong with that).

  • Soaring nose of spice, fruit and earth with what seems to be stem influence (does Potel bring in the unfinished wine or just grapes? Am I just imagining the stem influence?) on both the nose and palate. Earthy, spicy red to somewhat darker fruit - not as lacking in acidity as some 2000s but not quite as silky as I'd hoped though not a lot of structure. Really excellent, though.

  • Peter Pratt's 2009 Cali Cab Table (Yorktown, NY): I was glad to get a taste of this. Nice, with a lot of fruit, without being crazy jammy. I liked it.

  • A beauty. Supple and seamless, the kind of wine that seems to pamper the palate. And very interesting to compare to the DRC since this one actually shows better today.

  • Sandalwood, spice, bright and lively red fruits. Shows well over a period of hours, sorry this was my only bottle. A-

  • Now this is more like it... similar to the Grands Echezeaux but with more of everything. Richer palate, deeper nose. Very enjoyable, but not on par with RSV's from DRC, Leroy, etc. This is good now, but I don't think it's in quite the same danger of fading as the Grands Echezeaux. B

  • Drunk alongside the H-N CV99, what was striking was how similar they were - both rich and spicy, though this was higher toned, with a minty streak and some black cherry fruit - lighter and fresher than the CV - both very nice without being exciting

  • Rich, round, full flavoured and just about mature; this has flavours of raspberries, cherries and blackberries, and a soft, silky texture; very well rounded, slightly sweet and not too acidic; a very fine example.
