92 Butteaux v 92 Montee du Tonnerre Montee du Tonnerre
Unfortunately the Butteaux was corked and was replaced by a 1992 Bonneau du Martray Corton Charlemagne.
The MdT was thankfully in proper shape. Barely mid yellow color with a nose showing citrus and tropical fruit notes with hints of chalk. The palate showed similarly, the fruit here is yellower and sweeter and lacks the crispness and acidity than I normally associate with Raveneau having more in common with the Mersaults in the next flight. 1992 was not a great Raveneau year IMO

Butter, caramel, burnt sugar and cake. Drank like a good aged batard as the terroir’s minerality has all mellowed down. Very good length. The richness and ripeness reflected the vintage very well. 92-93

France: 38 Wines from Kermit Lynch (E&R Wine Shop, Portland OR): Soft, mild, and slightly funky aromas. Rich and heavy body on the palate, which is smooth, soft, and pretty mild, showing some funky old lemon notes. Overall, quite lean and mild. Lean again on the finish, with decent acidity driving tart notions, but really not too much depth here.

Unlike the excellent bottle over the holidays, this bottle had lost its wax capsule, was clearly a darker color and alas was over the hill and oxidized

Nice golden color, initially subdued bouquet which opened nicely after 30 minutes revealing hints of lemon and honeysuckle. Nice texture and finish. Good balance, fully mature burg.

Had this with a nice Wild (White) Alaskan King Salmon. The fruit is fading maybe a touch and the butter is there. No more of the nice steely mineral finish as is more evident in younger Chablis. A very nice drinking wine however that goes very well with food.

Friday after Thanksgiving II (Palm Beach Gardens, FL): Viscous, oily, very light on its feet. Chalk. Citrus notes. Still quite youthful. Musty undercurrent adds a nice complexity. Very nice.

Friday after Thanksgiving (FAT) (Palm Beach Gardens FL): Tasting, brief note. Lemon and lemon peel aromas. Powerful and long with great texture and minerality start-to-finish. Great freshness for its age.
