Immediately immensely pleasurable. Quite dark coloured visually. Wafting of roses and dark chocolate, it's a little fruit bomb in the mid palate and while it couldn't keep up in complexity with the other 08s (GE, RSV and Tache) it had that immediate pleasure going for it while you just noted that the other will repay years in bottle more. If you have this there is no crime to enjoy it today and in fact I would probably drink it now-2035.

Magnificent opening, the nose with dark and rich fruit, the attack has vibrancy and loads of fruit but the acidity stays in check. Marvelous transparency and breed. With some time in the glass it shuts down, and one sees some fraying at the edges. Still a pleasing wine.

Starts out spritzy (et tu, DRC?) and we weren't equipped to do the Mollydooker shake at the restaurant so just gave it a lot of aggressive swirling to chase out the gas. Maybe 15 minutes later it's in the zone. Terrifically dense fruit especially for the vintage where many others are losing freshness but this still has loads of richness, grip, and gloss in its dark blue fruit tones. Serious gravitas here. The muscular tannins and the stemmy spine keep everything packed in quite densely; you can feel an immense amount of torque. It still needs a good amount of time before it pops but that didn't stop the flavors and aromas from getting nice and expressive with some airtime, the green stem segueing to Vosne cinnamon and spice.

An intoxicating aroma of floral spice, Hoisin and soy. The palate is mid-weight, red fruited and cut by minerally acidity. It is silky of texture, immaculately balanced and fans out on the finish. It is persistent and in a beautiful place right now.

Purchased at a restaurant; this was absolutely stellar; the nose was a bit stemmy initially, but that blew off quickly to show very ripe dark and red berry fruits, loads of spices, a hint of pepper from stems, floral notes; the intensity on the nose was impressive; very little if any sign of secondary notes; the palate was pure harmony, rich fruit and a melange of spices with a lovely weightless feel despite the concentration of the flavor; definitely best 08 I've had and best Echezeaux. This was drunk alongside a Dujac Clos St Denis 2016 which was excellent, but this was simply on another level in comparison.

An explosive nose of potpourri, red currant, perfume, vosne spice and flowers. Palate is alluring and layered with mesmerizing red fruit sweetness. The 08 Echezeaux is absolutely and consistently gorgeous.

Super expressive spicy aromatics. Shows '08 vintage character with it's mid-weight, elegant palate. Love the nose here and it's similarly expressive vs. a recent bottle of '08 La Tache, but the La Tache clearly benefits on the palate from it's natural power in the leaner vintage.

Quite pretty, if not necessarily complex. Light spice and floral notes here contrast with the approachable red fruit. A good showing for the '08. 92-93

Another great bottle of 08 drc. Spice, stems, flowers, red fruit and dark fruir on the nose and palate. It has the reference point DRC structure and niance. It keeps evolving in the glass. Very good as always. Love 08 DRC.

Exotic spice and oak set this apart. Silky smooth, cinnamon color, full of flavor. More new world but still delicious. Worth $80 - $100. Will go 10 more years but entering the sweet spot now. Yum.

It’s always a pleasure drinking DRC, even at their entry level Echezeaux. Ex-Domaine bottle (released in 2015). Started off reductive and got better after an hour of decanting. Soft bouquet of fresh red berries, earthy gravel, stemmy whole cluster perfumes and sweet raspberries. The green stemmy note reminds me 2007 Red Burgundy, not expected in 2008. Also, interestingly greener than the 2004 La Tache next to it. Structured backbone with bright new oak exotic spices, the taste of ‘premium’ new oak. At an awkward stage. (92-93/100)

Wonderful aromas immediately: roses, strawberries, candied red fruits. Needs decanting. Tight at first. After two hours the aromas come through as taste, which is supple and lasts for minutes. A bit of acidity and greenness sticks out. Slight bricking at the edge.

This wine strains my vocabulary, because all I can tell you was that it was complex, layered, and enigmatic. This was beautiful, but really only started strutting its stuff after 2.5 hours. I'm pretty sure this will be hitting its stride in 5 years, plus. The nose is powerful, hinting at red currant, spice, flowers, and underbrush, all of which come through on the palate. Add to that sage, orange peel, cherry, and sweat. Impressive, but a bit reserved for now.

At a tasting with AdV and this was the groups #2 wine. Amazing spices on the nose and palate - so complex with layers and layers. Cherry, cherry candy, bright red fruit - bursts of flavors as it rolls over the palate. Nuanced and approachable. Delicate yet delivers the iron fist. Great wine with upside

Spice, forest smoke, rich and ripe currant, cherry and blue fruit along with exotic aromas of rose hip and rose mallow, poppy, sweet fig, and tonka bean are the preludes for this amazing wine. Strong minerality, beautifully balanced, delicious in the mouth swirl, and tanatalizing throughout the finish, the best Echezeaux of the vintage.

Opened, had two glasses, vacuum sealed then had the rest on night 2. On night one, outstanding nose of spice, dark fruit, meat, spearmint and loads of stems. Dark ripe fruit on the palate. Nicely forward at this stage. Great depth. Long finish with pleasing backbone. On night two, the nose had dissolved into pickle juice and dark fruit. The palate remained but with a slight bitter note on the finish, but the nose really fell apart. This was all in 95 on night one, but less on night two.

Savoury elements dominate the nose, which is also a touch raw. A chewy, almost grainy texture, and the tannins do stand out here. There’s some agreeably tart red fruit, along with excellent minerality and earthiness.

Quite simply the best young DRC Echezeaux to have passed my lips. This is a wine that delights with perfumes and sensual textures. There’s an engaging scent of fresh roses, juniper berry, aniseed and red currants. It is a vinous tapestry woven from silk and flowers. There’s a touch of meatiness and the whole package is immaculately balanced. No crime in drinking one now and will be on my shortlist of one of the wines of the year

2008 Domaine De La Romanee-Conti Tasting (Beltramo's, Menlo Park Ca.): Amazing nose! As were all the 2008's....dusty exotic wood spiced, berry liquour-like, smoked cherry. Bright and fresh crushed red berry, pomegranate fruit in the mouth that's pure and alive with sour skin acidity, and a healthy dose of minerals. Lighter in body, but doesn't lack in flavor! Should gain with age.
