Easy drinking bubbly; dominated by red delicious apple; I was expecting more development at 19 years - a little disappointing; I have one more bottle and will leave it for a few more years; not blinded

Honey, almond and hazelnut are the initial aromas that jump out of the glass, followed by subtler notes of dried apricots and green apple. There are some soft floral tones lurking in there as well, making themselves known more as the wine gets more air and warms a bit. Like any Vouvray, the acidity is prominent and striking. The fruit comes a little more to the fore on the palate, again emphasizing dried apricots, with some fresh white peach making itself heard. Hazelnut and honey linger on the palate.
Huët’s pétillant isn’t terribly effervescent when young, and with 15 years, there’s just a slight hint of spritz left, reminiscent of the little tingle you’d get from a Vinho Verde or Txakoli. It’s just enough to lift the brisk acidity and help brighten the fruit.

Superb. Delicate, subtle, yet poised. The bubble is fading away leaving poetic texture. Iodine, flowery, Chenin Blanc's purity at its best and endlessly poetic. As the temperature went up, it was gaining more of the light honey flavor. It went superbly well with very refined sushi. One needs to be patient with these and most likely to be rewarded with an uplifting moment experiencing what complexity within purity is all about. Cheers,

Straw yellow, seems little fizz. Aroma of strong beeswax, ripe peach, apricot, quince and lime. Palate entry of beeswax, floral, juicy plum and gentle bubbles. Mid-palate of quince, sage, thyme and juicy peach. Long finish of wax, violet and tree fruits. Very surprisingly complex and lively Vouvray Petillant, great acid and structure.

Popped and poured. Aroma of lemon, minerals and sawdust. Mutable mix of flavors includes beeswax, citrus, white fruit. Mineral finish. Firm backbone, complex and mature flavors, lively, great staying power. Drinking beautifully.
Edit: While certainly not as effervescent as one would expect a young sparkling wine to be, this bottle has a good amount of spritz left in it and is doing quite well for a 13 year old. My condolences to those who were not as fortunate.

Cherry Picked France (St. Genevieve): Drank a small glass to start a tasting. Good minerality, a little sweetness. This bottle didn't have many bubbles. Quite good, but 1 point less than the last bottle I had 1.5 years ago.

Took about 1-1.5h to open up. Really nice baked apple, lemon curd, honeysuckle, baking spices, minerals. Palate follows. Palate follows but with a mildly creamy broad texture. Still with acids and minerals but not as zingy and laser-like in its youth. Moving toward maturity but still in its adolescence? Really enjoyable nonetheless. Wait another 5 years before the next bottle.

Weird, you'd think Rieslingfan and I shared the same bottle as mine was nearly flat but still reasonably fresh with some green apple and gentle sweetness.

Something went horribly wrong, as this bottle was flat as a pancake. No oxidation, but zero sparkle. From the same case as numerous good bottles, and stored perfectly since release. Have to think there was cork failure, but why no oxidation? Weird.

Bright and fresh fruit created an immediate contrast to yet another oxidized bottle of the 2002 that was opened immediately before this. The fresh character carried through our entire meal, and gave a clear impression of a wine with a long time to go before it develops into something even remotely mature. Thankfully there have not been any reports of premox in the 2005, so I can cellar my remaining bottles of the '05 with confidence.

Drank a bottle over the course of an evening. Well ROCKNROLLER was more accurate as usual, 90-91 is a more reasonable score for this. Still quite nice, good minerality, yeast, a little funk. There is a slight fruity sweetness but it remains correct as a Brut.

Champagne and Sushi (Raku, Edina MN): A smallish glass at a tasting. Ok, this is not champagne but it is very well done. Different. It seemed slightly sweet at first, but as I drank it the sweetness seemed to disappear. The nose is funky and overall it seems rather Old World. Green fruit on the finish. I would seek this out.

Monthly Tasting Group: Champagne and Sushi (Raku, Edina, MN): Medium bright gold color. Drank 1 glass over 20 minutes. Light, delicate flavors, green fruits, apple skin, a bit of funk. The palate has smoke, pear, light body, green tree fruit, slightly sweet, long finish.

Delicious, but the bubbles have just about vanished. Served along two small-grower Champagnes, and this was far more interesting, IMO. Best Loire sparkler I've had, and will buy more and consumer earlier. Elegant, with excellent structure and balance.

Lovely lovely stuff, fantastic with omakase at Tanoshi on NYC's UES. Lively Loire acidity, mellow petillance. It's different from Champagne but comparable to those up to around twice its price in quality, which I can't say of cremants, cavas, proseccos, or any other sparklers I've tasted, even the ones I've enjoyed.

Very nice, bright orchard fruit accented with yeast, chalk, and floral notes, and just a touch of sweetness balanced by bright acidity. Still young, but I'd rather err on this side than risk premox given the state of the '02s.

Not much change from previous note. A solid sparkling wine, a bit hollow on the mid palate perhaps, but some nice secondary notes emerging. Will wait on my remaining bottles.

Very pretty, well-balanced wine. A striking Chenin nose of sweet green apples and minerals introduces a subtle, impeccably balanced palate of sweet green fruits, sharp minerals, and sneaky acidity. The fizz here is only light-to-moderate, and the overall impression is of a shy, almost subdued wine. But the quality is here, and so is the complexity. Lovely with food. I bet it will improve.

Very nice and pleasant nose of apple pie and spices, vanilla, pie crust, lemon zest, and some mineral underpinning. Not complex, but very pleasing balance of acid and fruit sweetness. Opened up as the evening progressed, though the carbonation here is on the low end, and didn't keep pace with the progression of flavors in the wine. Received this as a gift. Liked it very much, but wouldn't trade over a well selected $45 grower champagne.

Medium yellow-gold color, abundant medium bead. Aromas of toasty pear, flowers, and minerals. Palate shows coarse mineral and pear notes that move into a floral, toasty, mineral finish with lemon and quince notes to it. Drinkable enough, but lacking finesse I was expecting. Drink.

Shocked at how much this has improved in 2.5 years. On release it was a fairly awkward and neutral drink with light green apple notes that were dominated by the wines autolytic character. Since then, it has really filled out nicely and tastes and smells very much like traditional Vouvray. Notes of honey, peach, apple, and hints of apricot on the palate. Finishes with incisive acidity and chalk. Fair amount of residual sugar, but it is very attractive; the wine wears it with elegance and grace. It helps gives the wine an almost hedonistic quality. Wine is just starting to deepen to a golden color and woolly aromas just starting to present themseves. I think the wines secondary phase is probably just emerging, and no doubt this wine will be even better in a few more years, but there is absolutely no harm in drinking this beauty now. I almost wish I hadn't, since I am going to be tempted to polish off all 11 remaining bottle in the next month! Absolutely delicious and the smartest $225.00 I have ever spent on a case of wine.
I was surprised by the lack of bubbles when I popped the cork and poured. I guess I expected more champagne-like flavors, but this tasted and smelled very much like chenin. High acid, still very primary and absolutely delicious.

Yellow/gold in color. Nice mousse, but very little bead. Mineral, apple and floral elements on the nose. Nicely balanced light palate of wheat, apple and chalk with a tad of honey sweetness dropping in and out. Looking for a little more acid and spritz. Very nice, but I am not a fan of this style.

consistent tn's. This could very easily be my house Sparkling wine. Forever. But if I did, I'd be broke. One bottle (per occasion) is not enough, and one bottle per week is not enough. It's as if there's some secret message embedded in the last glass that says "open another", and you have no power but to do what you're told. recommended
First time I think I've had this wine from any vintage. Rich, floral and perfumed aromatic start. Palate of mostly apple with a rounded character and a sense of sweet and lush fruit without really showing residual sugar. Very good mineral and acid elements come through in middle and finish. This should age nicely as it picks up more nuance.

The color is light gold and the bubbles are fine and plentiful. The smells are toast, lime, and a hint of grass. The tastes are grapefruit, lime zest, some honey, bright lemony citrus notes, and sour candy like a sweet tart. The acidity is lively and a nice 30 + second finish.

I haven't had this offering from Huet before, and wasn't sure what to expect. The bouquet is wonderful, with lots of grapefruit, lees, red apple, and a subtle saline note. It's dry and light, with tongue-tingling acidity that lifts the citrus and white peach flavors all throughout your palate. I enjoyed the finish immensely, with beautiful floral and stone fruit notes that lingered with a seemingly effortless grace. Great QPR too.

Mute nose. Pears and slightly tart apples on the palate. Loose bubbles. An easy drink. Not particularly complex, likely would add some weight and depth with some bottle time. Enjoyable on a hot summer day. Fun to drink now and since I hear that life is short -- why wait?

Straw colour. Aromas of crisp apple, pear, lime and a hint of floral. Taste of green apples, lemon, herbal spicy notes on a long and creamy finish. Unlike champagne this does not have a toasty note. Crisp, clean and refreshing. A very different sparkling wine. Served with halibut, new potatoes with mint and califlower with mustard sauce.

Initially, lemon and sweet biscuit on the nose. Deepened with air to something more complex and interesting - added a bitter (in a good way) aroma/flavor reminiscient of apricot pit/cherry pit or that bitter almond taste you get when you chomp on an apple seed. With more time yet added another level -- an aroma of sweet white raisins. An intense and nervy wine that demands your attention (and sets your ears a-tingling). Wonderful quaffed by itself while the complex depth of flavors made it a great food pairing too. Will order more. 12% abv

The first of six purchased last fall. Served on Easter Sunday at 48-50F in Riedel Vinum Chardonnay glasses with appetizers. Light yellow color, modest mousse and perlage. Fragrant citrusy, nutty, peachy aromatics, with green apples, pears, and mineral on the palate. Wonderful fresh broad mouth feel, very good balance and a lingering crisp finish. This was a delightfully accessible drink and a great value that I will enjoy over the next 10+ years.

Perhaps because we waited too long, this wine is not especially distinctive—faint flowers and honey in the nose and on the palate, plus some nondescript citrusy flavors. It’s quite pleasant and refreshing—just not especially characterful.

Stong, underripe pineapple aromatics. Barely perceptible sugar but terrific finishing acidity and minerality. I've tasted this several times before and this was the best showing by far because of its tension and cut.

Lovely sparkler that was a nice apperitif and went well with Imperial Canadian oysters. Sexy wine that has solid nose gratificiations which deliver on the palate. Crisp apples, good lemon meringue, with dry minerality and a tantilizing mousse that drives home the tart crispness of the yellow and green fruits wrapped around a sunny day in the drying straw fiels in Loire Valley. Lacks really good champagnes depth, finish and yeastiness but a gorgeous lean fruit centric sparkler.

The nose leaps out of the glass with fantastic apple pie scents touched with a spritz of lemons. I could smell this all day! It has a great luxurious feel on the palate due to some larger bubbles. Even apple flavors show, and a good touch of yeast gives a round sensation on the palate. The acidity sets in late and stays gentle but firm to blend with a touch of sweetness. 90-

Priorat and Ribera del Duero (Willamette Wine Storage, Portland, OR): Very nice minerals on the nose, which is also slightly tart. Minerals, green apples, zingy acid, and a pleasant touch of bubbles made this the best "appetizer" wine I've ever served. Disappeared in about 5 minutes over bread, cheese, olives, and other nibbles before our Greek feast. You just cannot go wrong with Huet.

Pop and pour. Yellow fruit, pears on the nose, a touch of wet stones, fairly fruit driven without a lot of depth at this point, but nice. On the palate, there is a nice balance of fruit and acid, it is simple but enjoyable and has sufficient acidity. Not a lot of effervesance, which surprised me. Original rating: 87
Day 2: Wow what a difference a day made. Almost no bubbles left, but the nose and palate blossomed beautifully. Now showing chamomile a touch of wool, oxidized apple and mineral/chalk notes along with the yellow fruits from day 1. On the palate, there is greater depth and weight on day 2. More complexity of flavor and the texture is smooth, rich and light. Long finish with good complexity.

Huet is the Vouvray genious extraordinarius though I find it somewhat vexing that I don’t love Vouvray, but this “bubbly” Vouvray is a delicious taste treat. Flavor profile is fruit forward green apple, some pink grapefruit, a little of its zest, some pretty wet stone, but not alot of minerality. There is a softness to the flavor profile, not sweet in a residual sugar way. It’s an open book kind of wine that doesn't offer up all its secrets in the first chapters that's for sure. The flavor profile is bright and outgoing with a persistent finish of bright kiss of citrus. The bubbles are gentle, don’t expect a fine bracing bead or super fine mousse a la Champagne. One thing is for sure, the Petillant engages you and all you need to do is get in the car and go along for the lovely ride. You’ll be laughing all the way.

Lovely wine, more of a fizzy white than a sparkling wine in my book. Really shines once it loses a bit of fizz and warms up. A big fruit bowl of flavor hits first followed by sweet baking spices running into a nice, minerally finish. First methode ancestrale wine that I've had AFAIK, and I quite enjoy this style. I imagine this is the best of the best in that category though.
A bit overpowered with strong flavors in food. Will try again with very simple shellfish though.

Yum! This bottle was deeeeelicious. Beautiful golden hue, lively effervescence but not foamy... just fine steaks of elegant bubbles. Nose offered notes of sugar cookie, lemon, wet stone, almond and more. Full delicious flavor, soft mouthfeel, mouthwatering acidity, and a scrumptious finish all combined for a really pleasurable drinking experience. This bottle brings the complexity and finesse of a great Champagne plus just a hint of that Vouvray sweetness to make it extra hedonistic. Highly recommended if you can get your hands on some.

Interesting sparkler. Nice mousse, but very light bead. Pale straw in color. Mineral and floral elements on a subdued nose. Tasty light balanced palate. Chalk, hint of lemon, apple and a tad of honey sweetness blended with a mineral element. Low acid, but very enjoyable when you accept the fact that this is not Champagne, but a Loire chenin blanc sparkling wine.

Beautiful yeast and lemon aroma. Lemon chiffon flavors up front with a bracing mineral laced finish. "Understated" is a word used in several notes, and it's an appropriate one, but with the firm acid backbone I found that it stood up quite well to the TDay melange. Excellent wine, that is still developing after being open for over three hours.

gentle and lovely wine, clean and pure. not terribly expressive however. that's not necessarily a bad thing, but this bottle was more understated than any previous Huet Petillant that I've had. I've been drinking a lot of the 02s..a difficult act to follow...yet this still remains one of the best sparkling wines outside of Champagne...on the planet...there is a honey/richness that I like...that originates from the Chenin Blanc -- we're all used to drinking Champagne from the three varietals. This wine does have a bigger mouthfeel as well. Enjoyable, yet not overly intellectual or complex.

TN: Huet, Donnhoff, Grey Stack, Brainaire, Jaffurs, Taylors and Ramey; 10/23/2010-10/25/2010: A delicious way to start an evening. I was surprised that there is a slightly sweet aspect to this. Probably more from lots of ripe fruit than RS and in no way unpleasant or too much. This is, of course, sparkling, but without a lot of bubbles. That, along with crisp acidity, make it a natural food wine. Yet, on its own, the bottle was emptied very quickly. Really well done.

Beautiful bottle. Is it crazy that the petillant is becoming my favorite Huet? Anyway, this is so pretty, with the main distinguishing thing about it being its slender, feminine figure. Stylistically, it's very different from the 2002 (even in comparison to the way the 2002 showed on release), more open-knit and less acute. It's also more fruity than mineral, but the fruit has this sunny, spring-like freshness to it that has you constantly reaching for another sip even though it leaves a pretty powerful and sustaining imprint of itself on the finish. As per usual, the fizz is fairly soft, and in the more bracing vintages I sometimes find myself craving a more aggressive Champagne-like fizz, but in this case I think the calmer mousse really complements the personality of the fruit.

Light straw. No detailed notes, but it went well with the sweeter appetizers (like fig spread, double cream brie, etc). Nice mousse, good cut, clean finish.

It seemed slightly sweet at first, but as I drank it the sweetness seemed to disappear. The nose is funky and overall it seems rather Old World. Green fruit on the finish. I would seek this out.

12% abv

Purity. Fine bead. If Chenin blanc had royal blood, this would be it. Drank this way too young. So much fun.

Good, not great. A step up from your normal sparkler for sure though. Give this some air that, changed markedly after seeing some aeration.

Not sure what happened here; whether it's an off bottle or if this is starting to shut down. Pleasant quince, hay and light yeasty aromas, but it's very unyielding in the mouth, showing almost nothing and only opening up slightly after a couple of days in the fridge.

Great with a cheese plate and with Thanksgiving fare. Bright bubbles with a nice acidic backbone. Lemon, quince, apples, and minerals. Could drink this everyday!

We drank it at a great Japanese restaurant and it didn't stand up to everything we ate. I think I need to try another bottle.

Delightful; bright yellow Chenin fruit and light floral and mineral notes on a medium weight frame lifted by gentle effervescence. It's very understated and calm, but with plenty of presence and all too easy to drink.

Delish! Dry and light on a mineral-driven palate. Lemon, quince, chalk, honey, and tart green apples. A great food wine that just screams for cheese. Can't beat it for $25! Huet is quickly becoming one of our favs.

For a not Champaign sparkling wine this is pretty darn good. The acidity really lifts it up and holds it together. A bit reductive on the back end. Fun, if a bit simple. I am drinking it a bit warm though.

Light straw. No detailed notes, but it went well with the sweeter appetizers (like fig spread, double cream brie, etc). Nice mousse, good cut, clean finish. Nothing remarkable, but everything I ask for in a $50 Champagne and this was much cheaper ($25)! Oh, and it also still had that nice minerality of Chenin Blanc.

I'm not sure what to make of this wine. It was kind of like drinking air. Smooth and fantastic mouthfeel, but just not a ton of flavor or nose. Delicious, but inscrutable.

For whatever odd reason, I have a hard time writing TN’s for sparkling wines, call it the “dancing to architecture’ syndrome or whatever, but I really did enjoy this as I do pretty much anything from this Domaine. Intense apple and mineral at the core, very small bubbles, tight, but very enjoyable. Oh yeah, this was $25.

100% Chenin Blanc. Crisp, subtle aromas on the nose with notes of citrus, mineral and very distant sweet ginger. Refreshing and crisp in the mouth with a simple and fruity flavor profile of green apple, citrus and fresh yeast.
