Wow wow wow. This was just stunningly good. Still has the bubbles and that more mature caramel and nuttiness. Just delicious! Perfect contemplative late afternoon sipper on the porch ‘christianing’ with good friends. A special treat and memory.

2017 New York Wine Experience Trip; 10/16/2017-10/25/2017 (New York City, NY): This golden elixer is a blend of 67% Pinot Noir and 33% Chardonnay. It retains a respectable tiny bead considering its age, and serves up and intense olfactory experience. Dried fruits, roasted almonds, honeysuckle, toast and mineral aromas are followed by similar flavors on a vibrant palate. There is more tactile activity on the tongue than would be anticipated based upon the visible bubble activity. The back end seems to go on and on. This bottle (ex-château) was amazingly youthful and delicious. Comparably cellared bottles should provide pleasure for at least another five years. Drink now-2022.

Veuve Clicquot 1979/1989 (Chez Schmidt - Chicago IL): Lots of mushroom and earth, faint traces of fruit or textural energy. Lots of toast and yeast. Others enjoyed this more than I did today. Not even close to another bottle (from same case?) tasted two years ago.

BYO (Birkerød): Very impressive bottle. Lots of aged flavors and a solid acidity. Showing very nicely for its age and a lot better than I had originally expected! Lovely flavors of nuts, red/brown apples and perhaps a touch of chocolate.

1982 Bordeaux Tasting and Dinner (Sunset Ridge Country Club - Northfield IL): Very nicely matured Champagne with ripe apple and roasted nut aromas and flavors and lots of age appropriate Chardonnay character throughout. I'm not always a fan of aged Champagne, but this was easy to enjoy, although others might have enjoyed it even more tonight.

initial taste and color suggested oxidation. Time to breath and open proved worthwhile as the nuttiness and caramel were exposed with ever so slight bubbles of delight.

Rare Wine Dinner (Sydney, Australia): The nose was appealing complex, with sea spray and seaweed, graphite, honey and floral notes. Some seriously impressive cleansing acidity on the palate gave the wine vibrancy and driving focus. While it didn't have the depth of the Krug served by its side, it was equally enjoyable in its own style and should hold for some time based on this bottle.

Shared with our generous friend. This bottle had been purchased on an american airlines flight in the early eighties and then stored at room temp for the last 25 years. Remarkably, the wine was absolutely perfect. Dark golden colour with delicate mousse. Gorgeous nose of honey, hazelnuts, hints of orange marmalade and just a touch of oxdisation but incredibly fresh. Wonderful champagne and adored by everyone.

The Petrus Excuse (Eleven Madison Park): Served with Seafood Bisque with Tomato Fumet and Tapioca Pearls. Exotic nose of confiture, dried peaches and apricots. Less unctuous on the palate than the nose would suggest but no less interesting. Lean on the entry and like sherry on the back end, but that's perfectly OK in Champagne. This is still fresh, with even the bubbles busy and vigorous.

1979 Veuve Cliqeot Ponsardin La Grande Dame, Champagne, France Light in color - much less evolved visually than what would be expected. Somewhat closed to begin with but opened up nicely with hints of bread, toast, and beer. In the mouth the wine was medium bodied with a nice texture and good concentration of fruit. Little in the was of bubbles left. Smooth and silky with a citrus lime component and a balanced aftertaste. Nice

Deep gold color, light bubbles. The nose was all toast, that yeasty, fresh smell when you take bread out of a toaster. The flavors included toast, almond and marzipan. A medium length finish. Fantastic champagne! This bottle directly from the Clicquot cellar. Note added on 5/18/08: this was the bottle that got us into Champagne. Such a beauty.

With MPL, BLR, Diane and Marne in celebration of Marne's 34th birthday at dinner at La Folie. Beautiful appearance. Golden straw color--and it's actually got legs! Thick ones! Beautiful tiny bead. Excellent chalky, yeasty nose is filled with character, and it jumps right out of the flute! Great. Rich, full-bodied palate. Creamy, lovely, just coats the tongue. Complex and lasts forever. Smooth, elegant finish. Very fine; one of the best I have ever had. 5-13-18-9: 95/100.

A little too sweet. Old school sherried champagne. Just a little lacking in minerality and acidity.

Thought an old Champagne would go nicely with Sushi and Sashimi but this is vinegar already. RIP.
