Dark berry, coffee grounds, black pepper. Pretty classic Donati. My one knock on this wine & some of the other Donati 2006 & 2007 vintages is that it is way too chunky! Chunks around the cork. Chunks in the glass, and chunks in the bottom of the bottle. We're going to make a trip to the store for some filters before I open another bottle. If the wine was at least filtered a little, I would have rated it several points higher.

Came back to the label after a few years' hiatus & remembered what we liked so much about the fruit and the winemaking. Deep purple, nice balance of aromas between cassis, blackberry compote and a touch of smoke, all of which carry to palate with plum, dark chocolate and black cherry notes. Rich mouthfeel, consistent front-to-back flavor profile and a medium-long finish. A bit more tannic structure would elevate the score 2-4 points, but who cares. The flavors and experience of the Piscenes' fruit is just delightful. Plus, did we say QPR? On a great special at the winery, should have grabbed a couple of cases.

Originally bought and found nearly a half inch of jick stuck to the cork. Returned to trade in and found that 2 of the other 3 bottles at the store had the same issue. The last bottle was maybe a half centimeter of jick, and since I really wanted to try this I took that bottle. Once I opened it had a very strong (not bad) but strong deep aroma. I wasn't really in the mood for wine that night and only drank half the glass and started to think I wasn't feeling great. I think the jick just got in my head. As I drank the rest of the bottle over 4 days it just kept getting better and better as I realized I wasn't getting sick off it. I wish I could have given this a fair shot from the beginning.

We've been drinking this at a rate of about a bottle a month for the last year or so because it we think it's a nice inexpensive midweek quaffer. Over that time the wine has definitely smoothed out and the flavors have become broader and richer, with less need for decanting. My guess is that its as good right now as it's ever going to get.

Tastes like it's mostly merlot. Plenty of dark berry fruit mixes with toasty oak. Very smooth. Could use a little more acid. Not complex, but it tastes good.

This is a favorite of friends, so we were eager to try it. We were not disappointed. This had a lovely color, nice mouth feel and very nice finish.

Pretty good. Very dark purple, with lots of grape solids. Decant if possible. Might buy again.
