A private tasting and dinner at a friend's (Amsterdam): Magnum. Warm and rich, vinous, undergrowth, plums and raisins, spices, ripe but does not lack balance or freshness even if acidity is obviously low, ripe tannins, good length. A creditable 2003.

Dark core to light brick edge. Nose black cherry, fruit cake, some spice- like Christmas cake. To taste there was black fruit crunch, herbaceousness and a lovely sour finish, quite wonderful. Excellent perfect balance and maturity.

Very straightforward nose. Hints of forest decay and tertiary notes as well as blackberries and even some sweaty saddle leather. Surprisingly fruity palate even though there was some berry to the nose. Perfectly drinkable now and would not expect significant improvements over time. Did well up against a lamb shank.

Medium purple color. Very funky upon first opening with some bretty animal notes, wet earth, and bacon fat. This began to subside after about a half hour or so in the decanter and while some meaty, bacon fat notes remained, they were joined by pretty red raspberry aromas and a little smoke. Mostly red fruit and earthy mineral notes on the palate. Smooth mouthfeel and long finish. Very nice Cdp that stayed true to its style.

Leaked cork. 2003 sawn wood, yet with ripe plum fruit and caramel surprisingly well joined together. Bizarrely for an ’03 it has a certain gracefulness – has just come into textural maturity. Not that complex flavour-wise though. 89 to 90, 89.

This wine is badass, $37 dollar retail for one of if not "the" top site in Chateauneuf, La Crau. Are you kidding? Other La Crau wines sell for hundreds of dollars, not that this is as good as Clos St Jean, but a fine Chateauneuf nonetheless. If you can find, buy.

This wine is showing quite well, it features the best aspects of 2003 Rhone with few of the detriments. Hugely ripe, to the point of sur maturitie but in the most charming way, aromas of raisin, plum, kirsch with the secondary layers of seaweed, mesquite, and leather coming into focus. On the palate the texture is seamless and plush while maintaining freshness, with flavors that confirm the aromas. What really captivates is the finish where you find the garrigue, game, and seaweed flavors really flex. The tannins are polished, persistant and fine. Still a load of life with the expected peak in 3-5 years.

Good wine. Somehow not memorable. Might be a little pricey at $35/ bottle. Perhaps I should have decanted it more. Would buy again, but wouldn't seek out.

Decanted for an hour.Dark ruby. Fruit and some spice on the nose. Medium to full bodied wine with a lot of briary fruit supported by sweet tannins. Nice.

Phenomenal. Tons of blackberry and fruit with a little briary hint. The fruit isn't sugary or oaky though; just natural and delicious. High quality right here.

Showing some age but in a good way. Color fading and tannins pretty much melted. Dried red fruit and sweet leather character.

Loved this! Took a while to approach but once the flower opened it was a bunch of fruit spice and funk. Earthy shroomy and yummy. A+

Good. Rustic and earthy. Like eating juicy dark cherries while walking through Sonoran desert with menthol shaving cream still on your face.
