Dinner at Piccolo (Piccolo, Mpls): Gorgeous deep gold color. PNP, drank 1 glass over 40 minutes. This was the star of the night - no surprise there! Immensely complex and thought provoking on the nose and palate. The nose has great phenolic character, what I tend to call lacquer, dried fruits, fig, nutty, dried pear, apple, quince, spicebox, and prominent anise note emerges as it opens. The palate is dense, layered and full bodied, carrying power and texture, nutty, phenolic, dried fruits, lemon, oily, pear, quince, anise, and great dried spice. This has a long finish. Reminds me of an older LDH Rioja. Wonderful wine, just hitting its stride I suspect, as this kept improving in the glass. 94 to 94+pts.
Absolutely lovely wine. Needs to be decanted for 30min. Enjoy now as this wine will shut down for 10-15yrs and emerge from it beauty sleep amazing. Ermitage Whites are approachable young but then go to sleep for 10-15yrs. They open to rivel the great Montrachets of Burgundy
Glorious, rich wine. Some creamed corn in the nose mixed with fruit and oak. Really started to come along after being opened for one hour. Something different and a wonderful accompaniment to quenelles. (94)
Perfect bottle. The colour is yellow/golden with a green touch. The nose is very Hermitage. Flowers and tropic fruit mixed with hay, sparemint and herbs. Some oak too. Smells almost like a red wine. Thick texture, big fat body, layered. Lovely flavours. Some mineral. A little low on acidity. But still a wine with some elegance and finess. Very nice wine.
Utifrån 2010:an blev vinet bara succesivt sämre ju äldre årgång vi provade.
Great wine! The wine itself was the color of butter ( a little lighter), and had crystals throughout it. Very smooth in my mouth. Had hints of salt and sugar, pears, and nuts.. Stone and minerals shot through the finish. It left my mouth with a bold presence. Beatiful coatings on my wine glass. Would love to check it out in a few more years.
Wow! Intense, rich, complex, and intoxicating. Salted caramel, pear, hazelnut, butter, vanilla bean yogurt, cheese, citrus, creme brûlée, and spice. Was still thinking about this the next day. Massively structured. Rocked with Lin cod. Massive finish. Had that oily mouthfeel yet still glided over the palate without killing the tastebuds. Would love to try an older example. A bit out of my price range but would seek out a bottle for a special occassion.
We are argueing about alcohol. This versus Le Meal. This to me isn't hot to me at all. The palate is way fat, but the label only says 13. Maybe more like 14?% But in any case...
Darn the palate. The palate is internal. Insane. Roasted cashews, pureed into a sauce, apricot, salt, saline. And a 2 minute finish. Not papricots, all secondary but in a great way. Just absolutely amazing. Very salty and incredibly lingering. And maybe a touch hot? Maybe not...
White wine Guigal Masterclass (Stockholm): Bright yellow colour. In the nose ripe yellow fruit, some honey, mineral, some oak, spicy, slightly flowery. Full bodied on the palate, oily, with mineral and noticeable mint notes, definitely concentrated, slightly closed, no developed notes yet. 93+ p Compared to the 2009, this wine shows more mineral and less fruit. Could be on its way to a closed phase (seems more likely for 2007 than for 2006), but I’m not really sure.
