Low expectations given the CT “drink by date “ has passed; did not decant and used an Ah-so cork puller to open. Very surprised this is still hanging on; and quite honestly, drinking very well! Black fruits and structure structure “ in tact”. Given the outstanding vintage, I’m guessing this should be consumed over the next 1-2 years. Still 92 points.

Nose- red fruit and menthol. Pallet - cassis, blueberry, luscious mouth feel. Mid pallet a little flabby but finish takes over and redeems it. Finish that lingers 20+ seconds. 93 points. Well done!

drinking beautifully right now. Suggest it is at its peak drinking window. The wine looks purple colored. The legs are slow. There is heavy sediment in the bottle. The body is full. The wine has leathery texture. The wine finishes long.

In my cellar since release. Decanted at 5pm and tasted over the next 5 hours with some left for tomorrow. This is a very pretty wine, elegant and more balanced than I expected. Labeled 14.5% ABV but not over ripe or showing any “heat”. It is a translucent medium to dark garnet. Nose is lightly perfumed with hints of vanilla and spice, some floral elements and mostly red fruit and berries. Tannin well integrated and acidity is bright enough to border on mouth watering. Palate is generous but restrained, mostly red current, plum and black raspberry along with some secondary cedar and mint. All together a lovely wine with a nice medium long finish. Rather unassuming but enjoyable. Certainly enjoyable for another few years with proper cellaring but probably near the end of peak plateau.
P.S. I had the rest on Sunday evening. It was even better. Much deeper and richer with chocolate on the nose and palate and more black fruit like blackberry. Raise rating 91-93 Remarkable!

Consistent with previous bottles. Decanted 1-2 hours this time. Blackberry, plum, cedar and vanilla. Well balanced, still alive and drinking well. Excellent Cabernet from Napa

Wine is still in good shape and has life left in it. Unfortunately i did not decant it prior to serving but as the pouring progressed the wine got better.

Maybe in it's youth it was a force to be reckoned with. Pleasant enough Cabernet that was a, pretty middle of the road nothing special easy to drink probably not worth its release price but its a famous name so who cares what we pay, bottle of wine.
I wish I had opened it 5 years ago. That there are still more than 4,000 bottles in people's cellars absolutely ASTOUNDS me. Good luck!! (mike drop, exit stage right)

Deep red. Artemis 2007 really smells "California Cabernet". Cedar, blackberries, plum, and baking spices on the nose. Still very young and fruit-forward on the nose. Would never have guessed it to be 12 years. Big mouthfeel, taste follows the nose and also with cocoa powder. Good acidity in the mid palate and a nice long dry finish. This held up very well and is absolutely not at the end of it´s life. Would hold for several more years. On day two in recorked bottle, it starts to show more pencil shavings and dark blueberries.

We drank this wine as part of a wine dinner with close friends. Decanted for about 2 hours. Other reviews indicated that this wine is past it's prime. They are so wrong, the wine it most certainly at it's prime right now and is drinking superbly. This was the best wine of the night. This is pretty closed on the nose. Dark fruit and currants on the palate. Very structured, nice level of acidity and medium level of tannins. Dry wine that is drinking very smoothly, nice balance. One word to describe this wine is elegant.

I only had one bottle of this, a gift I received in 2012. Some of the recent comments on CT made me worry that I might have missed the window for this wine, but I'm very pleased to say that I haven't. I decanted this for about 5 hours, though the nose was fabulous from the moment of pouring. The wine is very smooth now, tannins are mellow and subdued, and there is a superb richness. This is a great wine. I would guess this could still remain at its peak for a couple of years, though I can't test that theory as this was a most enjoyable one-off for me.

A bit concerned as the cork broke half way out, but no leakage, lots of crystals on the end of the cork. Really smooth right off the open, black current on the back of my throat.

The cork broke up a little bit while removing, but it had not leaked or been damaged. Popped open the cork at least 4 hours in advance of drinking. I was surprised at the wonderful flavor, given its age and over 14% alcohol. Slight tannins and balanced, with a medium finish.

Beautiful flavors of black currant and dark fruit. No decanter necessary, but after 45 minutes, the bottle was even better than before. Had a second bottle we opened in January which was good, but better now. Drink now if you’ve got it!

This was a solid cabernet, but not really memorable or remarkable in any way. Decent balance, good concentration, still has a bit of vanilla oak that stands out. Drinkable but not great.

Only need one word to describe this wine, Elegant! This bottle easily justified it's space during a long rest in the cellar... The time invested in the 2007 vintage perfectly matched it to my palate... Pairing this bottle with "surf and turf" and roasted brussel sprouts with dates helped to expose every nuance of this elegant cab.

Medium purple color, modest sedimentation. Cedar with a touch of tobacco on the nose. On the palate, red currant and vanilla in a nice harmony. Very smooth at the onset and throughout a long finish. I was expecting that the wine might be evidencing some sign of fading, as the Artemis is not the longest lived CS made by Stag's Leap Wine Cellars, but was pleasantly surprised. Across the board, I have found the recent bottles of 2007 Napa CS, including the Artemis are evolving nicely and would seem to have years left.

Decanted and enjoyed over 3 hrs, kept improving throughout ( initially needed 30 min the soften the tannins). Drinking nicely now, rounded, balanced, polished effort to the point of being boring. The alcohol is a bit high -14.5 % you can feel some heat occasionally, which hold the wine in the 90 pts category. All in all I was expecting more from this CS, not bad but somehow mediocre for the brand.

Brought to Nsci Poster rehash session. This bottle (my last) was definitely better than the last one a few years ago. I did not get the bitter notes I mentioned previously. Overall, this was a solid cab that was drinking pretty well. It certainly didn't wow me, but it was decent. No hurry on these if stored well, I think, but not sure it will improve much further. Probably would not buy again.

Classic Stag's Leap wine. Is likely nearing its' peak. Regardless, soft, rounded, and with dark fruit. Enjoyed on Thanksgiving as well as three days later - with similar feedback. I definitely enjoyed this wine more than my earlier review in June, hence the slightly higher rating.

I thought this was drinking very well right now. I agree that this would be a great wine for food. Good dark red fruit profile with soft tannins and a medium plus finish.

Of the wines I tasted during the evening, this was my least favorite. I thought perhaps the wine was corked, but friends of mine indicated that the wine was showing precisely how it should. I was expecting something more from the brand, and this left me disappointed. In reviewing other's notes, I can see how it may have been scored higher. IMO, however, the score I levied was generous at best. I plan to open another bottle today and give it time to breath and will revise my score and notes accordingly - should it show differently.

Took another Coravin taste of this, and was disappointed that this does not seem to have improved much since my last try 2 years ago. I doubt that this wine is going to get to a much better place than it is at now, and it is not special now. Might be one to open at a party and let the masses consume it.

Dinner at Home (Fremont, CA): Deep ruby without bricking; nose is aromatic with cedar, black fruit, nice bit of subtle asian spice which adds a lot of complexity, very slight nice herbal component; palate is full bodied, tannins are medium but well integrated, plenty of black fruit at first but it doesn't quite have persistence all the way through the midpalate, palate a bit simpler than the nose but overall well balanced, medium alcohol (14.5%), medium fresh acid; medium finish. This is a nicely balanced california cab with interesting character on the nose, good value for its price (~$50). I don't think this will improve but it has a few years left. 90-91 With 90 minutes air, the palate develops even some green notes that give it complexity. Very nice wine.

Time has allowed the oak and tannin to integrate. Dark fruit, spice, earth and a touch of herbs are center stage now. The bottle was remarkable easy going to drink. The last of three bottles, it is drinking really well now compared to the other two bottles that was consumed 2 and 4 years ago.

2 hour decant. Black to purple edge. Perfumed nose of black currents and plum. (merlot?). Tastes of cherry, currents with nice balance and resolved tannins. Medium finish. This got much better with food and another hour+. I would have pegged this for a Clos Du Val Cab in a blind tasting, but at a higher price. Final rating at 3-1/2 hours when it came into it's own.

Drinking very well right now, better than I remember last bottle. Dark opaque purple color with fast legs. Nose soft with light floral notes. Light, almost silky mouthfeel, fruit doesnt really pop until the mid palate. Medium body with very fine tannins and medium long finish. Has definitely gotten even better with age, some of the fruit had receded just a bit, but the tannins are really well integrated at this point too. I'd say drink up on this one, though it's probably got a few years left in not sure how much better it will get....

The wine looks crimson colored. The legs are medium. There is moderate sediment in the bottle. It smells like black currant (cassis) and gooseberry. It tastes like honeysuckle. The body is medium/full. The wine has smooth texture. The wine finishes short. The wine has medium acidity. At first opening it had a short finish but over time in decanter and in the glass it smoothed out too long finish. Give it a couple of hours to open up

Decanted for over 1 hour. Dark purple with notes of cassis, blackberry, cherry on the nose. Slight jamminess with raisin and plum, mineral, pepper, earthy mushroom, and a slight caramel from oak. Full bodied but the tannins were smoothed out and ended with a medium finish. Went wonderfully with lamb roast and duck with plum sauce. Worth the wait.

10 in glass mins, nice deep crimson, started off pretty grapey, after 30 minutes got better as tannins balanced out the fruit. Good compliment with the grilled lamb chops. The legs are medium. There is moderate sediment in the bottle. It smells like fig, dust and stoniness. It tastes like black currant (cassis). The body is medium. The wine has satin-like texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has medium acidity.

This has improved enormously since I last tasted it a few years ago, when it was tart and harsh. It is now an enjoyable, medium bodied wine with good black fruit, moderate complexity, and a pleasant if short finish. Very nice, but a long way from great.

Popped and poured; ruby color with slightest of bricking at edge; ripe, dark berries and espresso - consistent with previous bottles, but much more distinct than I remember; well integrated oak and tannins; long finish with licorice and toasted spice notes; definitely into it's sweet spot; nicely rewarded for holding off to this point

Black to deep red/purple edge. Young looking yet. Light perfume with anise and black currents. Tannins resolved, but still has good acid balance. Taste is balanced, showing black fruit. Medium finish. This is a good, not great value but is showing and aging well. Will keep for several more years. No rush.

A very pleasant wine, drank as expected but not a surprise. One review was to pop and pour. I think that you should try that with this wine. We opened and drank it second so it was open maybe 4 hours before consumption and was losing its verve. Very nice still though!!

Ready to drink for sure, the fruit has faded into a lovely balance of cases, blueberry and blackberry. The oak has mellowed and the mouth was silky and on pnp everyone thought this was a slightly aged Bordeaux wine. After two hours this opened up a bit offering more fruit notes and a better finish. I would recommend a two or three hour decant but then drink up because it's not going to go much longer.

Dark red, with an intense and unique flavor profile: dark fruits, especially elderberry and tart cherries, with lead pencil and cinnamon. Still has plenty of tannin, even though it has thrown off a lot. Great fruit on the front end, followed by a quite tannic finish. But after being open several hours, it softened to a more balanced wine. Still young. Needs more time.

1 hour decant in the bottle. Some small sediment. Deep dark purple color. Dark fruits still present both on nose and palette. Well integrated tannins. This is drinking beautifully right now. Only originally paid $30 for this several years ago which absolutely can not be beat - Need to go pick up some 2011s currently on sale for the cellar.

Coravin taste. Dark fruits on the nose with a bit of candy. On the palate, this is dark fruits (much more so than the 07 ACVV wines tasted along side). The acidity is too low, and the tannins are drying and a touch bitter. This was a decent cab, but was not in the league of the Conn Valley Cab and Eloge that were tasted along side this tonight. Glad I don't have more than the one bottle. Maybe time will smooth it out some more, but I don't think there is much upside from here.

Decanted with significant sediment; Deep slightly turbid garnet with purple highlights; evolving nose initially of dark fruits and tobacco subsequently black cherry and currants and tobacco; Despite one hour decant dominant flavor was tobacco with background of cherry, and maybe plum. Second day, opened significantly with nose of black cherry, currants, stems and tobacco; savory palate of black cherry predominantly, with currants, hints of rum cherry, cassis notes, stem and significant tobacco with fine mouth coating tannins which adhered to the inside of my lips. Good acidity and average to above average length. Would not call this a typical Cabernet and holds interest. I guessed two years a year or so ago. Think this will be pretty nice in a year or after a long decant.

short decant of an hour. Dark ruby at the core with persistent color to the rim, very pretty. Nose of dark fruit - blueberry, stewed prune, some oakiness. Medium bodied noticeable tannins at the outset (No discernable acid despite proper storage), oakiness, noticeable alcohol, disjointed tannin making for a somewhat short finish. OK wine I think it's past its prime.

Two years since my last bottle and time has helped this wine to really come together nicely. Still got black fruits and some cedar, but the integration and balance now is at another level. So much smoother. For the $36 I originally paid for this at Costco, this is a steal.

The Artemis blend is one of Stag's Leap four great Cabernets and the 2007 does not fail to live up to expectations. The wine displays a clear, deep ruby core and is packed with fragrant aromas of raspberries, blueberries and vanilla. On the palate the fruit remains dominant, albeit perfectly well integrated, with loads of black currant, plum and chocolate layers, all on the backdrop of a rich raspberry coulis. Great alcohol/acidity balance, soft texture, and a long finish. A great effort to be enjoyed over the next five years.

Opened my first bottle from the cellar, decanted for a couple hours and enjoyed over 2 days, after the first taste was really bold and with a tobacco and earthy tasted and continued thru a second sampling. The next day was less earthy and had a lot of settlement at the bottom. I have to say it was very interesting over the time period. Will open the 2008 for a comparsion soon.

Deep ruby. Sumptuous nose of cherries, red currants, conifer, and fancy oak, whiffs of mocha, vanilla, and rosemary. The palate is restrained, very youthful, with fine-grained tannins that are pleasantly astringent. Exhibits classic length, a supple texture, great tension, excellent structure, a core of red and black fruit, chocolate, and an elegant espresso and dark chocolate finish. Drinking this, even over a 3-hour period, felt like infanticide. Probably merits a higher score with more bottle age. Decant.
The nose shows currant, cigar/tobacco leaf, dirt, and cracked black pepper. The wine enters slightly oily on the palate, but is extremely smooth throughout. Restrained and rounded tannins blend perfectly into the balance and add to the smoothness. Perhaps this wine is slightly flabby, or lacking some acid. I would prefer a slightly stronger backbone, even in a more aged cab.
The fruit is muted at first, although it is one of the prominent flavors. Restrained I would call it. Tobacco, cherry, slight spice, cola, some meatiness all show on the palate. Medium finish ~8 sec.
Great wine. Possibly drinking slightly better in the past. Decanted for 30-40 min.
Edit: After about an hour and fifteen + the palate got markedly more complex, and thus, more enjoyable. I would recommend an hour/hour and a half decant.

Scents of cassis, crushed rock, pencil shavings, and black liquorice. Peaking nicely with a bit of air, with typical flavors of cassis, cedar, gravel, and tons of dark fruit, black olives, and spicy mocha. Quite exquisite and long. I only dabble in Cali reds but need to try more!

This is the first 2007 Napa Cab I have tried that is ready for consumption. I have found 2007s to still be quite tight, while this one is ready. Definitely a fruit wine though many attributes more like a CdP than a Napa Cab - nutty, dark chocolate, touch of coffee. Some blueberries. Big but nicely balanced with tannins. This has many years ahead of it, but nice now.
Nice wine. Beautiful nose. Medium to full bodied with notes of coffee and chocolate. Needed 30 minutes to an hour to open up as it was wound up tightly upon opening.

Price point aside, this is a very solid wine. Dark heavy fruit in the front, lively tannins. Slight cigar box nose and pronounced tobacco/oak finish. That heavy oak finish, probably prevents this wine form being fully integrated with age. Agreed with previous taster notes on the big front and back of this one wiping out any flavors mid-pallet.

Medium bodied with standard Napa cab characteristics. I actually think this wine was better in its youth. I don't see it improving with more time. Agree with other reviews that there is no "wow" factor here. By itself it was not at all interesting but improved tremendously with food (Turkish lamb).

14.5% - Clear, deep ruby with a black tone / clean, med to hign intensity - dark berries (blackberries, cherries), cedar, fresh tobacco, smoke and spicy, marshmallow vanilla / dry, med tart acidity, med+ body, med+ fine grained tannins (feels slightly unripe at first - green bell pepper), med intensity, med to long length. Good backbone, linear and concentrated, this needs to breath a little... to the decanter and let's see in an hour or two... Opened up a little bit with herbal notes - mint similar to malbec. Great food wine - enjoyable now, but more cellaring would be rewarded.

3 hr slow ox. This didn't really budge. The fruit expression is very linear. It went well with food. However, on its own, it would have struggled lacking complexity. I did enjoy it for what its worth, but it's not anywhere near a wow wine. Not sure if this will develop into much. Time will tell. Next tasting in 3-5 years.
Popped and poured. Pleasant nose, good bright fruit on the palate with slight oak on finish. It still seemed to have solid structure with good balance.

Big difference a few months make as this wine settled in and is drinking very nicely now. Too bad it's my last bottle. Drinks a little more like a Bordeaux than a napa cab, so lifeline is probably not much longer IMO. Drink up. Drinking nicely in 2013.

So you know that guy who grew up in your neighborhood? That quiet quirky guy you never really understood, who didn't quite fit in anywhere and your mother warned you about? The one who you worried could lose it one day and do something unspeakable? Or something really cool? This wine is that guy. Very dark red with a lighter rim; shifty subtle nose with a little cherry here, a little spice there, something volatile now, a hint of oak later. But always something saying an undefinable "black". Really hanging out on the corner smoking a cigarette. It took me three days to get a handle on taste. Dark fruits, tar and good acidity, followed by a crash of very spicy tannins which almost cause amnesia for what came before them. At times it almost favored the Cahors side of Malbec only to retreat into the shadows. Again always black. Skinny mouth feel on the first two days with some substance on day 3. Going to have to wait 2 or 3 years to know whether this brooder decides to commit a crime or show his talents, something like David Bowie or Johnny Cash.

*Decanted for 2-3 hours* Very deep dark red, dark rim. Dark sun-warm soil on the initial start of the nose. Blackberry pie and dried oregano/thyme. Lots of dark berries on this aromatic nose. Complex nose with hints of liquorice. On the palate, this wine is big and rich, lots of tannins but well integrated already. Lots and lots of dark chocolate, bitter cocoa and more liquorice. A dry Napa Cabernet but at the same time fresh and shows great acidity. The overall impression is that this is a delicate wine made to both enjoy now and cellar for many years. An elegant and complex finish ends this fantastic wine. 92+ This will be really interesting in the years to come.

Immediately approachable upon opening. Nice, dark violet color, almost inky. There is ample fruit showing with a nice balance of tanin and wood. This is a great everyday drinker, but I do think it is just a fair QPR. There are similar bottles out there with similar quality for less. Not a bad effort at all though. Very enjoyable. If this was a $20-28 bottle, I would like it more.

I was prepared to be disappointed given the fact that Stag's Leap can be a bit overpriced and unexceptional, and add to that the negative review from WS (which to my taste tends to overrate big Napa fruit bombs). But I thought the "earthy, herbal and leathery" notes gave this rich and velvety wine some character often missing from Napa cabs. If you don't like a "savory" element to your wine, you won't like this, but after decanting and on day two, this wine was solid, interesting and well rounded.

I've been holding a few bottles and finally decided to open two of them. Reading some of the earlier reviews, I decided to open early and let them breath. I uncorked at 2:00pm, poured a couple ounces into my tasting glass, replaced the cork lightly and shook the bottle (yes, I shook it...a little trick I learned from a well-known winemaker). Uncorked again to let CO2 escape, then recorked and let sit in cellar for 3 hours. Decanted later...and wow, it was surprisingly good. Rich, mellow, long finish. Had the structure of much more expensive cabs. I'm going to try to buy more of the 2007 if I can find it. The obvious key: give it a few hours to breath and you will be rewarded.

Heavy on the oak and not at all in the Stag's Leap style - missing that soft mouthfeel; even though this bottling is not exclusively estate grapes, other vintages of Artemis I've had exhibit that Stag's Leap style much more than the '07.

Popped & poured. This wine was very tannic at first and tasted more old world style. After about 30 minutes to an hour it began to open up and the fruit started to come through with some blackberry and dark cherry. Not too bad considering price, I will decant for an hour on future bottles.

Idk. Thought this was solid, but not quite a 90 pointer. Just on the cusp meaning its good and reliable but doesn't WOW. Somewhat thin at first but let it breathe and dark fruit is accentuated with a decent finish. Drinking nicely now, but figure on 2-3 years for better results if you can wait as tannins ought to hold out.

Pretty disappointed with this one after reading all the tasting notes. Just didn't seem to have a lot going on. A bit of black fruit on the nose. Even pairing it with a marinated flank steak didn't do much to bring some character out of this wine.

Many years ago I was on the Atkins Diet for a few days, but sneaked out with a friend and went to Dairy Queen where we both ordered a giant chocolate brownie Blizzard. Carb-starved as we were, it was maybe better than it really was, but it was such an indulgent delight. That is this wine. After drinking plunk for weeks, we popped this one and just sat there and inhaled for a while: black currant, licorice, cassis -- all the right stuff.

San Diego WineSpectator.com Offline, 4/1/2012 (Avenue 5 Restaurant, San Diego, California): Decanted and served. Clear medium garnet-purple. Notes of black currants, blackberries, earth and licorice. An easy-drinking crowd-pleaser. A strong entry-level wine from this winery, seeming to justify some of the hype for this vintage. Was that enough hyphens for one tasting note? Tied for THIRD PLACE.

Good, soft, crowd-pleasing cabernet sauvignon. Not much personality in this latest bottle I've tried, but my previous tastings of the Artemis have been stellar. Not sure if its the vintage or if it is something on my end that makes me pause about assessing the quality of this. It certainly isn't disappointing, but it is somewhat thin and uncomplicated compared to some of the previous offerings on this label. Nevertheless, I enjoyed it!

This wine needs quite a bit more time. Some have commented it is a bit of a mess. I think it needs more time to make that call but without a doubt it is a bit of a bomb. Maybe over extracted and certainly tannic, even after five years so I think this needs another five to soften both the fruit and tannins. This is a very good house and I have been very impressed in previous vintages. If you do visit this early or on the next while, make sure as some ahev mentioned that it is with a big piece of protein like Prime Rib and give it lots of air. I drank this over two nights and the oak and tannins were still too much to handle right now.

Wow. P&P a 1.5 and out of the gate this was and remained wotn. Not a true perfect condition stand off but a birthday party serieiel p&p bottle through bottle, everyone gets a glass or 2 before next bottle. It was a dragon boat team members birthday party and drinking was f&f.
Anyway back to the Artemis. Great stuff, classic & perfect in that roll of high end valley floor Cali cab. Perfect 07 fruit, rich, velvet chocolate wafer sort of way, the palate fills with fruit, secondary flavors there just needing more air or time to strut. Perfect for me. Even had the French wife of a team member remark, "i prefer that one & it is not French, what is it?"/ Ahhhh i say, it is Californian..... Finish is so nice, layers just beginning to show. This is truly a great valley floor year.
Finally this bottle as beautiful as it was was consumed in 30 minutes. Shameful, but it was a beautiful short life.

This is a very tannic wine. The tannins are strong, but not overpowering. Not very aromatic, with hints of earth and mineral. This is a deep and complex wine, fully appreciated over multiple glasses. I would have loved to have another bottle for the cellar, because I can see a great future for this wine over 10 to 15 years. If ever I consumed a red wine too early, this was it. That being said, do not pass this opportunity up if you still have it. I made sure to get two bottles of the 2009, for future consumption, of course.

Based on other reviewers, I decanted for 60 minutes. This was a disappointing wine. It never got off the ground. The oak burned off but all that remained was an unbalanced mess. Muddled kool-aid fruit flavors with no complexity. I'd like to write this off as a bad or flawed bottle but my wife and I are usually good at detecting bad bottles.

Needs at least 90-120 minutes to really start blossoming and opening up. On opening the flavor is dominated by oak - this subsides and gives way to beautiful black fruit as the bottle opens.

Decanted at cellar temperature for 2 1/2 hours. Black Fruits, cedar, and spice. Tannins are big - but integrated. Medium body and finish. This wine goes really well with a big ole steak.

Let breathe for an hour in the bottle followed by an hour of decanting. Could have afforded a bit more breathing time. Dark, rich color, mildly tannic despite decanting, even for an 07. Not a very strong nose, but well rounded and mildly complex with medium finish. I kept wanting more after every steak bite!

An excellent Cabernet from a great vintage and a solid producer. Tasting notes consistent with my previous notes from November. it's really drinking well right now but will cellar well for sometime to come.

Dark, rich and full bodied. Great nose of cassis, and dark berries with an underpinning of light vanilla. Lots of black currants, blackberries, and black cherries. The wine had been decanted for a couple of hours so the tannins were smooth and mild. Very nice Cabernet dominated style blend, well balanced. Nice long finish.

The group had a late lunch at Matthews, this is a solid cabernet, a nice nose of plum and cassis, mid palate brings wood and dried grass flavors, long finish with hints of mint and caramel. Went down so nice that we ordered another bottle which we let sit for 45 minutes this led to more pronounced flavors as the wine was developing.

Pale ruby red with a great savoury nose, full of graphite, cedar and a light sweet hint of blackcurrant. Much more mineral than the Silverado, there is delicate black fruits but the palate is full of cedar and cigar smoke. Very enjoyable.

Another fantastic Artemis. Not sure what James Laube has against this wine, but I'm always a big fan. Classic Stags Leap wine with a great earthy nose and bright red fruit. Has nice structure and acidity with some lingering fine tannins. Medium to long finish. Enjoy!!!

Lot of variance in the scoring on this wine, including the disparity between WS 80 and WE 94. Having tried it, I can now see why. Upon pop and pour, the nose on this was very racy, smelled like fresh berries in vanilla creme. On the palate, however, it was angular and acidic and somewhat austere. After 90 minutes in the decanter, it opened up some, and a very nice herbal streak emerged that I really liked. However, the finish remained a bit acidic/astringent/tannic, and it never became smooth. There is lots of acidic and tannic structure here and maybe it will all come together nicely in a few years, but I'm not sure the fruit is rich enough to last through that. I have one more bottle and will not be buying more. I think it boils down to what style of cabernet you like, but I can definitely understand the lower scores.

Very well balanced with rich tannin. Smooth long finish, bold and structured. Need to breath at least 30 mins (longer the better) before the wine comes into it's own. One of the best I have had at this price level.

(90+) It is really a joy to see how this wine develops over a 3 hour period... agreed with previous reviews that this wine needs about 2 hours decanting to show its stuff.... you will find plenty of dark chocolate, mocha, coffee, oak, dark fruits... definitely still young and have plenty of life ahead.... nice medium body and paired very well with my rib-eye steak dinner.... really enjoyed the medium finishing of this wine... overall very enjoyable!

Very good california cabernet, but not great. Too much heat for me especially right after opening, needs at least 2 hours of air before it settles down. Medium bodied with red fruits, honey, dark chocolate and espresso notes, nice acidity but very sharp tannins which make the wine appear too young and somewhat unbalanced. Long finish which could be more interesting if the tannins would not be so dominant. If you have it, let it sit for another couple of years.

Pop & pour. Consistently good, even this young. Red fruit with earthy mocha follow- up. This is really drinking nicely; haven't tried for almost six months, maybe fruit seemed a bit more tart than last try. Good stuff...

A very good napa cab. Great mouthfeel & body, soft & smooth for it's age; cherry, currant, plums, oak and vanillans on the nose. All around a good wine but lacks some of the dimension I have come to expect from napa cabs in this price range. Let it sit for a while, if you can bare to wait.

Excellent Cali Cab, quite typical, but not over the top in any way and really tasty, tempted to purchase more from this legendary winery! - Dark, full bodied with a nose black fruit, plum, cherry, mocha, cedar and creamy vanilla, well structured, fine tannins, good balance, complex, sweet, smooth on the palate with excellent length, excellent (93 Points).

I've like Stag's Leap wines (I actually think their whites are better than the reds). I bought this since they were discounting it. Overall, not a bad wine. Very drinkable, with light oak, smooth flavor of dark fruit; the alcohol is acceptable. My only disappointments are the nose (nothing to note) and the finish (rather flat, like a standard Cote du Rhone). However, if you can get this for under $35, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Youthful black currant and blueberry nose with a slight woody note. A bit hollow in the mid-palate, but should knit together with time in the bottle. 3/5

Drank this over two days and definitely not worth the coin. Upon opening, wine had promise with some dark fruit and earthiness. Day two the wine thinned out and lost any complexity it had on day one. Drank an 06 Cinnabar Santa Cruz mountain Cab a couple days before and it blew the doors off this Artemis.

Dinner at Bado's Cucina with Leigh and Dean. Dean brought the Artemis. Odd coincidence that Dean would bring this after I had a bottle last night. This bottle benefited from an hour of air time while we drank the 2006 Sea Smoke Southing. Showed better than last night. Red cherries and red currant with green pepper and earth. Went nicely with the pasta course.

Consumed at Jackson's (Southpointe). Overpriced at $140. Man - James Laube at an 80 and WE at a 94. This wine sure draws mixed reviews. I'll take the middle and err on the high side. Pretty typical Cali Cab with more red fruit than black. Muted flavors of red currant and vanilla with a lot of veggies (green pepper and olive) coming through. Too much heat on the finish at first (PNP), but after an hour it settled down. May have some long term potential, but I will not be running out to buy more at this price point.

Pop & pour. Red fruit abounds, earthy chocolate follows up. This is really drinking nicely young & I hope I can resist dooming too many of these to infanticide. A real "Little Red Riding Hood ' of a wine...not too tannic, not too smooth, not too fruity, not too oaky, not too hot, not too...you get the idea - it's just right. I hope I can hold on to a few to see what evolves after ten years.

Dinner with Susi & Michelle (Jersey City Loft, NJ, with Jen & I) (Jersey City, NJ): At dinner with Susi & Michelle (Jersey City Loft, NJ): The 2nd Stag's Leap wine of the night, the 2007 vintage was a step up, in terms of quality, although will be even better with a little time. Delicious notes of red fruit, chocolate and lots of wound tannins. Showy & energetic. Very good with the filet mignon (on the rare side of medium rare, but sans moo). Michelle and Jen did a little blending of the 2005 and 2007 vintages--which actually worked. I had mine the purist way: 1 at a time.

The nose is well balanced. Light fruit, oak and vanilla is the fist impression on the nose. The wine itself is somewhat medium to light bodied in mouth feel (almost watery), but the finish was an absolute pleasure. The flavors on the finish draw you back to your glass for more.
I will be interested to see how this wine progresses with a few more years. Outstanding wine now, but hoping for something even better down the road.

Easily one of the best bottles I have ever had. The nose is unassuming, if anything one might term it very "even." In my personal experience, the nose of a wine sometimes betrays the body; excellent wines will frequently be undercut by a wimpy and watery nose that makes a poor first impression. Although the exquisiteness of the body may salvage the wine overall, one is left wondering what could have been.
This is not one of those wines. The nose is confident but understated, albeit obviously young. You can almost smell the ripeness upon first taking a sniff, but it is not off-putting as it might be with some wines. In a way, it is probably a crime to drink this bottle so young, but it is also a unique experience to taste the transition over time, which is something I most definitely intend to do.
The coloring is even and deep, although I seem to never notice coloring unless something is seriously off.
The body is perfectly balanced. Some astringency lingers, yes, but the background flavors are so harmonious that it is hard to subtract much from the overall enjoyment. It is ripe and jammy, full of flavor, but clearly refined in the way that most fruit bombs are not. I can sense that a few years of cellaring might refine it even more and elevate it to an even higher level, but I must admit that I thoroughly enjoyed this rather nascent version. To have or to hold, it is a tremendous value for the price point, and I fully intend on buying several more bottles. I regret that I cannot compare it to previous vintages, but this iteration is truly sublime.

Had a half bottle of this at A.R. Valentien (The Lodge at Torrey Pines) with New Year's Eve dinner. First time at the restaurant and first time for a Stag's Leap Wine Cellars. WOW, we loved it. Simply delicious. Medium to low fruit, medium weight and I don't remember the nose - I do remember it was low key, it did not fill the glass and hit you. But what a delicious wine, so elegant, such beautiful texture. It was a joy to drink. Afterwards I learned this is the entry level wine for SLWC. Anxious to try the other Cabs when I can.
Another wine I've been wanting to try for a long time. Not as impressive as the recent Justin Isosceles, but not bad. A little too subtle, a little too flat. For such a banner year for NV CS, this was a disappointment. Probably won't buy again - the QPR doesn't compel me.

With 90 minutes air, the palate develops even some green notes that give it complexity. Very nice wine.

Very deep dark red, dark rim.
This will be really interesting in the years to come.

After drinking plunk for weeks, we popped this one and just sat there and inhaled for a while: black currant, licorice, cassis -- all the right stuff.

This was a really good Cab with lots of potential. I have a second bottle that I will definitely let age a few years before drinking. I can't wait for it to develop!

Smooth and velvety mouth feel although slightly less than silver oak. Very well made wine. Red fruit, cherry, plum. Well balanced and tannins nicely controlled.

Currant. Some beautiful non-fruit flavors in the forefront. Some earth and truffle. Very surprised at the pretty complex nose. Bordeaux-Cali hybrid wine. Med plus finish. Very impressed.

This was a good wine, but it needed to breath or age more in the bottle. I enjoyed this wine, but was overall not as pleased as I expected. I got it at a good price, otherwise I would have been disappointed. Still a good wine right now, but I would expect it to age well.
