Jonathan’s/Nick’s 04 Bordeaux (Hawksmoor Guildhall, London): Dense ruby. Broader and meatier on the nose, less precise with some blackcurrant leaf alongside the fruit. Broader palate too, accentuated by being 2–3C° warmer too. Quite rich with less precise definition. A bit more Henry Moore than David; fun though. ****

Beautiful ruby. Young and vibrant looking. Lovely nose of light cassis, black cherry and lily. More peppery and spice notes emerge later. Totally ready and all in balance and integrated. Wonderful cedar and tobacco on the palate, balanced and uplifting acidity with generous rounded fruit. So we’ll made, mid-weight but in a good way making it so enjoyable but with so much going on. I was offered 3 wines blind at a party, with task to pick the best one out of three. The other two (as it was revealed later) were Biserno’s Il Pino 2014 and Villa Donoratico 2014. As compared to these two butchered babies, this was an easy pick, eh.
This Pavillon Rouge 2004 is quite balanced, harmonious, with licorice, pencil shavings, cedar box, all in all, a typical Margaux. Still lots of grainy tannin, which eventually awakens. Early, but already beautiful.

It took a bit to open with lovely Margaux berries, minerality and lead pencil. Cool fruited and svelte, a wine with verve and the Chateau Margaux signature. Waltzed and pirouetted around its comparatively lead-footed Giscours flight-mate.

Inspiring, thrilling and beguiling entry of Margaux berries in full bloom with faint notes of lead pencil, mineral and rock, in a classy, cool fruited attack, leading onto a super svelte, deft palate, and decent finish, with some residual grippy tannin. So light on its feet, this is a class act; medium-bodied with immaculate balance and elegance, it doesn’t have the power and concentration of a big vintage of Chateau Margaux, but this could easily pass for the Grand Vin in a lighter vintage. Simply magical for a second Wine.

This showed better last year. Just didn't quite have the same captivating nose and wasn't quite as developed on the palate. This almost seemed like it was a few years younger than the last bottle. They were purchased separately so that could be why. This wine still hinted at its potential though, and just seemed like it wasn't ready to go.

2015 Carnival Breeze Cruise Wines (Somewhere in the Caribbean): Simply beautiful. This wine is drinking at peak right now and I found this to be the best bottle yet. I can't believe how much better this is drinking now than a few years ago, when it was just "good". The nose was utterly captivating. I am happy to have saved a few bottles. Drinking well after a splash decant.

My first quality Margaux wine .... and pleasantly surprised. Upon uncorking the bottle a nice scent emerged. Very smooth in first taste, somewhat sharp in the finish. But as bottle breathed more, the flavours came out more and more.
Very nice, too bad only one bottle in my cellar .....

Clear and bright, deep garnet colour and presence of legs. The nose is clean and developing, showing medium+ intensity aromas of dark plums, blackberries, cassis, truffle, vanilla, cedar and walnuts. The wine is dry with a medium+ acidity, high fine grained tannins, medium alcohol, full body and pronounced intensity flavours of blackberries, dark plums, truffle, cedar and walnuts. Long finish.
It is an outstanding wine with a very good fruit concentration, a lingering finish, a nice complexity provided by oak ageing and tertiary maturity notes and a very good structure. Can drink now, but it has potential to develop more complexity over the next 5-8 years.

Not the best Pavillon I have ever had, but this is the second 2004 Bordeaux I have had recently and neither had much fruit flavor, so it could be that they are just closed down right now. This one lacked fruit flavor and never really gave off that "Pavillon" nose that I have become accustomed to. Will try again in a few years.

WOTN apart from a Sauternes which was playing a different match. Fresh on the nose with rich black fruits. pencil notes, a hint of leathery tan and a small amount of vegetal in the background which blew away in the glass. Good length, beautifully resolved with solid but not overpowering backbone provided by present but not dominant oak.

Conditioning : label hidden, 30 min decanted. Nose, mouth and length, very good, bordeaux left bank so obvious, but definitely a feminine style, for a perfect balance. This IS the balance and the experience of a country, a region, and one of the best domaine in the world. There must be all of that to make this produce. Classic claret in an average year. My guest just drunk it, not to much reports; but the first decanter finished before all others : yes there's some better than this second wine but Bordeaux is the Alexandrie light house for everybody: a reference.

This wine really reminds me of Cos d' Estournel. The nose has a lot of leather and cedar, with a rich tobacco, floral, and blackcurrant overtone. The taste is similar to the nose with slick, refined tannins. The finish lasts for about 30 seconds and is velvety smooth. This wine is way better than I thought it would be.

Deer garnet. Exquisite intense nose, leather, red fruit and sweet spice. In the mouth the tannins are still astringent, but the wine is still young, so presumably they will mellow down. Lots of spices, graphite and vegetality. Very beautiful wine with persistent aftertaste, oak is perceptible.

Tasted blind alongside another 5 Bordeaux second labels, from the 2004 vintage (with one exception) it was easily identified as margaux and was declared W.O.T.N. with Alter Ego of Palmer as the only serious contender. The 2 wines were equivalent on the nose, but the Pavillon Rouge was superior on the palate. Dark ruby-purple. Sweet aromas of red berries, flowers, sweet spices, hints of leather and graphite. Mid-full bodied, round with fine-grained tanins, nice fruit and high acidity. Very long finish. Excellent. Now-2018.

Decanted for an hour then drank over the next 7 hours. Very feminine, gorgeous wine. Nose of perfume and powder, flowers, smoke. Lavish. Quite a high acidity, mostly balanced by fine but abundant tannin. Beautiful. Just entering its drinking window.
Day 2: One glass left. What a beautiful wine, aromatics abated, what's left is an ethereal beverage. So pure and light, sumptuous.

Popped and poured. Absolutely gorgeous nose of smoke, creamy vanilla and dark blueberry fruit. Great concentration, although this is more elegant than powerful. Drying tannins are present but by no means aggressive. Interesting in that its nose suggests more body and stuffing than the palate exhibits, but there is some structure apparent on the back end. Very pretty blueberry cabernet fruit throughout. Fantastic.

Chateau Margaux dinner (Au Jardin Les Amis, Singapore Botanic Gardens): This was better on the night than the last bottle I tried some months back. Red core with a clear rim. Nice, clear nose of sweet berries along with some undergrowthm, a touch of meat, a little dry wood, a touch of fragrant flowers and very 2004 minerality with a touch of green stems. The palate showed touches of earth and cassis and just the slightest bit of greeness and more minerals wrapped up in rather firmish tannins along with bright acidity. This had good body for a 2004 and rather decent length on the finish, but nothing to get excited about.

(13% vol) No formal notes but this was the follow-up wine to a '94 Latour. Rather feminine (and to my liking) , and much more accessible and "fruit-driven" on the palate (as in a Californian manner) than I expected. I also didn't decant the wine, yet the others who tasted it did enjoy it (as myself). I would definitely by it again, but I believe that this wine represents a "newer" and more "accessible" method of making Bordeaux wines; however, I also believe that this wine would still improve with some "moderate" cellaring.

Perfumed nose, very floral, blended with cedar. Sort of like really good potpouri (if there is such a thing). Fruit is low but emerging. Subtle hints of blackcurrant jam and dark fruit. Tannins are integrated and fine-grained. Light and elegant on the palate. 13% alcohol is perfect for Bordeaux. What it should be. Despite lightness it has structure and body - it's just not overdone. I cooled it a touch and decanted. We shall see where it goes over a few hours. Have some of the '05 but will likely buy a case of this to time when to drink '05. Could go for more time but drinking great now,

APFW tasting. Stylishly built second wine, but almost too "built" with lots and lots of toasty oak. Good structure, with well-shaped tannins and good acid. Good focus, good darkish fruit as well, with clear, ripe cassis character. Enjoyable in a very modern, new world way, but not fantastic.

Lots of smoked meat, red and black fruitss and some oak on the nose. While there are some nice fruit and earth flavors there, the oak overpowers most everything else. Tasting this next to the 2003 was interesting. It seems to me that they had this great product in the 03, and were trying recreate that in the weaker 2004 vintage by adding the Petit Verdot and Cab Franc as well as leaving it on oak longer (I am not sure if they did, but it tasted like it). However, this comes nowhere near the elegance of the 2003. It comes off a bit harsh and very New World, which is surprising coming from Ch Margaux.

Great material and a nice finish. Felt the wine was less integrated that would expect after 11 years but enjoyed it nevertheless.

Opened, decanted back into the bottle left for 2 hours and drank over 3 hours. It is very good. Drank it alongside a 98 Lynch Bages and this wasn't as good. It was very smooth and full of cigar box and blackcurrants. Very enjoyable and very nice but the Lynch Bages was a couple of points ahead of it. 92 Points

Excellent. Now-2018.

No formal notes but this was the follow-up wine to a '94 Latour.
