Hint of dried red fruit, tea leaves, ginger flower and sous bois. Fruit was quite loose, and on the edge of fading. Still showed that regalness as a package. Thought it was a 82 or 86 DRC Ech in a semi-blind Echezeaux dinner. 91-92

Last bottle. Christmas dinner with magret de canard. Better than the bottle I drank last month. Still beginning to fade but retains the complexity and vibrance you expect from DRC.

Lunch + playdate at M+M (M+M. Robin Road): A charmingly mature wine - the nose had a nice blush of sweet red cherries, dried berries, forestry earth, meat, and a blush of whole cluster herbs and spice, even a touch of fresh cut flowers. A truly lovely nose. The palate was a couple of steps behind though. Nice and cool, with a fine structure of grippy tannins and really bright, citrusy acidity, but these framed a mouthful of rather disappointingly lean flavours of red berries and cherries, all seasoned with a nice blush of dried earth, tea leaves and some toasty spice. Charming and lively, with a lovely definition and cut to it, but even given the weaker vintage, this drank more like a 1er Cru than a Grand Cru. Fading perhaps. Still very enjoyable, but time to drink up.

ChrisD's 40th: The nose is wonderful - earthy, five spice, forest floor, licorice and violets - beautifully pretty and complex at the same time. I really like the palate as well, there is youthful character still present, with lifted red fruits and fine but structured tannins. Has depth and texture to the fruit. In superb condition, this was immensely impressive.

Pale brick red, almost clear edges. Large bq w smoke, overripe strawberries, some sous bois, sloe. Prominent acidity, full-bodied, nice ripe tannins, still plenty of fruit (dried strawberries, cherries). Long, complex, alcoholic, slightly astringent aftertaste. Lovely with the food (fillet of reindeer). Old? - yes, but still a long way from the graveyard. Very, very good for the vintage!

Dinner at Eric's with Roland and Mr. Y: tight and restrained nose to start with. a lot more expressive after decanting. lovely nose of sweet earth and dark fruits. doesn't have the richness or complexity of better vintages but still very enjoyable.

Third of three Red Burgundy tasted, lovely rich brick red color in the glass, nose of sweet/sour cherry fruit, more of the same on the palate, sour cherry flavor was overwhelming for me, opened slowly on the nose, great viscosity and legs in the glass, too much acid for me.

a pleasant surprise given low wine level. some good secondary flavours. a little lean towards the end but very drinkable.

Dinner with Julian/Ada, Alex, David, Arthur/Andrea, Gary (The Principal): less refined and more sous bois than 85 but certainly no pushover. excellent showing given mediocre vintage.
