Tar and blackcurrant immediately on nose, rich fruit in an integrated palate. Good to drink now and have pushed the score up a little considering it’s VFM.

No age on rim, quite closed nose initially but with lots of rich spicy fruit (plums / cinnamon) on the palate, long, soft tannins, easy to drink but nothing to grab the attention.

Deep- black cherry. Distinct aromas of fresh black cherry, blackberry, mulberry, violets, even rhubarb, alongside garrigue notes. There is a surprisingly fresh entry on the palate with lemon-edged acidity that balances nicely with the ripe fruit: redcurrant, mulberry and black cherry. The fruit is supported by elements of wild fennel, black olive and black pepper. There is a certain rawness and sinewyness to the mid-palate and whilst there is some richness given the riper 2009, the wine seems a little flat or monochrome. Feral notes also start to build as the wine opens. I just didn't find the wine that exciting.

Alc: 13%; Medium+ ruby with browning edges. Fairly intense aromas of blue fruits, ripe black cherries, camphor, white pepper and plum. There is also a savoury almost stemmy pepper note to it. The entry is juicy with an edge of lively acidity, allowing the wine to ride gentle over the palate. The mid-palate bursts with ripe squishy black cherries, blackberry, pepper, iodine and creme fraiche. There is also a touch of root beer, bay leaf and a textural feel of fresh cherry skins. Cardaman and lavender cream join later, giving a coolness to the back palate as that camphor comes through. More linear than broad, there is some complexity but not overly so. The finish had a sweet, almost dried fruit note with a hint of tar. Medium length, and could las a couple more years.

Dark with a vibrant red rim. classic Rhone Syrah on the nose, blackcurrant and cracked pepper. Quite big on the palate, still tannic, and a little lacking in acidity. Fairly simple but not unpleasant. A decent, honest Crozes - nothing to get too excited about, but serviceable.

Concentrated strong smell of mass-produced Côtes du Rhône with some damp cellar notes. Palate somewhat muted. Time in the decanter doesn't help, though the tannins soften a bit. Probably affected by TCA. This is a relatively mild case but we poured it down the drain anyway. Disappointment. Source: Sainsbury's (London, UK).

I found this offputting as it was a bit candied, with dominant cherry notes detracting from its typicity. Concentrated and monolithic. It took hours for a yeasty element to blow off.

13.0% - Clear, deep purple - a bit hazy closer to the rim / clean, med pure intensity - a great mix of black and red berry fruit, white pepper, violet, wet graphite, very mineral, menthol, lots of depth / dry, med+ acidity, med body, med coarse tannin, med intensity and length, but quite austere at first ... Blackberry, black olive, dark chocolate - needs to breath as the nose is way more exhuberant than the palate.. Even better on day 2, sour cherry, smoky, with a great mineral and saline finish. This is a solid 88+ for now

Lovely nose, drinking very well now. white pepper, pencil shavings, anise seed, light and approachable red fruit. Great value. Finish is light and easy though lacking some character. Perhaps another year or two max to bring out some more developed notes.

Toujours dans le style élégant et frais, cette bouteille a beaucoup plu encore une fois. Un noyau compact de poivre vert nous apparaît nouveau, semblant poindre à l'horizon. Pretty much what you would expect from a Crozes-Hermitage - pepper, iron, rasberry, firm tannins and black fruit. A touch of heat but on the finish, but this is a young wine. Needs another year or two to integrate, but should last quite a while. Not a great wine, but a decent wine that is indicative of the region.

Peppery with purple fruits and good acidity; ripe, but not sweet; tannins are present and slightly grippy, but not of monumental stature by any stretch of the imagination. 13% alc. not noticeable. Drink in the near term. Pretty good QPR at about $20. Gut impression score: high 80's.
