Dark garnet in color with slight clearing at the edges. Full, forward & fragrant nose of ripe fruit aromas of cherries, blackberries & plums with overtones of floral notes of violets & dusty/earthy/loam notes, spice notes of cloves, iron, cocoa/mocha, leather, truffles, minerals, anise, tobacco, herbs & a hint of balsamic & cedar notes. Full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, lush, ripe fruit flavors of dark cherries, blackberries & mulberries with herbs, cocoa, truffles, minerals, spices & a bit of vanilla/oak in the background. Long lingering smooth finish. Drinks quite well at present with decanting & airing but at 17 years of age, it is quite close to or at its peak but could maintain its current stage of development for several additional years. However, I doubt any further development would occur from additional aging. Fill was in the neck above capsule; cork was clean & intact. An amazing Brunello which has aged quite well!

Deep tawny colour, somewhat opaque. Forward nose of red cherries and plums, leather and earth. Palate is where this wine shines. Balanced, yet rich, tannins barely notable, acidity offsets the sweet fruit. Very good finish. Very enjoyable now and will hold for several years.

Opened fairly late at night on NYE. Seemed much less impressive, and much more developed than my last bottle. A slightly oxidative touch from older Sangiovese was emerging. Should have been my last bottle so will not know for sure if this was simply an off bottle I guess.

Delicious. Tannins were nicely resolved/integrated, tertiarty notes present, and the texture of the wine and finish was excellent. Sottobosco/damp forest floor/wet leaves, truffle, animal fur, leather, dried fruit. Perfect with the fall weather. Drink over the next 5-7 years.

Another superb showing - this is getting better and better. Drank over two days, and best on day 2 from a small air tight sealed PET bottle, kept in the fridge overnight. This has incredible delineation of red and dark fruit, very aromatic and an amazing and perfectly integrated freshness and acidity too. On day 1, there is still a bit too much oak which then disappears on the second day when everything is in balance. Very good length too. Wonderful and very classic Brunello. Only two bottles left now :-( Just like for Nardi's 2006 BdM, again kudos to Stephen Tanzer who unlike most of the usual Tuscany critics spotted the exceptional quality of Poggio Antico's 06 Annata already on release - a pity Stephen does not cover Tuscany at Vinous anymore...
Don’t understand the tasting notes from 2020; this is in a splendid place. Bit of bramble and lots of sour cherry on top. Well etched minerality; tannins are mostly resolved and supple. Finished with Italianate bitterness. Not thinning out by any measure. Great time to pull the cork.

A bit more than two years after my last bottle. Wonderful traditional Brunello. A bit of wood spices. Lovely freshness and acidity, accurately drawn on the palate, dried fruit, of course a bit strict but tannins are fine to medium now, good length. Not an easy drinking wine, and some might enjoy this more with food than on its own but this is what Brunello should be like in my eyes.

Reticent nose. Showing rather tight upon opening. Really needed some time to unwind. There are hints of red fruit and licorice, some asphalt. To me, this either needs time, or isn't going to get all the way there. It was good, better with food, and almost special, but not quite. I will hold my bottles, and decent for a bit next time.

Poured into decanter after another disappointing 07 Uccelliera (88-89). Looks younger in the glass with a transparent dark ruby in the glass, just a touch of orange towards the rim. Fragrant dry red fruit, wood spices, elevated acidity providing freshness, tannins fully integrated. Short to medium finish. Well done - a rather classic 06 Brunello that is ready to drink now.

Certainly one of the most boring wines I've had all year. Monolithic/linear in the worst of ways. Nothing says Sangiovese, even if there's some tartness and an iron/earthy thing that's tugging at my palate for the first 45 minutes, it's not enough. At the end of the day, it's dumbed down fruit, masked by completely unecessary/unflattering oak. A total waste of money and time. For shame. In any event, HOLD, this has nothing to offer just now; maybe in 10 or 12 years, who knows. 13,5% abv.
Light red cherry color, fairly translucent. Dust and black fruits on the muted nose. Tons of dust and red fruit notes; quite sweet, with zinging energy and amazing fruit integration.

Really very good, in an understated elegant way. Almost burgundian. It takes some tasting skill to appreciate this, which is a problem for some of the posters below, whose palate, I suspect, is used to parkerized fruit bombs, such as Napa cabs and Argentinean steak wines. This would go well with bifteca alla fiorentina, though.
Good wine but I'm use to big fruity cabs. I have lots of Italian wine but this one seemed "flat". No tannins no fruit just a brunello. I like this wine but not my favorite Tuscan. But it deserves a 90 rating.

I agree with the descriptions by David J Cooper and ScottyB, but not with the delight in it. I.e. it is light bright red, almost orange/red in color, and tart in taste, but to me it is a faint shadow of what is available for less money in a 2006 barbi brunello. Both my wife and I agree this is just nice, nowhere near worth the money we spent. For that same money we could get a much richer fuller more aromatic barbi, or a sumptuously fruity andrew will, both of which were enjoyed, drunk, and praised by everyone we have served them to. This might be a lot better in 2-5 years but i cannot predict the future, as can no one else I have encountered. So I will probably avoid this highly praised label in future. I don't appreciate $60 experiments. If someone had given it to me it would have received polite but restrained praise. It has been open about an hour or more and is in my glass now. So I am not discarding it, just not really enjoying it. The primary smell even now is mostly alcohol. Drinking it has me thinking more about what else I might open for genuine pleasure.

PnP with Friday night pasta at home. Medium garnet with slight browning towards the trasnlucent rim. Surprised by the great balance this BdM is already showing. Meidum body with red berries and dark fruit, a whif of oak and cat pee (?) On the nose,, plenty of earth with very fine tannins and a long finish showing some chocolate. My only question is whether this is for the really long run. Nevertheless, out of the 06 BdM I have had so far this is the one I like most. Among the best BdM I have had

Tasted blind, I thought this was a 15 year old Pauillac.
From that standpoint perhaps this is too atypical. I agree with prior notes that this does not resemble Sangiovese.
That said this is quite delicious, rich, dry leathery tannins with some dried cranberry fruit.
Curious to see the assemblage
