  • Christmas dinner - this was a great bottle of wine. Spices, dark and red fruits, so much balance with so much complexity. Texturally this is classic DRC - just velvet in the glass. Doesnt have the depth of other DRC wines but this is its own thing and the DRC fingerprints are very recognizable.

  • Lovely nose with tons of spices, strawberry notes, forest flavors, and underwood. The stems seem quite obvious but I like it. Good acidity on the palate with noticeable oak influence, more strawberries, red cherries, and forest notes. Long finish. A lovely wine that still feels very young and especially so on the palate. While the oak and stems are obvious, it doesn't feel unbalanced, just in need of more time. I would hold this for at least another 5 years. 94++

  • So much elegance. Benefitted from air/decant. Spices, red and dark fruits, texture is to die for, so much power and finesse. A kaleidoscope of scents and flavors continually changing and evolving. This was better than the last bottle by a hair. More complex and complete at this stage. At peak with a long ride ahead in the zone.

  • Super stemmy and loads of whole cluster notes on the nose. Almost pungent but in a good way. Very silky texture tannins are just velvet. Well integrated at this point. On the palate rich and voluptuous with bursting red fruits and spices. Overall very good but not the explosiveness of previous bottles. 93-94

  • Elegant stem, perfume aromatics. 1st cru weight, nothing more, nothing less. 1653/7899.

  • Leroy Field Trip; 2/11/2022-2/14/2022: 01653/7899. Opened at noon, served at 6. I’m not sure if this really needed all the air, but it was a beautifully perfumed 1er weight wine. Classic stem, reticent perfume, some roses, so bright with wonderful hue of coolness, true to its vintage. Consensus is this wine is declassified for a reason, the weight is no match for the other cuvées. With time in glass some bitterness emerged as well. 93

The nose is amazing, roses, floral, spices, gorgeous fruit, so complex and elegant. The palate is thin in the middle, probably the light vintage maybe, doesn’t have a ton of extraction, good freshness, the length is amazing and surprising. Very good despite not having the usual “DRC magic”.

  • A surprice for Peter’s birthday at “No.2” It was clearly DRC spice and elegant Vosne wine. Outstanding and always a good thing to surprice a good friend , who taste it with much joy. Last bottle of the Vosne 1. Cru from 2008

  • Served this time vis-avis La Tâche of the same year, and you do feel some of the same characteristics; the chalkyness and the airyness is here, it is very elegant, really embracing the year in the best possible sense. An old world wine, if I ever saw one.

  • Chalky, dusty, almost Loire-like - yet unmistakenly Pinot with a core of red, dancing fruit; great vertical structure, very old World, very elegant, great producer in a lean vintage.

  • At our Burgundy evening. 3 hours of air in the bottle before the dinner. A very pale color , Vosne-spice nose and elegant & mineral. Light fruit and a bit shy ( again as Bruno Clair...) 2 days after ( cool with cork ) it had turn out to be a wonderfull wine. Very elegant and much better than before...
Have one more and will wait...

  • 2018 Villa d’Este Wine Symposium – Kelly, RJ, Justin and Kevin's excellent adventure; 11/7/2018-11/11/2018 (Villa D’este, Lake Como): Beautiful color of pale red with a hint of orange that I associate with the vintage. Expressive exotic kinky ’08 DRC nose displaying bright candied red fruit, strawberry candy, cherry, candy, a hint of stem, cannabis, Vosne spice, already showing a hint of sous bois, cola and limestone mineral. Beautifully integrated energetic palate, finely layered candied red fruit, silky and lean, bright acidity, strong limestone mineral and a long candied red fruit driven finish with cannabis and stem at the end. It lacks the depth and concentration compare to the other wines but is drinking beautifully. I can easily drink a whole bottle without getting bored.

  • The great outing (Aalborg, Denmark): Cool, calm and collected with an almost cab franc like structure and style, but wait - right there is the pinot, the Burgundy en danseuse. Extremely elegant, femine and pleasing.

  • This was rocking right out of the bottle. Booming nose of Asian spices, cherry spice and red fruits. Classic DRC texture and silky tannins. Medium dark red color. On the palate loads of Vosne spices, cherries, red fruit and darker fruits. Hints of Black fruits. Overall this was impressive and it only got better over the 3 hour dinner.

  • This was killing it. Super perfumed nose, higher acid, but not overwhelming.

  • Lovely DRC nose and vosne spice. If there was one nit I thought it lacked a bit of ripeness to balance the stems and came across as slightly leafy. Very pleasant but without the depth. The price is totally silly on these nowadays...

  • Drank at 67
So this is the declassified grapes. You get the DRC nose with a slight lightness in the palate and not the peacock tail. It is still incredible and it just shows that DRC has beautiful terroir.

  • Underbar doft med hallon och körsbär, mineral, örter, skogsmark, lakrits och violer. Ett lätt och elegant vin med syrlig röd frukt, silkiga tanniner, frisk syra och långt fint slut

  • Pale and fresh -disguising a potent but delicate nose with hints of spice. Opened for 1 hour but not decanted. On the palate sour raspberry flavour and some Indian spice etc. No real weight yet. Lots of length. Delicious but best years ahead. Lacking X factor typical of DRC.

  • 2008 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Cuvée Duvault-Blochet

Medium bright red in color, with a tone / hint of brown / aging edge. Clear.
Wonderfull nose, herb garden, gentle modest spices, soft sour red berries and an underlying tone of summer fresh sweetness, I can not stop to smell.
With a little time, a hint of forest floor, spring forest and wood.
A bit like the wines we had earlier witch you can not take away from the nose.
Nice fresh fruit, sour raspberry rolls through your mouth. Mild spices. Round fine tannins bites well at the end. Balanced, fit and medium complexity, medium deep.
It is certainly an enchanting wine, providing plenty of fruit, good varied tastes, exciting, with trilling corners in the taste picture. One should perhaps not use "but" in these cases, but I have to mention that it feels a little lighter than some of the ohter DRC I have tasted. One can feel a "great / super" burgundy in the glass, all though not taking it all the way to heaven, still very very close. This is like hammering through delicious meter-deep Norwegian westcoast powdersnow a cold january day, drop a 10m cliff, landing it as if it were no stress. And then you think back on the previous season, remembering the day when it was 10cm more snow, light as in Alaska and flying a little bit longer. This is still great.

  • A bit restrained - red fruits.

  • Casual (Mostly) Italian Wine Dinner with Friends (Paris Club - Chicago IL): Open several hours earlier to give a few hours of air. Started somewhat restrained and almost austere, more red berry and baking spice emerged with more time in glass. Subtle tannins are very charming, acidity slightly pronounced. Moderate intensity and length.

  • Wonderfully aromatic - indeed perfumed - nose of fine and penetrating red fruits, roses and subtle spices. Has great finesse: I couldn't stop sniffing it. Fantastic.

Palate - Very fine; tight, long, elegant and refined, with tremendous definition and class. Textbook linearity - a fabulous long and penetrating palate that comes to a very fine and detailed point, with concentrated red fruits, some pot pourri and occasional hints of asparagus or lovely complex celery nuances. Needed breathing time (2 hrs in decanter helped considerably). Loved its confident and dignified 13% alcohol. No brutish high alcohol levels to detract from its elegance.

A superb, fine-grained and elegant wine of obviously great breeding. Has real presence without being boisterous; all class and with that star quality. If it were a person, heads would turn and stare as he/she walked into the room. Another fine 2008 and a superb example of my style of wine. 94-95 points (Updated notes after finding my scribbles from the night).

  • Pretty typical ’08, red fruit dominant. Lighter in color. Elegant style. Some smoke, nice red fruits on the nose. So so depth. Nice flavors. Some similarities to some Oregon pinots

  • I had completely forgotten I had this bottle a year ago. Exactly the same experience. Much better with a lot of air. This used to be a nice value...

  • Klar, dyp rød med lett oransjestikk. Noe stilkete på nese med preg av gul paprika og rips samt toner av appelsinskall og urter.
Bløt, lett tørrende frukt med noe hult midtparti. Frisk, spiss syre. Tørr utgang med mild bitterhet mot appelsinskall. Grei lengde.
    Ikke topp flaske.

  • From a restaurant list. This is not a heavyweight by any stretch, but its a very pleasing wine that is drinkable early. Light, soft, spicy fruit.

  • I am really happy my friend suggested opening this 8 hours in advance. I wasn't that impressed with the last bottle I had, but the additional air time really made a difference. Wonderful nose of spice, red fruit, a bit of earth and every so often a whiff of stems. The palate matched with great complexity and emphasis on the spice. Long finish with great grip. Really nice and clearly will last for a long time.

  • GJE CRD 2008 and EP 2011; 3/29/2012-4/4/2012 (Bordeaux, France): The color of Rose but what an explosive nose. The deceptive color reminds me a GC Truchot. Light strawberry jam, raspberry, exotic spice and a hint of licorice. The palate is airy yet there is strong presence of very sweet fruit. I noticed a bit of fizziness also in the 08 La Tache. Lovely showing.

  • After having all the 2008 GC's last year at a tasting...this is the only one we didn't get to try, so I was really looking forward to it. Decanted for a couple hours...the first thing I was looking for was that killer exotic dusty spiced nose that ALL the GC's had......and YES...there it is! Amazing and distinct dusty white pepper, cherry liqueur nose....I think we snift this wine more than drank! Very translucent, almost lite bodied, but still plenty of flavor....bright crunchy raspberry, cherry fruit...earth dust, sweet florals, some stem, oak, good tart acid. Lighter than the GC's...but shows its pedigree. I'd drink that any day!
