Again a pristine bottle, the 2009 needed some years to get rid of their baby fat, but since 4-5 years, they are really good. Not any issue with premox or other problems: clear color, ripe citrus with iodine, oyster shells and high salinity. Dense with very good length. A bunch of other Chablis producers would like their Grand Crus on this level.

This really comes to life with time in the glass, and I will probably decant it next time. Once it loosens up and loses its initial chill, it displays a great complexity and shows an exquisite precision and balance. It has the qualities of a Grand Cru Chablis. The nose is classic with oyster shell, seashore, and citrus fruit. The palate has developed in the last year, and now shows distinct honeysuckle notes with hints of orange and a sharp citrus bite. With the right bottle, this should be good for at least another decade at this level, and was made just after the dreaded premox era.

Light golden color. Clearly from a riper vintage, but the flavor is correct for the age and vintage. Definitely not premoxed. Classic Chablis flavors of stone and white flowers but with a heavier tone and too much richness. Very good drinking now but I would drink this soon. It is just a bit on the first side of the down hill slide.
Color is light straw. On the nose: Lemon, orange, honeysuckle, white flowers and lots of minerals. On the palate: Orange (predominant )lemon, grapefruit(hint), honeysuckle, almonds / touch of marzipan. This is a beautiful bottle of wine. It is refined, has good length and a nice weight for a Chablis. Plenty of life in this.
Light yellow color, fantastic nose of iodine and citrus. It is already clear that this is Chablis and nothing else. On the palate dense, even big ripe citrus (more orange than lemon) and the typical iodine salinity. Coming from a clearly ripe year, but having the structure and tension kept. Again a confirmation that Dauvissats 2009 are since about three years in a very good drinking spot.

Ripe but lean with good linearity and wonderful aromas. Clean with no signs of POX. Vibrant fruit with citrus up front, and some crisp apple like notes to follow all warped up with a nice mineral, brine like finish which just melds beautifully into the wine. There is a beautiful delicacy to this wine which keeps it quite elegant and lacy where many other producer's wines tend to get heavier. Served at a dinner party with a good crowd around the table so only got to enjoy it over a short period. I suspect it probably would have offered even more if given a chance to enjoy over several hours so muy score may be conservative.

Approaching its prime which based on this evidence, will linger on for a long time!
This wine does need decanting at the moment otherwise it is quite muted on the nose. A translucent green that is turning yellow. However, once it opens up, the nose is slightly oxidative with honey and nutty notes. Then other notes such as white flowers / floral and citrus notes emerge. Beautifully balanced body that has lost its puppy fat, with beautiful freshness and zing - lemon zest, minerals and wonderful tension. A honey and nutty finish just wants you to drink more. A truly delightful and well made wine. Went superbly well with carrot and orange soup.
Drink now to 9+ years.

This hasn't changed much since the last time I opened one three years ago. It needs a little air to open, and then when it does it shows some saline, tonic water, lime and very slight nutty/oxidative notes. My last of this vintage unfortunately. I'd love to follow it over a few more years.

Just starting to hit the start of its prime drinking window, this still needed time in the glass to come alive. Once it does it is a top notch Chablis, with a classic profile, but with an unexpected complexity. The nose is fresh with oyster shell, seashore, and subtle citrus notes. The palate is clean and exquisitely balanced, and likewise the finish with great salinity. It continued to develop in the glass throughout the night and bodes well for its longevity.

Showing really well but took 30 minutes or so to open up. Still showing stoniness and minerality along with the orchard fruit and hints of age. Still has years to go.

Candie's Big 4-0 (Spoon & Stable, Mpls, MN): Healthy light green pold color. Drank a glass over an hour. Very mineral driven nose and palate, oyster shells, lemon and stone on the nose with a sweet chantilly cream note; on the palate, lemon, white apple, lacquer, lean, oyster shell, waxy, light brine, with a strong acidic vein.

A back up for an overly mature 2008. This was light colour and pristine, the fruit was a little sweet and ripe but held together well and had a nice thread of acidity

Sadly, this showed as early premox. Subdued, no tension, and sort of a mid-palate creaminess. Drunk without complaint, but a shadow of previous bottles.

Medium yellow with retained green. Floral, citric, iodine aromas without a trace of oxidation or the honey/truffle scents I've experienced in other bottles. Wonderfully silky medium weight entry followed by brisk acidity and stone. Lemon peel, herbs, acidity, and stone make for a compelling mix in the mouth. I thought this was too opulent and fat when it was young. Bottles over the last few years have proven me wrong. It is rich but classic and quite beautiful now.

Wonderful ripe fruit, orange peel, citrus, salt, chalk, oyster and sea breeze. Another one in row of excellent 2009 Chablis of Dauvissat. It needed some years to get rid of its baby fat, but in an excellent shape since 2 years.

Christmas Wimps 2021 - It's a Wonderful Life (La Trompette): Lovely, a fragrant, almost ecclesiastical nose. Lovely mouthfeel - really coats the palate. I struggle to describe Chablis, somehow haven't built up the right vocabulary, but this was a lovely wine, not overly showy, but quietly powerful.

My first Dauvissat, and you can color me impressed. Distinguished more by its purity and length, I think, than by its complexity. But the purity and length are impressive. The note directly below provides a pretty accurate description. Shame that this bottling is now $100+.

Deep yellow. White flower, lemon, and sea spray. The barest hint of honeyed maturity. Rich, glycerine feel but not overripe whatsoever. In fact, thrilling tart orange peel and limestone. I couldn't help but compare this to the much looser, woody 2010 AC Chablis from Raveneau we had the other night. This was finer and just brimming with the essence of Chablis that were nowhere to be found in that wine. Outstanding stuff without a doubt, and all this despite the ripe reputation of the vintage. It is not urban legend--many Dauvissat wines from richer vintages somehow have the ability to pare down and wind up as more classic bottles with time.

Popped and poured. This is in excellent shape, fully mature but not showing any signs of decline. White peach, tropical fruits, minerals come through as the wine is marked by the warm 2009 growing season. But at the same time there is excellent acidity here which lends a bit of cut and backbone.

On the nose fresh citrus (lemon) and iodine notes, on the the palate again citrus, but more a mix of lemon, orange and grapefruit, stony, also soil (typical for La Forest), exactly the same impression as with the last one two months ago: wonderful ripe Chablis.

Signs of seepage, poured a deep golden... *deep breaths*
This was advanced but not terribly so, and thus is merely a bit disappointing and not a tearful sink pour.
Nose was immediately quite hidden, but eventually revealed the ripe notes one might expect from such a hot vintage. Honeyed melon, some rounded matchstick/flint. Body is creamier than I'd expect, almost cheesy.

Lovely, complex nose of citrus, minerals, butter, ripe fruit, and nutmeg. Nice acidity with lemon, more buttery notes, thyme, crushed rocks, and orange zest on the palate. Along finish. Quite ripe, but once you get past it, there’s a beautiful Chablis!

I found this a bit unpleasantly cheesy / matchsticky upon opening. My consistent experience with dauvissat has been that a lot of aeration is needed and helpful. This improved in the decanter but, consistent with prior '09s, never electrifies quite the way better vintages do. Drink these sooner rather than later.

Golden yellow. Open nose of ripe apples, flint and some citrus. Fresh, full-bodied, oily texture, slightly balsamic. Complex, from lemon-peel to honey. At the same time tight and slim. Long. Drink up in a year or two.

I can't say enough good things about Vincent Dauvissat. I am a huge fan of his, because of the refinement, the linear focus, paired with true Chablis terroir, of his wines, from Les Clos, Preusses to a great value La Forest. Raveneau clearly is richer, but in the end I prefer the linearity Dauvissat. Fevre is a substantially dryer Chablis, too dry for my taste. and yes: A matter of taste, but for me the Dauvissats are at the very top and rarely ever dissappoint.
This needed a lot of air and room temperature to fully express itself. Deep fried dough, cheese, chalk, orange-medicinal notes, buckthorn, still quite young

This needed to warm up and get some air for the fruit to emerge. Once it was closer to room temperature it showed lime, tonic, and some honeyed, nutty character. The warm vintage shows and I wasn’t wowed by the wine initially, but in the end it showed pretty well.

decanted & followed for 3 hours. medium gold, visually sound (!), a bit more exotic example aromatically; it's slightly lush but so typically 'Forest', truly delightful mineral, stones, citrus skin & good acidity for this vintage, long.
bought/own more "la forest" within Dauvissat portfolio; appreciate all, but this remains my favorite cru; will drink remaining 2 soon as extra enjoyable now. purchased on release, every '09 has been great at the table.

This was a pleasant surprise! Wine is golden yellow, very restrained as I opened it, almost muted. I double decanted it and had it 45 min later, and the aromas had fully blossomed, loads of ripe fruit, banana, lemon pie crust, pine needles, crushed shells, wet cement, and a pleasant hint of matchstick. Big and bold on the palate, not the restrained style of most Chablis, with a broad mid-palate and and beautiful vibrant energy on the finish. I guess this wine reflects the vintage and it's challenges, but it provides a rare, pleasant early drinking opportunity.

From 75cl, spongey cork wet and grey-coloured 1/3 from wine end, opened but not decanted 45 minutes, improved over following hour. Diluted citrus, a hint of iodine and saline; watery mid-palate; some acidic gain to the alarmingly short finish. Decent unexiting Chablis showing its age but with no obvious faults. If this came from the cooperative then it would all make sense, but it isn't at all what I hope for from Dauvissat (or at this price). Let's hope my 4 bottles of D.'s 2008 Forest aren't ALL premoxed, but this hope is not sufficent to make me want to buy white Burgundy again for cellaring. From now it'll just be the occasional single bottle for short-term consumption. 88P

Ripe apple throughout, perhaps not typically Chablis, but very "2009." Very dense and powerful. Clearly more mature than my last bottle from 2 years ago, these are best to enjoy over the next few years.

My last 09 with plenty of Chablis character and that Dauvissat magical mix of balance, depth, lift and elegance even in a less than stellar Chablis vintage. Light aromas of citrus and mineral. Very good bottle. As always, a riper year and style, not the best that La Forest can be, but still a very good wine. Great flavors with a touch of pineapple and not the depth of great years. Elegant, crisp acidity. Glad to have 9 more bottles.

A Few Ripe Vintage Burgundies (San Francisco): Dull deep yellow that lightened with air, as did the aromas. That said, some mature honey/truffle along with orange peel. One of those Dauvissats that took over an hour to get going. Definitely a broader, richer rendition of La Forest, but still excellent citrus, iodine, and good verve for the year. Nothing tired about it, but not destined to be a long ager.

A good but not great bottle. Clearly Chablis, white flowers, stony but not intensely so. As per my last note earlier this year, it is diluted compared to the usual La Forest profile. Doesn’t show ripe at all, just thinner than normal. It we still enjoyed it. Just time to drink the rest sooner than later.

Nose: It takes a slight bit of coaxing to wake up, but as it does, the nose reveals flint, pear, red apples, custard, mineral tones, and yellow florals. There is excellent depth with a more upfront and immediate quality to the nose.
Taste: The feel is Medium/full bodied with tart, medium+ acidity. The feel shows off the maturity of the wine as the edges are more round and elegant with flint, red apples, pear, custard, mineral tones, and yellow flowers.
Overall: This was drinking extremely well nearly right out of the gate. It shows off both some maturity as well as classic Chablis qualities all wrapped up into one lovely wine. This is drinking about as perfectly as it can, though it is in no danger of going downhill soon.

From 75cl, acceptable, if squidgy cork. Bright light colour, no premox, a relief after some expensive disappointments with Dauvissat's wines. Has held up better than I feared in my TN of 19.05.2017, but not improved. If you want another honest account, the imperturbable Xavier Auerbach nailed it on 23.04.2017. Drink this soft, pleasant but flabby Chardonnay up soon, well-chilled (sad to have to say this for a Dauvissat 1er Cru...) and please don't expect too much. 87-88P

A good bottle. Fine Chablis flavors of white flowers and lemon peel. Nice acidity as well. A bit more dilute than I remember from last bottles, so probably time to drink these. Not the density I find in typical La Forest years, but an enjoyable bottle nonetheless. Didn’t drink like a warm year, and I don’t find the same exotic flavors that I did several years ago.
Decanted and poured back into bottle. No oxidation. Consumed over 2 hours. Nose of bright citrus, which became muted with air. Light-medium body. Flavors of lemon curd, with moderate minerality. Moderate complexity, with a light, but long lingering finish. Gained complexity with air.

Deep yellow. A blast of honey and truffle right out of the bottle receded after about an hour of air, and then the aromatics became a bit fuzzy with yellow apple and rich broth. Full bodied for Chablis, enveloping feel, yellow orchard fruit rather than citrus, average acidity, strong soil component. Maturing, definitely not thrilling, and honestly could use more zip, but my initial concerns about oxidation were not borne out. Last tasted 2 years ago. My reactions to this over the years have been mixed, but I felt more excited about the bottle I drank in 2016.
Same bottle as Rocknroller's note. Had sat on this bottle for around 5 years and thought it was time to get after it. A tart, precise presentation. Good intensity and pucker. Has the structure to age further but should the fruit recede, not sure it would be as pleasurable as it is now. Paired with some crudo, but the wine was a bit too intense for that. Needed something else in the dish to push back. After sitting in the glass more salinity started to come through. A very nice wine.

The wine was open after a tasting and shared with a lot of people so I only get a short impression. It opens up a bit more after some time in the glass so better give it a decent amount of air before drinking. I missed a bit the cut, edge and electric acidity the 2008 showed. Guess that is a vintage thing.

Appearance: Bright and clear, the wine is of medium lemon colour, with watery rims and legs. Nose: Clean, with medium (+) intensity aromas of citrus fruit of lemon, floral notes of blossom, mineral notes of stony, saline and oyster-shell, green fruit of tart apple and pear, autolytic notes of yeast, maturity notes of honey. The wine is developing. Palate: Dry with high acidity, the wine has medium alcohol, medium body and medium (+) intensity flavors of citrus fruit of lemon, green fruit of tart apple, mineral notes of stony, dairy notes of cream, floral notes of blossom. The wine has a medium finish. Conclusion: Very good quality Chablis with an intense nose showing great complexity, particularly interesting on the minerality and the oyster shell characters, the wine has good acidity, a crisp and sharp structure with a good concentrated palate and a reasonable length on the finish. It is ready to drink now though can benefit from further ageing of another 3-5 years.

Another great bottle. Starts with exotic white flowers and riper fruit notes which show the riper vintage style but after time it firms up and the extracts and chalky core come to forefront. Drinks well now, but not a pushover at this point. Could still use a year or two to be pure pleasure.

lightly corked, unfortunately. Still, you can see the potential of this wine. Even though it's from a warm vintage, it has plenty of acidity and Chablis character. Delicious now but will certainly reward aging. If I had more I would wait another 3-4 years before trying another. The wine will have no problem going another 10+ years in proper storage. Excellent Chablis.

This was fatter than I expected. I thought it was slightly waxy and not as Chablis-like as I prefer. It did improve as it warmed and opened, but overall I was disappointed. I have a couple more and I don't know whether to hold or drink them?

Tried another bottle with consistent notes to last time. To be clear, this is not "aging fast" as others have said - it is just riper and atypical. Yes, it will drink earlier, but this isn't an oxidation problem. It is ripe, for sure, but it has good acid balance nonetheless, and more tropical flavors in addition to classic Chablis notes. I would drink this earlier in its time than other vintages. But tastes good.
Double Blind White Burg (Dauvissat Chablis) (Formentos): Double blind in an 09 Dauvissat horizontal. A bit reductive at first, but then the full nose blossoms to reveal appealing bright green apples and wintergreen mint. On the palate, just gorgeous and delicious. Rich apple made complex with spice, citrus and herb layering. Intense finish. Terrific. Preferred this to the 09 Clos in the flight.

Dauvissat Clos, Preuses and Forest at Lieu-dit Cru Annual(ish) Blind White Dinner (Formento's - Chicago IL): Served (almost) double blind to the group, single blind to me in Dauvissat 2009 flight. Cross-section of yellow and green apple with floral nuance. Ripe and powerful with excellent power for 1er Cru. Very long, precise and lingering finish. From 75cl, good if slightly squidgy cork. Smells like salt water, tastes of lemon and (surprise, surprise) tangerine orange with some salt and oyster shell for good measure. Light- to medium bodied, short finish. I fear that Xavier Auerbach and Isbjoern are right: this lacks the tension I expected from a Dauvissat 1er Cru, and although it is a very good wine, best to drink up sooner rather than later. 88P

Second bottle from a half case. On the nose this is pretty much a classical Chablis with its aromas of oyster shell, brine and lemon, and if you chill it well it is still fresh enough (just), but there is no denying that the flavours are tired and the finish tails off. If this bottle is representative, this is a further illustration that Dauvissat's La Forest does not age well in warmer vintages.

Quite an evolved bottle, not quite as much as the last bottle though. This has a nice saline note and a very ripe and almost tropical feel. The oak is slightly too prominent for my palate and it creates a bitter note on the finish. A good wine, but not one that gets me excited. Drink soon. - 88 points

2004 Burgundy Grand Cru Dinner (Holland Park): Atypically ripe and creamy, but this is nevertheless a solid Chablis 1er Cru that will age nicely with time. The nose smelt really young, with primary notes of green apple lined with a touch of spicy new oak and a bit of green herb. It was still noticeably Chablissienne though, with flinty mineral and little saline tones coming out with time. The chalky, stony Chablis minerality comes out quite beautifully on the palate, running through an otherwise creamy mouthful ripe, fleshy white fruit, with another dose of sweet oak at the finish. There was tons of power here, with the wine coming across as that just that bit obvious in its youth. Thankfully though, everything was still kept nicely controlled and focused by its lovely spine of minerality and some surpriginsly decent acidity for the vintage. A strong showing. I have seen comments suggesting that this wine is aging prematurely fast, but the particularly bottle could have easily gone on for another 10 years - and it probably needed the age too.

Ripe with tropical fruit, pineapple, lemon curd, marzipan, with a creaminess, almost fresh butter side. It's not all fat though, there is still a sense of minerality and oyster shell/ saline notes. This is round and fleshy by Chablis standards, but still with some tension and freshness considering its Rubenesque structure. This wine is not what I would reach for if I was wanting typicity, but in its own way, it is a very pretty, round, and giving wine with a bit too much flesh for me. That said, overall this is a nicely balanced and interesting wine, if not profound, and it is retaining freshness if not excitement. This could be a great gateway drug for lover of Cali chard wanting to bridge over to Chablis. Still outstanding, but just that, and much less exciting to me than this wine usually is in fresher vintages. 90pts

Medium yellow. Nose with citrus including zest and some citrus oil, a bit of yellow plums and some green apples, some smoke and chalk dust-type of minerality, hints of beeswax and white flowers as well as hints of mature notes. Quite dry, citrus including zest, green apples, fine concentration of fruit, high acidity, some chalky minerality, good weight for a Chablis with a bit of viscosity, long citrussy finish. Quite enjoyable now but still youngish, 90(+) p.
The ripe 2009 vintage is somewhat noticeable in that there are deep fruit notes and perhaps less dominance of mineral than in many other vintages. However, the acidity and freshness are definitely there, so there's absolutely nothing "too hot/ripe" to it!

A nice wine, which is a bit too young. It has this very distinctive creamy and chalky texture, a pale yellow color, aromas of honey, butter, lily, citrus fruits. On the nose it evolved a lot during the 30 mins spent in my glass. It is well balanced, has a lovely tension, a nice acidity and has this very Dauvissat minerale sigature. Would nevertheless most certainly benefit of a further 3/4 years cellaring.

Medium yellow. Airy, floral aromatics with some salinity and crisp citrus. Medium weight, nice glycerine texture. This has definitely lost the baby fat and now leans more toward the classic Chablis structure and interplay of minerality, soil, and lean, lemony fruit. Terrific length. A bottle last summer seemed a bit off and advanced; this one was just approaching prime drinkability and was exciting in its balance. This is one of those Dauvissat wines that seemed a little rich at first, but it has become much more sleek and focused over time.

The 2009 vintage gives this wine a richer, rounder and easier to approach side. Nice citrus notes, less mineral than expected, less acidity (not sure if its actual or apparent due to the extra fruit). Takes away though a bit of the focus and complexity. A pretty nice wine though. 91

Light to medium yellow. Distinctly mature Chablis aromas of black truffles and iodine. Dry, very silky, rich palate feel, honestly more like a Cote de Beaune Grand Cru than Chablis-this is a sense I often get from Raveneau wines but rarely Dauvissat. Some pear fruit, but the mid-palate is mostly creaminess and texture. On the finish, a touch of wood to go along with excellent acidity for the year and (finally) strong salinity. All in all, a funny bottle with sound color and structure but quite advanced aromatics. Mind you, I am not screaming "premature oxidation", but either this is rapidly entering maturity compared to a year ago or this bottle is an outlier.

Two friends sharing two bottles of wine: It clearly shows the ripe 09 fruit which was not the case with the last bottle. Medium expressive nose displaying dense yellow citrus fruits, also flowers, honey, mineral and saline. Excellent concentration, coiled and dense mineral driven palate, bright acidity and lovely long finish. Though ripe, the overall expression is very Dauvissat with coiled fruit, bright acidity and strong presence of mineral. Enjoyable already but can improve for ten more years losing a bit of fruit and gaining smokiness.

Classic Dauvissat Forest (much more classical in fact than one would expect in 2009), with an extra bit of weight because of the warm vintage, but very good tension and energy. At present the ripeness is balanced out beautifully by the freshness of the acidity and there is even a hint of austerity. It should be able to last another 5 years, but I am not sure whether it will take the direction of the soft-ish 2006 or (hopefully) that of the broad but firm 2005.

Nomad Bar (New York): Does have some signature mint along with lemon, some earthy spice and with time it shows some violets. Texture is excellent, shows its class right away and just keeps lifting in the glass. Mineral core and great length. Interest here across the complete wine.

For a fat, rich vintage, this bottle had some serious tension. Acidity was not enamel stripping but very pleasant. Like a gargle of pure seawater with excellent citrus and tidepool backing. Revisit in 5 years but has the energy to go MUCH further.
Paired well with a mandarin, avocado salad.

Served chilled, paired with mussels. Light pale gold. Nose of oyster shell, flint, white flowers, citrus, lots of granny apple. Initially voluptuous on the palate but with about an hour in the glass morphed to a more linear display of grapefruit, tart apple core, stern mineral spine, and white pear. Vibrant acidity and a long, tangy finish of citrus and schist. Lots of flavor in this one but also rooted in its sense of place.

This needed time to open and show it's structure and depth. Once there the tell tale Dauvissat Forest flavors and elegance showed up, though for me not quite to the heights of '07. Cellaring will help a lot here.

Watergrill: Earthy button mushroom nose with earthy loamy minerals; good balance, apples and peach pit on the mouth with the loamy aspect showing through. Par for the course with '09 as it is a bit round, slightly lower acidity, but pleasant. Good with Uni.

This bottle seemed a bit more developed than I expected, but still lots of balanced zippy fruit and minerality. More unctuousness and a nutty/roasted parmesan element but not in a bad way per se.

Lemon, spice, pepper and a wonderful pure mineral/limestone element to the nose that turns airy with swirling. I'm struck at first by the rich, tart mouth filling burst of flavor that assaults your palate, almost like a well structured lemon custard. There is some surprising acidity and very good structure for a 2009, with impressive length and flavor persistence on the finish. Probably the most complex $40 wine that I've ever had (this was a PC special).

Surprised to see that I had not tried this wine for 3 years. Light yellow green color. Interesting and not totally typical quality of pear and green apple, but with air, a rising sense of saltiness. Medium weight, nice mix of fruit and salinity, terrific minerality toward the end. Very classic and well structured-a happy surprise compared to what I have often found in 2009 Chablis.

I enjoyed this but I did not think this wine had the focus and cut that I enjoy with this cuvee. I will hold and see if this sheds its baby fat. Again enjoyable, but with most Dauvissat wines, they need time to develop in the cellar.

Drank the 09 La Forest and the 09 Preuses side by side. The La Forest showed laser like focus, beautiful minerality, and really stood out. The Preuses was also very good, but for me, not as compelling. Nice pair, and both were drinking very well for their youth.

In perfect condition as it should be. Pale gold with clean but reticent nose. Exquisit chablis! Paid $44 and I believe the '12 now sells for $65 plus. I stopped buying at after 2010.
Pale yellow, flint and crushed stone and seashell on the nose. Wonderful body and salinity, excellent complexity and depth. Dauvissat knows Chablis. This region produces my all time favorite expressions of the Chardonnay grape. Wonderful bottle.

Enjoyed two days after the 08, this was certainly riper, but remained focused. A rich expression from here, not out of character but at the riper end of typicality.

first one from this case. pale yellow-gold; citrus zest, honeycomb, sea spray; med/+ mouthfeel, a little bit oily; mixed citrus marmalade, like crushed Sweet-Tarts & seashells, mint, slightly fat (particularly relative to yesterday's '08 Vaillon), or maybe the ripeness conveys more powerfully than the evident minerality & acidity; very juicy & sweetly tangy. love these as food wines but worked surprisingly well w/ginger element in dinner.
jumbo head-on Sneed's Ferry white shrimp w/local young ginger, lime, confit tomato & coconut milk; Carolina Gold rice pilau
05/15/14 certainly this is still on the very early side of evolution, but equally as superb as previous bottle; showing an intense honeycomb & citron emulsion quality, long & delicious (92)
Started tight, smoke and crushed rock on the nose. Opened up gradually to reveal citrus fruits, lemon zest. Great density, extract and texture in the mouth. Liquid rocks, citrus things. Minerality means different things to different people but I can't imagine anyone would deny it in this wine. As good as this is now, I think it will be much better in 5+ years.

Rett og slett vanvittig bra vin! Eneste jeg finner å trekke for er en litt vel rund fruktkarakter, men dette var rett og slett nydelig. Drukket til ovnsbakt breiflabb med auberginekaviar og shitake.

My expectation was somewhat mixed as I was very happy with the 10 drank a few months back but the 09 Dauvissat Les Clos, although exceptional, is not up to the level of the 08. This is more open than the 09 Les Clos. Initially pretty tight but open up with air, displaying beautiful white fruits, lemon zest, flowers, honey, limestone, a hint of smoke and saline. Beautiful oily palate with bright acidity and long finish. Although young, quite enjoyable. IMO, Jeremy Holmes is spot on, ie delicious and showing as well as the 09 Les Clos.

A study in citrus with its aromas and flavours of lemons, tangerines, grapefruit and lime. It is pulpy in the mouth and has a hint of honeysuckle that so many 09’s possess. There’s also just a touch of heat from the alcohol, not bothersome but its there. I guess if just there alcoholic heat is bothersome to you then it could be bothersome.

Brought this to a tasting, as the Dauvissat Vaillons 2008 a month earlier showed clear signs of beginning pre-ox. La Forest 2009 did not. Although mute and quite closed in for now, it showed citrus fruits and good minerality. This will need further cellaring, at least 2-3 yrs, and, if you have the nerves for it, longer.

To me the nose remains quite fresh and classically chablis... lemon, minerals, some forest floor. Very elegant palate with a beautiful finish. Will definitely improve with some bottle aging.

I tasted both the 09 ‘Les Clos’ and 09 ‘Preusses’ from Dauvissat earlier in the year and was a little disappointed, both of them showed a little alcoholic heat on the finish and were disjointed. Based on how well this ‘Forest’ is showing today either I was in a grump at the time of tasting or the wines were indeed all arms and legs when first bottled. Anyhow this wine is utterly delicious. It shows notes of spiced pear and candied citrus peel along with honeysuckle and minerals. It is built like a red wine in the mouth with plenty of chewy density and chalky structure. It is layered and rich and the wine’s length of flavour is admirable.

Cellar Tasting with Vincent Dauvissat--Mostly 2009s (Chablis): The densest feeling of the 3 Premier Crus because of the strength of the material rather than the weight. Thrilling equipoise between sugar, acid, and salinity here. Reminds me of my early impression of the 2002. Superb-almost anyone else would be proud to have their top Grand Cru reach this level.

40th Birthday Bash (Heidi's, Minneapolis): Brief notes, since I got a very small pour: Quite reserved overall, and a bit discombobulated at first; improved significantly with aeration. Once this settled down, it revealed intense citrus fruit, complex minerality, impressive verve and energy, and a long finish. Looking forward to trying this again when once it settles down.

Siggy Turns Forty!!!: Faint yellow/green color. The nose is very expressive giving beautiful aromas of grapefruit/citrus. More clean and crisp on the palate than the Fevre. Silex, lavas herbs, flowers and yellow fruit on the already engaging nose. Fairly fruity-sweet on the palate, but this has enough Chablis-character to keep it interesting: citruslike acidity, stony minerals, iodine and aromatic herbs in a balanced, already quite accessible package. This will undoubtedly improve, but I wouldn't keep it too long: five - seven years max?

Decanted and poured, this wine showed well with floral, mineral and seashell aromatics. There is some richness to the wine but the mineral and oyster shell notes remain focused. This is a light yellow color that is appropriate for the wines age. The palate shows focus and lengthy on the finish. This should benefit from a couple of years of additional bottle age.

Dauvissat "La Forest" (mainly) Vertical (1995-2009) (RN74, San Francisco): A notably "warm" and sweet aromatic profile. Mouth impression is initially dominated by fruit ripeness, body, waves of acid and a slightly warm finish. After a few minutes the wine tightens up and quinine minerality takes over the midpalate. Very good, potentially excellent, but at least today does not seem to have the promise of the 2007 or 2008.

Too young, but still a nice drink. Just picked up a case so I decided to sacrifice one bottle. Excellent young Chablis. I did not like as much as the 07 or 08, but much better than the very atypical 06. While this needs some bottle time for sure, I think it will be ready to drink well before the 07 and 08. Will report back tomorrow after I sample remaining 1/2 bottle.

At first the color was very dark not your typical straw green color from chablis. At first I was very worried, but after about 4 hours the wine opened up and became more mineral and fruit driven. Reminds me of young 04. Very young barrel samples. Good quality and potential not stunning at this point.

I had absolutely no intention of opening this wine for several years, but as I was returning from the store and carrying the wine into the house, the bag ripped and one of the two bottles fell to the ground. Doh! (thats the edited version of what I really said) Luckily, I was able to slow it down some but it cracked when it hit the garage floor and wine started trickling out. I was able to salvage a little less than half the bottle which I placed in the fridge for about 4 hours before tasting.
The nose showed a little fruit. Mostly lemon with some salty, briny aromas. Very tight on pallet with the same lemon, citrus and salty notes. Crushed sea shells and lots of acidity. I may go back and get another bottle or two and will try again in about five years.

On the palate: Orange (predominant )lemon, grapefruit(hint), honeysuckle, almonds / touch of marzipan. This is a beautiful bottle of wine.

Fevre is a substantially dryer Chablis, too dry for my taste. and yes: A matter of taste, but for me the Dauvissats are at the very top and rarely ever dissappoint.

bought/own more "la forest" within Dauvissat portfolio; appreciate all, but this remains my favorite cru; will drink remaining 2 soon as extra enjoyable now. purchased on release, every '09 has been great at the table.

Nice underlying materials here. Good aromatics but a little too oaky for my taste (at this stage).
A little painful (acidity) to me.

It opens up a bit more after some time in the glass so better give it a decent amount of air before drinking. I missed a bit the cut, edge and electric acidity the 2008 showed.
It is ready to drink now though can benefit from further ageing of another 3-5 years.

lightly corked, unfortunately.

90pts

The ripe 2009 vintage is somewhat noticeable in that there are deep fruit notes and perhaps less dominance of mineral than in many other vintages. However, the acidity and freshness are definitely there, so there's absolutely nothing "too hot/ripe" to it!

Lovely steely crisp white, oyster shell and citrus. When it warmed in the glass opened up to the more expressive nutty honeyed truffle elements.

Pale yellow, flint and crushed stone and seashell on the nose. Wonderful body and salinity, excellent complexity and depth. Dauvissat knows Chablis. This region produces my all time favorite expressions of the Chardonnay grape. Wonderful bottle.

first one from this case. pale yellow-gold; citrus zest, honeycomb, sea spray; med/+ mouthfeel, a little bit oily; mixed citrus marmalade, like crushed Sweet-Tarts & seashells, mint, slightly fat (particularly relative to yesterday's '08 Vaillon), or maybe the ripeness conveys more powerfully than the evident minerality & acidity; very juicy & sweetly tangy. love these as food wines but worked surprisingly well w/ginger element in dinner.
jumbo head-on Sneed's Ferry white shrimp w/local young ginger, lime, confit tomato & coconut milk; Carolina Gold rice pilau
05/15/14 certainly this is still on the very early side of evolution, but equally as superb as previous bottle; showing an intense honeycomb & citron emulsion quality, long & delicious (92)
mussels in saffron cream broth w/garlic scapes & tomato marmalade, garlic foccacia toasts

Barely mid-weight but with tons of flavor and delightful acidity. Long, satisfying finish. This is drinking so well right now I'm not sure I'd bother cellaring. Great stuff.

Wonderful citrus notes on the nose, citrus and chalk with a great and very full palate, clean finish. Moderate acidity. Drinking surprisingly well for a young wine, and should age for a few years. Not built for the long haul I am guessing, but really very nice.
