Enjoyed a class from magnum at a private dinner in the Cal Club LA. The color was still solid and just minor bricking on the outer rim. Bouquet was delightful yet slightly muted. Palate core of black cherry. Finish was clean -smooth. Good length in great shape for a 58 y/o.

Lafite Rothschild vertical (Taberna del Alabardero, Washington D.C.): Slightly cloudy but good color, also a very sound cork. Fully mature complex nose displaying subtle sweet red fruit, strawberry, raspberry, sous bois, eucalyptus, mint leather, mushroom, cedar, and damp earth. There is a hint of VA that is not bothersome. Fully integrated palate, medium concentration, subtle red fruit, fluid perhaps slightly thin, warm and round, medium acidity and mineral, and a medium long subtle red fruit driven finish with leather and mushroom at the end. This has 94 point nose but 90 point palate. If you like really mature claret, this is not a bad wine to try.

Elegant, light on it's feet, served blind by PW, guessed by the chateau-rep. - quite impressive - not much stuffing here, but the balance is great. Mature, not fading #d'Angleterre

One taster / drinker's utterance upon having a glass. And probably the most descriptive one can be about 56 year old grape juice.
From an OWC case from a cellar that was never moved, until now. Still had the steel wires on it.
Nose was very old bookshelf, in a loving way. Palate was sensational. Light doesn't hit it - tons of depth but, in the Hugh Johnson phrase, finished like water. Wonder if anyone's ever made the Huge Johnson joke to him.
It was an experience to have - compelling, sensation, whatever - one of a kind moment.
If you have the means, I highly recommend it.

Amali BYO Dinner (Amali Restaurant - NY, NY): Tasted from two different bottles - bottle 1 was flawed with lots of musty cardboard on the nose and no fruit or much of anything on the palate - bottle 2 was still very much alive. The nose still had hints of dark cherry on the nose along with old leather. On the palate there is still a touch of mature dark red fruit, leather and earth with a bit of astrigency on the finish. Probably past its prime drinking window but still really interesting and such a treat to try.

Another Amali BYO dinner (Amali in NYC): This was a touch of a flyer as it always is with old wine. Brought two bottles. One was definitely flawed. Funny because it only showed at the end, but the aftertaste was awful. The second was actually quite nice. Almost a touch jammy (as far as old world Bordeaux can be jammy). Nice fruit. Hint of sweet. Pretty tasty. And really right in the right spot I think to drink. So basically a wine that you buy for your kids to drink.

Half bottle. Bought on auction. Seemed as if it stood up well to time, but came from a not so great vintage. Some light red fruit, relatively dense for its age, old barnyard bdx musty nose. Gobs of sediment. I'm impressed for what I've read about the vintage, and it's a joy to have a wine from this chateau, but I've had much better elderly bdx from lesser houses in better vintages, like the 1966 brane cantenac. Drink up.

Attempt to use Corivan machine which failed and pushed cork through into the bottle. Then poured entire bottle into decanter which then I allowed to air for 1:30-1:45 hours before consumption. This wine at first has instant notes of minerals and graphite, very heavy tannins with a light finish of mixed fruit. It enhanced with my meal.

This wine came from a lot with questionable provenance and storage condition. The ullage was just beyond low shoulder. The wine was still very dark and not showing much warmer color note except on the edge. More subdued bouquet and a quite bit tarry and rubbery in the nose. On the palate this wine showed a hint of cork but not enough to reject. It was an enjoyable wine with a great deal to like but also some flaws. Lafite picked after the rain that came on October 8. It was not considered one of the lucky ones that made better wine in this difficult vintage. This wine was not diluted in any way. Interesting and pleasure giving to say the least. Dark fruit with a bit of burnt and tar and perhaps a hint of cork. I am not calling this wine flawed as I enjoyed it a great deal.

Respectable for the vintage, this bottle was at least worth drinking. Bell pepper on the nose. A thin palate but with noticeable red fruit and white pepper. Improves with a little air time, but then fades rapidly. No decant.

Nice bottle, opened 30 minutes prior. At first a little dusty. Beautiful nose. Palate at first weak, but developed with time, though large concentration of alcohol didn't help it develop. To be drunk in the next 10 years I reckon.

Wine with Friends (Chevalier Fine Wines - Chicago IL): Popped and poured. This was old and tired on the nose to start, with more redeeming savory mushroom character on the palate, but nothing to seek out at this stage in its life.

Lots of pandan leaves and floral scents. Tea and sharp black cherry notes with little touches of tobacco and oak. Past it's glory days and faded away like a dying old man , slowly but softly drifting to a deep slumber.

Birthday dinner for Alex, William and Gina 2014 (Cove99, Peck Seah Street, Singapore): This really belied its bad reputation, being from a rain-soaked vintage and all - I thought it was quite beautiful on the night. The bottle looked in pretty good shape. Popped and poured, the wine still retained a dark brownish colour with a bricking rim in the glass. It had an intriguing nose, with sweet maraschino cherries and some brown sugar notes garlanded with rose petals, orchids, maybe a touch of jasmine - a really floral, perfumed bouquet, with just the tiniest hint of funky earth and a little lift of cinamon spice running behind. A great nose. The palate still had a beautiful, feminine Lafite feel to it. Again though, there were those unusual red fruited notes, with fresh cherries and raspberries, and then more rose petals, all laced with silky tannins and fresh acidity. The midpalate had a distinct coconut water and pandan leaf tawng to it, flavours which were especially clear just before the fresh, gentle finish set in with the littlest pinpricks of mineral and spice amidst the panda leaf and red fruit accents. Clearly past its prime, bit I found this very enjoyable, if just a little puzzling with its unusual flavour profile. It started sliding after an hour or so, but remained a really enjoyable wine all the way up to that point.

I was really worried opening This one for my friends 50th. However, the decant and air proved that this wine had life left! Still some fruit but great minerality and a long finish. Way past it's prime but very drinkable. Wish I had another bottle to taste!!

Drank it with friends last night for New Years. His father bought the bottle at first offering and has stored it perfectly since. Cork came out intact with no difficulty. Color was elegant. Nose was beautiful. Wine was delicious. Lots of fruit, earth, leather. Had nice tannin backbone. Finish was special. After reading other reviews was apprehensive. Completely blown away by this wine. Perhaps due to being bought and owned and stored perfectly since its birth. Will remember this bottle forever. Great night. Great friends and food and wine. Nothing better than that.

Alcohol :: NA Ok, a 1964 Lafite and I wasn't expect too much on this as from what I read, Lafite didn't do well as she caught into the rain at the last week of harvest, but still, this is a treat to drink such an old one. Milky dark brownish core with light rim. Oh no, have this gone thru head damage or just oxidized? Strong soy sauce and stew fruits nose that completely dominated the nose. Palate wise, still alive but nothing much to offer. Quite creamy though, cedar, leather and tobacco intermixed with little blackberry fruits. Silky smooth with short finish.

Slightly opaque, garnet color, with a lot of rim variation and almost no sediment. No flaws. Low fruit intensity and medium earth intensity. Organic nose with some odors of purple flowers and roses, plums, blackberry, raspberry, leather, herbs, and spices. Dry. Low acid, tannin, and alcohol content. Medium finish. We found it fairly simple to slightly complex in simplicity and an amazing wine.

Had the opportunity to open this bottle at a friends house. When first tasted, this Medoc seemed old, tired and unflattering. We decanted the wine, and as time passed, the wine improved steadily in the glass becoming "very" drinkable and enjoyable. I must admit I loved the brownish color of this oldie although I missed the Lafite's fabulous bouquet....
