Lots of oak and vanilla as noted by others. The 'house' style has very rounded and soft mouthfeel and more subtle dark fruit. Very lovely pairing with lean cuts of beef

Copious oak on this merlot right up front so if you're not an oak lover this is a clear pass. If you are an oak lover this wine will not disappoint. Very woodsy vanilla oak and cedar along with some ripe dark fruit and a touch of smoke. Very rich nose. Pretty nice mouthfeel too. Fine tannins, a little background heat, nice balance. A very decent Napa Merlot!

Nothing wrong but nothing really exciting either. Does have more personality than the average cali merlot. Decent at end of bin price.

The varietal character is there, but it's just not my style, and definitely not the QPR that I try to target.

Trip to Napa Valley; 1/30/2011-1/31/2011 (Napa, CA): On the nose, dark berries, a little heat, simple. On the palate, some oak, blackberries, very smooth.

A supple merlot with light tastes of cherry and stronger strawberry. Solid finish. Not sure the $45 price tag is appropriate though.

Slightly brownish red. Oak, spice, and leather nose. Red fruit, powerful oak, tart cherries, drying tannins, and a medium finish. Needs more time.

Decanted for over an hour. Notes of leather and all spice. Would do well with a couple more years.
