Really pretty and lifted. Good freshness here. This will go for years. Next to the franc pied this is a little narrower and not as deep, but it dances.

Overwhelmingly funky nose upon opening. As it opened, notes of primarily raspberry with some blue fruit emerged as the funk subsided. Not as much green as I was expecting. Tannin present but integrated nicely. Drinking wonderfully right now.

In a great place, enjoyed over several days with no tiring. Fresh - dare I say crunchy? - fruit with moderate depth and some complexity. Palate-cleansing acidity, nary a sign of woodiness or 'green.' Really a fine package; these wines are beginning to compete, in my mind, with Burgundies as my favorites. How is Bordeaux thought to be better? Thank you RMP.

If I had reservations about this wine a year ago, I have none whatsoever tonight. The color of a proper claret, this particular bottle showed well and married perfectly with the meal. The nose is bright with raspberry, sandalwood, smoke and something herbal like soft, young rosemary. Every element of the nose is chiseled across the palate like a Rodin. On the palate the wine is balanced with good depth. The finish is not as long as perhaps I might like, but how ever wants to say goodbye to an old friend? Some sediment. 13% alc. With mushroom risotto under bacon and blue cheese - an incredibly good pairing. Recommended.

Quite interesting and complex nose of dark fruit, pepper, Cab Franc greeness, and spices. Medium+ tannins with more dark fruit, black berries, tart plum, and new leather on the palate. Good acidity and nice finish. Really nice wine, drinking perfectly right now -- not too young, not too old.

Similar to a bottle last year. Deep, dark blue and red fruits with some dark earth, tobacco and graphite. Some herbs and flowers on the top and a sense of limestone underneath. Beautifully proportioned. A fantastic bottle.

Still a deep, dark wine. Notes of dark earth and graphite surround the dark cherry and plum notes with maybe even a bit of black currant. This isn't to say that this is a fruity wine, but it is well fruited enough to support all of the other herb and soil tones. The fine tannins are persistent and have a calcaire quality to them. I've said this before, I am really seeing the Baudry's vision for this site and why Matthieu was so excited about it back in the early 2000s. Really coming into its own and a worthy companion, though different, to the Coix-Boissée.

As much as I loved this wine two years ago, it does not excite tonight. While pretty inthe glass with it ruby rim and cranberry core, the nose and palate are a bit muted. Perhaps this is in dumb stage - I can only hope because several more await in the cellar. Notes of cranberry, cassis, sandalwood, but with some green herbs and a finish of graphite. Some sediment. 13% alc. With chicken cacciatore (which may be part of the problem). Recommended with Reservations.

This bottle seemed just a touch advanced, with a slightly oxidized note. A recent Grezaux from the same purchase was excellent and young, so my hope is an off bottle. Even so, it was still quite enjoyable and it is possible that the note I'm picking up is more a certain 2009 ripeness that manifests more in the Guillot than the Grezaux.

This is a ruby rimmed - cranberry core beauty! But for the bouquet, you’d almost be content to linger at how stunning it appears in the glass. But for its flavors, you’d almost succumb to the bouquet. This is a wine of sensual pleasure. Fresh, bracing cranberry and cassis on the nose with rich, earthy sandalwood and herbal, pungent rosemary rise from the glass and seduce the nose. With a sip the generous nose translates to a richer appreciation of each and every one of those distinct aspects of the wine. A wave of generous fruit is followed by a wave of graphite. A better showing than the bottle I had a couple of years ago. It's surprisingly open and friendly right now with plenty of ripe red and dark fruit tinged with earth, smoke, and greener herbal elements that add freshness and complexity. It's a touch tannic at first, but holds up well over two evenings and becomes more savoury and polished the second night. Fantastic wine with great balance and elegance.

A lovely, Burgundian style Chinon, better than the previous bottle. Open, beguiling aromatics of flowers, tobacco and red fruits. Medium body, medium acidity and mild tannins. Fresh and structured, but lightly extracted and accessible. A mix of cherry, pomegranate and tobacco flavors. I suspect this will age on balance for years without completely shutting down.

Dark purple color. Very interesting nose of green bell peppers (not from underripe grapes), olives, dark fruit (black currant, elderberries). On the palate, there is dark fruit again (black currant, blackberries), some flowers (elderflowers) and some earthy/chalky minerality as well as the green bell peppers and sweet olives again. Medium body with a medium+ acidity and medium tannins. Pretty long finish. This is a very interesting and beautiful Chinon from Bernard Baudry. And as often with (ripe) Cabernet Franc, it has a very interesting aromatic profile. This will probably also age nicely for quite a few more years. 91+

Decanted for 3+ hours. Vivid, dark color with medium transparency. A very nice savoury nose of red cherry, red paprika, earth and herbs. On the palate medium to full bodied, succulent yet very dry. High acidity with refined, gripping tannins. The fruit is quite ripe, more so than with Les Grezeaux, yet this is still totally on the savoury side. The flavor profile is very similar to the nose with the obvious addition of refreshing minerality. Very balanced and enjoyable, with a good future ahead. I like the comment "why do people buy Bordeaux", since like Les Grezeaux this is a terrific, ridiculously underpriced wine, though a bit less charismatic. With proper breathing time this is very approachable, but obviously there is no hurry to drink.

Grand Sichuan (St. Marks Place Grand Sich, NY): All about purity and freshness; a core of bright dark fruited flavours tinged with green herbal notes, savoury earthiness and higher toned floral elements. There's good depth and fantastic balance, and it's very enjoyable though among Baudry's regular bottlings, I think I'm still rather partial to the Grezeaux and Croix Boissée.

I never had the opportunity to drink an aged Baudry wine, not to say that i have never ever drunk an aged chinon. This being said, I truly adored this wine right now with an hour or two of aeration in the glass. If it were a woman: Smart, elegant, polite, good-looking with class and well-mannered and probably from a good family. If I like this wine this much now, I wonder whether I will like it better with more bottle age, if there's still any left by then (I'll try to keep my hands of the croix boissée though). The more wine I drink, the more I find 'restrained' to be the most difficult style to master for a winemaker. Baudry is doing a great job.

highly perfumed lovely nose of floral-lifted red fruit (somewhere between redcurrant and red plum and red cherry), a lifted non-vegetal fresh veegtation note, sweet yet savoury, touch of cedar, totally inviting; poised weight - feels light (medium bodied), great balance, firm tannins of moderate intensity that grip a little in the finish, and so lifted, freshens a little in the finish and the floral aspects just lingers. Agree with Kissack's elegant and seductive

The nose on this is gorgeous--like a spring meadow. Earth, grass, flowers, etc. Unfortunately, the finish mars the wine a bit with an astringent grapefruit pith flavor. That attack is lovely with minerality and silky dark fruits. The middle is a little hollow. Med/high acidity, cranberry like flavors. It improves with aeration, but the finish didn't come around. Tannins were fairly accessible.

Had some dusty red fruit, dark floral notes and distinct cabernet franc pepper notes. The tannins are pretty gritty at this point and will need some time for them to smooth out on the finish. This has nice raw material, but needs time.

2009 Loire Valley Cab Francs (Vin Vino Wine, Palo Alto, CA): Violets, vanilla and ripe berry fruit on the nose. Medium to full bodied with medium acidity. Nice blue and red berry fruit, floral notes and a touch of green. A step up in weight and fruit intensity but I prefer the freshness and purity of Les Grézeaux.

This had a very cool fruit profile with green pepper, tart cranberry...and with time, tobacco. This wasn't as lush as the 2009 Les Grezeaux I drank alongside it but had more minerality and less polish. I liked its rawness and there's no doubt this is a baby. Summer noted the persistent tannins, so take your time drinking it.

Deep robe typical for these '09s. Laid back graphite and peppers. Leaner, more focused, higher acidity and much more mineral and backward than the rest of the Baudry stable this vintage. This is not to say that it has less, just not meant for early enjoyment.

This is one of those wines that just grabs your attention. Limestone chalky, bright fruit, fresh acidity. Terrific stuff. If youever need to demonstrate chalky minerality to someone, give them this wine. Second bottle about 18 months later and it is even better. Worth twice the price.

Quite ripe red cherry and raspberry nose, almost jammy in terms of sweetness (although not consistency), with strong soil and spice aromas, but everything is a bit reserved. Good balance of fruit and acid on the palate, with smooth, refined tannins. But I was a bit underwhelmed, as this had neither the intensity nor the structure of Grezeaux, which to me was more impressive in pretty much all facets. Why is this cuvee more expensive? Did drink quite nicely with BBQ.

Sourced from clay/limestone argilo-calcaire plot midway up slope above cellar. 1 year in 5-10 year old oak barrels. 10-15 year old vines. Dark strawberry, cream, violets, sousbois and clove. this is more of a vin de garde. Needs at least another 2 years and could go another 10-15. Fine grained tannins. Great structure.

highly perfumed lovely nose of floral-lifted red fruit (somewhere between redcurrant and red plum and red cherry), a lifted non-vegetal fresh veegtation note, sweet yet savoury, touch of cedar, totally inviting; poised weight - feels light (medium bodied), great balance, firm tannins of moderate intensity that grip a little in the finish, and so lifted, freshens a little in the finish and the floral aspects just lingers. Agree with Kissack's elegant and seductive

Just great old world Cab Franc...subtle berry tinged seawater and cassis. Very long finish....could age 5 - 10....getting better over the next 5.

Summer noted the persistent tannins, so take your time drinking it.

excellent, a bit more restraint than the ordinary chinon bottling, but classier. Like this.

Has great raw materials but is a bit tight and closed tonight. Impressive texture and concentration for a Chinon. Good to taste it young. Should make old bones.
