This is much richer fruited than typical Rancia but it keeps enough tangy Tuscan acidity and tannic backbone to be a highly enjoyable pairing for a stew of lamb and courgettes. Very good.

This was ok with grilled italian sausage, but I haven’t been wowed by the 07 Rancia or Fontalloro. It comes across as rich, and somewhat awkward. This was popped and poured so maybe it would have shown better with some air. I have a couple more bottles that I may forget about for a while.

My last 07 and it was clumsy and awkward. Big, black fruited (black plums, black cherries), leather, mushrooms, earth, pine/forest. My wife called it and said this doesn't even look or taste like chianti.
Fairly dark red. Dark fruit, forest floor and earthy dried mushrooms. Dry plum and black cherry flavours and a slightly rich finish.
Not as Chiantilike as either an 06 del Sorbo or Monsanto Piaggio served after or an 07 Fontalloro earlier in the year. I will always prefer Fontalloro to the Rancia I am afraid.

An embarrassment of steak riches (Chez G): at this stage of proceedings it’s hardly fair to be making any sort of call. This was lovely though - reminded me of one of my earliest wine experiences having a bottle of 1998 (?) fonterutoli at Chez Bruce - I spent some time trying to recapture that joy but after kissing a lot of frogs. ended up finding the cherry sourness got in the way of the pleasure. This wine seemed to be lovely, bringing back that long lost pleasure. Maybe it’s time to revisit Chianti…

Coop's bottle. In a great place right now with bright fuit and secondary development only in nascent stages. Dark fruits with iron, tobacco and a hint of anise in the nose. Decanted but needed more time. Nonetheless, excellent.

Vinetasters: Sangiovese (Park Ridge, IL): Served double blind. Dark and plummy, but also with a nice touch of black cherry. Tannic and young, with fresh fruit and no distracting oxidative elements here. The tannins don't feel as refined; they come off a little bit tannic right now.

Agree with many of the other recent notes about being in a great place, still youthful, but beginning to mature. Have one left and will drink in the next year or two.

Dekantert 1 t. Bra lengde. Har fatpreg i finish. Noe tørr og treaktig enda. Men mye bedre enn 2006! Noe som er litt overraskende. Vil glatt holde i 5 år til.

In a great place right now. it is integrated, has started to move into those mature notes with some earthiness and leather notes but still holding on to fruit and holds up to food well. paired with bolognese and it was a great match. this is the spot you want to drink Rancia at. feels like it should hold here for a nice long time.

Epic improvement in this bottle from the last time I noted it over seven years ago, it has fully developed and integrated as hoped for, with an amazing nose and palate filled with forest notes, spice, deep cherry. The mouthfeel is excellent, with a lot of nuance going on.

Eight years later, this Chianti has mellowed with the fruit perfectly integrated with the more distinct notes of earth and forest floor. Super smooth and at the same time, delicious vibrant dark cherry fruit. Drinking beautifully right now…patience here has paid off.

Very deep garnet to mahogany rim with a bouquet of fly spray, old leather furniture, church pews, liquorice bark, spice, rye bread, black fruit over red and that dusty, dry attic. A deep, penetrating wine, this wine is wonderfully complex and layered with that interplay of dry, edgy earthy core against its sour dried cherry and yet sweet fruit on the mid-palate, all balanced with a strident acidity. At first, it seemed extracted, but as it settled in the decanter, the wine is just bone dry with puckering, compact tannins (even at 14 years old). The fruit has that compote sweetness that rides on top of the tannic structure really well and extends to a long farewell. However, the tannins do still build on this medium-bodied lithe Chianti so it was slightly distracting but perhaps it is still on its journey. Certainly, the fruit is captivating with cherrry, black olive, pumpernickel, dried earth and caraway seed.

Crimson in color. 14.1% ABV. Super nose of red and black fruits, asphalt, iron and flowers. Medium to full bodied with perfect acidity. Lush, rich and fresh with an appealing rusticity. Black cherry, blood, anise and plums on the palate. Exceptional length on the finish. This wine seemingly gets better every time I try it. Best over the next 3-5 years.

Powerful dark fruits and tobacco, as well as minerality here. A very structured wine still with lots of tannins making it quite rustic. Despite this it's lifted and fresh and doesn't feel all too heavy. Clearly built for the cellar, this has years of development ahead. For my palate this is still too young and I think this has some potential for further improvement. 16.5+/20.

And having had another glass, this is better than the 2011 - more expansive on the palate, with red and black fruit on the nose. Very nice, and probably capable of another 5-10 years at this level, although I don’t see that there is a lot of upside at this point, so if you have this in the cellar, check out a bottle.

Blinded some friends on this in the Santa Ynez Valley. Everyone got Italy, but no one guessed Toscana. (Amarone and Langhe Nebbiolo were the top choice) IMO, the notes were closest to the Nebbiolo call.
Red cherries, red raspberries, figs, old leather, tobacco, dried tea leaf and cocoa powder. Acid is still lively and the tannins are soft but still very present. Has a few years ahead of it yet; but a very nice wine to drink now. "Serious Juice" as one of my friends put it.

Rich, dark and earthy. At first I thought it was lacking some acidity, but as the night went on, I changed my mind. I like the wine, and think it has a long drinking window in front of it.
On the second day I picked up some cedar and woody notes.

A beautiful bottle of wine. Pleasant red fruit, very dusty/earthy mouthfeel, some hints of bitterness. Long finish and quite smooth. The nose has quite a bit of vanilla in addition to the red fruit, and is a bit floral. The nose is alluring.

Small vertical of Rancia 2001, 2007 & 2010. All three wines nicely express their Sangiovese soul with textbook aromas a dusty Tuscan earthiness, a leafy herbaciousness and ripe dark red fruits (although all could have used more fruit). These are truly very classic but also rather rustic wines. Despite a 10 to 20 years of cellaring, all three wines needed a long time to get out of their shell, open up and become softer and more harmonious. With a lot of air, the 2001 was the narrow winner (92 pts) thanks to the roundest structure and feel and a touch extra tertiary complexity. The 2007 (91 pts) was the most rustic, with the 2010 (92 pts) being the most promising wine. Both could surpass the 2001 once mature thanks to higher precision and ultimately a touch more complex aroma profile, which, however, didn’t fully show today. I doubt that any of these will ever reach greatness (95+ pts) as they all lack that extra depth and precision and I don’t think there will be enough fruit and sweetness left once the structure finally has mellowed.
Decanting: All wines were quite ungiving right after popping the cork. 3 hours in the decanter helped a bit but only with 2 more hours in the decanter and glass, the wine really came around. If you open a bottle today, I would go for at least 5 hours in the decanter prior to consumption.
Glass: Conterno Sensory

Huge improvement from my last tasting 8 years ago. Tannin's and acidity are well balanced. Long finish and very smooth. Color is still very good. I expect this to be drinking at its peak for another 4-5 years.

Très long, tannins nombreux, plutôt poudreux. Finale sur les épices. Excellent!

This comes across as more black fruit than red on the nose. The red fruit is still in the background on the palate, but slightly more noticeable. Expansive, with adequate acidity. Nice, if less than stellar.

decanted 30 min, enjoyed for 3 hours. aromatically seductive out of the gate, evolved more to savory herbs & what strikes me as barrel spice; full-throated sangiovese fruit expression, less suave than the nose & seeming to want a couple more years. zero complaints, expect positive evolution.
black pepper pork porterhouse chop; blue lake beans w/turnips & peppers, tomato chutney; garlicky roasted bintje potatoes

Upon opening the fully intact cork smelled of blueberry and leather. The wine has the color of a highly extracted Pinot Noir with orange at the rim. The nose offers up with vanilla initially with baked earth, and ribbons of slightly dried blue/black fruit. The silky and medium light mouthfeel displays stereotypic arid fruit bolstered by a still buoyant acidity with a light scaffolding of Sangiovese tannins along with a flavor of basil on the finish. The long finish delivers sweet and delicate sachet-like fruit flavors that will likely make more of a presence with grilled steaks. Now is the time to drink to drink your upper level 13+ year old Chianti Classico Reservas, as they may well be descending into the realm of wistful memories. Drinking this highly crafted wine is reminiscent of having a conversation with a well-lived and very interesting person.

Dark crimson in color. 14% ABV. Gorgeous nose of red fruits, road tar, flowers and iron. Medium body with ample acidity. Rustic and somewhat approachable. Black cherries, plums, anise and earth on the palate. The finish is long and supple with drying tannins. So good at 13 years of age. It is difficult to think of many wines that age so well at this price point. Best over the next 2-3 years.

On the nose, strawberry and camphor. On the palate, black cherry and currant with notes of leather and earthy spices, with moderate tannins and good acidity on the medium to long finish. The Cellartracker drinking window looks too early; this is early in its drinking window, with years to go, and it benefits from some hours of exposure to air. This is excellent, and it was an excellent value at a little under $40.

While this is also not a great vintage for Rancia, it is a better wine across the board than the 2008. The nose has ripe red fruits and a reticent floral note. Positively expansive on the palate compared to the 2008 - I find side-by-side tastings to be helpful for context, but in this case, trying the '07 next to the '08 might lead one to overrate the '07 because it is so much better than the other wine.

Mid+ red to mahogany rim. A rather evolved nose with oil-smeared leather, old teak wood, underbrush and dry, tobacco leaves. Umami almost marmite (yeast extract) on entry yet with some red cherry, toasted spices and leather desk. The mid palate shows some richer textures alongside that classic sour cherry nuance balanced with crispy, bright acidity. Granular tannins, with a long finish. While evolved, it did improve in glass, promising more. More red fruit is coaxed out later, along with some tobacco notes. It seemed a little developed at 12 years. Given the high scores, perhaps the bottle was slightly scalped? I have one more bottle to try...

Ripe fruit, black cherry profile. Still has prominent chunky tannins. Nice aromatics with some cedar mixed with the fruit. Lively slightly bitter finish and dynamite with food. A darker brooding style of chianti, but still fresh and the ripeness/roundness of the fruit makes this accessible now.

Decanted for about 90 minutes before dinner. Very dark, no signs of bricking, no sediment to speak of. The nose is a little tobaccoey. The palate has some dark fruit, more tobacco, some gravelly kind of mineral flavors, and a fairly strong spice component - perhaps pepper?. Lots of structure still with perhaps a little bit of rough tannin. Robust. Beautiful.

From a split. Dark, murky red in color. Nose takes a while to open up and after about 1.5 h shows smoky black fruits, graphite, tar and dark dried flowers. Palate is very sturdy and masculine showing crushed dark fruits, savory brown spices, smoke, medium acidity and grippy tannins on a tar/leather tinged finish. Hmmm...., a bit disjointed.

Dark crimson in color. 14% ABV. Rustic nose of red and black fruits, earth, wet stones and flowers. Dry and dusty on the palate with flavors of dried cherries, blood, anise and earth. There is a copious amount of tannin showing on a long, grippy finish. Aging gracefully, well made and fairly priced. All the hallmarks of this wine. From memory I would give a slight nod to the '04 and '06. Drink over the next 3-5 years.

Robe rubis dense; Nez complexe, bien parfumé, principalement sur la cerise foncée légèrement compotée. Beau mélange de fumée (léger), d'anis & légère pointe de feuille de tomate. Aspect floral développé, touche d'alcool perceptible.

Deep garnet color. Already pretty open now (much more open than my last bottle 3-4 years ago), but still mellowing and opening up with a 2 hour decant. Notes of tobacco leaf, smoke, cedar wood, dark plum, dark red cherries, also some sweet spices like cinnamon, tar, also some leather. It‘s medium-full bodied, has medium-high acidity providing beautiful freshness, and medium-high tannin that is well hidden under all the aromatics showing that this is still pretty young and has plenty of structure (and fruit) left for many more years. Excellent length. A superb, complex, classic and top-notch Chianti Classico Riserva that is at the beginning of a long drinking window. Wow. (95+)

I have been drinking the '05 Rancia recently, so I thought I would take a look at this vintage as well. Color here is still surprisingly dark - virtually opaque at the core, lightening out to ruby on the rim.
Ripe/sweet red & black fruits on the nose. A nose that says "drink me".
A little more tied down/less expansive on the palate than the '05 currently is, but pretty good drinking all the same. Good persistence and decent acidity.

Opaque rosewood color. Rich and warm nose of brambles, oiled leather, and a faint whiff of mesquite. This has a lightly stony terroir, and the sweet topnote of crushed violet. Another ringer for Left Bank Bordeaux. In the mouth, this starts pleasantly with a flowery sweetness, becoming drily rocky at mid palate. Throughout the palate, there is a drying note of well-integrated tannin. A bit less good than the 2004 and 2006 Rancia I recently enjoyed, this could use some more time to smooth out. I have two magnums remaining, and will endeavor to keep away from them for 3-5 years.

Double decanted and served immediately, the wine had definitely not opened fully in the two hours it took to finish the bottle. So you may want to open this a day ahead and/or decant at least + 2 hours ahead. Darker brick color than most Chianti. Immediate and prominent fragrances of fresh dark cherries, plum and a subtle spiciness; the flavor profile was even more intense, with some added earth notes and a hint of mint or rosemary. This has a great, full mouth feel, a silky but powerful taste combining the tremendous fruit, a persistent richness but also lots of acid and firm tannins. It finishes very long and with an intense minerality. Delicious. I want to taste this again in ten years; rink to 2035.

Medium red to the edge. Juicy black cherry, earth and spice in the nose, fairly rich. Dry earthy cherry flavours and a tannic finish that was tamed by the food, on it's own it was a tannic monster.

Mocha, tobacco, dried flowers. Dusty cherry. Good stuff.
I do remember liking this a little better upon release. Maybe a slight off bottle? Maybe storage condition or the age made it lose some fruit? Unsure. Will have to try again at some point.

Decanted for two hours and then drank over the next two. Deep dark purple color. Nose of cherry, earth and baking spices. On the palate strong flavors of cherry, red currant, raspberry, with undertones of pepper, oak, leather and green pepper. The fruit really pops initially. Long finish with ample tannin. We also tried it with some pizza to see how it handled the acid from the tomato sauce and it was divine.
This is a fantastic wine. It is still drinking very young - I imagine over the next 5-10 years the tannin will continue to mellow and will reveal something truly spectacular. As for now, I believe it is drinking at a 94, but with some more cellar time this could easily be ~96 for me.

Opaque crimson color. Nose of potpourri and some dusty soil, but little else in the way of tertiary development. The palate echoes this, with an intensely floral character to start. However, this thins out in the middle of the mouth, a problem I experienced with the 2006 and (to a lesser extent) the 2004. These are better-than-average vintages and should be entering prime time, but the wines are tasting either dilutely thin or shrilly acidic. I've got several more bottles across all these vintages, so more opportunities for redemption in time, but I'm not terrifically hopeful at the moment.

Almost opaque ruby at the core - definitely darker than typical for a Rancia. The nose here is not as overt as the Stella di Campalto, but it is very pleasant, with a mix of red and black fruits and the faint menthol backnote.
Not as polished as the Stella on the palate, but satisfying - decent acidity and still a little unresolved tannin on the finish. My wife actually preferred this to the Stella di Campalto last night. I like this, but can't agree with her on that point. This is also drinking younger/more primary, and seems like it could improve and is definitely capable of another 10-15 years of aging.

Tight after a two hour decant, opened up during a meal. Really blossomed on day 2; the last one third of the bottle that was held over showed pretty cherry fruit, great balance, developing tertiary notes, excellent depth, clean and savory finish. Worked well with food on day 1 and not so well on its own, was outstanding on its own on day 2. This should continue to improve, one decant if opening now.

Dark red in color. Restrained aromas of black cherries, smoke, spicy wood and hint of forest floor. A perfectly medium bodied with sweet dark red berry fruit, hint of tobacco, medium (-) acidity, and a long spicy woodsy finish. A darker translucent ruby in the glass of this popped & poured wine; there is an enticing smoked meat note on the nose, backed by red fruit.
Wow, very nice - I would normally think a 10 year old Rancia is still too young, but this is delicious right out of the bottle. Good acidity frames the fruit, with a little tannic nip on the finish. I'm definitely enjoying this as I get ready to snack on some provolone and pesto with fresh bread

Give this bottle a good decant! The first day, after only about a one hour decant, it was a bit monochromatic and harsh, but the second day was much better: full, supple, warm with deep red fruit but with enough tannic structure to hold it together and prevent it from being flabby. Drink now, but decante minimum 2-3 hours

I had purchased a case of 375's a few years ago and held them. I have had one bad bottle, a couple of average bottles and one good bottle. Tonight I had the best bottle, right out of the gate a nose of dark fruit and some floral aromas, the palate was berry, plum, leather and cedar with the hint of dried flowers, the finish long and smooth. I hope the rest are this way

reminiscent of a Bordeaux, but a little sweeter, a little more one-dimensional, some cherries, leather, tobacco, layers of fruit, blackcurrant, still great potential, a bit early to drink now, a wonderful chianti, one of the very top producers, year after year, one of my favorites from Chianti

Wow! What a wine! Very dark in color with some slightly brown hints on the rimms already and perfectly ruby clear through the light. Fantastic redberry and violets on the palate, very good acidity. Wine is almost fat but silky at the same time. With every quarter of an hour it opened up exploding with the fruit. Then some secondary hints of vanilla and even smoke popped up. Perfectly concentrated. After another 3 hours it was very profound, intensive in th nose also some chocolate hints could have been recognized. For me close to perfection and tasted very similarily to young Brunello. Fantastic!

Dekantert. Lite bunnfall. Litt lukket umiddelbart, mer åpner seg raskt opp.
Middels intens.

Just entering its drinking window, with richness and intensity, showing floral perfume at this stage, cedar, ripe cherries, with distinct green olives, leather and smoked notes. Medium full, high acidity, huge tanins, it is quite savory and in a mature stage, but may improve palate depth in a couple of years. Really good grip and mouth fillment. For now we can enjoy its gorgeus tuscan bouquet and strong flavors. 92-93

Two hour decant, The main thing I noticed about this wine is that it is tart and tannic and needs more time in the cellar to integrate its components more fully, give this at least two or three years more time before popping one open. It does have the basic structure to turn into a very fine chianti.

100% Sangiovese. Long et assez persistant.

Complex Chianti with earth, grass and tobacco notes. Interesting fruit blend of sour cherry, strawberry and licorice. A lot going on with this wine but you must decant for at least an hour to fully appreciate the full array of flavors.

I knew this would be super young, but I just couldn't wait. Decanted for 2 hours. Still muted but pretty nose of dark plums, dark red cherries, tar, graphite, tobacco and some sweet spices. On the palate there are notes of darker red fruit again, minerals (graphite & tar), some cedar wood, tobacco, a touch of smoke and some leather. It's medium-full bodied with high acidity and medium-high tannin buried well under the extract. Long finish with a touch of bitterness adding complexity. It's still a baby in terms of evolution. I will give my bottles another 3 - 5 years in the cellar at least (if I can resist the temptation). A very beautiful and complex Rancia with an extra level of richness without compromising on freshness. It might gain a point or two if it develops in bottle as expected. (94+)

I have 8 oz to go with this wine. I am hoping that the last 8 will be better than the first 16. This was a very muted, subtle expression of Chianti/Sangiovese. We had this with pizza and what I got from this bottle is that it is/was past primetime, but that can't be. I will try to edit this TN and comment on the last 8oz.
EDIT: Last 8 oz were what I expected. A good Chianti with good fruit and acidity.

Very mature wine at this stage, showing the warmth and early access of the 2007 vintage. Brown rim and some sediment. The wine is clearly at its best at this stage, I don't think it will improve much. Great clear fruit. Complex and complete. A bit drying, it sits long. Great stuff. 92

Clear, dark crimson, orange-pink rim, dozens of thick streaming tears Clean, med+ intensity, further aromas of sour cherries, off-raspberries, tar, black pepper, musty. Dry, med- body, full tannins, musty, oaky, sour cherries, cranberries, with a long finish.

Tuscany Wine Club (Our apt): Wine was opened a few hours before consumption, but we did not decant (upon reflection we probably should have). It has a lot of wonderful flavors that I like - the cinnamon, fruit and the tannins while ever present are actually quite fine. Just felt like it didn't have time to all come together and really is probably a bit too young to be drinking.

Tasted a couple of hours after decanting. Ripe fruit, earth and tobacco aroma. Cherry, plum, herbs and mineral on the palate. Full yet soft and alluring. Understated tannins and a long finish with a touch of tartness at the end. I do not drink much Chianti. This wine has me rethinking that. It is very good.

Pretty closed up on the nose, like an unyielding wall of black cherry, tobacco and gravel, with dense muscular tannins on the mid-palate, and a slightly disturbing oak bitterness in the finish. Even though 2007 in Tuscany often is a forward vintage, this clearly needs a few more years in the cellar, and might improve to gain more points later on. Needs food. For casual drinking, the mid-weight '08 is a somewhat better choice at the moment.

Bonne persistance, bonne ampleur & bonne structure. Les tannins sont biens présents. Très bien.

Much better than the other bottle of this one that we had in December, but still not a complete wine. Black cherry, but heavily cloaked behind tannins and heavy leather/oak character. Decanted and aerated so we gave it plenty of help to open up and though good it didn't blossom.

No score, not flawed, but exceptionally dry with typical Sangiovese acidity, quite closed despite decanting. Very modest cherry fruit in the background. Tanzer indicates this is a "backward" Rancia and I can't think of a better word other than Disappointing!

In bocca tannini morbidi.

Medium garnet. Initially restrained but after breathing it reveals a lovely array of aromatics that are typical of a top-quality sangiovese: red cherry, scorched earth, esspresso roast, leather and green (unroasted) coffee beans. Medium-bodied and elegant with silky tannins and bright acidity. Long aftertaste. Just entering its drinking window so it will benefit from further cellaring. A great food wine.

From memory: Served to dinner guests from magnum (and not really given proper attention). Dark ruby, primary cherry fruit, hints of leather and wood, good depth, firm grip. No need to rush – will probably improve over the next three to four years.

Dark red. The nose is less interesting than the palate at this stage. Popped and poured, might be better with a bit more age or more air. Quite tasty, however, smooth, with red fruit on the palate.
A nice CCR, glad I have some bottles left, and I'd guess that my score might be a bit higher in a year or three.

Very beautiful dark colored wine which combines elegance with flavor. Earthy nose, very Tuscan with some leathery tones and ripe plummy fruit. Palate is concentrated with impeccable tannins, fine acidity and good finish. It is now is a good stage to drink but it can develop much further.

La Festa del Coniglio (Miami, FL): Black color with an exotic bouquet of dark fruits, italian herbs, charred oak, and currants. Palate was lush and silky with layers of dark fruit, well integrated tannins, finishing medium in legth with nice italian herbs infused into the dark rich fruit. Pure delight. You can age this Rancia or drink it now. 94+

This wine was a true disappointment. It had sharp and persistent sour flavors upon opening. As we had two different wines, we switched to the other to let it breathe, no little avail - still had sour notes. The next day was no improvement, unfortunately. The bottle was not obviously corked and I have several others which I will open soon.

Dark core with thin rim; dark cherry, dried fruit, cedar, coffee, kind of closed and showing a little stank (positive); dark profile, blackberry, tannic (though nowhere near the Clerico right before it!), some pleasant sweetness; much softer than previous tastings- possibly a good sign that this will be open in the next year or so.

From 375 ml. Crimson brown color. Nose starts very sweet, dominated by oak and vanilla. With swirling a cedar aroma emerges, followed by cocoa, Penzey's "Tuscan Sunset" spice blend (appropriately), cured sausage, wet earth and star anise. The palate is mostly tart cherry, with sturdy but well-proportioned tannins. I liked this a bit less well than prior bottles, but it's still a delightful wine with quite a few years ahead of it.

Color: Opaque ruby Smell: Earth, leather, dried red fruits, blueberries, herb, and birch Taste: Cherry, cranberry, raspberry, chewing tobacco, and mushroom Overall: Outstanding!! This is a wine that deserves time in the decanter or in the cellar. I've decanted this vigorously twice and given it 4 hours in a magnum decanter. Medium body, med+ fruit, Med+ acidity, med+ tannin, and a long finish. Give this wine 3-5 years in the cellar and you'll be asking yourself, "why do people buy Brunello?"

Off the list at Bartolotta at the Wynn ($102). We aerated (4) bottles in decanter for 90 minutes, though it could have used twice that to really strut its stuff. If I were sitting on these, I'd be waiting 2-3 more years for everything to come together. Right now, the fruit, which is quite pretty, is wrapped up in too much wood. By the end of the dinner, some attractive purity and nuances began to emerge, but it was not enough to justify the price-tag. Drink 2015- 2023

Charming, warm and fruity, 2007 in Toscana had low yield due to both dry and hot weather, but also hailstorms. High quality chianti but a llittle warm touch, witch are typical for the vintage 2007. Chianti can not be much better than this ! A wonderfully delicious and great wine. You can buy a case or three, and drink a bottle every year the next 10-15 years and have a perfect chianti and learn how this amazing Felsina develops during storage and just gets better and better. Compared with Bordeaux this wine is some of the best purchase you can do in today's marked. run and buy, so much jou get !! Felsina Rancia can sometimes be difficult to find, but all the wines from Felsina are very good chianties and value for money

Très foncé & opaque à l'oeil. Nez: Bouquet assez ample. Salutations

Dark brownish red color, with brick at the rim. Nose of cigarette butts (I mean this in the most appealing way), Sno-Caps (think chalky, minty chocolate) and cedar wood, with a green vegetal aroma at the base. On the palate, deep red fruits to start, followed up with tart, astringent tannins like strong tea. This is a youngster, but the initial complexity combined with the tannic structure indicates wonderful things ahead for those with 5-10 years of patience.

Dark ruby on colour. Medium+ intensity. Tertiary aromas are dominating with roasted coffee, smoke and dark chocolate. Some black cherry and prunes as well. Medium bodied and well structured. Tight acidity, firm tannins. Okey fruit but enough to keep the oak in balance for now. Not sure if its sufficient in the future. Oaky, but nice length on the finnish

Deep crimson color transisitions to a dark brick red at the rim. Nose of maraschino cherries and milk chocoate, with a woody hint. The palate is incredible- like fully mature Bordeaux- with pepper, dusty sous-bois flavors and a gentle but firm finish. Fantastic quality for the price- running out to buy more of these soon. A real overachiever.

Dark fruits, anise. Dark but not ponderous. Earth, graphite. Reminds me of a BIG claret on the nose. A mouthful. Complete and then moreso. Very short finish but that is because the tannins and acid are proud. I can only imagine that this is a Citadel destined for the cellar.

Dinner at Enoteca Italiana (Enoteca Italiana, Bangkok): This was good - still very young, but I must say that it was nevertheless very enjoyable with a short decant. The nose was a bit tight but even then rather surprisingly expressive for a young Rancia. These usually are so shy in their first formative years, but this bottle showed ripe little notes of dark cherries and dried berries, a dusting of plums, and some very Tuscan nuances of toasty earth, dried herbs and smoked meat. Nice stuff. The palate was rather less developed than the nose, but was also very pleasant. Mid-bodied, it showed ripe, slightly roasted flavours of cherries and berries kissed by a touch of sundried tomatoes, a lovely dolllop of well-integrated acidity, and more earthy, spicy notes as the wine drifted away into a slightly savoury, smoky finish. Yum. Still a baby, so the wine came across as rather primary and still wore a cloak of fine, but firmish tannins over most of the palate. However, this was a nice, energetic Chianti that gave a lot of pleasure even in its youth. It kept getting better with time, espiecially with some cold-cuts on the plate, with the wine showing more nuanced fresh fruit notes and little drifts of smoke and mineral towards the finish. A nice bottle with a lot of potential - one to try again in 5 to 6 years' time, although it should develop for far longer than that.

My touchstone Chianti Classico Riserva. had from 375. Deep ruby in the glass with an almost purple hue. nose was full on ripe plums, a little mineral and smoke and a healthy oak footprint. Palate was more round and ripe than I was expecting, but I loved it. Easy to drink now with ripe, rounded out tannin, not. Medium-high acid. Curious to see what this would taste like with age but it is delicious now even if it is slightly atypical round/ripe for Rancia.

Nice nose of rose petals, tar, and black cherry. Tar and cherry carry through to the palate. No evidence of oak. Finish ends in a roasted nuts note, a bit rancid. Seems way too young and I'm really suspecting I prefer most of my Italian varietals at 10+ years which is way too long to cellar for this type of wine. Need to buy mine with more age on them to start with..

This is a seriously nice rancia. Perhaps slightly more rounded and smooth than some prior versions but the usual pedigree is there. Cherries, violets and some balsamic notes on a smooth finish that also shows some oak. Buy (what's new?).

Love me some Rancia. An excellent Chianti with lots of different elements on the nose. Earth, asphalt, and a touch of cinnamon. Acidity is well managed but there's enough to keep it lively. Lots of depth with a viscous texture but somehow keeps from being jammy or overly rich. A great value for $35 but is it 'that' much better then their $23 Riserva? Maybe...

taste: plush medium body with medium+ acidity and sneaky tannins. Behind the tannins are plush tones of red fruits, dark red cherries, herbs and some fresh picked roses

375 ml Viscous. Upon opening was jammy with black fruit. Never had a Chianti like it. One hour later some of the fruit is gone and there is bite to the tannins, and you can tell it's Sangiovese grape. 90 minutes in and tannins are strong and cedar-like with red fruit.

Nose: At this stage, it has very rich delicious red and dark fruit in addition to the cream from the oak. A deeper style of Chianti Classico

Popped and poured. Shy nose, some black cherry and licorice. Palate is more accessible than expected with bright red fruits, good acidity and poise, with chewy fine tannins that turn slightly bitter on a long finish. Opened up through the dinner. Quite good, with good density and complexity, but needs 5 yrs or a good decant.

Now this is Chianti - this wine is big, dense, structured, complex, bold and absolutely delicious. Huge nose of minerals, cherry, loam earth, spice and roses. Dry and tanic on the palate with the same profile as the nose. The acid and minerality linger for a long delicious finish.

Much more dense and burly (and less pretty) than the 07 Fontalloro, but there is much structure and stuffing in the Rancia. No doubt a well made wine but needs a lot more aging, but if one is not opposed to a wall of tannins (and in general I'm very tannin-tolerant), it can be enjoyed after some hours of air. Day 2 - dense soup of pure shut-downness

Gambero Rosso (Metropolitan Pavilion): On the nose, I found red fruits, minerals and smoky notes. On the palate, it showed an intimidating structure with sour red berries and a cool freshness, which led to a long but dry tannic finish. I have loved this wine through older vintages but I find it very hard to judge in its youth.

Robe sombre & dégradée au disque;
Très long, tannins nombreux, plutôt poudreux. Finale sur les épices. Excellent!

Robe rubis dense;

Wow. (95+)

PnP. Deep red. Lovely classic Sangiovese nose. A bit tight on the palate; quite different from a bottle drunk 6 months ago in New York, which was just perfect. This seems tighter than an '06 drunk recently but not as fine as that.

Medium body, med+ fruit, Med+ acidity, med+ tannin, and a long finish. Give this wine 3-5 years in the cellar and you'll be asking yourself, "why do people buy Brunello?"

Nez: Bouquet assez ample.

Palate was more round and ripe than I was expecting, but I loved it. Easy to drink now with ripe, rounded out tannin, not. Medium-high acid. Curious to see what this would taste like with age but it is delicious now even if it is slightly atypical round/ripe for Rancia.

Lots of depth with a viscous texture but somehow keeps from being jammy or overly rich. A great value for $35 but is it 'that' much better then their $23 Riserva? Maybe...

Some influence from oak showing today. Good tannic structure. Long finish with essence of pure cherry.

Dusty nose, fruit cake and raspberries and dark red flowery nose. Fruit flavours are vibrant and fresh, cherries and red currants. Finishes with some herby notes.

Maverick Wine Co.'s Grand Tour 2011 (OneSixtyBlue, Chicago IL): nose: tight, but with good intensity on the savory tones of dark red cherries, roasted herbs, fresh picked roses, spice tones and some red fruits
taste: plush medium body with medium+ acidity and sneaky tannins. Behind the tannins are plush tones of red fruits, dark red cherries, herbs and some fresh picked roses
overall: This could use a few years, but it seems to be an earlier drinking rancia. Well balanced with good acidity+tannins

Delicious Chianti. Fantastic aroma of mixed wild berries and candied cherries. Impressively smooth and fantastically structured. What Chianti is supposed to be.

Served at a tasting of 7 Chianti's (all 2007). This was the standout, but also the most expensive @ $37.

Florence & Tuscan Holiday; 5/9/2011-5/16/2011 (Florence & Tuscany): Opened since last night. 100% Sangiovese from their Rancia vineyard.
Nose: At this stage, it has very rich delicious red and dark fruit in addition to the cream from the oak. A deeper style of Chianti Classico
Taste: Still very tight on the palate but very delicious, the 07 was good to this vineyard. Rather well balanced and refined as well. Hard time choosing between this and the Fontalloro. I bought a couple of these guys.

Very dry with lots of acidity, however it stood its ground against the Spring Lamb Loin Dijonnaise, the Morello Cherry Relish really made the wine explode on the palate with fruity flavor that wasn't there before. Great with food but I would enjoy a glass alone.
