Bottle was a little tired. Decently transparent; not cloudy. The nose showed a little melancholy but the palate showed roses and length. Not the best 76 but sound and nuanced.

Tasted blind, this wine had a light red center with brown, tawny rims. The medium intensity nose put forth plums, cherries, and tan spices. It was held back by just a faint stewed character.
In the mouth, this was light bodied and clearly fully mature. It had almost no tannin and light acidity.
This was lovely but likely to crash and burn soon. Drink up.

Tasted blind after 5+ hours of air, this wine had a deep red center with tawny rims. The medium+ intensity nose offered up dried cherries, honey comb, rhubarb, and asian spices. It was fascinating.
In the mouth, this wine was incredibly silky with light tannins and firm acidity. The balance was excellent and the length was very good.
I was certainly very surprised when I saw the label. A great ringer that was at its peak of maturity. This was a solid 95 and arguably 96 points.

4.5cm ullage, but solid provenance. Another aging Burg with lower fill that drank really well. Gorgeous aromas right off the bat. Ever so slightly fading dry fruit and spices, with layers of secondary/tertiary flavors. Only nit was the slightly chunky tannins, which I suppose is indicative of the vintage. Great bottle, although I wouldn't hold these much longer (along w/ most '76 red Burgs I've had recently).

La Paulee 2015: Who woulda thunk? I had this in the cellar since mid 1980's, one of the original wines I bought. It was a risky choice to open as fill was a touch low and color of dark tea. However, upon opening aromas wafted upwards in an amazingly encompassing way that reminded me why I love Burgundy so much. Cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, clover, dried black cherry, and so much more. Palate was alive and had a lovely sweet edge with completely integrated layers of delicate flavors. Finish was light, but elegant. This is what Burgundy is all about for me.

La Paulée de New York Gala Dinner (Metropolitan Pavilion - New York NY): Served at Paulee from a bottle Ken bought at release. I fortunately got to taste this 3 times over 30 minutes. One of my highlights of the night, this was shockingly fresh, displaying lots of red berry and cherry with great spice throughout. Layers kept unfolding.

Leflaive & DRC Dinner (The Ledbury, London): a well structured wine that was showing some fading strawberry fruit and some earthy mushroom flavors. loved the well balanced wine, drank younger than expected

At first, I wondered whether this was starting to fade a little compared to the 76 GE served alongside it which was so vibrant. However, with time in the glass, it really picked itself up beautifully. Smooth palate with refreshing acidity and a core of really sweet red fruit accompanied by some blackberries and sous bois. Excellent and clearly got weightier with more time in the glass.

Perhaps the finest DRC I have ever had. This was made during the period DRC was still farming the RSV parcel for the heirs of the Marey-Monge family, who at one time owned the RSV in its entirety (DRC subsequently acquired the plot in 1988). Like many of the vintage's reds, 1976 DRCs have good concentration but hard tannins that never seem to come around. But on this night, this '76 RSV was so seductive and regal. Rose petals, cherry liqueur nose. Intense ripe, sweet red fruits, round, expansive, seductive, and haunting. It was like opening a chest full of great memories. Very long, youthful, and still full of promise.

Romanee St.-Vivant Dinner (Sepia - Chicago IL): The group’s wine of the flight. I don’t have great notes since I got the last pour and our server hadn’t yet calibrated pour sizes correctly. So mostly based on what others said, it was both mature but vibrant, really showing nice baking spice and flavor density.

Romanee St. Vivant Dinner at Sepia (Chicago IL): Had next to '76 Leroy RSV and this blew it away. Darker color and fresher dark fruits. Tons of sweet baking spice on the nose and palate. Surprisingly youthful, in fact even more so than the '86 DRC RSV which was in this same flight. Best aromatics, mouthfeel, and finish of the three.

La Paulee bottle. This was one of our better old burgs in a night of excess. it held it's own with the 72 noellat richebourg and was an interesting comparison with the 91,92, and 96 drc rsv. Fully mature with a nose that makes you postpone tasting. Spices - all of them. Silky smooth and fully appreciated despite the hectic pace. wish i had more

A great bottle. Flowers, spice, tea, sweet red currant and perfume. Still young and fresh with high acidity. So silky and pretty.

Underrated vintage, nearly as good as 76 today. Love the sweetness both aromatics and palate.

La Paulée de San Francisco - Gala Dinner (The Fairmont - San Francisco CA): Tasting, brief note. A very successful 1976 that combines nicely mature, (very) ripe berries with enough tannins and acidity to remain balanced and pleasurable. At a very good point.
