Near perfection in a slightly aged white wine. Explodes in the mouth with lime and lime blossom. Then it grabs on with chalky grip, shows a lovely spice melange and fans out into an underripe tropical orchard finish. The finish goes on and on. Such good juice.

Sexy wine, in a lovely place at the moment. Somehow the trademark Chenin crabapple note has been concentrated so that it's now more like zesty, piquant lime, and there were also plenty of savoury, wheaty notes and a peppery finish. Really moreish and mouthwatering, and rich enough to pair with a stirfry despite being pretty dry.

This showed wonderfully as other recent tasters have described. I worry a bit about oxidation and bottle variation, especially on the Huet secs, but this was so clear-fruited and inviting.

Yellowy gold. A superb nose, sharp, pungent and aromatic green fruit. As with all wines of this nature 'sec' is not really dry, what it really means is "the driest possible and the others we make are a lot sweeter". So this has a distinctive sweetness to it, but this translates into an attractively rich mouthfeel rather than being cloying in any way. It is also crystalline, there is an excellent balance of acidity that takes over past the first taste and which keeps this wine fresh (as a daisy frankly even at 13yo). It was just lovely. Honied notes and yellow fruits prominent. A wine for sipping on its own if you fancy it before a meal, or it will pair with many foods. We had this with low-rent chicken and chips and it was wonderful. I will be honest and say that this is not a wine I would like to drink regularly, but that takes nothing away from what is a high quality bottle and I am very glad I have a case. No hurry either.

Lovely. Slightly wet wool nose at first, some fruit aromas but not strong. Main impression is in the mouth, slight sweetness that balances significant acidity. Lots of fruit. Almost crunchy, wonderful mouthfeel.
Paired with chicken leg, and butternut squash cooked baked with feta and onion. Brilliant match with the squash and feta in particular - acidity was a great counter to richness of olive oil and feta, but complemented sweetness of cooked squash.
Just as good on day 2, wet wool aroma gone.
No sense that this is tiring, seems very vital and masses of acidity to sustain it. Have a couple more in the cellar, interesting to see how these develop.

I’ll be honest: I’ve yet to drink a chenin blanc that completely won me over. I like this wine, and I find it distinctive due to its flavors of quince and dry honey. But I also find that it lacks energy.

Marvelous wine. Not quite fully dry. Quince and mineral. A mere trace of honey. Tremendous acidity, giving a powdery (?chalk dust) feeling in the mouth and is very refreshing. Over the years I've focused on Demi-sec and sweeter Huet, and wish I'd bought more Sec.
Drinking well but I'm sure it can outlive me. So I'm glad I had this bottle before it had the chance to do so.
Excellent match for glazed ham but would be for many things. It survived asparagus soup but was diminished by it.

Epic performance, more impressive than I would have figured it had any right to be at just 11 years old. It's got a commanding presence right from the first sip - massive in scale and packed with personality. On the entry it has a chalky, gauzy texture so palpable it feels tannic, then on the back end it solidifies further into a crystal crunch. It's dripping with bright neon-yellow fruit so concentrated it feels like it ought to pour out like a slow treacle but it feels only barely sweet. Over the next couple days it slims down a bit without losing any character. You usually have to wait longer to get a Huet this profound.

Il présente la richesse du millésime, une tendreté avec un peu de sucre résiduel. Sa minéralité et une certaine tension viennent toutefois bien contrebalancer le tout. Beau vin à point.

Serious yum. Great dry extract, big nearly searing acids, and lots of fruit (enough to have an offdry palate impact), giving a terrific sweet-tart tango on the tongue. The attack is meyer lemon, the finish is candied ginger, with some sherries nuances. Not much complexity, but otherwise it’s all money. 92-93 pts.

My first of these and it did not disappoint. Comes across as just off dry, great density of fruit. It has a long finish with a bit of powdery texture that I think is due in part to the wonderful acidity.

One of the best white wines I had in 2018 .... simply delicious and with a great future ahead ... too bad I did not buy more. Citrus notes, flowers, very unctuous in the mouth, nice acidity in the final that goes on and on

Still a baby, drank from a 375ml over two nights. Honey, lanolin and flowers up front (and in the nose), a nice citrus-apple saline mid palate with a waxy floral finish. Delicious.

This bottle of the Haut-Lieu was showing beautifully, opening in the glass with an expressive but youthfully vibrant bouquet of honey suckle, tart apple, lime, beeswax and classic Chenin Blanc lanolin. On the palate, the wine is elegantly glossy, racy and mouthwatering, with a superb line of acidity, a deep core of succulent fruit, and a long, tingling finish. It would be hard to ask for much more from a young bottle of Haut-Lieu sec.

Tart and ripe apple that leads with a honeyed nose. Surprising acidity for a relatively ripe vintage, and the fruit almost, but not quite keeps pace. Last had this just after release, and this bottle after about 6 years seemed the same as the last. Softened after a night in the kitchen fridge. Wife loved it. Paired especially well with spicy Vietnamese tofu, which was admittedly accidental, but serendipitous nonetheless.

Quite rich and lush, showing a bit more depth than this vineyard sometimes does, and the flesh of the warmer vintage; but has a nice touch of saline umami, and a bit of minerality poking through on the long finish. Quite tasty.

Wow, Huet's '09 & '10 secs haven't evolved much since I started drinking them five years ago. That's not a bad thing; I loved them then, and they're still fine. On the sweeter side of sec. Crystalline lemon and zest, sweet peach, crushed rock. I hope I still have some to revisit in a decade or two.

Lhl is my least favorite vineyard in the huet stable. I find it light and simple, although still good. This exceeded my expectations. Peach, melon, lemon, light honey. Tons of acid. Still young, this could go forever. On the light side still. Just starting to develop a bit. Very good.

This was seriously tasty. Very chenin in profile with a good sweetness for a Sec, and filled with puckering acidity. I found this pretty thrilling, in a somewhat primary way. If this holds together, it will drink great tonight and for another 10+ years. 92-93 pts.

Exceeded expectations, as most Huet (that aren't pox'd) do, with the layers of fruit I'd hoped for, but also the proper acidity to carry it all gracefully and enjoyably. Drinking really well right now, and sure makes me wish I had a case (or three) in the cellar for the next 10 or 20 years. This had quite a lot to say on the nose and palate and is no doubt going to evolve positively for years to come. A tremendous value. recommended
PnP, served non-blind.

Very light Meyer Lemon in color. Potent acidity. As much as a good German Riesling. Very dry. Medium bodied. Citric and mineral notes. Good structure. Puckery finish. Paired it with Peruvian Pork tamales and beef empanadas. Given the sweetness of both dishes, I should've pulled the Demi-sec.

Paired nicely with Salmon steamed in parchment with asparagus, summer squash, mushrooms, thyme, parsley, and cilantro. Nose was a bit dull but revealed tart citrus, chalk, mead, dried herbs, and minerals. The nose transferred over to the palate with the addition of quince and rocks. Give this some air or more time in the cellar.

Quite rich and lush for a Huet Sec, mark of the warmer vintage. Has a lot of flavor and flesh, but good acidity for balance, a twist of saline, and a little kick of minerality on the finish. A more rounded version than the bookends of 2008 and 2010, but no less enjoyable.

This is a great wine tonight. Needs some air for about an hour, but then flowers and crisp apples with lip-smacking fruit and acidity. Don't know if John Gilman is a 10 year old to put a 2020-2070 drinking window, but obviously no one on this forum will be able to verify it. He should get real and realize there is no bad time for Huet.
Nose: apples, cider. Palatte. Very big. Bursting with flavour and length. Eye-opening and mouthwatering. Off-dry. Highly enjoyable. Years of life ahead.

Light gold color. PNP, shared a bottle at Vincent's for our anniversary. This was an excellent pairing to go with our Sole Meuniere and Crispy Confit Duck. The nose is effusive and has a nice earthiness with florals, minerals, citrus, and tropical notes. The palate is nicely crisp with citrus, lime, lemon, pear, and tropical fruits layered in a mouthwateringly fresh medium bodied wine that finishes long and with lift and energy. Outstanding.

My first bottle for a couple of years after becoming concerned at dwindling stock levels of a wine I considered in need of some bottle age. Although still delicious, I think, or hope, it needs more time. In its infancy the acidity and fruitiness filled the mouth to a thrilling but almost painful degree. Now they are slightly more muted (relatively) and at present there is not much filling the void that this mellowing has created. This may be an awkward young man phase; the adolescent testerone having diminished but the complexity and self-assurance of age still some time away. Or it may just fade away, increasingly disjointed as it attempts to live up to its youthful promise. It will be interesting to swap notes with it as our parallel development continues.

At first an exuberant if all over the place nose, full of honey and beesway and acidity, beautiful to drink and a great match with various cheeses. After half a day it comes together but also shuts down, still delicious the next day but this is ready to be left alone in the cellar.

Thursday Night Mixed Bag (Andrew's House): Popped and poured, followed for the course of the evening. Served blind. Light straw colour in the glass. On the nose, heavy citrus notes of lemon and lime zest, crushed rocks, and with air gaining further depth by way of peach, light florals and a seemingly a touch of oak. There were also some gooseberry notes, which had me thinking Sauvignon Blanc for a moment. On the palate, nice crisp acidity, with strong tastes of citrus, mineral and a touch of vanilla rounding out the long finish. Quite a bit of residual sugar present, which made this a very difficult wine to pin down.

Crisp lime and tart pineapple fruit. The wine is dry but it leaves a faint impression of sweetness like a dry riesling. The finish is long with salty minerals. Not overly complex but a delicious summer wine. At $30 bucks not necessarily the best QPR though. I don't know much about the Loire Valley but I will definitely search out more Huet and Chidaine Sec wines to try as the few I have had were tasty.

Very pale yellow. The nose opens with citrus, mineral and a whiff of pear. Very bitter like aperitif, with some Meyer Lemon and a touch of minerals (saline) on the finish. This unique wine cleanses the palette and leaves a citrus aftertaste. Might have been better with raw shellfish like clams, mussels or oysters. While I understand it is still young, at this price point, I still would prefer a nice Sancerre. I can understand how this style would be appealing to some. Should be interesting to see how this wine evolves.

Nose is a bit reticent showing honeydew melon and a spritz of lemon. Medium bodied with medium acidity. Peach and pear with palpable, almost spritzy, minerality. Finishes with a bit of lemon and lemon pith. Fantastic juice, perhaps a bit less vibrant at this stage than the '10.

Citrusy and minerally with notes of stone fruit on the first day - would be difficult to distinguish from a high quality QbA Riesling. After a couple days in the fridge, the Chenin character really shines through, with apple, quince, and guava, and flinty, floral, hay notes. A slight perception of sweetness on the rich palate, with a dry, minerally, quince finish. Liked this a lot.

Aromas of pear, fig, almost tropical fruit notes, white flowers and a chalky minerality. Full-bodied with pear, apple, citrus and tropical fruit notes. Bright acidity with a layered and rich mouthfeel with honeyed and toasted grain notes that lead into a long, mineral-laden finish. There is a trace of RS on this, but there is more than enough acidity that there really isn't any impression of sweetness. No doubt this shows the ripeness of 2009, but this a wonderfully balanced wine that will be fun to check in on with some bottle age.

Delicate, balanced, firm, focused; lychee and quince, orange and lilac blossoms, a bit of spice that spreads with air. There is no sign of the flabbiness of some 09s - would be curious to try this next to the '08 version, though. Very well done.

Consumed over 3-4 hours. Nose of muted tropical fruit, explodes on the palate with extraordinary grapefruit pith, citrus zest, bracing acidity and kaleidoscope of minerals minerals minerals that continues for 40+ seconds. I agree with other TNs that there is more residual sugar than a sec would ordinarily have, but certainly more sec territory than demi-sec and the acidity and balance are spot on. Beautiful now, but like many Huet's, will improve with cellaring. How can you possibly wait when it tastes this great already??

Pale straw/gold color. Beautiful aromas of lemon zest, pineapples, peaches with wet wool character, and lively minerality. So lively in the mouth with creamy tart lemon/lime meringue, pineapples, unripe peaches, and electric minerality. Excellent acidity but still rounded. Not as searing as other vintages but still electric. Nice long finish of minerals, lemon zest, and lime. Lovely stuff.

Fairly dry, and a bit lean, with some green apple, red apple skin, good acidity, but turns to citrus on the finish, which fades a bit too fast. A decent and enjoyable quaff, not bad value, but lacking some stuffing and interest.

This seems sweeter than usual by the standards of Huet sec, certainly sweeter-tasting to me than I remember either the '05 or '02 being. It still has the expected purity of fruit and the slick veneer somehow doesn't get in the way of this crystalline finish that feels like it leaves stalactites of quartz in its wake. Interestingly the sweetness seems to recede in the leftovers after a few days. This ought to be a superb Huet in 20 years or so.

Drank with the other two 09 Huet Secs. My third favorite of the three which is kind of like picking between a blond Angelina Jolie, a brunette Angelina Jolie, and a red-headed Angelina Jolie. Obviously everyone is happy. A bit more acidic than the other two but with not as much minerality or roundness. Very good wine, just may need a bit more time to round itself out. 90+ pts.

Not a big fan of the genre, but nevertheless this was a steller example. Clean and clear in the glass, with a nose of florals and citrus oil, the palate is a complex mix of tart green apple, quince, and touches of clover honey and sea salt, all tinged with a streak of minerality and a balancing acidic backbone. Would like to revisit this with another year or two of age on the bottle, as it should lay down well. Terrific structure.

Nice golden hue. Rich flavors of lemon curd. I pick up some of the residual sugar, which affords the rounded flavor profile. Overall impression of depth and balance. This was consumed with a meal of lemon shrimp over roasted onions and fennel... so it had a lot to contend with...

Lovely nose of fresh apples, lime, grass and yeasty minerals. A full-throttle old world wine with deeply concentrated flavors of peach, lychee, apricot and minerals balanced by bracing acidity. Intense yet lighter-bodied with a real spicy, minerally aftertaste. Really lovely and well-balanced though this is clearly a rich, exotic vintage of this wine. Yum with pan-fried, sesame tuna.

Nose is clean, with medium intensity. That bottle has been open a day so its showing some oxidation, which wasn't there yesterday of course.
I want to say the palate is off-dry but its hard to tell because the acidity is medium +, or even high for a Vouvray. The alcohol isn't noticeable to me, so medium. The body, suprisingly with acidity is medium + and the flavor intensity is medium+, showing right now mostly fruit characteristics, and because of this I find it enjoyable to drink now. The finish is lengthy, with the fruit holding on across the acidity, giving a very textured experience to the finish.
In short, this is very good in quality, it will improve, and its exciting to drinking because of the unqiue balancing act between acidity, fruit concentration and body.

Still somewhat subdued on the nose, this Huet Sec nonetheless had a solid aromatic display of maritime charms: sea mist, fresh lime juice, and a strong mineral under current. The palate was much more open and alive, seamlessly presenting rich pineapple and mango flavors buffered against the core of a terrific acidic backbone. One sip might leave a small wake of tropical soaked fruit one second; the next sip is like a wave of cleansing firepower, just so fresh and delightful. Hard to fathom a more versatile white at the table than this.

This was on sale for $24, and for this kids taste, I don't think you could do better, period. Infanticide. A great deal of potential: delicate fruit (pear, stone, apricot, honeysuckle?), very pretty acidity, concentration without weight, minerals. It all feels unresolved currently. This could warrant a higher rating if it all comes together later. "Sappy" (as I read in other reviews) is a good description of the slightly glycerine-y weight in the mouth.

This is good stuff. Acid, acid everywhere but there is a nice buffer of fruit with even a slight touch of sweetness that provides a nice foil to the acidic structure. An incredible sense of minerality, great mouthfeel and flavor impact with a finish that lingers and coats the mouth. Young, of course, but a nice preview into the vintage. When everything integrates down the road, this should be great. If this is representative of the rest of the '09 Huet Secs, I'm a buyer.

Lhl is my least favorite vineyard in the huet stable. I find it light and simple, although still good. This exceeded my expectations. Peach, melon, lemon, light honey. Tons of acid. Still young, this could go forever. On the light side still. Just starting to develop a bit. Very good.

A tremendous value. recommended

Bright and pale lemon green in color.

Beautiful and striking acidity across the palate and finish. So much more user friendly than NZ SB.

This was on sale for $24, and for this kids taste, I don't think you could do better, period. At once delicate, yet such an expressive specimen of Chenin apple and pear, oyster shell shavings reminiscent of high end Chablis, concluding with an acid loaded finish that is deep and long. My, I do love Huet Secs.

good balance. pleasant acidity, delicate fruit (apricot, pear). Agree with the slight "sappy" weight in the mouth. I plan to wait a few years before drinking the other bottles in my cellar.

Plenty of acid and minerality on the palette: citrus flavor of lime and lemon. Great structure. If I was tasting blind I would have guessed it was a Sauvignon Blanc young. Zesty, citrus, and bright. Great introduction to Chenin Blanc.

Huet Evening, Including 1947 Haut Lieu (San Francisco): Surprising residual sugar and tropical fruit for a Sec, but this also had good underlying structure to carry it many years.

Green apples, pears, lemons and immense tangy acidity. Very tasty, especially at $29. Damn. I might buy it for twice that price.

Pale straw. Clean, fresh nose with minerality and greengages. Powerful and zesty on the just off-dry palate. Long lingering flavours of lemon and lime, nectarine and orange peel. Lovely subtle creamy toffee notes in the long finish. Excellent.

100% Chenin Blanc. Crisp and citric on the nose with notes of grapefruit and minerality. Very silky, smooth in the mouth with a good citric balance and fruity sweetness, although this is a dry wine with only 9.5 g/l of residual sugars. There are flavors of apple and lemon.
