Very volnay. 92-93. PNP out of 375. 92 for me, but 93 for others? Nose: 93+ Warm berries and ripe earthy notes with medium concentration. Palate: 92+. Juicy black raspberry, savory dark red cherry. I don't get overt cranberry here despite it being a 2008! Stoney overlay. Bramble/Sous Boise. Structure: Med+ acidity, but elegant and not a 2008 acid bomb. Medium+ finish. I typically don't enjoy Volnay or 2008s, but thought this one was rather quaffable. It seems this one has benefited from time in the format?

Ultimo lunch time tasting (Ultimo wine centre (but now vintage cellars)): perfumed red fruit tending to black fruit with time - quite rich in fact - and some toast notes. In the mouth there is slight spice and earth note and an almost coffeeness. This is accompanied by chalky tannin. Hmm.

Slight brick-ruby color; nutmeg, toast, dusty baking spice; forest berries, wild strawberry, good perfume, good depth, fine tannins, silky, medium + concentration, good balance; starting to come along.

France 2011 - Côte d'Or; 7/8/2011-7/13/2011 (Beaune): Tasted at the Domaine. Pretty nose of red berry fruit with floral and mineral notes. Tight flavours of cool dark pinot fruit with good acidity and firm tannins. Nose shows some elegance. I was hoping for more form this wine. Maybe it’s at a stubborn stage right now. Very good. 88+

Lovely spices and floral notes in the nose; I detected forest fire-- smokey notes in the aromatic nose accompanied by faint cherry and strawberry smells. The mouth is vibrant with tart spicy cherry, lots of supporting acidity giving nice intense cherry fruit flavors; fine tannins, this is really excellent.

At first a distinct blood/iron character to the nose, then deeper down lavender and raspberry soda pop. Well balanced and elegant.

Chapitre and Induction Dinner of the Chevaliers du Tastevin (Schuyler Meadows Club, Loudonville, NY): [Opened about 5:30pm. Not decanted. Served around 8:15pm.] Rich, tart black cherries in the nose and mouth. So delicious. Classic Volnay. Fully ready. Goes really well with the duck. Amy likes it a lot.

7/5/2016 - Yassine23 Likes this wine:
Clear medium garnet pronounced
Nose of game and cherries.
Good acidity that softens throughout. Wine becomes silky.
Hasn't evolved much in the 3 hours it has been opened but very nice none the less.
Paired with petit salé au lentilles, interesting combination.

Knightsbridge Annual Holiday Burgundy Tasting and Sale (Northbrook, IL): Tasting, brief note. Black and blue fruit throughout. Firm and hearty, a bit more than I typically expect from Volnay. I recall there was some hail damage, perhaps that's coming through.
