2nd of 3 bottles, last consumed 2.5 yrs ago. Showing mature notes of black cherry pie, peat moss, tar, espresso grounds, licorice, plums and mint. Finely grained tannins and full bodied mouthfeel, showing moderate acidity and Napa know how. Drink now through 2025+.

Very refined at this stage. Blackberry, cassis, pencil shavings and sweet oak. Refined grain tannins, reflecting aging. Wonderful to experience how aging reduces fruit forwardness and softens the tannin. Recommend drinking now. Not sure it would benefit (and could possibly diminish) from additional aging.

Deep red center, red rim with some signs of age. Sweet, cassis, briarwood, pipe tobacco. Smooth and rich, plummy and black cherries, some blackberry notes, smokey oak, supporting tannin and acidity, nice length. Very well made cabernet, mountain fruit, still very Napa, drinking very well now.

This was a very nice wine in its prime on day #1 right out of the bottle - just a few minutes of air and it was singing. Really nice substantial mouthfeel yet glassy and weightless. Rich dark red fruit with juicy acidity and lots of fine grained tannins that added real energy to the finish. Some tobacco and cocoa powder on the finish. Got much less exciting on day #2. I think its time to drink up what you have while still has the verve to be exciting.

Compared to 1.5 years ago, this showed more dark fruits (dark plums, dark cherry, blackberry) and was less bright, floral, and fresh. This tasted of brandy as well. Has that nice Mt. Veeder peppery profile. Still needs a decant of 1 hour to open up. Seems like its transitioning to 2nd half of its life (slightly downside of peak). Good, firm palate with plenty of tannins and a medium to long finish. At this stage, it complements food better than drinking alone.

Big full bodied Mt Veeder. Medium garnet in color. Nose musty upon opening but reveals pencil shavings with some light floral notes. Dark cherry, raspberry, mocha and a hint of mint on the finish. Bigger and bolder than most Mt. Veeder. Medium bodied with a long, lingering finish.

Deep dark red color with a brownish tint at the edges. Aromas of black cherries, mint, tobacco, pencil lead and licorice. Layers of ripe figs, black cherries, blueberries, toast and mint. Great mouthfeel with a long pleasurable finish. Wonderful wine that has aged beautifully and still has a couple of years at its current peak.

This was an aromatic and delicious Veeder. Decanted for 1 hour and drank over 2 hours. Initially very tight, dry and tannic. After 1 hour in the decanter, it put on a lot of weight and the thick red-fruited palate began to shine. It continued to improve and put on weight over 2 hours. This was surprisingly youthful for a 2007. Fragrant nose of flowers, graphite, cassis, and strawberry. Medium-plus bodied, red fruited palate (strawberry) with hints of currants and and a nice streak of minerality. If drinking now, decant for 1 hour. Should drink well for another 6-8 years.

A fruit lovers Cabernet. Medium ruby color. Light floral nose. Strawberry, cherry and cassis on the palate. But this is bolder and more full bodied than most Mt Veeder I have had. This falls more into a Mayacamas profile than it does a Yates or Godspeed. Medium finish. In a nice place with some tannins left but glad I waited 10 years for this to soften.

Nice wine overall. The eucalyptus flavor was at the front of nose early but settled into sweeter cherry jubilee as it opened. Soft tannins but fair acid for its age. It may last until 2020 but is pretty darn good now with 2-3 hours time in decanter.

Do not be fooled by the medium Crimson color. The Craig Mt Veeder carries far more weight than most Veeder wines. The nose opens a bit musty but over time, reveals a bit of pine and ripe plum. On the palate, dark fruit, mostly cassis and blackberry with an aftertaste of chocolate and mocha. Medium body with a mouth filling finish.

PnP w/30 min decant. Clear w/some very slight sediment at bottom. Deep dark purple color. Very nice and bold Cab nose. This has integrated nicely and in good drinking window. Good balance, fairly bold in structure, good tannins, long finish. Nothing off. $49

Blue and red fruit profile. Pine and spice notes that appear throughout the glass. Each taste reveals something different. Deep color. An interesting wine.
Decanted for a couple of hours. Started off with a slight green pepper finish that burned off after a couple of hours in the decanter. Wine opened up nicely and with integrated tannins. Should only get better.
Opened a magnum last night, very bright, dark fruit, touch of acid, and figs on the nose, tonight it has more Sumatra coffee, plum, currants, black licorice, and earthy barnyard, like a Pardon 45th anniversary cigar, more of the same on the palate, typical Mt. Veeder characteristics, medium/big body, medium finish, aged blackberry preserves and slightly acidic touch on the finish, lovely wine, just not my favorite cabernet. Try 5 years from now.
Dark and brooding, very concentrated but not too much so. Powerful blackberry, plum, and cassis with chewy tannins initially. Decant for a couple of hours or taste the next day and these have mellowed. 45 or more second finish. Have another that would love to drink now but will try to hold off for another few to five years.
Second time was the charm with this highly-ranked bottle. It seemed very over-rated when drunk about 6 months ago, but this bottle lived up to its press. Dark, concentrated fruit. Cherries, blackberries. Beautiful dark color, medium nose. Well-integrated, long finish. I'm convinced.

One of the best years for Robert Craig, Mt.Veeder is bold and beautiful. This is a powerful Cabernet. Decanting is a must for this wine and you will be rewarded with beautiful dark and blue fruits, oak and licorice I. The nose. Extremely well balanced tannins with a long lingering finish on the palate. Great with grilled meats or a spicy Creole dish. Will open the next one next year to see how it's developed further.

Balanced nose with a balance between blackberries and redder fruits. Palate is full bodied with medium tannins on the forefront leading to balanced ripeness and acidity. Will be quite good for the medium term and will improve for ~5 years, but no need to hold it longer than that.

Great wine from a great year. Yes, still young. But compared a two day open bottle to a 2005 / $100 bottle of top ranked Napa cab and preferred this one. Test was not blind, but the Craig was gone first. That is usually a pretty good clue.

Tasted in Napa and was very confusing. Really acidic and "hot" from the alcohol. I don't know if this wine is still completely closed down or they over oaked it, but there is something very off with this 2007. The fruit is completely overwhelmed by the acid and heat and needs at least another 1-3 years to open enough to get an accurate picture of what the wine is going to be. It's either a bust or a blockbuster in sheep's clothing.

Tasted at the release party for the 2007 RC Affinity. IMO this wine displayed much more dark fruit, density and layers of flavor but still very smooth sexy tannins. Displayed no herbal characteristics that I normally associate with Mt. Veeder. I am excited to see this wine evolve over the next 10 years. Certainly worth the price as all the Robert Craig wines provide excellent value given their quality.
