Clumsy on the open with some plummy notes. With air show if natural funk which dissipates to more clay, minerals, gravel and ripe cherry fruit. Integrated but lacking some depth.

Served blind I thought this could have been Vosne and Hudelot Noellat did come to mind but I would have possibly have this down for a Beaumont. I always like Hudelot CdV and this was no exception. Lacking a bit of stuffing maybe compared to other more lauded vintages I have had (02, 09 an 10) this was certainly in a good spot.

Mature nose with tobacco notes and black pepper. On the palate surprisingly light and soft for a ´08, but pleasant with dark fruit and a medium long finish. I like it. 91-93P

Hudelot-Noellat, a Favorite Producer (The Wolf, Oakland): Dark as night. Gorgeous, dangerous bouquet of berries, beef blood, and dandelions. High acid that relaxes with air. This is not too young . Totally appealing juicy and nice. A deep clear cherry licorice candy. now-2025

Popped and decanted and enjoyed over two hours. This got better and better with air. Plenty of fruit, lively acidity, and a fair dose of tannin. Good concentration and sap suggests this will continue to age well for years to come. No harm in opening this now but I suspect it will get bette for at least the next ten years.

This is certainly on the young side right now. The nose opens up with a lot of dirty funk, which certainly speaks of Clos Vougeot to me, as far as grand cru goes. The fruit profile here is also a bit darker than I would expect in 2008 as well. The palate is fairly sappy, and while the tannins are a bit tough, there seems to be enough fruit to age. This is not one of the overly light 2008 wines that I perennially worry about.

Clos Vougeot Masterclass, with James Handford MW (Handford Wines, London): Red fruits, light smoky feel and a touch floral on the nose. Young on the palate, but with good purity and definition of fruit. A touch austere for burgundy standards , but still a good wine whih is pleasant to enjoy even now in its youth. 90

Nice size here on the nose; beautiful, succulent red fruit on the attack. Acidity is in check for the most part, the finish is really pretty but there is some nagging acidity on the finish.

Hudelot-Noellat Cellar Visit and Tasting (Vougeot): Tasting at Domaine.Dense fruit, more black than red with lots of power and structure. Not showing much finesse, this wine has lots of concentration so will hold up well in the cellar, I'm just not sure if we're talking 10 or 20 years for it to reach maturity. A very masculine Clos Vougeot.

Blind. Dark, seductive, lovely without being impressive.

Blind. High acid, some complexity, animal fur, this must be a PN?, some development. Guessed Gevrey.

A bruiser. Big and powerful. Needs to be paired with a meat dish. Serious iron and earthy funk.

Lighter than the NSG next to it but fresher. A touch under ripe I felt but really good minerals complexity on the finish

Medium-light in colour and weight. Like most 2008s this is pure and transparent. Pretty red fruit with a vibrant finish. Estimated maturity: 2014+
