Decanted two (2) hours. Paired beautifully with grilled ribeye streak. Similar to prior experience, displays highly expressive nose of lavender, blackberry, black currant, liquorice, vanilla and smoke. On the palate, ripe dark fruit flavors provide an extravagantly plush presence on the palate that gives way to an long evenly distributed mouthcoating finish. Should hold up well through the decade but this is squarely in its drinking window and wonderful right now!

First glass with Coravin. the wine seemed clumsy, brewed dark fruit and heavy. few weeks later, I uncorked the bottle and enjoyed a very different wine. fragrant nose, plenty of blackcurrent and spices. the palate is medium bosy+, smooth with ripe tannins in the background, quite fresh and long. very enjoyable although not very complex. still some times left in the tank

This wine has much to offer....but not now. I gave it a 3+ hour decant in the duck. I struggled to identify the fruits, despite feeling their presence. The wine is fresh, but too young. I think this could be something special, but I just don't know when. Try again in 2 years

Dark cherries, plum and sweet blackberries in the nose. On the palate licorice, dark chocolate, tar and some black olives. Full bodied - feels very youth- and powerful. Alcohol is high, feels a little too hot. Tannins are already nicely integrated. Complex structure and a nice depth. The finish is medium long and very juicy. This is in a great spot right now but another 4-5 years will make this even more interesting. About 36,000 bottles of the 2009 vintage were produced.

Complex nose with liquorice, chocolate and cherry - but also quite fiery. Very concentrated, this is how far you can push tempranillo. Mature, but still tannins and acidity giving structure. Very good, but maybe slightly too much heat on the palate. Long taste, wonderful mouthfeel.

Notes taken after 1 hour in the decanter. Still very youthful, but starting to express itself, clearly needs a bit more time to show it's best, but it's quite nice today. Nice fruit concentration, but still fairly classic in style. I'm sure this will be fantastic in 5+ years.

A nose that will entice and excite. Lots of fruit, cherry especially. The palate is complex, I tried hard to discern all that was going on. Cherry is prominent, as is blackberry and, dare I say, strawberry. A long beautiful finish that lingers and lingers. This stuff is great.

Regular dinner group (By EM @ Bottles): In the bouquet chocolate, dark berries, some red berries as well, sweet spices, leather and animals. Same on the palate. Beautiful and juicy dark berries. Very good balance between acidity and sweetness. Round and friendly tannin and a good length. Excellent wine.

Drank it beside waterford's the jem 2007. Very impressive nose after dark berries, dark cherries and milkchocolate. Even the nose is very concentrated. In the palate some vanila, but even with two hours of decanting still unround, very massive body wood is Not integrated yet. Long finish but a little bit One dimensional. I think it need at least 3-4 more years or 4-5 hours of decanting.92-93 at this stage, potential for 95 if you like powerful, concentrated reds. For me the jem was more elegant than the ribera del duero.

Three years have been beneficial. Wonderful complex nose of dark fruit, earthiness. The wine exhibits notes of casise, anise, sandlewood, spice, tobacco. The fruits are a mix of dark and a nice hint of blueberry. The first sip demands a second just to deconstruct and diagnose. Nicely balanced tannins and acidity. Moderately long finish with no bitterness. Paired with smoked turkey - nice.

Clear, deep ruby in color, medium (+) intensity exhibiting youthful aromas of blackberry, black currant, lavender, liquorice, vanilla and charred wood. Dry with medium levels of acidity and alcohol; intensely expressive flavors of aforementioned fruit are presented atop a dusty earthen foundation. Elegant, full bodied and well defined with soft velvet tannins. An evenly distributed mouthcoating finish is provided. Delicious now but have no doubt this will drink well for at least a decade or longer.

Dark Color. Clear smell of blackberries, wood, and a certain sweetness. The wine is lovely to drink and has a perfect balance. Taste of blackcurrant, cigar, vanilla (aftertaste), raspberries, liquorice. Long and medium aftertaste with incredible balance! For me this is perfect to drink now.

Lunch with Chris and Joey; Non-Blind (Bin 75): Inky and dark, youthful still showing the oak but it is integrating well, like the fresh acid finish even though it is a structured wine; very nice but probably better in 5+ years.

A year ago this wine was completely closed, giving no joy at all. Now still very tannic, but more balanced and becoming nicely integrated. On the nose showing dark red fruit, tastes somewhat unconventionally of sweetish spices and licorice. Alcohol a bit to high for my taste, although at 15 % I had feared it would be worse. Altogether a nice experience and worth the price. Should definitely improve over the next 3 to 5 years.

No heat on the nose from the 15% alcohol. Lots of oak though and while the wine if full or rich, red, savory fruit, the total does not make for a pleasant drinking experience at the moment. If you love big wine, like I did 15 years ago, then this might be your thing. Not to my tastes for the moment though and my bottles will be be left in the cellar for 10 years at least.

Absolutely stunning, the 2009 Flor de Pingus is a magnificent effort. Ater about an hour or two the wine opens up and provides brilliant red fruit, kirsch, raspberry, thyme, sage and lavender. The palate is super integrated and its dense complexity offers a lot of promise for the future. The tannins are there, as is the acidity and the length on the finish just goes on and on. This effort will continue to evolve for a good ten years - or more and last for two to three decades. In terms of complexity combined with a brilliant promise for the future, this is one of the top five wines I have ever tasted. It is a total stunner. For sure.
Decanted for about 30 minutes. Ruby/purple in color. The nose is very deep with cherries, slight dill notes and dust. On the palate, this is big. Seems to have depth but tight. OTOH, lots of cherry fruit and drinking deliciously. Nice body. Good acidity. Lovely wine.

I normally do note rate wines with points ala Parker, but Ill make an exception for this one.
Dark red color, opaque, no rim, long legs. Nose of dark berries (blackberries, blue plums and sweet morello). Palate shows more blackberries and spices - in particular vanilla. Quite warm mouthfeel, but again the toasted oak dominates. Less barrel signature would add complexty. I guess this wine can age for decades, but is it worth the price? To my palate, its a no.
After 24 hours in an open decanter the worst of the oak flavors has receded giving room for some more complex flavors of sweet licorice, graphite and mint. It does make the wine better, but does`t really really excite me - I still find it plump and lacking elegance.

Drank at Ned Towle tasting and was the surprise wine of the night. Very savory nose, with some mint and tar. On the palate, lots of forest floor, woodsiness, dark fruits and tertiary flavors. I would never have guessed this wine to be so young as it shows many mature wine qualities--the wine looks very young but tastes mature. Certainly some tannins there, but they're never in your face. A very enjoyable wine.

Rioja vs. Ribera Del Deuro (Beebe House): This wine was decanted 1 hour prior to serving. Very bright, modern fruit profile on the nose & palate. This changed (for the better) with every sip. After drinking some earthier Rioja's and Riberas the nose was almost cotton candy - big in your face - with black cherry, caramel. Bright fruit - black cherry, smoke, blackberry on the palate. While the fruit was big it was not over the top and the alchohol level does not upset the balance given good acidic backbone. Medium to full body and nice long finish. 92+ today. This needs a lot of time IMO. I would love to try this in 5-10 years but not my style today.

This is a special bottle of wine. Ordered at Bazaar at the SLS Miami Beach. Pop and pour, but one of the best, youngest p&p's I've ever had. It was ready to go immediately and fully present. Aromas of crushed stone, a little wood, roses, spice and a mesmerizing host of other scents. It was dark and 'thin' purple. In the pie hole the wine was massive but elegant. Mature? tannins well integrated with black and red fruit and great supporting acidity. Multiple, intellectual layers of flavor. It sort of hung out in there and became a friend. Not a juvenile wine by any means. It was all there and complimented Jose Andres tapas fantastically. Simply wow. Great to have a cool wine experience when I wasn't particularly expecting one.

This wine was truly a very nice acquaintance and somewhat of a surprise. At first sniff it is massive and dark, but after swirling a few seconds beautiful tones of flowers, mint and subtle vanilla appears in the glass. The palate reveals mature Tempranillo fruit but also a very nice acidity combined with sandy yet very elegant tannins. As the evening turns into an early summer night in Stockholm, the Pingus has provided a journey through wine evolvement with fruit, oak and tannins playing the accordion. This is a masterpiece-to-be. In terms of complexity one of the more intriguing wines I have ever had the pleasure to taste. I can't help but wonder what the first wine, the "real" Pingus is like? (Compared to the wines from Bodegas Aalto, the Flor des Pingus offers a more open and perhaps also elegant approach. Still the Flor des Pingus is a wine for more rustic dishes or perhaps for the cheese after dinner.)

A fabulous example of Ribera del Duero, this little sister to Pingus still needs massive amounts of time before being able to strut at her finest. No heat whatsoever at 15 % but with loads of tannin and velvety layers of oak-soaked Tempranillo all in great balance make this a must have wine. It was nice to be able to enjoy this with a spicy Maroccan lamb stew as the Danes took a surprise win over Holland in the European's. (Pingus' wine maker is Danish ex-pat Peter Sisseck). Worth every cent of the price of admission!

Decanted an hour before drinking. Dark ruby with a hint of youthful purple color. Wonderful nose of dark berries, spice. The nose provides a hint of fruit forward. The palate focuses on cassis, blackberry with additional layers of tobacco, light smoke, earthiness. Excellent tannic structure - not overbearing at all. Nice finish with no bitterness. For such a young wine, there is a lot going on. My first experience with this wine, and it does not disappoint.

Had this at Cowboy Ciao in Scottsdale, AZ. Decanted for about 30 mins. Dark ruby in color, almost opaque. On the nose, red fruit and spice. On the palate, fruits in the red end of the spectrum, cassis, an a hint of bell pepper. The amazing thing was how well structured and well balanced it was...not flabby or too big. Long, long finish. And although this is a baby now-and clearly has many, many years ahead of it-it wasn't too tannic. Just an amazing wine-makes you wonder how good the regular Pingus is...seems impossible that it could be much better than this.

Had to pop this baby to get a reference!! 3 hour decant. Black/purple rim. Dense dark berries, leather, spice and oak/cigarbox on the nose. Fullbodied and so SMOOOTH on the palate with the same flavor profile but a little less complex - but what really makes this wines special to me is the incredible balance of this young wine - no sharp edges whatsoever!! Surprisingly well-integreted tannins with a spicy/fruity finish (not dry as you experience in over-oaked wines). Long journey ahead! 93++

No formal notes.. just another try to this wine after the previous bottle. This time it was more restained, not as exhuberant but overall giving a lot on nose, just needed more air. On palate though, this one was more tannic, a bit more astringent but with the same balance, structure, acidity and finish. This wine is certainly a top hit in, what it seems so far, a great, suberb Ribera vintage. Again, drink now or hold as long as you can.

Popped and poured after the 3 Pagos Viejos. Very dark color and boy... instant wow factor on nose. Fruit, fruit, fruit and tons of fruit, blackberries, cassis, smoke aromas, exuberant. On palate again a lot of black and red fruit, some green flavour and black pepper. Barely hard edges, smooth, balanced, medium plus acidity and full bodied with a very long finish. The showing of this wine was incredible, very impressive. To drink or hold.
