Wanted to try their entry level champagne after having, and loving, the Palm d'Ors.
Not as complex, understandably. Similar nutty and brioche characteristics. The tartness and astringency compete with it here and it leaves a less pleasant impression. After warming up, the balance seemed to equalize a bit.
A decent drink at the QPR, but nothing outstanding.

87 Jan 2022 👃 medium ripe apple 👅 med high acidity, ripe green apple with a little tartness, wet stone, fairly small bubbles. A decent, simple, young champagne. Would buy again once in awhile on (significant) sale for an 'everyday' sparkler. Better than any Prosecco or cava I've had to date.

Modest bubbles. Medium yellow. Nice nose with modest yeast. Ripe fruit/baking apple profile with a touch of yeast. Pleasant but not special for the price.

Highly reliable NV champagne, which is a constant rebuy for me in this price range. This bottle was more mature than my previous bottles, which I quite liked. Less bubbles of course, but a dark yellow and ripe palate. Lovely!

Really quite tasty, nice lemony fruit, some nuttiness. Perhaps a little on the sweet side but not bad at all. Not a patch on the vintage bed ration, mind.

If I had read my note from two years ago, I would not have bought another bottle. My impressions are still the same. I don’t like the conflict of sweetness and astringency going on here. At least the producer is consistent 4+11+13+6= 84

Either my taste has changed or this champagne is not what it was. Dry with somewhat overwhelming apple taste. No brioche notes with little citrus flavor. Short finish. I think I’ve been spoiled with some better champagnes recently.

Totally reliable and fantastic value, with almond nutty-yeasty bread dough and balanced crisp citrus fruits, even surprised our big time wine friends so much that they took a photo of the label.

Clear colored, with fresh strawberries on the nose. Bone dry with medium acidity and some white cherry flavors. The dryness just dominated the feel, a bit out of balance.

Solid and quite similar to KMolson12 notes, especially the sweet almond-nuttiness with brioche, very pleasant and definite re-buy at the ~$25-30 range, hard to find much better.

Still loving it after all these years. Don't get the low reviews. Maybe I'm just not that critical, but this gives me heaps of Champagne pleasure at a QPR that is do-able.
Somewhat simplistic, not very distinctive or complex, but pleasant straightforward bubbly. Crisp and clean on the palate and finsh. I think there are numerous less expensive sparklers (Champagne and domestic) that offer more.

Medium straw color. Sparse, though persistent mousse. Light honey and citrus bouquet. Dosage seems high and overall the wine is somewhat flabby and lifeless. Food helps. Not a re-buy. 4+11+13+6=84

A fruit forward style of Champagne: pears, peaches, apricots, some acacia flowers as well as hints of biscuits and cheese. Feels almost sweet on the palate. 91-93

Good Champagne. Green apples, pears, and citrus atop notes of biscuits, bread dough, and a nutty, almond-like aspect. The finish is minerally and shows a touch of glazed intensity. Overall nice freshness and a nice bead but it tended to dissipate rather quickly.

Another good showing for a reliable wine, and I like the style. Super biscuit, doughy, almond, honey, nougat, on top of pears and baked apple. Crisp and fresh but doughy and biscuit. Pears, baked apple, topped in biscuits and white flowers.

Nicolas Feuillatte is the label of the Centre Vinicole de la Champagne, a large union of co-op producers in the Champagne region. This wine is pale lemon in appearance, with a medium intensity aromas of lemon, pear, peach, and apricot, wet dough, and curry. Medium body and acidity. On the palate the apricot notes are more evident, and the finish is pleasingly tart but a bit short. Not extraordinarily complex, but effortlessly drinkable.

I had this after work on 3/15/18. It had a fragrant, expressive bouquet of apple, vanilla, lemon cream, toasted nuts, mineral and spice aromas. The palate was crisp and lively with flavors of apple, lemon, lime, almond, minerals and spice.

Pale straw in color with a consistent & steady stream of fine perlage. Full, fragrant & attractive nose of green apples & lemon/lime citrus notes with overtones of floral & some dusty/yeasty notes & a hint of stony/minerals in the background. Light bodied with a good concentration of balanced & smooth textured, ripe fruit flavors of green apples & lemons/limes, some yeastiness followed by mineral notes. Lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present. Great QPR when found heavily discounted.

Mutter mochte ihn... 82-84 Punkte. War die Flasche zu alt /müde?

1. Nicolas Feuillatte Brut Reserve (89p) - 2 bottles 92 points Parker sticker on both bottles. 40% Pinot Noir - 40% Petit Meunier - 20% Chardonnay. My favourite NV Champagne in the 20€ price range. Yeasty, nuts, brioche and lemon notes. Outstanding given the 20€ I paid for each bottle.
2. Molitor Rüdesheimer Schlossberg Spätlese Trocken 2015 (91p) - 3 bottles WOTN for most of us. Young, but ready to drink: On the palate stonefruit, peach, slate with well integrated RS and acidity. Juicy, savoury, and dry at the same time.
3. Jean Stodden Spätburgunder Alexander 2016 (85p) - 1 bottle This typical German Pinot Noir is quite different from its French or US relatives, which I usually prefer. Light transparent red, almost orange (Aperol!) colour, herbal nose. Herbs on palate with licorice, cherries and wood. Tough job to compete with other wines this evening.
4. Scheiblhofer Big John 2015 (89p) - 1 Magnum 3h decant. This was a christmas gift, which we spontaneously decided to add to the wine menu on christmas eve. Cuvée made from Zweigelt, Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot noir, which spent 12 months in oak barriques. Very young but already at the beginning of its drinking window (to ~2025). Dark violet colour, dark berries and wood on nose. You can taste that this is a cuvée, whereas Zweigelt (60%) is quite dominant with dark chocolate, strong tannins and red berries. Easy to drink.
5. Chateau Fieuzal 2008 (90p) - 3 bottles 3h decant. Had this Bordeaux also at our last family dinner and my notes are still the same: Kirsch and coffee nose. Very accessible with kirsch, leather, and coffee notes; round tannins and long finish. Perfect drinking window right now.

From a holiday themed bottle with disgorgement code L44255, this pale yellow sparkler has a brisk, medium-sized bead. Dusty aromas and flavors of lemon zest, cardamom, toasted bread and pine nuts are supported by fresh acidity. With a solid middle palate and medium-length, crisp finish, this is a respectable Champagne and a good value, but it fails to stand out from the crowd. Drink now-2019.

Evening reception and private viewing at the National Gallery. Limited note from memory. Youthful feel, exceptionally steely style of champagne with decent weight if perhaps lacking a tad in the fruit department as it stands. Nonetheless more than serviceable accompaniment to the excellent canapés and clearly moreish as one didn't resist the continuous refilling of one's glass!! I wonder with this tight structure whether a year or two in cellar would bring more out of the wine and translate it into the excellent 90pt bracket.

Popped and poured from a 200ml bottle. A bit volatile fruit on the nose with some toast as well. Medium bodied, dry, good acidity and bubbles/mousse, showing some changing and unfocused fruit with a bit of toast on the palate. Very quaffable but for a champagne in this price category it is disappointing. Many cheap cavas and proseccos are better.

No idea about the age of the bottle, as the front or back label say nothing on the vintages or disgorgement dates. Served blind.
Very pale yellow-green. Somewhat restrained nose with aromas of yeasty autolysis and fruit-forward aromas of sharp citrus fruits, some floral nuances and a hint of pear marmalade or pear drops that really doesn't fit the picture. The wine is dry, clean and a bit austere on the palate, making people wonder at first if this is an Extra Brut or Non-Dosage bubbly. There are quite ripe and fruit-forward flavors of ripe citrus fruits, some honey and a hint of green apples. As the wine sits in the glass, the dosage starts to become more evident, turning the wine even a bit off-dry, although the moderate acidity keeps the balance in check. The mousse is quite ample and crisp, even slightly aggressive. The finish is crisp, clean and quite acid-driven with straightforward flavors of ripe citrus fruits, tart green apples and a hint of yeast.
I was glad this wine was served blind, because I've never been impressed by Feuillatte Champagnes and I would've probably given the wine bad score automatically, just because of the producer. Now, having tasted the wine blind, I concluded that this is an enjoyable, but rather simplistic and straightforward entry-level Champ with very little character. A textbook example of classic Grande Marque Champagne. I admit that the wine was better than what my memory told me, it being thoroughly balanced and perfectly drinkable, but I don't see why anyone should seek this wine out - the wine is so predictable it is deadly boring. Overpriced at 39,90€.

Pinot Meunier driven, with Chard & Pinot Noir. Medium nose shows general citrus, white flowers or fieldgrass, dried apricot, musty tone. Palate is forward, dried fruit up front, green pear, and apple notes, then dies off quickly, crisp dry finish but there could definitely be more here. Decent entry level offering.

WSET, Level 1; 5/27/2017-5/28/2017 (The Vineyard at Florence, Florence, TX): Blind tasting. A great representation of an entry level Champagne, albeit it a slightly simple one. White gold color. Medium effervescence in a small Chardonnay glass. Notes of brioche, lemon, and a slight touch of green apple on the nose. Tart citrus, stone fruit and taut, stony minerality on the palate with some refreshing acidity supporting a very long, pleasant finish.

From 375ml. Pale straw in color with large bubbles that are only mildly persistent as this sits in the glass. A little VA on the nose, followed by lime and slate on the palate. Not especially complex. On the whole, this is underwhelming.

I was surprised at how much green apple dominated this wine. It was surprising, since I've had this wine many times in the past. I don't know if they changed the style, or if my pallet has just matured, but I didn't like this. It was better with food.

Spices, toast and orange notes on the nose. Tropical fruit focused upfront with the hint of sweetness that other reviewers have noted. Some orange notes behind that with nice acidity and toast notes into the finish A very soft and accessible champagne designed for current drinking. Perhaps a bit too tropical focused with not quite the acidity or dryness I would've expected from a brut. Straight forward, no flaws and if you enjoy the style, a good value. Celebrating best friends newborn! (Sundbyberg): (Disgorged in 2013, two years extra cellaring) Light yellow colour with a youthful nose showing hazelnuts, nougat and lemon. Really nice value for Champagne. Nose quite pronounced, notes of green apple, biscuit, pastry, lemon - fresh and cooked. Palate is high acid, med+ intensity - toasty, pastry lemon, apple. Without great depth and concentration, but everything seems to work and deliver a very nice wine for the price.

The Nicolas Feuillatte Brut NV sports an unfortunate, nearly non-existent nose of yellow apple and discreet notes of pear and yeast on the palate. So clean it seems to have been wiped of all personality. Tabula Rasa. Ordinarily, I’d call this an entertaining wine, but for $35.00 there are tons of sparkling wine producers that deliver a good deal more. Not recommended.

Someone gave this to us, and I made the mistake to drink it for an aperatif. Massive bubbles, mouth fills with mouse leading to a gassy finish and unfortunately lingering acidity. No discernible complexity of appealing taste. Fairly dark colour but no biscuit, etc. Even when filled with cassis it was unpleasant. Maybe I'm spoiled by the standard of champagne in my cellar, but no way this is anything near a 90pter. I'd even drink Moët before this!

Typically a blend of Pinot Meunier (40%), Pinot Noir (20%) and Chardonnay (20%). Dosage 9 g/l, acidity 6,5 g/l.
Youthful, medium-deep lime green color. Very ripe and fruity nose with very little focus, showing aromas of sweet stone fruit notes, a little bit of peach candies and a hint of pear drops. No real autolytic character to speak of. Doesn't smell that much of Champagne. The wine feels ripe and fruity on the palate with dry-ish flavors of fresh yellow apples, some pithy grapefruit, a little bit of toasty autolysis and a honeyed hint of dosage punching through. The wine is quite racy with high acidity, but the mousse feels short, sharp and aggressive. The finish is bright and refreshing with medium-long flavors of steely minerality, pithy grapefruit bitterness, some tart green apples and a hint of bready autolysis.
This feels like a very mundane and generic entry-level Champagne that no-one is even supposed to pay attention to. The nose is a disappointment on its own, not even smelling of Champagne but instead some cheap no-name sparkling wine - fortunately the wine tastes more like Champagne, although lacking quite a bit of depth and complexity. Only the refreshing acidity and sense of structure are quite nice here, otherwise this wine is lacking badly all the characteristics I look for in a good Champ. Underwhelming effort, overpriced at 39,90€.

This wasn't obviously flawed, but it may have been a bit past its prime; it was a 375 that may have been hanging around the retail store a bit too long. It had some pleasant minerality and floral notes, but there was little to no citrus left. Drinkable and pleasant, but nothing special.

Pale appley yellowish color with a faint green hue. Quite expressive and slightly developed nose with aromas of tangerine-driven sweet citrus fruits, floral jasmine, some autolytic brioche character, a little bit of nuttiness and a hint of ripe yellow stone fruit. The wine feels full-bodied, dry and quite fruity with dosage pushing through a little bit as an exaggerated feel of sweet ripeness. There are flavors of very ripe and soft yellow apple, some honeyed sweetness and a little bit of brioche autolysis. The mousse feels fine and quite persistent, but also a bit flabby and lacking in energy. The structure is well in balance with the fruit and the dosage, thanks to the high acidity. The finish is quite long with flavors of fresh citrus fruits, some chalky minerality and a hint of bready autolysis.
A well-made and balanced, but also a very ripe, fruit-forward and predictable Champagne. The wine is actually so safe and predictable it comes across as rather boring - there is no character to keep one interested for more than a few sips. I actually thought this was a Franciacorta based on the high level of ripeness, somewhat noticeable dosage and sense of sweet yellow fruits. Not particularly bad as a champagne, only oh so very boring. There are so many better bubblies to be had at 39,90€.

Wine Tasting Weekend; 6/7/2014-6/8/2014 (My Place - Washington, DC): Light gold color. Golden and green apples on the nose, mixing with sweet flowers. Orange peel, apricot and grapefruit on a medium-bodied frame with fine bubbles. Fresh acid, not super tangy or aggressive, but not soft either. Much as it has been. Given the great wines we enjoyed over the past 36 hours, this tastes a tad sweet and somewhat coarse. Even thought this is in celebration of a special day, since we’ve tasted some exquisite wines (and spent so much money), I opted for something celebratory, but inexpensive. At any rate, it fills the glass with bubbles which, for any special, is all that is asked of it.

This isn’t really just the second bottle of this that we’ve opened, but rather just the second one I’ve bothered to write up. Like the first, its color is “light, almost silver, but nevertheless light yellow color with a lively but not long lived mousse” but this bottle has a stronger stream of bubbles. Nevertheless, they are “a bit coarse.” The nose is not so much about “green apple, toast and yeast” all of which are present, but more about hazelnut shading to ... could it be? .... oxidation? By itself and without food, as this wine was, the oxidation really comes through while the sweetness hangs more in the background. On a very snowy and icy Monday with TSTM closed (which is very rare) as we sit and read. Recommended with reservations, leaning strongly toward Not Recommended.

A light, almost silver, but nevertheless yellow gold color with a lively but not long lived mousse along with a somewhat weak stream of bubbles. The bubbles themselves were a bit coarse. More green apple, toast and yeast on the attack than anything else. While the acidity is well positioned, the sweetness of the wine (this must be on the sweeter end of the brut continuum) quickly comes through. The apple notes carry off into the finish. Much more of a “cocktail” Champagne than the Dumangin rosé. It fades before the power of the food. With Christmas dinner of crab strudel, country ham, boiled shrimp, sweet potato pudding, cranberry sauce, country biscuits and asparagus. Recommended with reservations.

We opened Piper Heidsieck NV and Nicolas Feuillatte NV together for a comparison. While both lacked the depth on the palate that you would associate with Bollinger or Roederer, the Piper had a good biscuity nose of vanilla, while the Feuillatte semlt very neutral in comparison. On the palate, the Piper had better length and was more secondary with nice biscuit flavours. The NF was more apple-based and one dimensional but still well-made.
Overall, it's worth paying a bit more for PH as the NF only provides the primary fruit flavours that one can find in top-notch cava.

Displays a honey gold appearance, a small, lazy bead, and moderate mousse. Apples, pears, sweet pie spices, and trace amounts of toast and honey on the nose. Tense, compact, and linear, with crisp, citrus acidity, spiky bubbles, medium complexity, a lick of salt, and crushed rock minerality on the long finish. It takes a bit of air for the champagne elements of toast and yeast to make a noticeable appearance, but if you wait you may not have many bubbles left in your glass.
Went through quite a few bottles of this at the July 4th festivities. Really solid and consistent - crowd pleasing, yet quite uneventful. My main complaint here is that for half the price plenty of other non champagne sparklers can deliver similar results.

Nose of green apple and lemon zest. Vary aromatic. Palate of green apples, lemons and is a little tart towards the finish. Some flower notes as well and a little sweetness like graham crackers that complements well the acidity. Liked it quite a bit. Pairs well with Saint Andre, Brie and Roquefort.

Opened my third and last bottle on 1/1. Consistent with previous comments...perhaps a little too sweet. Left 2 glasses worth in the bottle in the fridge until 1/3. Still plenty of energy/bubbles but the flavor and sweetness was both toned down and overall much better. Pleasantly surprised.

This solid champagne aged for three years begins on a honey and citrus note, deepening to include apple, pear, almond, hazelnut and mushroom. This champagne is made from a blend of 40 percent Pinot Noir, 20 percent Chardonnay and 40 percent Pinot Meunier grapes. Though richly textured, it has a firm backbone of acidity. On par with more expensive champagnes. This wine is an excellent value for a true champagne. A good go-to champagne for the holiday season.

Christmas family dinner 2017:
1. Nicolas Feuillatte Brut Reserve (89p) - 2 bottles
92 points Parker sticker on both bottles. 40% Pinot Noir - 40% Petit Meunier - 20% Chardonnay. My favourite NV Champagne in the 20€ price range. Yeasty, nuts, brioche and lemon notes. Outstanding given the 20€ I paid for each bottle.
2. Molitor Rüdesheimer Schlossberg Spätlese Trocken 2015 (91p) - 3 bottles
WOTN for most of us. Young, but ready to drink: On the palate stonefruit, peach, slate with well integrated RS and acidity. Juicy, savoury, and dry at the same time.
3. Jean Stodden Spätburgunder Alexander 2016 (85p) - 1 bottle
This typical German Pinot Noir is quite different from its French or US relatives, which I usually prefer. Light transparent red, almost orange (Aperol!) colour, herbal nose. Herbs on palate with licorice, cherries and wood. Tough job to compete with other wines this evening.
4. Scheiblhofer Big John 2015 (89p) - 1 Magnum
3h decant.
5. Chateau Fieuzal 2008 (90p) - 3 bottles
3h decant. Had this Bordeaux also at our last family dinner and my notes are still the same:
Kirsch and coffee nose.

Perhaps a bit too tropical focused with not quite the acidity or dryness I would've expected from a brut. Straight forward, no flaws and if you enjoy the style, a good value. Very consistent Champagne and always a winner at 18€.
40% Pinot Noir, 40% Pinot Meunier, 20% Chardonnay. The Brut Réserve is aged for at least 3 years.
A bit more yeasty than I remembered, some citrus fruits and hints of brioche and nuts.

Celebrating best friends newborn! (Sundbyberg): (Disgorged in 2013, two years extra cellaring) Light yellow colour with a youthful nose showing hazelnuts, nougat and lemon. Palate shows a fresh lemon taste with a short but pleasant finish. Maybe a bit weak palate, but better than expected. Best with 1-3 years extra cellaring.

Citrusy and yeasty on the nose, ripe green apples. Nice, though slightly coarse bubbles, fresh, balanced sweetness. A perfectly decent middle-of-the-road champagne, in an easy-drinking, though somewhat commercial style.

Au nez, c'est bien franc, net, majoritairement sur la pomme. Simple mais invitant.
La bouche est vive, bien droite, la bulle est fine & la texture bien "lisse". Bonne longueur. Petite touche sucrée. Simple mais rafraîchissant.
Très agréable.

Tasted blind.
