Too sharp on the pnp but kept gaining weight and flavor over the course of the 3 hours in which we demolished it. This is a crazy good value. Really well-made wine.

Took some time in the glass for the nose to open to a fairly toasted, sweet wooden nose in a blackberry blanket. Wood almost like a Spanish vanilla laden American oak. Entry is tasty of blackberry and leather, ending spicy and strong. This is well done with a nice mid-weight in a straight line throughout the profile. Tannins mid-grained, present but not drying. Years left.

Excellent again. Still has some primary blackberries and cassis notes but some Underwood and black truffles join the bouquet. I would enjoy it over the next decade.

Chocolate, berries, smoke. Dry. Still massive tannins. Very long finish. Only at first slightly bitter. Turns balsamic with air: Wet wood, wax, berries. getting more complex.

On opening a clean grape juice nose with only a touch of wood and earth - nice, but reticent. Entry is clean and sweet blueberry with tobacco coming on late mid mouth. Nice mid-weight throughout a very linear profile. Tannins are late, but large grained. good energy to the finish in particular. A lot of life left in this mostly from a still to evolve tannic backbone. Well done but actually feels a bit early to drink. I have it until 2032 which is fine for now. The chalky finish I noted previously is evolving away nicely. Present but better...

Definitely an improvement over the last bottle I had. It is coming into its own for sure. Lovely Bordeaux 'funk'. Decant helped it come around and revealed really nice fruit.

Dark ink in the glass. Nose dark fruit and a fair amount of vanilla wood. Entry is tasty, good vibrancy with a heavy dark fruit and wood component in a mid to heavier weight mouth with a fairly persistent garrigue spice and toasted wood finish. A touch of chalky greeness detracts. Wood still needs to melt down a bit.

Lunch at New Ubin. Drank in Gabriel Standart. Appearance is clear, deep intensity, ruby colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of blackcurrant, blackberries, cassis, dark leather, licorice, cigarbox, toasted vanilla oak. Developing. On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium+ alcohol (14%), approachable high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of blackberries, blackcurrant, cassis, cigarbox ash, dark leather, black licorice, toasty wood with a small lick of vanilla. Long finish. Very good quality. Layered. Packs quite a lot of complexity in a neat package. Youngish at the moment, though certainly not a sin to drink now. Excellent QPR offering good development over the next 4-5 years as it ages more. 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot.

2009 Bordeaux 10 years in the bottle 2-day horizontal; 6/23/2019-6/24/2019 (Fribourg): Part of a grand Bordeaux 2009 tasting spanning 2 days that revealed 1) a right bank struggling with overripe fruit and overwhelming tannins, 2) wide spreak between top performers and laggards, 3) left bank, and especially Margaux, outshone the right bank cousins, 4) Top wines: Palmer, Margaux, Cheval Blanc, Vieux Chateau Certan.
Tasting note: More animal flavours. Darkish fruit, some fine leather. Palate still heavy on tannins and a rather short finish.

Bordeaux 2009 - 10 Years On - 47 Reds; 6/23/2019-6/24/2019: 2009 Bordeaux after 10 years. 48 red wines. The left bank (average rating 94.2) clearly trumps the right bank (92.6): Elegance, purity and freshness vs over-extraction, ripeness and oxidation. But there are some winners on the right bank (Cheval, Petrus, Hosanna for now, Lafleur, Trotanoy medium-term) but the highest scores were given to left bank wines (Margaux #1 overall, Palmer, Mouton, for now, Latour, St. Juliens medium-term). I guess purists will not like the loads of oak-derived aromas which in some wines are great but can make the wines a bit slutty (Cheval, Margaux, quite a lot of right banks). But there are plenty of more classically shaped wines too. Overall, the 2009s are a lot of fun with many pockets of greatness but I would be very selective on the right bank. If you like more elegant, subtle and classic wines I would focus on 2005/2010/2016. All wines tasted blind and without decanting.
TN: The nose was on a very good (94 points) level with ripe fruit, roasted herbs and almonds. On the palate a below 90 point experience with alcohol and acidity not in balance. Not one to chase but not entirely bad either.
Average blind score 4 tasters: 92.5 Rank: 35th out of 48 wines (shared rank with d'Issan)

Gorgeous and layered on the nose - dark fruit, cassis, plums, floral notes, sweet spices, tobacco. Ripe, generous but also super vibrant and fresh on the palate. The tannins are still quite present, but well integrated. Spicy finish, impressive length. Great wine. When taking the price into account just fabulous. Drink or keep. 92-94

In a difficult stage now. First evening: Dull and somehow "floppy. So I drank only a few drops and put the bottle in the fridge. Second evening: Much better structured and quite full bodied. But primary fruit has almost vanished and some drying Tannins are dominating a bit the whole thing. The appearance is now more like a classic northern Medoc (like Sociando M.) than a modern crowd pleaser. Smooth, with fresh acid but rather short and diluted finish on the 3rd evening. But not much fun at the Moment.
Better wait until 2018. I´m pretty sure this wine turn into a very good Claret with a little more aging. Supposedly best between 2018 - 2025 (or even 2030).

Classic nose, strong with a rich fruit and appropriate wood with just a touch of vanilla. Entry is very flavouful and juicy with a good weight and plummy richness. No dead spots and a rich closing with fine tannins well back in the profile. This is very good.

Grade: VG. Too early for this highly extracted wine, come back in 4-5 years. This is not for those who prefer a traditional style of Bdx. Dense, deep purple, almost black, reticent nose of black fruit, pitch, menthol with a little funk, intense black fruit, graphite, burnt toast on the palate, bitter, firm tannins good acidity, slightly hollow mid-palate, medium, Indistinct finish. Very primary and a bit disjointed at this stage.

Decanted for an hour. Dark garnet color. Similar to previous note. Earthiness, leather and dark fruits. Nice structure but not long on the palate. Again, a solid wine and good representative of the 2009 vintage

Bordeaux 2009 vs. 2010 - Check in on 50 well known Chateaux: Medium purple, bright and shiny. Expressive "hello I am from Medoc" nose of black current, toast with a touch of smoke and wood. On the palate medium bodied with present acidity and tannins buffering the fruit. Still quite young but already drinkable if you are use to the young 2009 tannins. Drinking plateau probably 2015-2020. This is a well made modern Bordeaux that is hard to dislike. Of course the length could be higher, but hey this sells at 35$. Who says good Bordeaux from an exceptional vintage needs to be expensive... 92-93 Pts.

The wine has a deep garnet color. The nose is not real obvious at first but seems to open more after 30 min in the decanter. I get mostly earthiness and leather on the nose. Nice structure and medium bodied with hints of leather, pencil shavings, and stoniness. Mostly a simple solid wine without many secondary characteristics- Maybe they will show up over the next 3-4 years. I like Clos Manou and believe it's a good QPR and solid representative wine of the 2009 vintage

Unusually bright purple and pink rim. Nose is delightful and straightforward; rich vanilla driven fruit. Smooth tasty entry that starts light weight and continues building to a dusty long finish.Tannins amazingly approachable today. No one will not like this. Not overly complex at this stage, but well done with a modern touch.

Decanted through a vinturi then served. Medium depth purple/ruby in color, this wine has more fruit than earth tones on the nose. On the palate: blackberry, cassis, plum, some mocha, and hints of oak are well supported and reasonably long. Just a baby and still fairly primary, wait 2-3 if you can.
