  • Very nice! Elegant and soft with beautiful floral and some savory notes. Glad I have these to open while older bottles continue to mature.

  • Oak spice, fresh cherry fruit, flowers, subtle herbal notes. Very very pretty.
Some oaky framing on the palate, juicy blackcurrant fruit - distinct Ribena quality! - very elegant with nice acidity and marked but very fine tannins on the finish.
    Yum.

  • Taking advantage of weekend-long fruit days, what an intense bouquet of spice, red fruit, honey, ethereal rose florals, ultra balanced vintage citrus, jammy acidity. "Dense and elegant" are how I described 08 Musigny from three years ago, and this bottle shows no less, with the citrus livening it all up. It is so ready that I suspect it gives the impression of being stronger and more complete than when I drank the Musigny; ever so lightly drier tannin perhaps, but the heat is so deep and structure so large. Sweet silky finish with all the precision. At the very least this preserves all the attractive fruity quality, so perhaps the Musigny at this stage is even meatier, bigger and more stunning. What juice went in here? The ultimate sweet and sour. 95

  • Classic Chambolle village in the lighter weight Mugnier style. The nose needed a few minutes to present itself but I found the initial attack in the mouth quite forceful. Pure reds fruits of detail and precision on the palate with just a touch of green /unami /thyme savory elements now, but with no sense of under ripeness. Dried florals also - roses and violets. Plentiful bright acid with some gentle pepperiness/spice keeping the wine fresh. Subtly long finish. Demands a little focus/attention perhaps to appreciate its full beauty. Fine at least. Consensus in our group was there is absolutely no hurry at all to drink this.

  • Tasted over 2 hrs
-nearly semi-translucent med dark red mild bricking
-moderately expressive bright red cherry with a hint of sousbois and pepper
-med+ acidity, med/med- weight tart cherry bitter note and faintly creamy on the finish with med/med- tannins
-acidity is a bit more prominent than ideal

  • Medium-bodied, fresh, lively, soft, elegant, refined and ready to go, the wine offers a beautiful sense of purity in its sweet, red berries and pit fruits. I like the wine. i will never understand the price.

  • Another magic moment from Mugnier. Splendidly pure, a diamond cut and so incredibly detailed. On the nose you can only dream of such beautiful roses, mingling and dancing with red small berries, spice, hint of coffee bean, mineral and on the palate it is as if all these were wrapped in a gorgeous and transparent magic wrap. Until the very last drop, this had its gorgeous poise and only improving as the bottle went down. Superb. Cheers,

  • 8 years down from the last bottle, this has really developed quite nicely. Still youthful, but this was a real charmer. The nose was rather ephemeral, first blushing out of the glass, and then receding a bit over the hour or so we had it; but when it was blooming, wow. Floral, perfumed, with violets and sweet cherries and blueberries, and then touch of sous bois, and just that shade of fragrant wood spice. Wonderful, heady stuff. The palate was a bit of a step behind, quite the true 2008, with a lovely transparent purity to its dark cherry and blueberry flavours, which was both very Mugnier and very 2008, but also had some of the leaner feel of the vintage, with the structure of fine tannins and bright acidity sticking out like rib bones in the midst of the fleshier fruit tones. Decent finish though, with a nice linger of gentle spice, mineral and lightly floral notes. Lovely stuff, even if it was still a bit tight. I would love to try this in a few years time - the 2008s seem to be just starting to wake up.

  • couldn't figure out whether I liked this a lot or a little... pretty angular over two days and I like that generally but it was at time just a bit over the top on acidity / shrillness... was Ok when I saw it was my last bottle... I would drink up before the angularity overtakes what fruit and spice is left

  • It’s always special to drink a fine Chambolle. This bottle epitomizes the concept. Elegant aromatics of red fruit, roses, fresh green herbs, lightly moistened earth and just the barest hint of decaying leaves, are followed up by a wonderfully lively palate presence. The fresh acidity invigorates me, and causes my mouth to water for the next sip. Suddenly half the bottle is gone, and I really don’t know where it went. Magic, evaporating Chambolle Musigny!

  • WOTN for me, this nose just made me weak in the knees. So perfumed, sexy, light, deep. Beautifully perfumed on the palate as well. Just irresistible.

  • On nose, showed red fruit and flower. Elegant style. Soft and light on palate with good acidity and finess. Quality like a premier cru.

  • Love the Mugnier style...elegance over weight. Started a little muted...almost diluted. After a vigorous decant wine's fruit was coaxed out and added to brilliance. Drinking way above village level. Will wait on my other two bottles...a little.

  • Opened upon arrival at Tilia and started drinking about 90 minutes in. I think people can be underwhelmed by the lack of size and girth absent Mugnier's wines. This does need to flesh out some more but, personally, I love the feather weight elegance purity and minerally tart red fruit flavors. Mugnier Chambolle and etherealness are synonymous. 2 left. Drink the next btl 2020+. Same btl as Rocknroller.

  • Lonny Might Be Turning Sixty (Tilia, Mpls): Light-medium red color. Slow-O for 1.5hrs. Drank a 1.75 oz pour over 45 minutes. Cherry and cranberry fruit, somewhat reticent mid palate, light medium body, gripping tannins, tight and firm. This could use some time also. 89(+)pts.

  • Very pure flavours. Deep Cherry. Not a lot of volume. I think this will gain in weight over the next 2-3 years. Balanced acidity. Tannins are almost resolved so it can be approached.

  • Mature red cherry aromas and flavors with hints of dried rose petals and dried thyme. Light and elegant with very good+ length for its level and a charming weightlessness. Best to enjoy over the next 5 years.

  • This drank excellent. The wine has really evolved over the last few years in the bottle. Still gorgeously pure but now developing some secondary flavors. Loved the minty notes on the nose. Sure wish I bought a lot more of this!

  • the best bottle of this I have had, and much improved since 2014... this was - interestingly - best on the pnp, it was a little closed down on night two and then a little better on night three (though by then it had some real oxidative notes, I had gassed it both nights), on the pnp there was light bright red cherries and a tingling acidity with just a hint of spice, a really elegant village wine profile with just that nice / modest edge of acid and spice, softened up after that, good bottle and I think this may improve as it feels to be just finished its sleep and oak absorption

  • Distinctive nose of violet, cherry, raspberry, nettle, talc, baking spice. Light-medium bodied; it blends power with a weightless quality that is unmistakable. Saline and cinnamon-tinged finish with notable length.
Drinks well now with some air, but there is enough in reserve to suggest it can be held in the near term. Now to 2026+.

  • Not fully ready but getting close. Red fruit but with some restraint. Enjoyable none the less. A very elegant wine but needs a bit more volume. Right now it's still a bit shy.

Litt striks munnfølelse - Ikke noe Chambolle-smoothie her.

  • After about five hours or so in the decanter, this really came together. Dark fruit mineral nose, very Chambolle on the palate, with dark berry and plum, spice, integrated wood, a touch of rusticity at the back end. Not silk and lace, just Mugnier in style. This remains a work in progress, no rush to drink. About a case left, I'll hopefully have the patience to sample these yearly over the next 10-12 years.

  • had over two days, wine is not in a good place right now… mostly wood on both nights, and fruit was virtually non-existent, there was some perfume on the nose on night one but none on the palate, wonder if this is going to sleep, will try to wait 3-5 yrs for my next

  • Another Saturday at Knightsbridge - mostly blind (Northbrook, IL): Tasted twice today. First from a bottle open several days prior, gassed and refrigerated since. All red fruit, leaner styled. Bright red cherry flavors, very well textured. Elegant. Long for its level. 90 points.

Second bottle was served blind. Popped and decanted, this showed so much sulfur that we poured it into glasses and waiting ~1 hour. Sulfur mostly dissipated aromatically, but left a lingering flavor. Similar red fruit, similarly lacy like the earlier bottle, just odd.

  • First mugnier's musigny and little bit disappointed regarding my last experience of amoureuse.
    But great nose and body.

  • Unlike other '08s which are starting to become a little leaner and more reserved, this one seems to have actually put on some weight since my last few bottles. Maybe it's not quite as graceful, since the structure is also thickening up a little, but it's still super-drinkable - and the fruit is just as fresh and floral as it was on day one.

  • I think this is finally hitting its stride. Past bottles had come off as a bit primary, concentrated, and masculine. Now, this is refined and focused, elements of crushed berries and rock ooze, it is concentrated but evolved. Nice dancing spice and minerality. Long on the midpalate and finish. Ends with dark fruit and a subtle herbal note, which screams Burgundy rather than West Coast spreadable fruit. I've a little over a case left -- it'll be tough to lay off them.

  • Been a little over a year since I last tasted this beauty. This is a relatively dark fruited and big Chambolle -- no silk and lace here, at least today. Burnt rubber, dark stone fruit nose -- almost a little northern Rhone-esque. Dark spicey fruit on the palate, a bunch of acid and a touch of youthful austerity too, even after two hours in the decanter. I'd continue to cellar this one, no doubt. Revisit in a year or so.

  • Keller Rieslings + Chambolle-Musignys! (Jade Palace Seafood Restaurant): The 2008 Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier Chambolle-Musigny is ruby in colour with garnet hues. On the nose, it expresses slight soy sauce and chewy black chinese tea leaves with underlying red fruit aromas of dark cherries and raspberries. The palate is very pleasant with smooth silky tannins and flavours of chinese tea leaves, darker raspberries and cranberries. There're an underlying dirt and wet soil notes on the palate as well. A rich and powerful wine yet expressing a gentle elegance.

  • drank over three nights, night one the palate was too oaky, night two that had faded and it was a very nice CM but not as light on it's feet as i would prefer, there was a richness that isn't what i think of when drinking CM, that said a good wine

  • Incredibly tight and primary, nice wine underneath but needs time. Deeper and more brooding than some chambolle. Serious wine.

  • This is simply wonderful!. The nose is slightly aromatic, with spice and red fruit, and it has a slightly masculine feel, but in a very pure and clear 2008 way. There is also a little meatiness mixed in with the bright red fruit, and a slight aromatic wood hint. In the mouth, the fruit is cool and bright, with a deep red cherry, cologne, and a slight blood/broth perception. The swallow is delicious, pure, and persistent.

  • Dinner with Mark Roberson of Goedhuis (Jade Palace, Forum Galleria): Frankly a bit expensive for a village at current prices, but then again, this is a village that consistently punches above its weight - the 2008, in particular, was beautiful. It had such a lovely nose. Rather unusually meaty, with a good amount of earth and mineral thrown in, but there were lifted aromas of dark cherries and a perfume of dried flowers above that - really beautiful. I loved the palate too. Pure, balanced, with a wonderful elegance in its silky tannins and crystal clear flavours of dark cherries seasoned with tiny touches of spice and earth. Juicy 2008 acidity ran through the midpalate, keeping the wine ever so lively and focused. Delicious stuff. The finish showed a bit of the wine's youth, still marked as it was by fine but firm tannins, with a hint of flowers floating around a long line of minerality. Such a lovely wine. Not the most complex, nor the deepest - one would not confuse with Mugnier's 1er Crus for instance - but absolutely enjoyable to drink. Given a bit of time, say a 4-5 years, it should get even better.

  • In love with this wine & producer. Yes its young, with lord knows, a decade + in the bottle, but I wouldn't call it undrinkably tight as others have, and find much to enjoy now.
Sadly I only bought two bottles instead of a case.

The color is a striking ruby red, mostly clear and vibrant.
The nose is a an amazing wealth of bright cherry, earth, herbs, cinnamon.
The mouth is bright and dancing with vibrancy. Cherry, pomegranate, cranberry, earthiness. Loads of acidity.
Softened a bit with some air, but stilil remarkably similar day 2.

Buy some and put it away for 3-10+ years.

  • Light in color, well balanced; an incredibly approachable effort for a young village wine. Drunk next to the '08 Dujac C-M that was much darker in color, and completely closed.

  • Pretty massive village Chambolle. Red fruits, flowers, rocks, a trace of cotton candy on the nose. Palate speaks more of black and blue fruit. Very primary with lots of dry extract. Surprisingly big -- put on a lot of weight with air. A pretty wine early on, power with some weight after a few hours. I'll hold the rest of my bottles -- this has huge potential. Makes the Mugnier NSG 2008 look rather simple in comparison.

  • Popped & poured 1st glass about an hour in on day 1. Very, very...very wound up & tight at this point. Fruit fairly submerged. Mostly structure right now. Shows the terrific Mugnier purity, balance and elegance. Hint of strawberries there. But, desperately needs at least 3yr if not more. Even tighter on night # 2. HOLD!

  • Immediately a delightful and airy Chambolle nose of red fruits. In the mouth refined and pure. A bit tight and develops very slowly with air. Decent lenght. Fleshy and classy mouthfeel. After 4 days in the fridge this has become just wonderful with a really nice complexity. My style of wine.

  • Seriously impressive village Chambolle. In terms of texture and shape, there really isn't a hell of a lot of difference between this and one of Mugnier's Musignys. This is really a perfect example of the light touch that characterizes the Mugnier house style. The fruit complexion is a slightly plummy-tinged rouge and while it doesn't show its oak at first, some cedary accents become more prominent with a few hours air and eventually have a slightly drying effect -- but that's the only nit that keeps this from being essentially flawless.

  • Rocking good village juice. This wine changed significantly over time. Lots of cinnamon in the beginning that later gave way to roses and spice. Lovely Chambolle perfume on the nose. Very pure in style. In a word, awesome.

  • Fine Vines Fall Grand Tasting (OneSixtyBlue, Chicago IL): nose: aromatic and hi-toned with notes of cherries, red fruits, fresh picked berries and raspberries. Nice balance and depth though on the tight side.

taste: pretty medium body with medium+ acidity. Good depth for the level with tones of red fruits, spices, cherries, some roses and fresh picked berries.

overall: this is a real pretty wine that is on the deceptive side right now. It's aromatic and pretty, but there is much more that it can give. Needs some time to unfold and show off the nuance.

  • Served alongside the 08 Vogue Chambolle Villages. Beautiful aromatics of dark red berries with some savory herb and touches of brown spice in the background. Nice floral notes. Great expansive red fruit on the palate with a very firm mineral backbone. Great balance with a moderate finish. Great comparison to the Vogue. While they are both fantastic wines from great producers and I'm glad to have both in the cellar, I always find Mugnier more ethereal and Vogue more hedonistic.

  • Ever so slightly corked. This was in fact quite drinkable, even though the faintly perceptible TCA had destroyed a good part of the fruitiness. So, I will hold the judgement for now, but at least this gave the impression that a clean bottle should be very nice.

  • Popped and poured, followed over three hours to cap off our week in Burgundy.

Exactly consistent with prior note. I find my taste leaning more and more to the lighter style of burgundy, less extraction, less oak, less whole cluster. Some would drink this as a picnic wine, and not even notice it. But the purity and subtlety are fantastic.

It also made an interesting comparison to the 2008 Roumier CM that we enjoyed a few days earlier. That one also had great purity, but was much more sappy and intense. At this point, I couldn't say which I preferred. Both were truly excellent.

  • Popped and poured, followed over the night. Very light colored, crystal clear. Tremendously pure light red fruited nose leaps out of the glass. The mouthfeel is more intense than the color would suggest. Still relatively light-fruited, it has an impressively vibrant personality. Medium body, medium/long finish. For me, purity is the word. Excellent villages wine.

I enjoyed this, my first Mugnier. Did I like it even better than the delicious 2002 Digioia-Royer Chambolle two nights earlier? Yes, but certainly not twice as much, its pricing premium. Maybe with six years plus of age, the difference would be more obvious, so the comparison is a bit apples and oranges. Regardless, I love Chambolle!

  • Domaine Tasting at J.F. Mugnier (Burgundy, France): From bottle at the Domaine. Dark, earthy red berries with nice spice. Hints of sweet herb as well. Mineral backbone. Expansive on the palate with a wonderful balance of acidity and minerality. Lengthy finish for a Villages. Great Village level wine and I can't wait to see where this goes in the future.

  • Shows a little spicy oak at first but breathes to emit all sorts of ethereal smells. There’s pomegranate, cherries, dried flowers and violets. It is fine and lacy in the mouth and crammed with red berries laced with floral tones. It is a very pretty wine that finishes with a sour cherry snap leaving a fine mineral footprint.

  • J-F Mugnier Cellar Visit and Tasting (Chambolle-Musigny): Tasting at domaine. Classic and charming smells and flavors of Chambolle-Musigny. Delicate and subtle to start, this picks up weight and spice towards the middle and finish. Really good acidity, energy and minerality. Often my favorite Villages wine from Chambolle-Musigny, probably a strong contender again in 2008. I probably prefer this to its 2009 counterpart tasted earlier.
