Clear light red with browning. Aged red berry, thyme, nutmeg and warm earth nose. Dry fading nutmeg and berry flavours and a dry resolved finish.
This wine drank very nicely and held together in the glass. A wine that has been through an identity crisis. Name changes, spelling changes ( this bottle was spelt ROQUETTE) and switched vineyards with Piedlong. At this point it was it’s own domaine. That changed soon after.

Brick colour, but quite translucent, almost Burgundy-like. Nose still predominantly cherries, forest floor and Eucalyptus. In mouth the sweetness first hits you, tannins now softened, and then the richness and roundness of a mature CNdP. Agree with the last review - this has definitely improved with age (and more so with air-time - after an hour in decanter even better). Lovely accompaniment to a hearty winter lamb hot-pot !

Wonderful CNdP! Mature notes of Syrah, Grenache, loads of garrigue-ness (is that even a word?!) spread across a smooth balanced wine of finesse, depth and length. Bottle did not make it past dinner.....
To those earlier reviewers who said this was shot - check your storage conditions. At nearly 20 years this wine was drinking very very well.

Agree with prior comments that this was clearly past it's prime, but drinkable nonetheless. Opened alongside a 97. Light, and in contrast to the 1997, more earthy and sweet but otherwise plain.

Pretty awful, obviously gone, not corked. Flat and unpleasant on opening. Astringent and horrible after 30-60 minutes decanting. Hopefully wont spoil the gravy.

overripe and unpleasant. this wine is perhaps the worst Brunier wine i have ever tasted. should have been drunk by 2004 when i unfortunately had the first bottle out of my two cases.

Not bad but a bit one dimensional. May have waited too long? Opened two and the first was undrinkable. 98 CDP's seem to be showing a lot of bottle variation as we wind down what was once a large stash.

Lightened up considerably in color. Thick legs. Nose open, simple, slight oxidization. Shoe polish. Briary like pipe tobacco, on the sweet side. Waited too long to drink. 4-7-10-3: 74/100.

The cork showed a seam of wine running up the side, which indicated that some air had made it in the bottle. The wine was brownish but we hoped the best. After two hours of decanting the musty smell would not go away. We ended up tossing it.

reading tasting notes from the pros and other members reminds me of the five blind men who were asked to describe an elephant after touching one part of the anatomy.
shared this bottle with pat at selkirk manor.
i don't recall what prompted this purchase since i have not delved deeply into the study of CndP until recently. the wine must have received high praise shortly after release.
at this point, i am most grateful to have stumbled across this bottle. this wine has reached maturity, as my french professor used to say, "en etat de grace". the wine is smooth as silk with all components fully integrated. generous nose, luscious in the mouth. moderately long finish. great complexity with multiple taste nuances. in addition to dark fruit flavors, there is game meat and earth. this is the kind of wine that makes one yearn for more. can't wait to delve more deeply into the wines of this region.

The wine looks Brick colored, with slow legs. Fairly complex bouquet of Cherry, Dust, Forest floor, Eucalyptus, and Mint, with just a hint of ethanol. In mouth, tannin somewhat overwhelming on first glass (about 20 minutes after decanting), slightly softer after an hour, dusty and somewhat medicinal (as Jancis says), but also hints of Cinnamon and herbs de Provence. Medium/Full bodied, fleshy texture and a medium/long finish (30 seconds +).

Light to medium red with pale edges. Lots of meat, raspberry, cherry and spice in a very aromatic, intense nose. Soft red fruit and vanilla flavours. A very soft delicate finish. This bottle was the best 98 Roquette I've had. On this day excellent.
BTW where did the second "T" go?

bouquet of earth and mushrooms, almost like an epoisses. hints of black cherry and licorice. tastes of plum and cherry, with some surprising brightness left. finish of black olives. second day saw the nose pick up more of cedar and fig, with matching flavors.

Very mature and quite one dimensional with leather and olives. My wife liked it better and thought it was like port. I have had this wine many times and there has been great bottle variation.

Medium red., clear. Ashpalt, leather and muted raspberry and strawberry. Slight white pepper and seet flavours. Soft finish. A lighter 98, still good but on it's way down I think.
So somewhere around 98 the Bruniers decided to change the spelling and drop one of the Ts.

Loads of mint, tobacco, garrigue and black olives on the nose and palate. Within the first hour this reminded me of the 1998 Vieux Telegraphe but as more time passed the fruit seemed to fade lot here and I was left with an impression that maybe this is at peak or past peak. It's a quite nice, mature Chateauneuf but it's not a great wine. I'll try to drink my remaining bottles over the next 3-5 years.

This was excellent right after release, I remember tasting it in the wineshop close to the ruin at the Popes palace. I bought several bottles but after some time they lost their glory. But today it was again outstanding. Spicy with strawberry, but it is the balance between fruit and acidity that makes it so good. It is full-bodied with plenty off CNDP character, but is at the same time special and just so juicy. Love it.

Second of two bottles. Strong, overwhelming nose of licorice and berries matches its strong finish. Even at 10 years old, very tannic. After decanting it for an hour and a half, it finally began to smooth out. Wish I'd left this in the cellar another couple of years.

Nose reminiscent of a mature Chateauneuf with some five-spice powder, but really nothing much else to add complexity. Basic red fruit palate with some minor herbal character. Started tasting oxidized after opened for 30 minutes. Sadly, I don't think this is improving. I agree with the bulk of the previous notes. Time to drink up.

Xmas Dinner with Deni DeYonker, Jen, Linda & Tash: Red fruit, plum and herbs ... but utterly dwarfed by the Clarendon Hills Grenache 2001 (an unfair comparison). This bottle had declined a bit, since August 2006. Although we still enjoyed it (especially our friend Deni DeYonker). Drink up. Our last bottle.

BBQ With Linda, Deni, Jen & I. Some initial funky notes on opening blew off to reveal a lovely wine, with black fruit, current, plum and herbal notes on the finish. Lighter than it was a couple of years ago (which I also liked), but still good. I don't think this bottle will make it until 2012 (Parker) -- but it was delicious w. our bbq tonight. Drink NOW!

Drinking beautifully now. Bright garnet tending to brick around the eges in color. It was funky on first opening, and I thought it may have been corked. Sat it open in the bottle for a little over an hour (didn't even decant) and it opened up beautifully to a spicy red currant and grilled bread and herbs flavor. Special.

(no formal notes) - Quite a contrast to Les Origines. This wine is perfect now. There is a mellow ruby/brick color followed by a distinct plum and red berry nose. There is an herb/grass nuance, as well. This is very light on its feet, and while no where near profound, it is delicious and satisfying. Not one for the judges, but an excellent accompaniment for dinner. This is a much better bottle than I remember. (15)
