Very dark crimson and purple, nearly opaque. This wine is a glass stainer and as it swirls in the glass the legs are noticeably maroon. Aromas of bright red berries radiant from the glass. Palate is driven by a big shot of minerals on the attack followed by smokey stems. Fruit flavors round it out with tart raspberry and ripe blackberry. Medium plus finish with a slight ash element.
Seems to have plateaued in a nice place. Still lots of dark fruit, along with olive, earth and a little funk. Maybe a little softer than it has been, but that's a quibble. The tannins are loosening a bit and there's still plenty of acidity - a pleasure to drink. Really shows its stuff with food. Too bad it's my last one...
Bonus bottle, I didn't think I had anymore. Still delicious, blueberry, blackberry, it's a little softer now. Nicely integrated, and there's a little undertone beneath the fruit, not quite herbal, maybe tea. Medium bodied, still a real pleasure to drink.
2nd day notes (overnight under Private Reserve intert gas). Dense purple ruby color, medium bodied. Smoky aromas of black olive, dark fruit, lavender and black tea. Ripe and balanced blue and black fruit flavors with an attractive gliding feel through the mid-palate and finish. Savory mineral and floral highlights throughout- very nicely integrated. Fine grippy tannin and acid with a lingering finish (30+ seconds). Excellent balance and vibrancy- should continue to hold and drink well.
double blind to the group, my bottle. screw cap (!), not decanted. solid, tasty fruit and good balance/composition. good pricing for a single vineyard wine of such notable legacy. a nice quaffer. drink now.
This wasnt pleasant, nose was non-descript -- alchohol, a bit of oak, no fruit to speak of, palate was borderline bad -- again some oak, but astringent, no fruit and therefore alchohol was in the forefront, bitterness on the finish... Based on other notes i may have simply had a bad bottle but didnt seem overtly flawed
Tasting room visit with Larry S.- 5/4. Lots going on here. Bitter chocolate, cassis, cracked pepper, blueberry aromatics. All that and more pure fruit on the palate- blue and black. Smooth and round and polished- a pretty wine with fine balance. A full finish with peppery fine tannins.
This was my first Tercero from my Berserkerday purchase. I do not think i have ever had such a perfumed syrah. The nose was very complex but had so many floral notes to it, which I was not expecting. I literally smelled it and then had to sit back and say woah, it was that strong (in an interesting way). Also I must cmment on the color of it as it was like an ultra dark violet. On the palate there was very nice dark fruit, bramble, a tiny bit of pepper spice and is very full in the mouth. For sure a winner in terms of this purchase.
Same as the last bottle: Straight-ahead Syrah nose with blueberry, blackberry, and a little floral component. Typical Tercero with beautiful fruit, great balance, and some nice depth. Medium-full palate, delicious.
I liked the previous bottle so much, I opened this the following day to enjoy with BBQ Brisket! I enjoy this for what it isn't as well for what it is. It is not overoaked and not overextracted, but it is spicy and shows lots of rich fruit.
Tasting room visit- 1/15. Meaty aromas of blueberry and cassis. Opulent on the palate with blue & black fruit along with savory notes highlighted with white pepper. Pure flavors with nice balance. Drinks with a nice roundness and fine tannins- finishing full. Pure enjoyment.
PnP - drank over 2 hours. Nice fragrant nose of blueberry and roasted meat. On the palate, good concentration, gorgeous flavors of blueberry and bramble and juicy meat. No intrusive oak flavors. Went fantastic with Kleftico (slow roasted lamb). Good acidity throughout with nice balance and long finish.
Good concentration. Maybe a little too big at first, but softens up with a little air. Nice dark fruit, with great acidity running through it and a bit of earth on the back end. Somewhat like a big Cote Rotie. Probably will mellow out and get even better with some more age.
Decanted for 1 hour. Dark lightning purple. Very tannic upon opening. Not fully integrated at this point. Restrained blue fruits but a more full throttle cherry and vanilla reveal. Nice acidity. Mineral/Soil aromas come out when you pay close attention. Less meaty, and more on the cool fruit side. Fresh comes to mind. A nice balance between bigger syrah fruit on the palate, and nuance of place. Soft mouthfeel. I will like this wine with age is my consensus. Has many decent parts that will come together with time.
