My last bottle of four and it was another exceptional bottle. I really enjoyed this one. It gained in complexity as the night wore on and competed with some heavy hitters for wine of the night. I would drink them soon if I had any more. A wonderful wine 🍷 and hope my next Paul Hobbs are just as good.

This wine had plenty left in it! I was a little unnerved by the listed 2015 end window, but thankfully not the case. Great acidity, tart cherries, and a medium length, soft finish. Wish I had a few more of these.

Last of 6 consumed over 4 years. This one was still good but to advanced in the age curve for me, displaying a more smokey, Scotchy aspect that was nice but not as good as the primary Pinot fruits that are fading. But I like wine on the younger side so ymmv

Initial, PnP. medium deep red with hint or orange. blueberry, blackberry, cherry on palate. light body with medium tannins and acid. a bit of astringency and long finish. Really came together with 2 hours decant. Wonderful layers of complexity all bound together harmoniously.

Consistent with previous tasting and remains outstanding. There is a floral note of rose with dried cherry on the nose, almost like a Barolo, but with more red fruit. Very silky on the palate with fullness and integration of strawberry, cherry and raspberry that goes through to a long and balanced finish.

Classic RRV Pinot. Delicious. Deep red with a hint of purple. Nearly opaque. Perfect shape right now. Aroma of fresh dark cherries, something floral. No earth or mushrooms or cola as in pinot from other regions. Pure Fruit. Moderately heavy mouth feel. Tart acidity. Very soft Tannin. Fruit forward, almost too much fruitiness for a pinot as this wine did not pair as well with food as other pinots. Dark cherry, a hint of clove or nutmeg and other spices. Acid keeps the fruit in check on the extended finish. Reminded me of the Gary Farrell pinots of yore. Totally New World Pinot style. Not my favorite, but very fine for what it is.

5th bottle out of 6. Just starting to lose a little fruit to tertiary development. A little more muddled and softer than previously - as expected this wine probably doesn't have the acid or tannic backbone to carry past a year or two more (to my palate, ymmd). It's aging, again to me, kind of like a lower-acid high end Aussie Shiraz so I'll drink my last one this year probably. Still a really good bottle of wine, and if you like the way softer wines get old you can hold for a while.

terrific as always. Has shed a little wight and picked up a little tertiary aspect. These to me are in the prime drinking window - could see them fading but if you're an old wine palate then you can wait. 94-95 points.

Nose of perfumed red fruit slanted towards strawberry. Initial palate is very silky with dried cherry, raspberry and a slight herbal note coming through in the finish. The finish is quite good and hangs on for long time. The best feature of this wine is not the flavor or nose, but the beautiful integration and balance - everything just lines up perfectly. Not overdone in any direction. No need for any more age - drink now.

Enjoyed my last bottle of this at Dolce in Omaha and it was fabulous. The tasting menu had Duck Breast with a Blueberry glaze that worked perfect with the fullness of this bottle. To me there is not much better than a perfect 6 year old pinot and this bottle was a great example. Clean and smooth with nice strawberries. To show its diversity this was a perfect mix for the chiefs take on PB&J desert that he presented. Drink now but it could go to 2018

Popped and poured, then tasted over the next 24 hours. Light ruby red color, soft fruit aromas, tended to be more aromatic than fruity. Tasted head to head against Belle Glos 2011 Las Alturas. Belle Glos won easily with much more depth, color and intensity. This is a very enjoyable wine, but a bit on the light side.

I opened this with Wino121 and it is drinking wonderful. The ultra smooth medium bodied Pinot is exactly how a Pinot should be. Just the right amount of fruit popping out with a hint of spice! I normally expect a Pinot like this to be a bit older but this is absoulutely stunning. It works well with food or by itself. A wonderful bottle with plenty of life left in it. Drink now to 2018.

Not for the faint at heart... and we drank this wine somewhat young... but this is everything that we love about Russian River Pinot. Power, substance, tremendous pepper and minerality... extremely deep fruit! A veritable spice box... something to be paired with spicy cuisine that won't get lost in the mix!

I love RRV Pinot Noir but this one is the gamiest one I have tasted and I kind of like it. There is a heaviness to it and a bite so I would definitely not call it a smooth or elegant pinot. However the fruit is full and bright both strawberry and black cherry, tannins and acidity are very evident and there is a touch of spice and oak. A lot going on which makes it fun but a little aggressive and slightly disjointed at the same time. I have one more bottle and not sure that aging will change anything so drink up and enjoy. Doesn't need much of decant either.

High extract and punchy fruit but refined, balanced, deeply layered, and plenty of mineral and green notes so it drinks great w/ food. Out of a sea of excellent bottles my guest LOVED this. Give it five years if you don't have a lot of them.

Blackberry and raspberry fruit, then hints of spice and cola, maybe even some tobacco. Good garnet color, very nice mouth feel (enough to be silky, but not glycerine). Finishes with a nice hint of oak and forest. Beautiful with leftover turkey & dressing.
5/6/12 Not going to change a thing with my earlier review. Other than we had it with pasta instead of turkey.
10/1/13. Liked it even better. 93 or 94 now. The best Hobbs I've. Had.

Extraordinary and enchanting Paul Hobbs creation that's wonderfully proportioned and lavish. Propelled by explosive, fragrant aromas of ripe red fruit and flowers, this racy prodigious wine zooms out the gate with juicy plum, blackcherry, sassafrass and luxurious notes of ground cinnamon and spice cake. All the pure flavors are knit together with precision, revirburating throughout this luscious Pinot Noir. Sweet strawberry preserves add to the dazzling flavor tapestry streaking towards a well appointed, lingering finish. Magnificently balanced with stunning composition. HIGHLY RECOMMEND

This bottled seemed a bit off and inconsistent with prior bottles. Very perfumed nose typical of this wine, but it seemed flat without as much fruit as before, missing a bit of the sweetness. The vanilla note also was missing on the finish. Perhaps just an odd bottle.

Wow, vuloputous and full of fresh raspberries and strawberries, this is one fantastic Pinot Noir! Besides the intense fruit, there are hints of white chocolate and a soft perfumed finish. See previous notes. Dream-like California Pinot in a plethora of ways; purity in a multi-dimensional fashion. Anise, cola, cherry, ripe raspberry and more mineral than before. This was a very serviceable Pinot. My expectations were low after my experience with the Crossbarn Cab, but the structure of this wine is fantastic. A bit weightier than I like my Pinot and with a bit too much oak expression, but there is no denying the quality fruit and terrior. Just not my preferred style.

Very perfumed nose with quite a bit of fruit, notes of strawberries to me. Well integrated flavors, with a sweetness from start to finish. I definitely get a taste of something distinct with this pinot, almost a vanilla or almond hint to it. Beautiful long finish. Decanted about 30 minutes.

Fantastic pinot! Not decanted. I don't recall specific descriptors, but I do remember a gorgeous perfume and a beautifully-balanced palate presence with a lot of exuberant pinot fruit. There were definitely tannins, too, and with that great depth of fruit, this one, it appears, could age well.

Bargains vs. Big Boys (Farpointe Cellar): Big and juicy on the nose, with loads of bright raspberry and smoke. There's some asian spice in the middle plus hints of wet leaves, and some floral notes toward the end. The tannins are very sweet and soft on the palate, with lots of ripe, red fruit and pepper. The mid-palate adds some floral notes and earth, and it finishes with more fruit.

Garnet to dark garnet color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of white pepper, black cherries, dark currants and black raspberries. Flavors of black raspberries, black berries and plums. Medium acidity, medium to firm tannins, full bodied. Drink now with some air or over the next 2-5 years.

I wanted to try this at its young age… no disappointment. The nose was clean with pronounced cherry, strawberry and hints of spice. On the palate it was smooth and well integrated.
This was a medium to light in body with a beautiful burgundy color. The cherry and berries came through with slight hints of earth and beautiful spices. I am a fan of Oregon PN’s and love the terror from that region… and this was a nice treat from the Russian River Valley.

Fresh cut strawberries and raspberries. Delicious. Oh so close to being classic. There is a very definite note of sweetness from beginning to end that I wish was balanced with a touch more acidity. Outstanding. The bottle was emptied in a flash because you just cannot stop sipping this.
From the first sip I could see my way to the accolades Spectator bestowed upon this wine - and that's not always the way it goes. The wine immediately reminded me of some of my favorite ~$50 CA Pinots I've enjoyed.
Visually it's slightly dark for Pinot and perhaps veers more towards purple than it should. On the nose it is very pleasant with freshly cut strawberries and a hint of tobacco leaf. On the palate is where this wine really steps up and leaves $20 Pinot Noirs behind. It pours on clean elegant fruit and adds some beautiful slightly-sweet spicy flavors. Silky smooth without a hint of a green or off note. Man, I wish I would have bought more of this.

very good. Great balance between oak and fruit. Loads of red fruit up front with bright acidic notes. The oak underneath is just about perfect. It's only problem is that perhaps the fruit is too bright. Perhaps a few years of bottle age is in order, let it settle down a little bit. The price point is a bit of a struggle also, at $35 this would be a no-brainer, but at 50+ its harder to swallow.

Thanksgiving 2010: Nice nose of berries. Flavors were bright and energized on the palate. Berry flavors (raspberry, blackberry, strawberry, cherry) were nicely palanced by notes of spicy cherry pit, herbs, and good acidity. Outstanding pinot.

I have had this wine three times now and must say that I disagree with Winespectator. This wine is heavy in alcohol and light on fruit. It does have toasted almonds and hints of vanilla on the nose with some minerality but does not cary through to the finish. It may benefit from 3 to 5 years of aging but would be concern if this will ever come to fruition. I have three more bottles and am not planning on buying any more. Rochiolli did a much fuller wine with their estate wine. I prefer it over this one.

Almost a new car leather tone on the nose, as well as wild raspberry, anise and blackberry with spice and touches of mineral and sage. The palate is full of dark sage-laced fruit. Very nice herbaceousness to this wine. - Tasted at Marché bacchus 10/2/10

Decanted for one hour. Dark purple with a crystal rim. Voluptuous aromas; anise, cherry cola, blackberry, wet earth and toasty oak. Very velvety and new-world. A seductive finish and wonderful concentration. There's a lot of fruit and berries with the toasted oak during the one minute finish. This is not over powering with the 14%+ alcohol - with it being so deftly balanced. I have not had a California Pinot in quite some time and am very surprised. This is drinking beautifully at the moment and should be at the same level for at least seven years. Not sure how well this will age. Drink now - 2017.

A rather meaty specimen with strong aromatics complimenting a superb acid backbone balanced by tons of berry fruit, a touch of minerality and sage. This wine is huge at almost 15% abv but you would never guess. Outstanding complexity finishing long on the palate. Beautiful.

This Pinot is a baby. Decanted 6 hours, drank over that period. Big style with great balance, opened up some by hour six, but still yummy from the beginning. Nose of tobacco and violets with some black tea notes. On the palate great structure/acidity, fruit and earth tones that are very intense. Huge mid-palate with very focused flavors that seemed to change every hour. Some medium tannins on the finish along with some oak. I would say best in 8 to 12 years. Not cheap, but one of the best young Cali Pinots I've tasted. Glad I bought another case. Will try again in 5 years.

Blackberry and raspberry fruit, then hints of spice and cola, maybe even some tobacco. Good garnet color, very nice mouth feel (enough to be silky, but not glycerine). Finishes with a nice hint of oak and forest. Beautiful with leftover turkey & dressing.

Extraordinary and enchanting Paul Hobbs creation that's wonderfully proportioned and lavish.
Propelled by explosive, fragrant aromas of ripe red fruit and flowers, this racy prodigious wine
zooms out the gate with juicy plum, blackcherry, sassafrass and luxurious notes of ground
cinnamon and spice cake. All the pure flavors are knit together with precision, revirburating
throughout this luscious Pinot Noir. Sweet strawberry preserves add to the dazzling flavor
tapestry streaking towards a well appointed, lingering finish. Magnificently balanced with
stunning composition. HIGHLY RECOMMEND

A seductive finish and wonderful concentration. There's a lot of fruit and berries with the toasted oak during the one minute finish. This is not over powering with the 14%+ alcohol - with it being so deftly balanced. I have not had a California Pinot in quite some time and am very surprised.
