  • Dense red. Super sleek and cool aromas of dried flowers and pale fruit fight to survive an intermix of unresolved wood and reduction -still present after 12 years of cellar. The mouth is dense and packed with stony and pomegranate flavours-actually to the point of giving the impression of sucking a pastille of flintstone. This is a very lean skin on the bone type of wine, not hedonistic but with good dry and mineral persistence. What is distracting me is the wood treatment here. The wood is too aggressive -I find the choice of an intense wood char not on par with the lean fruit quality of the vintage and the terroir. La combe d'orveau is always very mineral and intense, it tends to have more fruit and sap in hot vintages. In cold vintages for my taste the fruit fight to absorb such wood treatment. This is made to please certain tasters at the early stage of the wine who tend to like wood char and extract - (Parker or Neil Martin). Drink it with a very fat meat like pork ribs to balance it.

  • Clear ruby with a strong berries scent in the first hour. The bouquet become more elegant but lack characters of Chambolle. What surprises me is how quick it drops in the glass. All-in-all, a fairly made CM 1er given the climat and price.

  • Another disappointing 08' Red Burg. Decent nose, floral but not intense, clearly it is holding back something. Red fruits dominant on the palate, notes of pomegranate, red cherry, and spice. Bright acidity level, typical of this vintage. Medium bodied and not particularly deep. Label indicated 13% alcohol with no heat. But clearly 08' Red Burgs are NOT in a good spot at the moment, comparatively 07' Red Burgs are delicious these days. 08' Red Burgs are behaving like 96' Red Burgs, acidity may calm down one of these days but could be a long long wait. I have been waiting for 17 years for the 96' to come around. Still shows plenty of acidity on 2nd day. Interesting transformation on 3rd day, good balance on palate with stinky mud nose, deserved upgrade in score. Buy more? No! 89-91 pts.
